This journey involved learning all about birthing centers, different types of midwives, different requirements/restrictions with each scenario, etc etc. We visited various birthing centers in Dallas and the surrounding areas but ultimately, and to our great satisfaction and appreciation... we were connected to Sweet Pea Midwifery and Olivia Delavega. We felt a huge sense of relief, because for my wife and I, having our baby in the comfort, energy, ambiance and convenience of our home checked all the boxes... Olivia, her team and her network were wonderful. Our experience with Olivia, Tabby and Iana (our Doula; within Olivia/Tabby's Network) was incredible. Well organized, cohesive, logical pregnancy plan coupled with a very informative and great emotional support structure from Iana. At no time did we feel pressured to do anything. Free will and free choice should be pervasive throughout our lives, but more and more it feels like some of those freedoms are slipping away. That wasn't the case with Sweet Pea Midwifery. We chose to have a 100% natural, zero pain intervention birth at home. Old School style... like they did for 1000's of years. At each step and with each choice we discussed the pros, the cons, the risks of each with Olivia and Tabby, asking countless questions, and in the end we chose the path that made the most sense for us and felt fully supported by the whole team. If we have another child, we will absolutely return to Sweet Pea Midwifery. I just can't say enough good things... this review would go on and on. Thank you so much Olivia!!!

Although my birth was incredibly fast, Olivia was such a help to me. Not necessarily because of what she did, but how she encouraged me and empowered me to birth my baby. I have had 3 babies previously (with different providers in a different state) and not once did I feel confident taking the reins during the actual pushing. I always waited for other providers to tell me it was okay to start pushing, but with Olivia, I was confident and comfortable enough to let me body do the work and rest in that. Even when she gave me advice, they were more helpful suggestions than commands that I felt in previous births. I so appreciated her aid and reassuring presence. Postpartum care was also phenomenal and our whole family felt very loved and cared for. Olivia and Tabby have become friends and if we were to have any more babies, I would love to be in their care again. Thank you, Sweet Pea Midwifery, for such a beautiful experience that I will treasure forever.

So many options when it comes to midwives. I'm so thankful that my friend recommended Becky, at Dallas Birth. Becky offered customized care, consistent support, and was always professional while maintaining the perfect level of relatability and tenderness. I felt safe with Becky; her level of expertise was always reassuring. Becky helped me to have the birth I wanted; a birth where I was in control, supported, and adequately monitored to ensure that baby and I were healthy and progressing in the right direction. I plan to use Dallas Birth Midwifery again, should I get pregnant again. You won't regret choosing them!!

My pregnancy with my first was an overall good experience-but left me feeling a bit like a number and not a person. This pregnancy, I had so much more energy and felt much less anxious-and I owe it all to Becky's support and encouragement. "Normal" pregnancy symptoms weren't over looked and she had recommendations and cared to help me navigate every step. The way she listened and educated was really empowering and healing in and of itself. We had hour (or longer) visits and access to talk with Becky between visits in an online portal-which gave no time for concerns to fester. The way she cared for me (and my 2 year old) at each visit really surpassed expectations and I always left motivated and excited for the next visit. Being truly cared for in a medical setting is not common. All of this resulted in the easiest and quickest labor which was a huge answered prayer. She is intentional, very knowledgeable, and hilarious. Every pregnant mama needs a Becky! We were a little nervous about the cost initially-but the value and services included make Dallas Birth really a great value. So many things were included that we paid out of pocket for our first-lactation services, placenta encapsulation, birth tub, birth classes, pregnancy teas, and probably a lot more that I'm not thinking of or didn't need. And we can submit a claim to insurance after to get reimbursed. I also loved that I didn't have to research different services-Becky takes care of everything.

I bled for 8 months after my C section. At the hospital while i was in the most terrible pain, my Husband wondered what type of medication they were giving me and they said Tylenol and Gabapentin. Also, I hope this prevents anyone having to switch doctors at 37 weeks like I had to. While there were a lot of small red flags with Dr. Conyac throughout the entire pregnancy, the biggest issue I had with her was regarding the size of my baby. Around 28 weeks is when she continuously told me that "a big baby is not a healthy baby" and that "it's the moms fault". My husband and his two brothers were 10lb babies and his grandfather was a 13lb baby. She said that did not matter and continued to make me feel absolutely terrible like I was doing something wrong. I passed my glucose test, yet she still made me test my blood sugar 4 times a day which was never anywhere near a concerning level. The final straw with her was when she told me that "big babies gain weight in the wrong places like their shoulders and she could get stuck and I could die." Talk about terrible bedside manner. As a first time mom, I already had the typical worries and concerns about labor, but to hear your doctor tell you that you could die was absolutely insane. As the person that I am suppose to trust with my delivery, she should have discussed my options such as getting induced early or a c-section if she was that concerned instead of instilling fear into me. She also tried to tell me at my last appointment that I had hypothyroidism. The best part is I found out by a front desk worker calling to inform me that I needed to start taking thyroid medication every day. Dr. Conyac herself never talked to me about this situation. I had access to all of my blood work on the patient portal and could not find anything that showed I had an issue with my thyroid, so I never started taking the medication (thankfully). Once switching doctors, turns out there was absolutely nothing wrong. When I transferred doctors, someone from Dr. Conyac's office called to ask why I cancelled my appointment without rescheduling and I told them the situation. Their response, "thank you for the information". Absolutely no care in the world that I had a bad experience or any attempt to fix or even apologize for what happened. Thankfully I was able to switch to Dr. Tracy Hays at 37 weeks. She was the most perfect doctor I could have ever asked for. I gave birth to our beautiful baby girl May 23rd and she ended up only weighing 8lbs 2oz.

We both interviewed a few midwife practices in the DFW area, and we felt comfortable with Cori right away. She had the perfect balance between being personable and professional at the same time. I felt safe with asking her questions without being judged. She always asked what questions we would have multiple times throughout our appointments with her. She also never rushed us during appointments, and really took her time and gave us the full appointment to her undivided attention. She explains everything very well, using different resources. Cori is extremely respectful of different cultural practices, she even asks about any a couple would like to practice during the pregnancy and birth so she can be aware and accommodate. She also has a great community of Doulas, other midwives, doctors, chiropractors and pelvic floor therapists she is connected to. When the day finally came, Cori was extremely calm. Her voice and tone was calming, moved in the room without excessive noise (which was very helpful, during the last stages of labor) and she was completely prepared. I loved her availability through text messages anytime i forgot to ask her something, and this was especially helpful during labor, for both my husband and doula. Highly recommend having Cori part of anyone's pregnancy and birth journey, she'll definitely be part of our second pregnancy!
