Second time around, I've changed my review to 5 stars. I got the hubby to have date night here and it did not disappoint. We started with the tuna and the burrata appetizers while sipping on a sangria and Moscow mule. We ended up sharing the tenderloin and glad we did. It was a lot of delicious food. We ended our night with the seasonal butter cake. Our server was very attentive even though he was busy with other tables including a huge party right next to us. He made recommendations that were on point with a smile on his face the whole time. The place was packed but the space is large to accommodate a lot of people. I checked out North Italia for the first time with a part y of six and it pulled me right back to the large sq foot chain restaurants that dominated the scene in Gilbert/Chandler in the late 90's. We have driven by many times and finally decided to try it. We kept it simple with our orders but it was the best way to go. The food was delicious. Like amazing!! The seasoning was on point. Truly. Normally we find things not salted, or not salted enough, or lacking flavor. Both dishes that we ordered needed absolutely nothing! I had the Chicken Pesto. It was light and so so tasty!! My hubby had the Spicy Rigatoni. Did I mention they make their past fresh every morning?! Yes, they were both so so good. This place was great!! It was my first time here and we came to celebrate my dad's birthday. The big windows light the dining room without it being too blinding. It was busy, but it was not loud at all. The demographic ranged from couples to families to larger parties. This is definitely a place for everyone to enjoy! All the staff was very friendly and our server, Denver, was fun to interact with and made the experience very enjoyable. We started with the bread and "good" olive oil, which was a nice palette warm up for the main course. I ordered the cacio e pepe pizza, my dad got The Pig, and my mom ordered the spicy vodka rigatoni. Everything came out quickly and was very yummy! We of course saved room for dessert! I ordered the espresso martini and we also got the seasonal butter cake (Fuji apple and caramel) and the torta caprese. Both were delicious! Showed up around 4:45 PM on a Sunday for an impromptu dinner with two other people, without reservations. Luckily, it was early enough that I was seated right away at a booth. However, the restaurant was quickly filling up as time went on. Our server was extremely attentive, and when we asked for another minute to look at the menu, she didn't take too long to come back. We each ordered a different cocktail --all of them were great. For our starter, we got the garlic truffle bread which was pretty normal toasty garlic bread with an amazing truffle spread on top. For my main, I ordered the spicy rigatoni vodka which was pleasantly spicy to my liking. I also ordered a side of the spicy broccolini which was cooked well. Overall, North Italia is another Fox restaurant that is well executed and reliably good. Apparently reservations are null and void when you have them, which is unfortunate because I've had one other fine experience here (with a reservation) and was excited to bring my fiancé to try the food. We didn't bother the hostess a billion times but after 30 min of waiting we gave up and walked across the street. When we let the hostess know of course magically a table opened up. As North continues to expand presence, this new location in Gilbert makes 15 units across the US. I can assure you they set the bar pretty high and have inspired me to seek out other locations when traveling. It makes sense that they are packed with locals and reservations are a must. Only open about a month and it's almost impossible to get a reservation inside of 2 days. Thankfully the bar area is expansive and first come. This is also the only area to enjoy happy hour pricing from 3-6 M-F. The menu isn't over complicated. One page, packed with an excellent representation of old and new world Italian trattoria favorites. Small plates, salads, fresh pasta, pizza, and entrees of fish, steak, and chicken. And yes, a daily soup. The chefs board is an excellent starter to share, with prosciutto, spicy coppa, grilled red pepper, olives, pecorino, and bread. Completely satisfying prelude to the meal. The Tuscan half roast chicken was also perfectly executed. Served with sweet corn, grilled zucchini, broccolini, cipollini onions, and flavorful chicken jus. Other must-haves include the grilled bronzino, burrata anolini, and any soup of the day (chicken noodle is my favorite). Thrilled to have a location on the southeast side of Phoenix. It's grim up North. Literally! That's how I would describe North Italia. Service is seriously lacking. I ordered a drink when I arrived. 10 mins later my table ordered appetizers. Appetizers arrive, they finish and my drink never comes. I waive down the waiter about 10 mins after we all ordered our main course. Server says Sorry, he'll get my drink to me- they had role a number of drinks in break trying to get them out to tables. Apparently they don't make new drinks to replace them. Our food arrives, and after waiting another 10 minutes - I inquire again. He ask me "what drink did you order again?" Needless to say now we're half way done with our meals when it finally arrives. 45 minutes to get a drink. That is riddculous. Bill comes and because we are a large group, an 18 percent gratuity is being charged. service Explains why service was lackluster- seems other tables come first because he knew he was guaranteed 18 % tip. The restaurant has a large indoor dining area including an intricately decorated "gallery" room you can dine in. Outdoor seating features a shaded pavilion and open-air tables. I went in the evening where the dim lighting brought an intimate atmosphere despite the bustle of a busy dinner service. Staff were very accommodating and pleasant, thoughtful of our concerns with our experience. Raj served our table and made some choice recommendations to our party of four. He was patient and charming and didn't leave us scanning for him when we needed anything. I had the Braised Short Rib Lumache. Every component was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were a nice mix of salt and savory. Every ingredient complemented another and I couldn't take a bite without stacking 3-4 components on the end of the fork. They also serve Peroni on draft, so I couldn't pass up on that. The experience was what I would expect, and the attention to detail was top to bottom. There are more expensive, more swanky and more lavish options I'm sure you could find, but if you just want a place that serves great Italian food, in a comfortable and warm setting, with staff that cares about your presence, give it a try. read more

We were excited to eat here back when they first announced they were making their way to our side of town. We finally got to try them out and they did not disappoint. Service was great! Food was tasty. I really had a hard time deciding because I literally wanted to try everything! We split the shrimp scampi and meatballs to start. The shrimp scampi came with roasted tomatoes and garlic that were perfect to smear on the thick toast. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Still soft. Not over cooked. Meatballs were super moist and the polenta was creamy. I haven't had polenta like that before. Meal wise we split the short rib with pasta and branzino. Cute little Italian restaurant in Gilbert area. This is a chain but I was impressed with the service, decor, and food! We had the chicken pesto pasta which was phenomenal and one of the best restaurant pastas I've have in a while, and the spicy meatball pizza which was also very good. My grandma took all her grandchildren last night after watching a movie: The Little Mermaid, right across (SanTan mall). Some of us were underdressed but that was ok. We sat down in the long table as there were 7 of us. Here's how it went Food: Food was good, even after being bloated and coming from popcorn and icee, I manage to taste here and there. For the appetizers, we ordered 2 of the White Truffle Garlic Bread as my cousins said it was really good. The thing is it has cheese and a bit oily, just to warn you if you have a weak stomach like me lol We also got the Calamari Fritti. Not the Calamari I expected. It's the round rings, not the small very tasty ones with all the other parts to it. For the main entree, except one (one of my sisters who just picked on whoever didn't finish their food), we each got our own. 2 Squid Inks Pasta, Chicken Pesto, 2 Salads- one chicken, the other with salmon, and my other sister who had Proscuitto pizza but she sat far off the other end so didn't make the cut to my phone eating first. I had the Squid Ink, just like my grandma did, and we were sniffing as it had a kick of spice to it. I mean it was good but I don't do well with spicy food. I should have ordered the Pesto Chicken, now that was delicous- as I had a piece of it! The salads were a great choice too and would have been a better option for me as I was originally full. But of course, you can't skip on dessert: my cousins had the Cookies & Cream Gelato and I had Salted Caramel Budino Service: Let's see, our waiter was super nice. Forgot his name though. Just one problem. When it came to dessert, I asked for 2 spoons, he said he already gave us, to my cousins of course, who ordered gelato, as if he thought it was not meant for sharing. Lol I asked again, but he said he already gave two. One of my sisters laughed and said to forget about it because what if they were on spoon shortage. Lol anyway, when one of those spoons fell on the floor, one of my cousin's asked the same waiter for a spoon and he gave a spoon to her. What in the world?! luckily, I had an extra seat next to me that was empty on my left and grabbed a fork to enjoy the budino. There's also this one server though he just was eh or out of it. I understood that maybe he was having a bad day but it wasn't easy to hide that he had no emotion whatsoever. My grandma wanted pictures to take of all of us. He took the phone, took the photos, didn't count or was enthusiastic about it. He had to do it 2x too (one when the appetizers came and the other when the entrees came out). My grandma had a cover on her phone which it flapped, instead of using his other free hand, he flapped it as he was frustrated that it was in the way. We said thank you for the photos and of course he just walked away. Quite rude but whatever Ambiance: We dined in around 8:30 ish pm. It was a medium nose level. The restaurant had a date night vibe to it. I give it 3 star rating. The waiter only came back twice to check up on us. The first was "How is everything?" and until the we were low on water "Need more water?" This was my first disappointing experience at North Italia. My friends and I went to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday and ordered a round of lemon drop shots, only to be charged $15.50 per shot--the price of a full martini. When we questioned the manager, she justified it by saying that "a shot and a martini contain the same amount of vodka." However, any experienced bartender knows that a shot typically contains ¾ oz of vodka, while a martini has 2 oz. She neither acknowledged the mistake nor offered a solution. If you're going to charge customers for a full cocktail, you should inform them beforehand. Beyond the overcharge, service was slow. My martini arrived well after my food, and when I ordered spaghetti to go, I was given bolognese instead. When I asked why it wasn't made with spaghetti noodles, I was told they "don't make spaghetti noodles"--even though I had ordered and received them just weeks prior. For the price, I expect better service. This was a milestone birthday celebration, yet we left feeling disappointed. read more

First wanted to start off with food being the big winner here. We have ordered many various dishes and all are cooked extremely well. The only downside to food is the poor undercarriage on the pizza. They charge a premium, but tastes like it came from Blaze or MOD. Food: As stated above all items on the menu are solid, I would pass on the pizza. Service: For the most part you are getting 4-5 star level service. Overall: The place can get loud, especially around the bar area. Parking is a complete mess and be ready to walk a mile from your car to the entrance. One other comment that really got me was their phone system was down for weeks and you could not make a reservation. We tried for over a week and nothing. The server was fantastic when he delivered the food to my table. The front desk receptionist was also fantastic. The staff was very pleasant overall. I had no issues with the staff. Great demeanor and wonderful attitude. 5. The food was godly. I love it. I ordered two items --- pasta and pizza. They are delicious and I would be happy to return. The waitress was helpful because this was my first visit. She made some recommendation. She also came to check on me when I had a couple bites. I appreciate her. I highly recommend this place. Once upon a time I used to frequent the North Scottsdale location and Camelback location every weekend. When I used to stay in Gilbert, I was ecstatic that there was going to be a North Italia just 5 minutes down the street. Sad to say, my party and I would rather make the 35minute drive to the North Scottsdale location. My go-to dish is their house specialty-- their bolognese. However, the three or so times I've tried the bolognese here tasted completely different from their other locations. I don't really know how to explain it. The bolognese at the North Scottsdale location tastes a lot heartier? I also believe the North Scottsdale incorporates bits of carrots into the sauce which helps with the acidity of the sauce. The sauce at the Gilbert location just tastes like straight up acidic tomato sauce. The service is attentive and I still love North Italia with all my heart! Ambiance is on par with their other restaurants--trendy. Great for brunch or a date. I just wished this location was as consistent as their other locations in terms of their food. read more

Excellent! I loved everything about this spot from start to finish. It was a gorgeous night out, and the hostess was very accommodating in getting us a seat outside. We all loved our food. I split a Caesar salad and the Funghi pizza with a friend and the portions were definitely big enough for sharing. The pizza was amazing! Loved every bite. The salad also was so fresh and tasty. I also had the bombolini for dessert which was so good. My only complaint is that we don't have any locations in my home state of Michigan. read more

WHITE TRUFFLE GARLIC BREAD - PERIOD! This is what sold me on North Italia the first time and the reason I will keep coming back! Honestly, it's heaven in your mouth, especially with that handmade ricotta. UGH. Chef's kiss! We tried this spot with a couple of friends the first time for a birthday celebration. It's a pretty popular spot, so there is a wait time if you don't have reservations. We have only tried this spot during the nighttime. The ambiance at night is dark/moody with candlelight and fresh flowers at each table. It's an open space concept, so it can get a bit loud. The staff and service the past couple of times I've tried this place has been great. I have not had one bad experience with the staff. The ambiance was great. Although, we were outside which was just a little bit loud at times. That said, the food was very good. We started with an appetizer board which went great with some red wine.
