We took our daughter with special needs to see a daughter of some good friends play the lead role in Mary Poppins. Just love the covered parking that makes it so easy to get in and out and what a production Mary Poppins was. You guys! This is such a nice treat for the whole family with VERY reasonably priced tickets. We have see many a production, but this was just as awesome an experience in a different way. When you watch your daughter engage with the music and see her pure joy during the whole performance....you think, "Who needs Broadway?" We enjoyed ourselves immensely and our girl got to get a pic with Miss Poppins herself after the show. read more

We went to see Westside story. It was subpar at best. The location was way to small for such a large production. It was hot and muggy which made it uncomfortable. You're in willow bend mall & it does have air conditioning so I can't understand why they couldn't cool it off for the full house of patrons. The worst part was the seats. You felt like you were sitting on the floor. You literally had to plop into the seat. It was as if they were made for children and not adults. We had hip pain just sitting there. Had to get up during the performance because of the pain. I hope the new location gets better seats & heating/cooling system. I went to a shows this winter there where you literally had to wear a coat because it was so cold. read more

The directors select the same students for each production. It is difficult to get your child a chance to get a decent part. Even supporting roles. You can be amazing but the directors will still pick the same students. So many wonderful talented students. They just need a chance to shine. Great place others wise. If you are not a favorite it is tough. My child has attended NTPA for a long time. Still it is tough. Supportive staff. Feedback to improve is difficult to obtain. It appears that directors are afraid to hurt students feelings. I would rather have feedback so the student can improve. Wonderful loving environment. My child still enjoys NTPA. read more

First rate surprise about NTPA and performance of 'Cabaret' on our first visit. I didn't even know the theatre was even here in the mall. Easy enough to get tickets on line and garage parking in the shade on hot TX summer day in Sep were great. The musical performance was superb; costumes, singing, acting, etc. Almost a full house for Sun afternoon show. Very talented people did a very entertaining job in a very limited space. Saw the performance of "Grease." A very challenging musical that requires all cast members to sing. Some could, some struggled, but everyone showed energy and enthusiasm. One of the male characters ("Kenickie") was played by a woman, which was a bit confusing given the plot of this play. The theater is hidden in a hallway near Dillard's on the top floor of Willow Bend Mall. I couldn't find it and tried calling the box office but only got voice mail. Suggest that the theater managers put signage in the mall and change the voice mail message so that the theater's location is stated up front. read more

A great place to help your kid establish responsibility, a functional understanding of teamwork, work ethic and relationship building. Each performance success is based not only on your child's personal and cast contributions by also your help in promotion, set building, behind the set coordination...and of course...your money (anywhere from $200-$300 in my experience) This isn't a place you can pay to drop off your kid and expect them to service you as a baby sitter. Tech week (the week before the opening performance) requires 4 hours per day, and during school that can be a challenge. Keep this in mind before making commitment to the cast. Excellent institution for helping you grow your child in many aspects of the performing arts. Highly recommended. Takes both parents and a dedicated kid to make it a success! read more

I am writing this review because of the poor communication from the business office of this theater. The directors are great, but when I left messages with a question on the amount I needed to pay at the business office it was like hearing crickets. I received no reply until they wanted my money for a final payment. It would have been extremely helpful if Amber Daly had returned my phone call or replied to my message that I sent with the first payment. She is lacking in the basic business skill of communication. I am not sure of the rest of the office since she is the only one I have dealt with. Be sure, if you have any questions, that you hound them for a reply. This shows a lack of courtesy. read more

Plano Children's Theater is an excellent place for kids of all ages to participate in performing arts. There are a wide variety of offerings from workshops, weekly classes, summer camps and full productions with traditional auditions. Kids can get the complete experience in a very supportive and educational environment. If your child is new to theater, let them try a 1 or 2 week summer camp. They'll go through simple auditions, cast everybody in a role, develop an entire show, and perform on a large stage, curtain and all! We are so pleased with how much she has grown in her acting, singing, dancing, speaking and social skills. My 10-yr old son's favorite place to be. He's made lots of friends and is not afraid of any stage or audience. All children are welcome and the plays range from Little Mermaid to Les Miserables. The one week camps are a great way to test the water. There are also art and voice classes and therapy classes for special needs children. I have done a few shows here and they have been the best experiences of my life. It's so easy to make friends & the kids are awesome. This is a very professional theatre teens are not treated as if this is some little kid show, it is taken seriously and the results are always great.
