I've always liked this theatre for its flexible architecture and modern feel. The theatre group has been good although it has changed over the decades. Its one of the few theaters that I will dress up for and has an open lobby area with a cash bar that is a fun and somewhat upscale space for conversation before the show which works nicely for your group to gather, converse, and socialize before the show. Addison restaurants are nearby but busy on weekends so do plan an early dinner between 5 and 6 as those restaurants are typically very busy on weekends. A plus is the "Stone Cottage" theatre in the rear which hosts a different theatre company and is which is rustic with often ribald works. There is also a large snd configurable separate meeting space which can be had for special functions or seminars. If you are into Architecture and you ever get the chance for a complete tour of the Water Tower theatre seize the opportunity because it is a very cool building with 2 levels below grade for costume and storage with three above that are absolutely amazing in how they are completely flexible for multi tier stage configurations and configurable seating tiers from several directions. read more

Upon arrival you walk in there is a box office for the main theater then a guy sitting on the Side for the smaller theatre some signs would be nice to direct you accordingly but other than that was a very pleasant experience. The xmas play we saw was for 18 and up and it did not disappoint! Definitely will be back to check out what other plays they have. This is the second time that I have been to water tower theater. The first time was many years ago and I went to see Into The Woods. Tonight we went to see The Big Meal. The theater itself is beautiful. It's small but very nice. The staff is very friendly and happy to help you with anything that you need. The seats are nice and comfortable with plenty of room. You can tell the theater puts a lot of work and money into each production. Everything is always very professional. The Big Meal is definitely not my favorite play, but they did a very good job with the production. The actors were great. The sets were simple but nice. Overall it was a very good production. We had a really nice time and enjoyed ourselves even though the play itself was very depressing. I will definitely go here whenever I have the chance. They do a terrific job. read more

Water Tower is definitely one of my favorite Dallas theaters. I used to usher at theaters all over town, so that I could see free shows, and Water Tower always had some of the best performances (and coolest sets). I live in east Dallas, so the drive to Addison is probably my least favorite thing about Water Tower Theater. That being said, it is a very cool part of Addison. It's right next to a large park, and there are several good restaurants within walking distance. The space itself (I'm referring to the main theater now) is very versatile. Sometimes the seats are at one end on the theater, sometimes they're at the other, and sometimes they have a more creative arrangement. The seats are always tiered, though, so you don't have to worry about the head of the person in front of you. When I ushered there, I was always eager to peak in and see what they'd done with the space, which brings me to my next point... Water Tower creates some of the coolest sets I've seen at any local theater. One that stands out in my head was an outdoor garden that filled the middle of the theater (with seats on either side). And, although I didn't see the show itself, I once stuck my head in while I was there for a show at the studio theater, and they had an amazing bayou set. The performances at Water Tower are of a consistent high quality. Musicals, especially, always have amazing talent in them, but the acting in the straight plays is good too. If you're looking for something other than the big touring shows that come through at the Music Hall or Winspear, Water Tower is definitely worth checking out. Support our local talent, and see a great show. And, if you're looking for something even smaller, check out a show in the studio theater; it's a great little space. There are only about 5 rows of seating, so you'll always have a great seat. read more

The town of Addison continues to amaze me with all of their free (and close to free events). Musicals at Watertower theatre cost 5.00 for students and 10.00 for regular tickets. We went here last night to see Guys and Dolls. A talented cast and fun for the entire family, make sure to bring a picnic blanket because it is a bring your own chair theatre. They sell wine/beer/margaritas for the drinkers, and have a taco truck that instead of selling tacos sells meat kabobs (if you are a vegetarian bring your own food). Please note that there are a ton of little kids running around, bathrooms = port-a-potties, and that the non-smoking policy is not enforced, but other than that, this place is a winner. read more

We have just enjoyed two extraordinary weekends of theater at WTT! Violet two weeks ago and A Feminine Ending last weekend. This is the BEST of BEST in local theater! The Out of the Loop Festival is coming up in March! Check out the website if you enjoy theater. This festival is chocked full of interesting plays for two weeks! The one we are most interested in is the Star Wars Trilogy one man show. He performs all three movies in a one hour show. It sounds right up our alley! As a cat fancier, I'm also looking forward to the play in May called Indoor/Outdoor about a cat with issues. It looks very cute and I can't wait to see it! This theater puts on such wonderful plays! Sugar Bear and I have already decided to get season tickets for next year so we don't miss anything! read more

I just got home from seeing the Guys n' Dolls. I saw something on Yelp about it and got some friends and a picnic together. We had no idea what we were getting into! It was seriously fun, and we're totally planning on going to more of their shows. The staging and lighting were good, especially for being in a park! The talent was terrific. They had the Wind Orchestra supporting them and they were stellar. I would highly suggest getting to anything that's in the out of doors early and bringing either chairs or a blanket. I read some information on their website and packed food and was really glad I did. It's bring your own everything, so make it a party! read more

I have a ton of other places on my "to yelp" list but I have to move Water Tower Theater up the list because I had a phenomenal experience. The BF, close friend and I watched Spring Awakening at The Water Tower yesterday afternoon and it was fantastic. The stage was low and in the center and the seating was perfect for this musical. You had a great view no matter where you sat. The talent for this production was fantastic for the low ticket prices ($45 a ticket), the theater itself is modern and elegant and the staff was so helpful and friendly. Even though there was another event going on near the area, parking was doable and get this...free! I'm so used to having to pay ridiculous fees to park for an event downtown that I was so happy to park free here. I loved Spring Awakening so much that I was ready to buy tickets for another show but they are all sold out! This is another great addition to the city of Addison! read more

My husband and I recently moved to Dallas, and are admittedly theatre snobs. We see as much as possible and have both worked professionally in the arts. We were lucky to see Water Tower's production of Dogfight (which was the regional premier of the show) a few weeks ago. The show was well cast and creatively directed. The FREE post-show talk back with the cast and theatre staff was as great at the show. We are very excited to see their upcoming production of Bonnie and Clyde, which just left Broadway. If you're interested in quality theatre, WTT is one of the best we've found. read more

Production of "All My Sons" Very intense two hours of absolute genius! Terry Martin was fantastic as well as the rest of the cast. In addition to the fabulous acting, the behind the scenes work did not go unnoticed. The thunder storm was real (I was in the front row so I'm glad they skipped the rain!). The set design was flawless with attention to even the smallest details and did I mention the fabulous acting? A well deserved standing ovation! Best production I've been to at Watertower Theater! Just saw Hank Williams: The Lost Highway. As always, fabulous. This is a gem of a theater with consistently high quality entertaining shows. Their pool of talent is always impressive, with SAG alongside amateur, flawlessly seamed. We come all the way from Plano :) and Addison is like a whole new world. Take your time, explore the restaurants and go to the theater. It's an evening out that will be as fun as anything you've down with a much higher price tag. read more

My wife got some free tickets to a play so we figured why not. We have never been to this location and it was pretty easy to find. The only confusion was there were other plays and our tickets were on a side table. The man that greeted us was friendly and checked us in quickly. He offered simple snacks for purchase and some canned sodas and waters. There was a bar as well, you can preorder for intermission so you dont wait in line very convenient. The play we saw was "The Burlesqe Nutcracker" which was a edgy twist of the classic play. The play was funny and interesting. Drinks prices were affordable and snacks were as well. I love Water Tower Theatre. This time we were here to see "One Man Two Guvnors." I was pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the seats. I especially liked the way we could raise or lower the arm rests and I felt like I had plenty of room for my legs/feet. The production was excellent, as usual, and quite a bit cheaper than anything playing in the Arts District. I especially like that WTT puts on performances that veer a little bit off of the mainstream. It's also very easy and convenient to find free parking nearby the theater. read more

WaterTower Theatre does performances of consistently high quality, often excellent, and should be a frequent stop for anyone in the area, who cares about good theater or just being entertained. WTT is certainly one of the major theaters in the region, mounting a wide-ranging, eclectic repertoire of recent, classic, and even world-premier plays and musicals. This is one of the local theaters that can attract the best of local talent, and it shows. Their most recent production, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, was beautifully done, and appropriately heart-breaking. WTT also puts on the popular performance festival, Out Of The Loop, in the spring, which involves numerous local performance groups, as well as others brought from around the country. Definitely check that out; it's well worth buying a festival pass if you have time to take in the many offerings over a few days, and going into the late night. WaterTower also helps develop and nurture talent, offering various educational programs, including summer workshops for kids, and classes and workshops for adults. It's also worthwhile to get involved as a volunteer, if you've time and inclination (for some of us theatrically addicted folk, volunteering is one way to feed our need when the pocketbook's complaining). But it's definitely worth subscribing if you can, and bringing friends. The facility itself is attractive and pleasant, so sip a glass of wine or beer, or cup of coffee at intermission, and enjoy whatever current art display is up, or strike up a conversation with other audience members. There are plenty of interesting restaurant options nearby (this is a couple of blocks north of the main restaurant/club row on Belt Line), some within easy, pleasant walking distance. Also check out the performances by other groups in the studio theater and the stone cottage--but those will be other reviews for later yelping. By the way--Yelp asks me if WaterTower is "good for kids." The answer, of course, is that depends on the particular show being produced, so just check things out, read, call and ask--friendly folk here, who love sharing theater with the public, and will probably enjoy answering your questions. read more

This place is a straight up gem. If you're like me, and you don't live in this area you probably would never come across it, but it's worth the drive from Dallas (or in my case Denton). The area surrounding the theater is so nice.... I would use the word quaint even. Quiet park, swanky looking small businesses. Lots of brick and the trees literally arch over the roads. I think the area would be a great place to bring a date. The theater itself is just as nice. Their landscaping is great, the area in between the theater and conference center has sculptures and lots of foliage as well. We took about 10 minutes before the show just exploring the space, and everything was well kept and clean. Atmosphere aside, we saw All my Sons, and the performance was spectacular. There was a huge thunderstorm scene in the beginning which definitely surprised me, and really displayed their special effects work. On top of that, the set design was amazing, and the theater set up worked perfectly for the show. Definitely worth the money (not that it was expensive compared to other theaters of its size). They only downside I could possibly imagine, is that the seating for the theater itself is not very comfortable. The way their chairs are designed are in sets of three, and when you sit down the entire set of three wobbles (as if it weren't level) with you if you move forward or back. Luckily I was seated next to two other people, so our weight kept the seats stationary, but had I been by myself they would have moved forward or back each time I leaned a different way. However- of course this is a minor complaint- the overall experience was easily 5 stars. read more

My partners mom had extra tickets, so we decided to go see Smoky Joe's last night. Cute little show with some pretty amazing singers. It was also nice and cool inside the theater which on a day where it is 109 outside, was quite nice. Seating was good, maybe a little crowded, but overall not bad. Saw "It's a Wonderful Life" radio play here on the 8th. This is one of the great things to do in Dallas. The theatre is put together well, spacious but intimate. The show itself was an extremely novel and entertaining take on a Christmas classic. From the minute my daughter and I walked until we left the theatre staff was engaging, enthusiastic and friendly. Our first experience at Water Tower Theatre in Addison was a win! We already have plans for more. The play we saw was an adult-comedy, Christmas-themed musical about a Florida trailer park. The production and cast were first rate, polished and professional. This venue is small, intimate, with great acoustics. You feel like you're part of the show. I can't believe we are just enjoying this level of theatre in our backyard. We ate and drank at a nearby pub and walked to the show, best date my hubs and I have had in awhile! read more

I will never go to this place again. We were here to see Creep to celebrate our aunt's birthday and due to traffic on a tollway no less, got there at 2:05 for a 2:00 show. Not only did we find out our seats were given away but realized there is no refund. So they are making double the money on the same seats by selling seats to someone else but refusing to give you back your money. I have been to plays in Washington, DC and look forward to going to see some in New York on Broadway and never expect to be treated like this. This is a total scam and we will be paying for tickets to something we never saw. Nice way to make $160 bucks. Hope you are happy. I have never been so disgusted. read more

Purchased tickets to see Creep, we had trouble getting out of our dinner reservations and arrived at the theater at 8:04. Upon arrival we were advised by a young man with an accent who advised us that there was no late seating. He apologized and said he would gladly escort us to the the lounge to await for act 2 to start. We were the advised by another man that we were not promised the ticket we purchased as they were given to someone else and there would be no refunds. Having been to Broadway and other musical productions, this has never been an issue. Knowing that we spend over $200 on tickets and they were just 'given' away with no option of an refund will ensure that we would never contemplate a return to this location. Basically the theater made a double profit on tickets we already purchased. Would have been satisfied with a partial refund or potentially tickets to another show. Definitely will not return. read more
