So I did a search for Chinese food on Yelp nearby and voila! Noodle Kitchen we shall try. Now the ratings overall are good, but interestingly the vast majority of the reviews within the past year are all 5 stars. How is that possible? Could this place really be that good yet I've never tried it? The curiosity is killing you, I know. So let's dive in. Parking is always a big deal for me, and in this case, parking was no problem. It's a big parking lot with basically unlimited spots as it's in a large strip center. So far, so good. We arrived on a Saturday around 11:30 am hoping to beat the lunch rush - mission accomplished. We were the only ones there. Whenever I try a new Chinese restaurant that offers xiao long bao (AKA soup dumplings AKA XLB), I gotta try it. So we did. And it was excellent. The key is to suck the soup out of the hole on top. And If there is no hole, make one with a chopstick, and you won't spill the precious soup out of the dumpling. They also brought out the special XLB soy sauce with ginger. It was wonderful. Next we gotta get the beef noodle soup. And oh my, dare I say it: it might be the best I've ever had. Call me crazy, but don't call me crazy until you've tried it yourself. The broth was so rich and deep in flavor. I absolutely loved it. Zoom in on my photo. You'll salivate. The hot oil spill noodle was good but not great. I wish the noodles were hand-pulled like I'm used to (I'm spoiled, I know), but it was still good. The fish from Dumplings and Noodles by Cooking Girl is better, but the fish here is definitely something I would order again. So there you have it for food. Overall - very impressive and I would definitely come back and drive 45 minutes just for the braised beef noodle soup. The service was also really good. There was one older Asian lady who took care of us from beginning to end and she was great. Lastly the ambiance was surprisingly pleasant. Restaurant was spacious, clean, and they even have claw machines for entertainment. The big wonder is, for a restaurant so good, where are the customers? We placed a to-go order and waited about 30 minutes before picking it up. We live 30 min away so it's not like they're close to us. After pickup and leaving the parking lot, we realized the order was incorrect. We received our Tikka Masala, but instead of the Veggie Saag we ordered, we were given samosas. We called, explained what happened, and were asked to come back so they could swap the order. We were already tired from a long morning with our 5-year-old and 2-year-old, but we turned around and came back. What disappointed me wasn't simply that the order was wrong. We understand mistakes happen. It was how the mistake was handled. When we returned, they took back the samosas, charged us the roughly $8 difference for the Saag, and had us wait while it was prepared. There was no real apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience and no gesture to make up for having us turn around and come back because of their error. I understand paying the difference between two items, and I wasn't expecting anything extravagant. But good customer service could have been as simple as apologizing, letting us keep the samosas that had already left the restaurant and likely couldn't be served again anyway, offering us a drink while we waited, or making some other small gesture to acknowledge the inconvenience. Did they offer any of that....nope. Instead, we ended up sitting in the car longer with two tired, fussy young kids while waiting for the correct food after already waiting for the original order. We've eaten here many times and normally have a great experience, which is why this was so surprising. Mistakes with an order are understandable. How you respond to the mistake is what customers remember, and unfortunately, the customer service in this situation fell short.
