We'd give the food 4 stars and the overall experience 2, so I averaged to 3 stars. What went well: * We went on a Sunday night at 5:30. We had a reservation, requesting a booth bc we were celebrating a birthday. The restaurant was a bit crowded. They sat us at the last available booth without us asking upon arrival and the hostess wished my daughter Happy birthday as we were seated. That was great since we booked on Open Table and they don't always pass along the special requests to restaurants. * The dining room is nice and open with high ceilings and comfortable seating * Our server was Chuy and he was pleasant and attentive. (Food came out a little slowly but he brought it out soon as it was ready, so we can't fault him) * Our food was good overall. We ordered caesar salad and grilled bread before the entrees. Then we had the short ribs, lasagna, and the bolognese pappardelle pasta for our entrees. They were all fresh and tasty but the short rib on top of the lasagna was half fat. But the rest was delicious. My daughter wished they had Parmesan to shave/shake on top of here pappardelle but I don't think they offer that. * The parking was convenient and it's super easy to enter/exit the parking lot What was disappointing: * The entrance is odd. You have to walk between some kind of server stations to be seated - and there was no one to ask where to go when we arrived. There were many people working, milling around - but it a took a few minutes for someone to walk over and check us in. She was very friendly and helpful; it's just an unusual layout. * We had 2 flies hovering around the table the entire time we were there. There was also a crawling bug in the bathroom. I'm guessing they came in from the patio, but some kind of fly traps would be nice bc it's annoying to keep swatting away flies when you're trying to enjoy a nice meal. (We had 2 friends buzzing around and randomly landing, but other nearby tables had their own flying guests.) * The sun was streaming in to the point that it was uncomfortable. Some shades would be nice on the upper windows. * We take my daughter out for her birthday every year, probably for the last 10 years. We always try to be sly and ask for a birthday dessert for her without her hearing, so it's a surprise. I don't mind paying, but most restaurants throw it in and we tip extra as a thank you. I assumed they were going to bring a birthday dessert bc they acknowledged it was her birthday as they sat us, and we saw other tables getting desserts delivered with candles. I realize this is my fault - I should not have assumed they would bring her anything. It's just a nice touch most restaurants do and it makes the occasion more special when you half surprise a kid and put a smile on their face. We paid $130 for a salad, bread, 3 entrees and 2 sodas. I'm not sure if we'll be back, but I think it's fairly priced for the type of restaurant. read more

Ordered the spicy rigatoni to go. I am appalled at the lack of food we got for $25. These portion sizes are a joke. The flavor and quality of the dish is good, but the pasta was dry and lacked enough sauce and there was barely any meat on top. I don't even think it had 1 full oz of meat. Made a reservation for the day before Mother's Day got there right at 3pm (our reservation time) and had to wait 10-15min to get a table. We ordered our food relatively fast and waited close to 45mins before it was served. I ordered the vodka pasta and asked about the spice level when I order and was told they could do less spice to which I requested. I have a 3week old baby I am breastfeeding and spice level isn't handled so well with him. When we finally got our food I would say the pasta did not have less spice to it in fact I couldn't eat much of it for fear it would cause issues for my baby. My mom ordered a chicken sandwich and the bread literally was burnt... the entire top black not sure if that's the going trend. However, it was too hard she couldn't chew the bread. My sister did the small plate shrimp and enjoyed that. Over $100 later for 3 plates of food that was sub par, small portions, and very slow service. I wouldn't go again. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. We finally went. I ordered a sangria and it was served in a high ball glass rather than a wine glass. It also just tasted like a box wine no added touches to make it their own. I then had their kale salad and it was very good I could have eaten the whole thing but I split it w a friend. We had their meatball pizza and the ricotta was so good the crust was also good. Sauce was nice but the spice level was beyond hot. There are only a few things that get me on spice and this was one. My wife and I are here for the first time and found it to be excellent. The service was exceptional. The food was outstanding. I had the squid ink pasta which was delicious. It was just a hint of spicy which allowed the other flavors to come through. My wife had the Ricotta Cavatelli which was just as tasty. The Caesar salad dressing was very well done the flavor of the anchovies was present, but not overwhelming. I came in on Friday evening with two friends - thankfully, we made a reservation, because it was really busy! Our server brought us waters and then didn't return to our table for about an hour, even after we tried getting her attention. Once I received it, my wine was a lovely Italian Chardonnay, which I really enjoyed. I ordered the braised short rib lumache for my entree. Per the menu, it consisted of "parmesan fonduta, fresh horseradish, wilted arugula, herb breadcrumb." The pasta was shell shaped. It was kind of like an elevated Mac and cheese that was a textural nightmare. There was little flavor, and definitely lemon zest in it (although not part of the menu description). I didn't really taste any horseradish either. The short rib was tender and was the star of the show. I even brought the leftovers home to my husband, and he didn't like it either. Our server was not very attentive, and when we got our checks, we saw that there was happy hour M-F 3-6pm. Our reservation was for 5:15, and we were never told of happy hour, nor offered a menu. Having been to North Italia Gilbert, where we enjoyed the atmosphere and food selections in the past, we decided a month before Valentine's, to celebrate our daughter's birthday and Valentine's with our family at this location. There were 8 in our group so we made reservations one month in advance knowing this popular restaurant would be booked fast! However, one day before our dinner gathering we were notified by the restaurant that the only available dining would be from their "Prefix" dinner menu, priced at $70.00 per person. Some of our guests did not want to spend $70.00 per person; plus extra money for drinks. They were offended by this restriction; therefore, we had to cancel reservations! Customer beware! This restaurant didn't have the courtesy to let us know this situation in advance! We have never been to this restaurant on a holiday so we had no idea of the limitations! Excellent location and delicious food. All portions were great sizes!!! We started with the grilled bread and it came out hot with Evo and a balsamic drizzle sprinkled with fresh parmessan. I ordered the tortellini and the portion was large with fresh ricotta cheese and a marinara with fresh tomatoes In our group several people ordered spaghetti and meatballs and it was a large portion with a great flavor. 1/20/24: quickie review - oh yeah, we are totally going to return to North Italia (but for a celebratory occasion because it was not inexpensive). A bit of a wait so do not expect a fast in and out; savor it. Not such a quickie: we had not visited before because many of the reviews said it was a very long wait. Well, even getting there at 4:00 pm on a Saturday it was already pretty full. Not too full though, we were seated immediately (the bar top seating is not comfortable, just FYI). We will def go with a booth next time. The cocktail menu was very tempting, but I decided to opt for a true (edible) dessert vs a drinking one ... until my sister's drink came & I tasted it. Then I was all "to hell w/ that, give me a Julietta". :-) That young, friendly lady who took our drink order did tell us up front the staff switch over was happening so there could be a delay in our service. As we were enjoying the drinks, it was not a problem. Ruben eventually made it to our table and took our appetizer order. He was polite and kept checking in on us. The grilled bread w/ olive oil & balsamic was excellent: thick, lightly toasted bread, fresh out of the oven. The charcuterie board had a variety of items on it; hell, it probably could have been a meal in and of itself. The menu was not extensive but it was well written and when the food came to our table, all our mouths started watering. All three of us had different meals, cocktails, and desserts and therefore had many different flavors to sample. All three of us quickly agreed: North Italia was delicious. Followed quickly with: but for (rare) special occasions (because it was not cheap). Yes, it was not a fast dining experience -- we were there for 1.5 hrs -- but it was worth every minute. read more

You say you don't take reservations but you put people on a list and when you show up apparently that list means nothing. They "assigned " us a booth and since the people sat and chatted in the booth people who arrived after us got sat because apparently their "assigned " table was open. read more

We tried North again to redeem our last visit when my mom had a bad experience. First, my mom tried the margarita pizza and it was delicious! My kids had the kids cheeseburger and grilled cheese - a little too fancy of an attempt at kids menu items. The bread was tough, the burger was dry, but the fries were seasoned well. Other table menu items ordered: calamari, meatballs, bolognese, and the squid ink pasta. The squid pasta was too spicy for my dad, but they offered to credit it to our bill which was kind of them. I love their Arnold Palmer and their iced green tea was tasty too! Loved the meatballs which were three to the small plate menu but still a good amount. I'd recommend going family style. My husband and I split plate and it was a decent portion. Our noodles were Al dente, and maybe even on the tougher side... Lastly, our service by Rocco was superb! Came in with my mom and son for dinner on April 19th, table next to us spilt wine on us- they felt bad and wanted to buy our dinner. The table that spilled the wine said that they would pick up our tab, their server was Pedro! My son's shirt and my mom's sweater was stained with wine. I absolutely loved my experience here at North Italia! From the ambiance outside, the service, and the food everything was amazing! I ordered the Trottole Chicken Pesto and the flavor of it was a creamy pesto, instead of most that are oily. We decided to sit outside and it did not disappoint. The weather was chill and the patio was lit very nicely! Not to mention the reason why I will come back here as much as I can was because of our server Brandon. Brandon was the most fun, personable, kind, and outgoing person ever. He made the menu super simplified when we had questions on it, and was all around such a wonderful person. I was able to have a conversation for a while and didn't rush it at all. Brandon is the prime example of what it is to be a professional at what he does. At around 2:20pm we were seated for lunch on a Saturday. After around 7 minutes and having not been greeted, we left. No one noticed. No one cared. Sigh. What has happened to service? Decades back I was not only a server but a trainer of wait staff. Even if a server is slammed, you always greet within 2 minutes and say you'll be right with them. Why is service in the toilet? It's not just here. I hope "No tax on tips" becomes enacted so that it might improve restaurant service. I've been to North Italia countless times- Irvine CA, Austin TX, here, etc. I'm sure I'll go again. But today was an epic fail.
