The four of us had 6pm reservations, but really didn't seem like they were needed. Three of us ordered the special (scallops), and one the filet. All food was excellent and well priced. Gosh this place is just fantastic. Visited for their New Years Eve pice fixe and it was amazing. Carefully chosen menu with options for the adventurous and the play it safe. All noted with wonderful detail. Each course served was beautifully plated & perfectly prepared. I had the HV fois gras, cream of cremini mushroom soup, seared scallops (OMGGGG PERFECTION!) and crème brûlée. My husband had the smoked meat plate (duck Prosciutto!!), seafood stew, duck breast w blackberry reduction and chocolate mousse. It was just wowzers from start to finish. Had this restaurant bookmarked a while and finally made it. We recieved a warm greeting by the owner upon arrival. Lenny waited on us and provided fabulous service. The food was delicious. I had the pork shoulder and burrata and my co-worker had the salmon. We also learned the tavern was originally a 13 room hotel off the highway in 1801. The current owner has turned the upstairs rooms into 4 rooms which are available to Airbnb. They are quite cozy and have a lovely ambiance and reasonably priced. I highly recommend a visit. Wonderful food. The Smoked Chicken Carbonara was perhaps the best Carbonara aI've ever had- so rich and creamy and flavorful. The way the chicken was smoked was incredible. The manager was rude from the second we walked in even though we had a reservation. The pre-set Valentine's menu was $65 per person for 4 courses and the food was not good. The service was awful. Our party of 5 enjoyed an excellent meal, surrounded by rustic charm and attentive service from Shay. The tavern, built about 1801 has lot of history, the narrow entrance opens to a comfortable dining area. The inn, from stagecoach stop to bootleg booze, a little gambling, to fine restaurant has in interesting history. The current menu is not large, but add a few specials and we had a nice selection to choose from. We all enjoyed the well prepared selections, from perfectly cooked tender veal chop and light sauce with green beans, hanger steak ( cooked medium as requested) with rich gravy & potatoes to seafood selections. My review will be in two parts. Pros & Cons. Pros: The food was delicious! I had an Old Fashioned. It was great! The complimentary bread & butter were so good! I ordered the Hanger Steak and it was perfect! However, My husband ordered lobster bisque soup and it was lukewarm. We should've sent it back. BIG PRO: they gave my daughter a kids meal AND a kids activity booklet! Cons: I love a building with history, but I still believe in upkeep! Peeling paint, exposed containers for moisture control and buckled wood on the walls all scream for maintenance! Considering the price of our meal I would've expected more. Medium news Onion soup was good. Bemelli, Carbonara style with smoked chicken. Pasta and sauce was good, thick, tasty and creamy but the chicken was very chewy making it inedible. (BTW, authenic carbonara doesn't use cream, that is alfredo). Harvest Salad A small arugula salad with just a "trace" amount of goat cheese (barely noticable) a few cherries and nuts. Dressing was light and flavorful. Not worth $13. Dark chocolate mousse. A nice flavor but dense and grainy. Bad news They had listed one vegan entree on their PDF menu. We went to this restaurant because it had a very good vegan option. It was for our daughters birthday! They no longer have a vegan entree option. So our daughter had a salad for her birthday dinner! Ok, I am from out of town and a friend suggested we go to this restaurant. I love to eat out, and do not mind paying for a nice meal. The place itself is beautiful. My friends and I made a reservation and the place was practically empty at 6 pm. We ordered and the food which took about 45 minutes. All three of us ordered the Filet Mignon, one of the specials. So two of the meals came out fine. My steak was ordered medium, and came out well done. So, since it was a 40.00 plate, I sent it back. The next plate was barely rare. I sent it back again, and the steak was finally correct on the third time...but the sides were not even warm. It's like they just put a new steak on the same plate. By this point, we had been at the restaurant 2 hours. Ok, fine. So I ate a few bites of the steak and gave up. The owner came back and said, with a complete attitude...I took half of the meal off the bill. Seriously? I was completely shocked. I've had experiences before where they apologized profusely and paid for the dinner. We had to argue to get my meal removed. Originally the bill for the 3 of us was 242 dollars. This was not a cheap dinner. Our waitress was very nice. The cocktails were amazing. The dessert was fair. I was really looking forward to this. So, in the end I paid 100.00 including tip for my drinks, appetizer, and dessert. I'm not sure I could have been more disappointed. read more

After a year of moving up here from the city, I finally convinced my husband to go to North Plank Tavern! We decided to check it out during restaurant week and we were pleasantly surprised! We will definitely be visiting the tavern again! We started of with some great cocktails! I had a French martini and my husband had the special cider drink- which was soooo good. For appetizers I had arancini which were killer! They were topped with an amazing marinara sauce. They outside was super crispy and the inside warm and gooey. My husband had the grilled Caesar salad which was such a nice and different take on it. The dressing was great! For mains- I had the steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus! Yum! The steak was cooked a perfect medium with a delicious sauce. Everything was seasoned perfectly. My husband had the salmon which he loved! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Started off with a Mrs. Sauer's cider and a jalapeño margarita. I honestly wasn't expecting anything great, and they were phenomenal! Christina is a fabulous bartender and takes great care of all her customers! James was also incredibly sweet. We just had the best time! Charcuterie board was great, but the entree took the cake! I ordered the grilled Hanger steak with chimichurri sauce and it was sooo good! the appetizer special was tomato salad with burrata and truffle oil and that was delicious too! I order the beignets and they were too hard to cut or to eat, that was disappointing, but other than that it was an old type restaurant with a nice restaurant feel to it. The history in this building alone makes it worth the visit. Sit at the bar and converse with the bartender who is the son of the owner. He can tell you stories about how it used to be and the many businesses it's been over the years. Bar, boarding house, brothel and even a moonshine operation run by notorious gangsters. He also serves up some delicious specialty cocktails. Antique pictures and memorabilia abound on the walls and that alone is worth the visit, but not to forget the food and service were also top shelf. Excellent attentive service keeping water glass or other beverages topped off and a smooth transition between salad apps and the meal followed by a generous dessert selection. The location was a little unusual (almost in a suburban area), the building was a house. We walked into a very narrow hallway and once we got to the main area, we were blown away. I was in Newburgh for the week, and this was a great find in a city that was lacking in interesting food options. The owner was a very nice gentleman, and I mentioned to him that it's a shame not too many people know about his establishment. I ended up going back a second time to take my cousin who took the train up from the city. Decor is cute and cozy; small and intimate with Rat Pack-type music playing--definitely apropos for the environment. Things I tried: (a) Mussels--portion was much bigger than I expected...quite delicious! Make sure to dip the bread in the broth! (b) Spicy crab bisque-- a bit nondescript. I do remember that the chives took away from the flavor of the crab. (c) Lamb--the crust was quite good, though it was better the first time around. (d) Creme brulee--nothing special I do hope this place lasts. There aren't a lot of what you would consider "fine dining" for the area, and since they don't market too much in the neighborhood, they mainly rely on word of mouth and Yelp to get diners in.
