I had the pleasure of dropping in this cute little bakery during my trip to Corolla, NC with my twin. The owner was very enthusiastic and eager to explain the product on the display case and chatted us up about our visit. Even though the selection wasn't very big (in comparison to what would be the busy season as I've seen in photos) there was a good variety of goods on display and it still gave me the difficult task of picking something. My sister selected the "Magic Bar" or "Seven Layer Bar" where I'm from which is pecans, chocolate chips, coconut on a blondie bar. She ordered a bourbon vanilla frappe. Highest compliments to the owner; my sister is very picky with her sweets and even worse with her frappes (she's a die hard Starbucks fan who doesn't normally like to try new things) and she loved them both. As for me, I was in the mood for a good breakfast pastry as I was trying to minimize overeating while travelling heavy (yes, I'm not lost on the irony that I think I'm eating light by having ONE breakfast pastry). The croissant with strawberry and cream cheese caught my eye as I don't normally see that too much anywhere else unless its a Danish. (The owner is not too fond of Danish, he told me, and recreated it with croissant. I kind feel the same way as I think Danish is a bit too heavy). I had it two days later and it actually still tasted fresh!! The fluffy light texture of the croissant went well with tangy strawberry and creamy cheese. Wasn't overly sweet or filled so it didn't leave me a goopy mess! My only regret was not getting more stuff from here!!! Not sure when I'll ever see Corolla again, but I know for sure if I could list three reasons to come back, this would be one! read more

Staying nearby on vacation, Northern Lights Bakery was a pleasant way to enjoy mornings at the beach. Every morning we walked from our condo to the bakery, pick out our goods and made our way to the beach to enjoy it. The coffee was tasty and the pastries, all made on site, were delectable. The donuts were the best we had on our trip (we also stopped by a place called Duck Donuts, and let me assure you, the baked goods from NLB were 100 times better). The ladies who worked the counters were friendly and every time we were there everyone, customers and employees alike, were having a good time. We also enjoyed a strawberry cheese cake made at the bakery that was given to us by the owners of the condo we were staying in. Visiting the outer banks this week and looking for a place that has coffee and breakfast sandwiches. This bakery is nice because instead of the usual bagel breakfast sandwich, they offer croissants and biscuits! They also have an assortment of bakery items from sweet treats, to muffins and donuts. We tried the bacon egg and cheese croissant which was huge and delicious. Definitely try one of those. We also ordered several donuts (they have raised and cake). The donuts had a hard sugary frosting which we weren't big fans of but the apple fritter was really good. I ordered an iced Nutella latte and it was great. Would definitely come back for breakfast sandwiches and coffee and the very friendly service! read more

Don't go anywhere else! Absolutely the best breakfast sandwich in the Outer Banks! The biscuits are great. Moist, fluffy goodness. The eggs are seasoned very well making them a key ingredient of the sandwich not just a necessary component. The croissants are buttery, flakey everything a croissant should be. Can't believe I have lived here part time for years and have never stopped in. I am going back tomorrow to get a sampling of the baked goods. Decided to take the kiddos on a bike ride and see what all the fuss was about. There was 4 of us, 1 adult & 3 kids (12+). We found the place with little trouble, parked our bikes and entered the little hole in the wall. We didn't have to wait long and everything looked delicious! I tried the strawberry croissant with cream cheese and blueberry oatmeal muffin. Both were very good. The kids got a donut with chocolate sprinkles, cinnamon roll and bacon, egg and cheese on a buttermilk biscuit. "The donut was good, but not DD worthy. The cinnamon roll was the bomb. The sandwich was good, but lacking flavor." Our server appeared like she wasn't happy to be there. But the rest of the staff was very polite and welcoming. This place has the best coffee I've had in the Outer Banks by far! I haven't gotten the chance to sample all of their bakery items, but their donuts were on par with the reigning legend around here (ahem, Duck Donuts). We showed up at 7:30 am and there was a line out the door. We understood once we tasted the pastries and came back two days later. Big and tender cinnamon rolls, apple smashleys full of apples, buttery biscuits with eggs and sausage, and pecan sticky bun were the best. Although most will not come here for it, the ricotta and spinach croissant was the right amount of goodness that I needed for breakfast and would make a nice lunch too. They have donuts too and they looked really good but I would rather have any of the other special treats. Just come early!!!! read more

This bakery was OUTSTANDING!!!! My family and I have been coming down to the Outer Banks for the last 18 years, and we have never used any bakery before. This year, for the fourth of July we ordered 3 dozen of their chocolate ganache brownies with chocolate chips in them. There are 22 people in our family, and everyone was raving about these brownies. Honestly they were the best brownies that I've ever had in my life, and everyone else agreed. They were absolutely amazing and we will definitely be ordering these every single year from now on!!!
