GREAT FOOD all but one of the staff SUCKS Brian seemed to the person in charge but he ignored staff lying down in booths whilst on their breaks. Maria, in speaking to another waitress commented on the age of a gentleman who was obviously a regular (by the way he greeted everyone by name) calling him a "sad old bastard". Maria sat in the booth next to ours doing side work and spoke for 20 straight minutes in an endless insipid diatribe. Aside from her heartless jab at the elderly patron another comment that stood out was when she said that she didn't understand why people rang up such high bills at NRP because, "they just shit it all out". Maria should not be in food service. Bihn was the only staff person who seemed to care about the customers' needs - she was stellar. read more

I can not ever say enough great things for this local excellent restaurant! I live in North Ridge so it is close to me, but have never ever had a bad meal at this perfect pub! Yesterday I met with some long time friends and there were 5 of us. One friend ordered the excellent nachos for the table as an appetizer. I had the philly cheese steak sandwich and, of course, couldn't eat it all. Our wonderful servers brought us all a to go box and I forgot my to go box. I called and told them and how many restaurants would say, "Sorry that happened and don't worry we will fix you another one!!!" WOW, stopped back there and there it was with my name on it! We love the cozy atmosphere and the neighborhood bar feel. The food is consistently good. The meatloaf and mac and cheese plate is the best. We go two to three times a month and aren't tired of it yet! The only issue is that the place is small and the tables at the bar fill up fast. But that just adds to the coziness. Steamed veggies were soggy. Fish was WAY overcooked. $20-$30 per person, booze included, no dessert. About my ratings: Only high-priced dining establishments can garner five stars. Until yelp realizes that a fast food joint cannot possibly be ranked equally with a $100 per person place, I need to draw the line somewhere. If we were only talking about the quality and presentation of the food, it would be a different story. But, as we know, yelp's rankings take into account the entire dining experience. Therefore, I divide restaurants into three categories (and I wish yelp would do the same): 1) fast food and "fast-casual", low-priced (no table service). 2) casual, mid-priced dining (table service, average entrée price: $10-$20). 3) fine, high-priced dining (linen napkins, no plastic cups, no TV's in dining room, average entrée priced at more than $20, can vary depending on the city). I've been to this pub once before, in 2008. I remember liking it. However, since we don't live on that side of town, we don't usually venture to restaurants over there. Yesterday, we had some errands to run on that side of town, and my fiance was jones-ing for a blackened fish sandwich, so we decided to head over. It was about 4 in the afternoon on a Saturday, and 90 degrees outside, so we opted to sit inside. The lone bartender/waiter was busy, though--all of the outside seating was filled, and he was also manning the bar. However, we didn't feel neglected by the bartender or anything, and we weren't in a hurry, so it all worked out. My fiance got the blackened fish sandwich he'd been craving...salmon. I would have gotten that myself, except I don't care for salmon. I wound up getting the portobello mushroom sandwich, which came with fresh spinach and tomato, and I had it sans cheese and mayo. We both got french fries. I will say this--our food was fresh and HOT! We both burned our mouths on the fries. :P My only observation about the mushroom sandwich was that there wasn't any seasoning on the grilled portobellos--it would have made for a better sandwich. However, my order was right, so I can't really complain about it. The bartender/waiter was also upfront about the fact that they didn't have any draft beer, just bottles. My fiance prefers draft (I suspect most people would), but he was okay with this, since they let us know before ordering anything. I wish we lived closer...we'd eat here a lot more often. As it is, when we're on that side of town and in the mood for pub food, we'll make sure to stop in. read more

We live not far from the pub and have been there many times. Decor: It's nice, the lamps a little dusty for my taste, but overall we like it. Company we have taken over the years like it as well. It's a very inviting setting, big televisions, cool photos, all very good. Better since the no smoking ban went info effect. Drinks: Most of the bartenders are very good, they have one who doesn't do justice to the drinks, but overall, they are very good. Wide variety. They have 2 that make (in my opinion) the best martinis in north Raleigh. Food: Has always been consistent and that is our fav part about the place. My hamburger last time was pretty much just like the time before. Salads are very good, the spinach with warm bacon vinaigrette. The feta and strawberry salad. Apps are all very good. Cost: I consider it a good value for the quality and quantity of food. Service: Some newbies float in and out, they could throw the service off a bit. But, the seasoned wait staff is very good. exceptional, they are professional, attentive, could not ask for more. Highly recommend. read more

I recently discovered this hidden gem and it's one of my favorite lunch spots. It's a small, quaint location that's perfect for date night or lunch/ brunch with the girls. My favorite menu items are: Strawberry Salad- (add chicken, it's yummy) come hungry... the salads are large and amazing! The Big Boy Grilled Cheese- perfect for a rainy day or when it's cold outside. If you love cheese, you'll love this (trust me) I've also sampled the Apple Salad with chicken (a friend let me try it) and I'll probably order it next time I'm there. Drinks: Full Liquor bar; 5 or 6 beers on draft ranging from shock top, to red oak or a nice IPA. Full line of domestic bottles available; white and red wine as well. My favorite after work spot. All of the sandwiches are great. The fries are always hot and fresh. The food is definitely a step up from somewhere like an ale house or fox and hound but priced about the same. There's not a huge selection of drafts but they are chosen well and should be enough suit any taste. The customer service here is horrible. It was our first and last time eating at North Ridge Pub. While the food was fine being rushed out before we were even done eating was rude! When you have customers that have ordered an appetizer, alcohol, and 2 expensive dinner plates the last thing you do is rush them out because you now have a line. It's Friday night! Every place has a line! And substituting a beer because you ran out of the one that was ordered without asking the customer is ridiculous. Who does that?! read more

We have been here before. The food was decent, and the wait staff was attentive. On our second visit, my husband and I went in for a few beers. Our bartender gave us a round and then proceeded to ignore us the rest of the time. We were the only people sitting at the bar, so it was not busy. My husband was ready for another drink and the bartender walked past his empty glass multiple times. She even stood right in front of him, and he tried to signal her, but no response. We were going to buy another round and were considering maybe a small appetizer, but after she completely ignored my husband, we decided to leave and walk over to a different restaurant. I hope this isn't typical, but I don't know if we will go back even though we live very close. read more

Tried this place out a couple weeks ago. Typical week night. The food here is ok, but the staff is definitely sub-par. Most of the waiters and waitresses were too busy folding napkins to actually refill our waters or take our orders. They definitely have customers they know who come in regularly, and when we were there the servers gladly let us slip through the cracks to serve them instead. I get the feeling that your experience at NRP can depend a lot on who you are. Service is so sluggish and ineffective that I wonder if there's a caste system in place. The blonde bartender is probably the worst of all the staff we experienced. She took 20 minutes to make 2 drinks, all the while we could see her playing on her phone/gossiping in the back. Music was good though. That's why I gave it at least 1 star. read more

This is a great unassuming place. I was skeptical at first. I love shrimp and grits, and I asked the waitress if she recommended them, and she told me people really love them. She was right, they were great. A little too much cheese for me, but next time I will ask them to go light on that. But perfectly creamy. It's nice and cozy, I think it's a good place to go to when it's colder outside because the outdoor seating is not all that great, and it's dark inside. I prefer natural lighting, but the food is good, so I would return again. Can't wait to try some of their dinner choices. read more

Decided to do takeout from here and based on mixed Yelp reviews, it was close and convenient, so I said what the heck! The young lady who answered the phone was phenomenal and answered my questions, off to a great start. Food was ready when they said it would be but when we got home, we were thoroughly disappointed..... to say the least. My fiancée ordered the meatloaf that honestly looked so unappetizing, the smell was even worse :( it looked old and there was nothing fresh about it. The steamed veggies and meatloaf were in the same dish and there was so much liquid in the bottom on the takeout container it caused the mystery meat to completely fall apart, further adding to the lack of disgust. That dish was totally inedible. No seasoning to the veggies and the macaroni and cheese was basically just noodles with cheese and a splash of milk. The shrimp wrap was semi-okay. I grew up at the beach and could immediately tell as soon as I bit into it that the shrimp were reheated because of the tough texture. Again, definitely not fresh. The fries and ranch were the best part of the meal. I feel like we wasted $24 on dinner tonight and will certainly not be back :( maybe dine-in is better? :( read more

My husband and I visited for the first time last night, and we were both incredibly pleased with our meal. I read in a previous review that the meatloaf and mac n cheese plate was delicious...and they were totally right! The meatloaf was super moist, and the mac n cheese was very creamy with a browned top. My husband had one of the burgers (cooked medium), and he said it was really good. He polished it off, so I could tell he really liked it. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was very nice. The NCAA basketball tournament was on, so they had a decent crowd there watching the game. The bartender was kept busy with the crowd, but he still took the time to refill my Pepsi several times, without being asked. They also offered some outdoor seating, and I saw a few families eating out there. Overall, it was a wonderful experience! read more
