My wife and I stumbled upon this delightful restaurant last Saturday evening. From the moment we were greeted at the door it was apparent the proprietors treat their guests like family. The restaurant was very busy so Carol the hostess/ owner suggested we have a drink at the bar. The drinks were delicious. Carol mentioned we could have dinner at the bar if that was our preference. We ordered salads which were exceptional and the chicken special for the evening. The presentation and food was simply fantastic. Carol offered us limonchello on the house as an after dinner drink. We decided to head here for some apps and cocktails to wind down the day after a few hours at the range. First time here for everyone in our group, and the menu had some interesting items that caught our attention. Lots of parking and the inside was roomy. We were greeted warmly, and the staff was quite friendly and cheerful. It was getting too chilly to sit outside, so we opted to sit in the big room. There was a private party in the back, but it wasn't loud. One of the things that I noticed was that the bartender personally walked my friend's cocktail to the table, and asked her to taste it and compare what might be lacking. I felt that was a great touch. After a dash of triple sec, her drink was perfect. Ordered apps, and they came out in a timely fashion. The nachos were piled high, and the grilled veggie salad with scallops were a hit. Shortly after, the entrees arrived. My burger was medium rare, bacon was plenty, fries were crisp. Wouldn't have changed a thing. Italian Sushi was interesting, and one of the menu items that caught our attention. There were generous cuts of tuna and salmon over risotto cakes, very refreshing. Finally had an event catered here after dining several times and I could not have been more grateful. The food and service was outstanding. We did a retirement cocktail party and everyone enjoyed themselves. There was such an array of delious eats to choose from. The most difficult task was not to fill up on each plate that was served because the next round would be even better. A huge varity of dishes that encompassed land, sea, and air. From fresh tuna to filet mignon to creative salads packed with protein, and a dessert display that GLPs would run from. Brian and his staff went over and beyond to make our experience special. Me & hubby have been here a few times and always enjoyed it. This past Saturday evening we decided to challenge them. We called at 5:30 to get a 5:45 table for 7-including 3 children. They were up for the challenge AND more! Nothing was a problem, they understand the importance of "happy kids, happy dinner!" Even the owner checked in with us to make sure all was good! Such a nice place! The owner is such a nice man and the staff are just amazing! I highly recommend the LIT as the bartender makes them high octane!! lol. It was our 36th anniversary and we decided to go there. Food was so very good. Steak was cooked perfectly and the scallops were some of the best I've ever had honestly. They were sooo fresh! I feel bad because the people who work here are really nice but it just is not good . I live down the road and keep trying to give this place another chance but after this last time I can't bring my self to go back. The food is weird, everything on the menu has an odd twist that just doesn't go together . It is hard to even find something both of us want and we are not picky eaters. It was my first trip here, as a guest at of our neighbor for our birthday. I told our server I was reluctant to order Angel hair spaghetti with clam sauce in a place that wasn't an Italian restaurant. She assured me it was really good, so I ordered it. Totally wrong, like no clam sauce I've ever had before anywhere. Angel hair cooked perfect, delicious baby clams. The clam sauce was non traditional tasteless white nothing. Could have been plan milk for all I could tell. Let's move on to my neighbors order, mahi-mahi and salmon fish combination. Portion was so tiny, he was shocked. he asked if it came with a vegetable, yes he was told ( they added an additional $7 for the vegetable) very small portion. They quit kindly served three desserts gratis, as it was our birthday. Overall, my wife was impressed, my neighbor and I vowed never to go back, menu is too limited and non descript, nothing on the menu will be as expected. I read the reviews of other dinners, after the fact. Many very good reviews. The consistency of the many negative reviews was the same as my opinion. Very small portions for relatively expensive price. We are from Brooklyn with a vacation home out her. We eat out at least twice a week. In general, we feel the restaurants " out here" don't compare to our restaurants in Bayridge. North Tavern does not compare well to other restaurants "out here"! read more

Went to a private party here recently. Quite nice overall. Cant think of any negatives. North Tavern is a comfortable, cozy, friendly, and safe place. Fantastic service! I believe the owner was present and was serving the guests. A big plus, shows interest and owner buy in! Great bar, outside corn hole area, outside and porch seating. The main dining room has a beautiful center stone fireplace. We had super endless apps being constantly circulated! For my main course i took the advice of our server and enjoyed a meatloaf in a puff pastry topped with sliced steak. I dont generally like meatloaf and would not have ordered it if our server didnt recommend it. Wow-wow-wow! That was great. I may order that on my next visit. Since my last review was 2 years ago, I am compelled to update this fantastic restaurant. We eat here at least once a month, and it's always phenomenal food and service. Just had a party here. EVERYTHING was FANTASTIC! Guests are still raving about the food and service. Parties are welcomed with a champagne punch and roving hors d'oeuvres. The finger foods were diverse and delicious! Everything from shrimp, kielbasa, tuna tartar to mini nachos, chicken fingers, mini sandwiches, fresh fruit skewers and more! I had to try everything because one tray looked better than the next, and it was! Multiple dinner choices include their legendary meatloaf stack and penne ala vodka with chicken. I had the crab cake with salmon Dijon, and it was so good i practically licked the plate clean. Our servers were so friendly and attentive. Nobody was ever waiting for a drink. We had the beer, wine, soda package along with our party and everyone was happy. They have many tap beer selections and wines to choose from. Dessert consisted of their famous coffee cake which is melt in your mouth moist & delicious, with a brownie and icecream, with chocolate drizzle plated so beautifully. Had the hard lemonade, the first one was good and looked pretty, the second wasn't the same, I think they used my same glass I had for the first one lol The Italian toast was very good. Have been coming here for a couple of years and have always loved it. It's still good but not great. It used to have my absolutely favorite lobster roll on the North Fork... no longer. What made their lobster roll outstanding was the dill. It was amazing. Now they offer a special.... Half lobster roll, salad with shrimp and fries $36. Not a bad price but the lobster roll is no longer seasoned with dill and the shrimp were usually warm in the salad. We also had the fish & chips. It too was good but not outstanding... there was a lot of fish but some of the fish pieces weren't cooked enough. Fries were great. A bit disappointed but will still come back and hope the next time it's like old times and outstanding again. read more

We came here for date night on a Wednesday evening. It was super muggy and hot out- the indoor temperature was perfectly cool which I really appreciated! The hostess was really nice and welcoming and we were immediately seated. The restaurant had a decent amount of people for a 7pm Wednesday night which was So great to see. The service was amazing from start to finish. Truly perfect timing. The tuna carpaccio appetizer WAS MAGNIFICENT. The tuna was toro quality - PERFECTLY seared and rare-the sauce- arugula combo was a dream. I cannot wait to go back and get it. I opted for the summer shrimp salad - and my husband got the special meatloaf sliders (they change nightly!) - both dishes were super yummy. The shrimp was 100% fresh not frozen. We finished w/coffee- we didn't have room for the ice cream espresso special- but I encourage you to try it and report back:). We loved this restaurant- we'll be back soon- and were hoping for a 5 star review upgrade on our second visit. read more

Have to say North Tavern is definitely a Five-Star restaurant but a few things knocked it down a notch. Shame I couldn't give it a 4.8 rating. Five Stars for the atmosphere. Five Stars for the staff. 100% Five Stars for the presentation and plating of the dishes. Five Stars for the taste and quality of the food. Here's where it gets a little tricky. The portions were perfect in that there was no need for a doggy bag. Small enough to finish and large enough to be satisfied but for the price ($$$) there should have been an included (house) salad and bread served as many other places of this level includes automatically. I'd like to say how impressed I am with this restaurant! My boy friend & I love this place for its food & cocktails at the bar. The atmosphere is perfect, it's elegant and modern. Customer service is always above and beyond!! Because of our great experiences, I decided to throw my boy friend's surprise 30th Birthday Party here!! And LET ME TELL YOU -- 5 Star Service!! The staff provided everything to the T! Helped set up decorations, & had a glass of champagne punch with fresh strawberries for each guest upon arrival!! When my boy friend and I arrived we were served our cocktails right away. The surprise was perfect!! Also the food was phenomenal!! Went here for dinner because I saw their positive review in Newsday. This is a great restaurant; Brian, the owner, was friendly and engaged with his diners time and again during the evening, helped cleared the tables and was as attentive as his servers. Beth, our server, was equally friendly, and attentive, offering food and drink suggestions when asked. She made us feel so welcome, that it was like seeing an old friend. We dined outdoors and it was nice to dine outside without a lot of cars or people walking by, a very relaxing experience. The food was EXCELLENT - in both taste and presentation. We ordered the chicken angel hair soup(no taste), carbonara pasta (no taste), then I ordered French fries and those fries came out so fast that I knew they had to be sitting in oil for a while because it was just soggy and tasted like oil. A group of us de used to try this new restaurant for a birthday dinner. We arrived for our 6:15 reservation and was seated immediately. The atmosphere was perfect. Very quaint. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful and answered all our questions about the menu. I ordered the pan seared Scallops. They were delicious. The only negative was one of the menu options offered to be served over risotto cakes unfortunately this evening they decided to not have the risotto. We were told that they would be happy to make them for an additional $4 charge. That did not seem right being it was a menu option. All in all we loved the place and I will definitely back read more

Nice place, friendly staff, ample parking. We were disappointed with the food and drinks. Pierogi appetizer was delicious, but they put the sour cream right on them (friend I was with doesn't like sour cream) and the apple sauce was just a smear around the plate. Thought the sour cream and applesauce would be on the side. Who would think to ask? My friend had meatloaf which was average. Came with a small amount of mashed potatoes AND sweet potato fries. No vegetable, which would have been so much better than two different potatoes. It was weird. I had the scallops which were delicious, but came on top of a little smear of mashed potatoes, nothing else. Again, a vegetable would have been nice, and would have made the meal filling. Entrees were not hot when they came out, barely warm. Cappuccino was served in a beer glass with a sugar rim. Again, weird. And I'm diabetic. I guess they're trying to put a different spin on things, but they should tell you so you don't get something you can't eat. And definitely overpriced! The menu that is online has been changed, and the prices are quite a bit higher. All in all, not what we expected. read more
