Another splendid trip. My fiance and I had our first date at Billy Joe's and thought to take a visit the other day to reminisce. We brought my daughter - she was thrilled with the view, watching the giant ships plow thru ice bergs on the frozen Hudson River. She loved her chicken fingers and fries and coloring book w crayons. Him and I do not eat meat. Ordered the veggie quesadilla and a side of fries to share. Holy crap that veggie quesadilla was DELICIOUS!!! I don't love that the fries are coated in flour, at a place like this you hope for a hearty potato-only steak fry. Also no malt vinegar to douse the floured fries in... but our awesome waiter Ryan mentioned to the manager, and he ordered a case of malt vinegar for our next trip - talk about service and pride in your business ! This is a nice rustic place by the water that is absolutely HUGE on the inside and on the outside. Too bad we visited for the first time in the winter and missed out on deck dining by the water. Love this place!! Came here a while back with my friends and decided to stop in again. The service was great! Jay was very attentive/friendly and had great customer service presence. We ordered the chicken sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese, and the chicken fingers with the kung pow sauce, and sweet potato fries. Billy Joe's Ribworks is hands-down one of my favorite spots in Newburgh, especially for the outdoor bar and patio that gives you an amazing view of the Hudson River and mountains. Whether it's day or night, the vibe is always on point--but at night, it really comes alive, especially when there's a DJ and dancing. Just be aware there's usually a cover charge on special event nights, and they'll move tables to make room for the dance floor. Food-wise, I'm a big fan of the Legend Burger--stacked with Smoked Brisket, Pulled Pork, Smoked Sausage, Cheddar, Coleslaw, and BBQ Sauce--it's as intense as it sounds and super satisfying. The ribs are solid, and the Combo Ribs platter is a great way to sample everything--usually comes with half a rack of ribs, chicken, mac & cheese, and broccoli. The wings and calamari also never disappoint. It's also a great place to catch a game with a beer or glass of wine in hand. The service is consistently friendly and fast, and the crowd and energy always make it a good time. I've been coming here for years and always walk away happy. Located about 90 min north of Manhattan on the Hudson River, Billie Joe's reminds you of a Southern smoke shack that was dropped next to a river in the mountains of New York. They have a HUGE patio area right on the water, the views of the river and Mt Beacon were beautiful! They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait on a busy evening. They also close at 9pm and turn into some type of dance club The portions were very generous, the staff was friendly and attentive and the food was pretty solid! Ordered the Meat, Meat and More Meat - smoked brisket, smoked sausage and pulled pork. The platter was more than enough to share, which is exactly what we did! Cornbread was a little dry and dense, but all the meats were delicious. Beans were spicy and tasty, but a little sweet. Cocktails were well poured and not lacking on the booze If you find yourself in the area, I definitely recommend a stop! read more

This, is the best barbecue joint I have ever been to in Newburgh. This place is the best, their ribs fall right off the bone. The Mac and cheese is nice and creamy and the fries, hmm hmm good. The service was wonderful, are server was Tammy and she was the best. She was kind and gave us suggestions to the best thing in the menu. Really enjoyed lunch with my Dad - an unexpected delight! My catfish po boy was excellent - light & crispy generously size filet, loaded with DELICIOUS coleslaw and pickle. Mac n cheese is very good. My Dad enjoyed his very modestly priced lunch special of chicken and ribs with beans - so plentiful that he went home with leftovers. It's getting a 4 for the view which is outstanding. There is both inside & outside dining. The outside dining provides the view. The food was OK. We ordered a loaded potato for an appetizer. It was great. We had brontosaurus ribs and brisket. Both looked EXTREMELY appetizing, but needed the BBQ sauce to bring out the flavor( there was not much seasoning on the meat itself. For sides we had collards, broccoli, baked beans and Mac and cheese. The baked beans were great enhanced by burnt ends. The other sides were unremarkable. The cornbread was dense but tasty. We ate here, last month, but were busy with the holidays, and I forgot to post review. We had such a great lunch experience, I have to fix that. Our server was friendly and attentive. Other servers also stopped at table to check on us, as did the manager. Portions were just right for lunch. My husband ordered rib and chicken combo. I ordered fish platter, which I was delighted to find on menu at a barbecue restaurant. All food was delicious. The bar is well stocked. Hubs has never claimed to be the BBQ know-it-all...because he's not. But one thing is 110% certain- my husband loves meat with those crispy+burnt edges and an overall char. He almost got his wish when we came to Billy J's by the Hudson River in Newburgh. Whatever garage/factory Billy J's was in its past life, they did a nice job converting that into the restaurant it is today. They have an indoor dining area that spans practically a small city block (not true- but seemed like it), another side of the restaurant with glass garage doors adding visual spice with a panoramic view to the Hudson as well as their deck area out in the open. My Riesling was way too sweet for my liking and would've appreciated a more crisp feel. Hubs' Long Island Ice Tea tasted like juice with none of the strength. We stuck to water after that. Our girl Gianna must've been no older than 23- but boy was she on us like a hawk with a quick hand for any of our requests and pleasant at that too. Crispy Shrimp appetizer had a subtle coconut crust. As ugly as catfish is, I went for it in a cornmeal-crust with broccoli sans cheese (as I wanted it) and a side of fries as my two choices. The fish has a nice amount of salt and crunch...but it cracked everywhere. Hubs went for the full rack of ribs- except he didn't want all that slathered-on BBQ sauce. He told our girl he wanted burnt edges and a char. The kitchen worked their magic somewhat. Maybe this isn't the type of BBQ place where they make ribs with burnt edges and a char¯\_(ツ)_/¯. But he raved about their fall-off-the-bone meat though. This may not have been above the level for us. But it was an 'ok' try. read more

We came on a rainy Thursday afternoon. The view of the river is lovely, service is warm and efficient, and the food is "fine". I got the half rib and chicken combo with Mac n cheese and Onion rings. The ribs fell off the bone (a minimum requirement!) and the flavor was good but not terribly exciting (more BBQ sauce helped both the ribs and chicken). The chicken, despite it's name, was pretty boring. Large parts of it were dry and tough and just not very tasty. The Mac and cheese and Onion rings were good but not particularly memorable.
