Wow, I can't believe how much Northampton Place has improved since my last review! It went from a 1 star to a 4 star in my book. The new Board of Directors has really turned things around for the better. They've made so many positive changes, like adding new plants in the lobby, comfy pillows in the courtyard, and even cool firepit guards. They're also tastefully updating the old, rundown corridors to make them look more modern. The board meetings are now friendly and quick, with decisions being made without arguments or tedious doscussions.The atmosphere here is so much better now. The only downsides are the high staff turnover and some not-so-great neighboring buildings. I'll keep updating my review as things continue to change. read more

Lived here 15 years; Great staff, residents and amenities--outdoor pool, workout facility, business center, separate resident lounge, party room, underground parking and 24 hour security! And Close to everything in Alexandria, VA (right off 395 and King St.)--the new West End Development; 3 minutes from Shirlington restaurants, 5-7 minutes from Old Town; 8-10 minutes from Crystal City, Potomac Yards, and the new business Amazon! It's called a luxury condo, you pay for a luxury condo but you don't have the comfort and peace. Number of units renovating for sale is increasing and honestly you feel you're living near a construction site with all banging and load noises. (Wonder why people keep selling their units!) Complaints are not responded, but "handled". Meaning you will be directed to chase your tail, with no actual action. Management refer to the Board of Director, and BOD tells you to contact the management!!! Obviously it is the board who makes the decision. It used to be a safe place, despite added cameras we had incidents of peoples things being stolen from the garage storage. One huge downside is that the garage is shared and has access from NHP an also Alexander Apartments. BOD and management failed to address the source of issues and resolve the problems . People keep leaving, renting out or selling. I like the new management but the board is disappointing! read more

Management is horrible. People who live here always complain about something. They treat you like a kid. If you want to live in the place where you will have to constantly to deal with some complaints then go ahead and do it. Also,they sadly wont even try to work with you to make your leaving easirt. I can not wait to move out,just not a good vibe. read more

This place is full of older people who are always complaining. The manager will call you in the middle of the night if she feels like it and complain about something that can be taken care of in the morning (rude!) This is an update to my original review of Northampton Place condominiums in West Alexandria, Virginia. Since I wrote my original review several things have changed. First, and one of the most important things, is a BOD member was removed who was the origin of many of the problems discussed in the original review. A couple others moved from the building and are no longer members of the board. They were replaced by individuals who truly care about the community. They listen to residents and take action to do the best thing for the majority, for the maintenance of our beautiful building and for the fiscal responsibility of our financial reserves. They are actively moving towards reinstating committees, which were abolished during the former BOD terms. These include a social committee, covenants committee and budget committee, etc.. I am happy to say that we are moving in the right direction. I gave a 4 star review because there are still several issues that are being addressed by the community, however our values are rising and I think we are on the right track, finally! As I said in my other review, nothing would make me happier than to give my condominiums a 5 star review and I think we are on the path to do just that, so stay tuned Below are a couple pictures of our new community lounge which was recently added to our amenities. read more

I have been here since 2015. Very nice units. They all look very upscale due to modern, spacious kitchen areas and floor to ceiling windows. They are on top of maintenance and others have mentioned it is all in good working order. It can get a little annoying though, when they do renovations on the garage and you can't use your parking spot for a good week or so. The hallway and entryway however look a little dated, you can definitely tell the building was built in early 2000, the decorative elements are starting to show their age. The gym equipment a little old as well. (However they are going to renovate the gym soon). Moving into one of the units is a breeze thanks to the large freight elevator that is connected to the their docking area where you can park your moving truck. Overall it is very well insulated against noise, but of course your mileage may vary due to neighbors. After 10pm or so I just switch to headphones when I am playing music, video games, or movies. I honestly never hear a darn thing, which is kind of creepy after a while. The windows so insulated I can't ever hear the weather or wind either. Management is very good, and front desk if helpful and friendly especially when you have a lot of mail or packaged delivered. I disagree that this place is very convenient to metro. You need to take a bus and it can take a good 15-20 minutes to reach the nearest Metro station (Pentagon). It is super convenient to 395 so you can quickly get to DC or go toward 495 with your car. Very safe neighborhood, never had any issues with crime. The garage is super awesome in the winter since you never have to shovel. Limited street parking however, if you have guests visiting. They do have guest parking spots at least, in the garage. read more

I came to meet a client at this complex and the front desk concierge manager April was absolutely amazing. Super friendly, and extremely professional. I'm in real estate and I definitely will be telling my friends about these condos if they're looking in the Alexandria area. They have a library and a pool table room, a small fm, and a swimming pool during summer time. Not too pricy. A good maintenance. Only thing I don't like is a noisy dog on the floor. Some people complain but they don't do anything to fix the issue. If you don't mind a dog barking all day long, you could live here. read more

I have been living at Northampton Place as an owner since July 2015 and absolutely love it! Management is so nice and accommodating and does an amazing job of maintaining the building like new. It's dog friendly and in a great location right off 395. It offers great amenities (pool, gym, game room, etc.) and the underground garage is a huge plus. Definitely recommend renting or owning here. read more

I have lived at Northampton Place for about a year now. I am a renter, not an owner. I don't doubt that the other review had a bike stolen, that has happened to others since I have lived here, but the garage doors do work now. I guess to solve the bike issue put a lock around it. I have a 600 sq. ft. studio and no extra storage in the garage. If you want a lot of extra space then I guess you will have to move out to the country somewhere. I don't mind not having a lot of space. I have room enough for what I need. I think the management folks are nice. Maybe they are not the same people that the other reviewer had interactions with. When we lost power in the recent storm they handled it very well. It's quiet for the most part, but being in a studio I do hear a lot of hallway noise. The neighbors are friendly. I haven't noticed any of the structural issues that the other review mentioned - perhaps they have fixed them. I think if you just get rid of excess stuff, put a lock on your bike, work to secure a second parking space if you need one, then this place is great. My only complaint is that I wish it was closer to a metro station. read more

The only solutions they offer involved expanding their contract, adding more covered services, additional manpower, more maintenance, more repairs, more work that they get paid to do. (in essence, padding their pockets more). You do not need Cardinal Management Group to schedule a meeting, hold a meeting, vote on issues, and recall your board members, vote on new board members, enter into contracts, hire contractors. If you are experiencing problems recall the board and start over. read more

We have lived here almost five years now and are owners. The 24 hour concierge is wonderful - great staff all around that help make this place home! Commuting to D.C. is a breeze taking only 40 mins door to door using the bus stop right in front of the building that goes directly to the Pentagon. And if I miss that bus, or in the evening I have my choice of about four other buses from the Pentagon that put me within two blocks. Pet friendly building and I know most of my neighbors by their dog. People are quite friendly and neighborly but also private, which sometimes can be hard to feel in a condo. I don't hear my neighbors as sound proofing is pretty good here. Other reviewers talk about the garage and building construction- this has been the first in five years. The parking issue was really only one week. With the renovation, we have never been charged a special assessment. All in all it's been a great place to live so far! read more

I felt like I needed to write this review in order to even the average score out. Honestly I've only been in this building for about 3 months so if something changes I'll definitely write about it. BUT...since moving here I've been nothing but happy. I came out of a pretty shitty situation and moving into a place like this REALLY helped me move forward with my life. The people here are fantastic, the building is clean, elegant and just awesome. The staff is super friendly ALL THE TIME. PLenty of space to walk your dog if you're an owner...and there are SO many dog owners here...it's kind of awesome. Still cold out so I haven't been able to use the pool. I have, however, used the gym and it's pretty basic but has everything you need...plus it's super clean and there's a spacious locker room with a sauna...great after I do some miles on the tread mill. Everyone who lives there seems pretty nice and I'm used to getting sideways looks from people (I've never really been able to afford to live in a place this nice) but here you really do feel at home. The area downstairs is great for parties or just to hangout and study/relax. There's a billiard room as well that's super elegant but I haven't used it yet. My Pug Boomer seems to really like it there. My space really impresses any of my friends that visit. It honestly is VERY nice and super comfortable. Coming home after work feels much cooler than it has in the past. I'm trying to think of what else to say...hmmm...well I will say that my rent is much higher than it's been in the past but i've never lived alone and it's very true when they say "you get what you pay for". I spent much time researching places to relocate, came upon this place and never looked back. Give this place a look and u won't be dissapointed. read more

My wife wrote a review here also, and this is my continuation of our saga in this horrible building. Trash cans. In short, there is not enough of them, because apparently the "generous" management decided to get rid of them in order to pay less for the cleaning services. Again, why should we pay more for the residents needs from their own condo association money, if we can have it all for cheap? We realized this when suddenly out of the blue the trash can in the mail room disappeared. And if you keep in mind how much junk mail everybody receives in their mailboxes, this was more than an inconvenience. Naturally, people started putting their junk mail on the table in the mail room instead of taking them to their apartments. But because there has to be law and order in North Hampton Place, we later got a love letter from one of the Komissars telling us that they tracked us down by the apartment number on the junk mail and from now on we have to behave ourselves and take the junk mail to our apartments and throw it away in our own trash cans. If all this is not enough for you to give up your crazy idea of moving into this place or buying a condo here, consider the fact that you are going to have to spend a FORTUNE on the light bulbs, because they CONSTANTLY burn down. We cannot even count the money we spent on these expensive light bulbs that were supposed to last for years but last only a few months. All evidence points to the electrical being of the cheapest quality slapped together by a company that is no longer in business. And this leads us to cheap electrical and Comcast. if you move to this place, consider yourself stuck with one of the worst companies in the whole world - Comcast. Comcast will be your ball and chain for as long as you are here. This is because Comcast has a monopoly in this area and you pretty much do not have a choice in cable TV, internet and phone services other than not having any. Your TV drops the audio every 3-5 minutes, and your internet is as slow as a turtle sometimes. The latest beauty pulled off by the management was the notorious garage cleaning that is done every year. The Komissar's order was "ALL cars must be removed from the garage by 6:45AM otherwise they will be towed away at the expense of the owner" but because the management really cares about us so much, they worked out a deal with the neighboring Alexander building that will let us park our cars on their side at first-come-first-serve basis exactly from 6:45AM, no earlier, otherwise they will be towed away. So imagine the nice picture early morning at exactly 6:45AM when EVERY resident rushes to get their car to the Alexander side and tries to find a space on first-come-first-serve basis. What a refreshing start of your work day, you don't even need to go to the gym on that day because your heart will be pumping fast all day anyway from your morning experience. The way this building is run is just a disaster. No sense that it is being managed as a home. It is like a big dorm. Looks like a special production by Cardinal Management Group. read more

This is a great building to live in, the people are friendly and the building staff are wonderful. We love the convenience to DC, Old Town and Shirlington. We love that the building is so new in comparison with some of the other buildings we looked at. The elevators are really smooth and fast which make it real convenient when you're in a rush. We have a spectacular view of Arlington and DC and the layout of the condos are very luxurious in comparison to the other buildings in the area. Coming from NYC you really get a lot for you money here, so if you decide to make this your next home we hope you love as much as we do. read more

Oh yeah, let me tell you all about this place in one long and tragic saga so other people don't get traumatized in the future by the experience of living here. We are so unfortunate as to live here and cannot wait to get the hell out. Thank God we did not buy a condo in this building or even anywhere around it. Let me begin by saying that the first days we moved in our bike got stolen from the garage that North Hampton Place shares with neighboring Alexander building. Not a very surprising turn of events if you take into account that the garage doors were almost always OPEN kindly welcoming every intruder. And whenever we would complain about the garage doors being open (turned out they were broken and couldn't get fixed properly), we would get an attitude from the manager. Then we had to fight with the management about the storage bins. Storage bins are SMALL and will hardly fit two big suitcases and one computer box. We had too much stuff so obviously 1 storage bin was not enough, so we put some boxes next to our bin in the common area. Just a few months later our boxes were cut and torn and shuffled through. When we complained about that, we received another waive of attitude from the management. Eventually that led to a new no-loose-items-in-the-common-area rule, keep in mind that the common area is huge and the bins occupy only half of it, while there are people like us who don't have room for their stuff. So you would think a clever management would try to somehow tend to the residents' needs. But not here! In fact, one of the managers has a very effective way of dealing with the residents needs: you don't even finish your sentence when she starts shaking her head "no", and believe me, she does it EVERY time you ask for something without even giving you a chance to finish your thought. One great example of my earlier point was when we realized that our door wouldn't lock anymore. After $400 in locksmith fees and a long blood-thirsty war with the same nice and always ready-to-help management always shaking their head "no", we finally got the condo association to admit that this was a door frame issue. Why didn't they want to admit that was a door frae issue? Because door frame issues fall under the responsibility of the condo association and are paid by the condo association. Then after speaking with the engineers, it turned out that this 3-year-old building has major issues with settling and it affects the door frames. This led us to realize that the builder just did the bare minimum work on this so-called "luxury" apartment complex. The builder we later came to find out keeps two lobbyists on his staff so they could lobby the crappy builder's interests, get the lamest laws passed, construct crappy buildings like this, label them as "luxury" and fool consumers with the label. By the way, our relationship with the two managers of this building (or should I call them "Komissars"?), is just SPECIAL. Let me start by saying that these managers are not residents of this building so they could care less for the local residents. We came to find out that they are employees of a 3rd-party management company and they are paid by the condo association. Oh, no wonder there is this corporate "I don't give a damn about you as long as I get my money" attitude! These so-called managers are employees of a certain Cardinal Management Group, Inc. Another issue was the hot water. It had been 2 years that we did not have REAL hot water, just recently they fixed it and finally we know what real hot water feels like. Plus, every time they do some work with the water pipes, they shut off the water starting at 8:00AM or 9:00AM on a work day, while most people leave for work around that time. So this means you need to wake up around 6AM to complete all your water-related business. Again, they could care less for the residents' needs. Parking is another saga in itself in this building. If you have two cars and have a 1-bedroom place, then most of your time will be spent on parking space hunting. The closest parking space you might get is in the neighboring building for $90 a month. Yes, $90, in Virginia, NOT even DC! read more
