Scranton's attempt at a hipster staffed coffee joint with free wifi. Fantastic location and close to Radisson. Perhaps the smallest breakfast sandwich ever and expensive. The sandwiches and wraps are healthy and hearty though. Coffee has an unusual flavor. (I ordered my usual triple shot Americano.) Overall, the bar is set low for Scranton so this is fine. Go elsewhere though if you want to eat a meal. This is just for a snack and a coffee. read more

Great place to relax downtown. They showcase some great local roasters for those who love coffee. Unfortunately they don't do pour overs but it's a very active place so I understand. Good coffee nonetheless. Very cozy feel and a great ambience. Very nice and friendly staff. Good small town feel. The coffee is OK nothing to really brag about. I am currently sitting outside at 7:26 in the morning in the blistering heat. The two girls that are working "snubbed" me as I was walking in the building saying in a rude tone "we aren't open" This is not my first time coming here. The other gentleman that work behind the counters seem put off and bothered by their job. The yogurt is my favorite. The first time it was a raspberry blend and when I asked the women whAt kind of blend it was the second time she said I on early have no idea it's just yogurt and some type of smoothie stuff. WOW real professional. Well as I sit out here in the blistering heat the two employees that were outside smoking in front of the building go in. Now wouldn't you tell everyone who is sweating profusely waiting to go in that you were open now? No! They still did not, I went in grabbed my coffee and was shunned basically because I didn't get coffee. The atmosphere is very calming, I'm almost sleeping as I'm writing this here. The lighting is so so could be a bit brighter. Difficult to read my book. All in all I won't be using this as a hang out spot. I'll get my over priced yogurt $4.50 a pop and go. read more

Cute cafe in the courthouse square of Scranton. I didn't try the coffee because I was already overly caffeinated, but I had the ham, dill, and gouda sandwich, which was pretty decent, if a little dry. I didn't have any of the service problems that other reviewers have mentioned. There were 2 counter people and one guy was very friendly and helpful, and the other guy was sort of surly and indifferent. All in all, nice atmosphere, free wifi, and beautiful view of the courthouse across the street. read more

I would give it five stars, except sometimes they play hard rock music, making it difficult to concentrate on the laptop work, and also when I bring guests we all decide we have to find a different coffee shop, without the hard rock music. read more

This place is great! I love the loft. Me and my girlfriend go here often. She studies and I read and use the free wifi to spend all my money on things i don't need. I have yet to have a bad drink here. There are tons of books and magazines to read of you forget your own. Great relaxed attitude. Great place to go and mellow with some friends. Great coffee spot across from the courthouse. On my first try, I had the organic chai with soy. It was delicious & not as sweet as regular chai tea. Today, I had the white pomegranate tea. Also, an excellent choice if you're looking for a caffeinated but non-green or black tea option. The cafe has free wifi and a nice relaxed vibe. Great place to get some work done on my lap top. Stopped in for the first time in a long while for a quick bite. They make a big deal about the roasters they use, but I was unimpressed with the specific coffee I tried. I found it to be extraordinarily weak; it delivered on its "tropical notes" but lacked body. The same can be said of the staff. They have self-serve coolers full of prepackaged lunch items from Caravia, a local Italian deli/caterer. I was a little put off by the $7.50 price tag on a self-serve prepackaged salad, but it was overloaded beyond expectations with baby spinach, dried cherries, sort-of-candied pecans and a heap of goat cheese, making it well worth it. I'm pretty sure the shop has changed hands once or twice, and feels a lot less "Montana" than it used to. Back then, their loft area served as my afternoon escape from work. It's a nice place to spend time - very easy to forget you're in Scranton. I once found an egg-sized piece of eggshell - basically the whole thing - in one of their muffins. Cute. read more

This is a great café to go to. The tea variety and flavors are amazing. As is the staff. The salads are very tasty. There is one with feta cheese and it is delicious! if you want to buy tea, they put in a baggy to take (these are loose teas not tea bags). On the go or sit and eat. Thumbs up! read more

Love this place. They have yummy drinks, great snacks and nice, healthy packaged lunches. I love getting a hot chocolate which is as big as my head and sitting on the comfy sofa all afternoon laughing out loud as I read their Calvin and Hobbes book. Northern Light has a lot going for it. It's situated in the downtown area in a nice building with lots of natural light. It has a good amount of space and varied seating areas for relaxing, for reading or for reminiscing with old friends over a drink. Northern also utilizes local foods in their sandwiches and they roast their beans locally. However, those roasts are hit or miss. I'm pretty partial to the espresso roast. It's complex and unique, where Starbucks' espresso is much less compelling. But many of the coffee roasts are less interesting and I'm yet to taste a smooth roast among them. As others have noted, speed is not anyone's forte here. I've never been in a hurry any time I've visited, though I imagine if I ever was in a hurry I might be frustrated by the slow service. That said, most of the baristas are friendly and seem professional enough behind the counter. read more

Northern Light Espresso Bar is as good as it gets. I was here this past weekend and really have to rave about how good this place is. I've been to a bunch of coffee houses all over the Philly area, but... the coffee here blows everything I've had right out of the water. The caramel lattes will not disappoint you. As far as coffee places in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area go, Northern Light is pretty good. I'm a fan of their drip coffee and they have a great chai selection. The Baristas know what they're doing, can properly steam milk, and even do a little latte art. I appreciate that. Two gripes: it's a little expensive (I once paid $4.75 for a small mocha with peppermint syrup, plus change for the parking meter), and something about the vanilla latte tastes a LITTLE bit funny to me. But other than that, it's a good morning coffee stop. read more
