I frequent the UPS store next to NL and after checking them out online decided to order some gluten free pies. Super helpful that they do not cut the pizzas (to protect against cross-contamination), but give you a pizza cutter! The store is a normal pizza pick-up location with some seats to eat inside. The GF pizzas were tasty, nice crust and toppings. Way better than the national chains and better service too. read more

Had 2 small pizzas, one thin crust and one gluten free. Thin crust was excellent with their Italian sausage and black olives. Nice balance of cheese, sauce and toppings. My wife really liked her gf crust which is almost as good as the regular crust. My only complaint is no indoor dining. Pizza tastes so much better fresh from the oven rather than pulled from a box. My pizza was delivered by a super friendly young man. My order was exactly how I ordered it, complete with the extra condiments I ordered. I've read a bunch of reviews about this place and I can't help but think that these people have no idea what in the hell they're talking about. this is one of the best pizzas I have had in a very long time. I was really disappointed with Northern Lights tonight. I love their pizza and breadsticks and was excited to have it for dinner tonight. I went into the Ankeny location to pick up my food and noticed that no one in the store was wearing gloves as they were prepping the food. I noticed one guy pull up his pants, use a microwave, and grab ingredients to put on someone's order all with his bare hands. Needless to say I did not eat the pizza I had picked up and instead went to Papa Murphy's. With all the illness going around, it's not worth the food safety risk. read more

I keep hearing northern lights pizza on the radio all the time so I gave it a shot and my first experience wasn't that great. I got a medium size Louisiana chicken I didn't add anything extra as I wanted to enjoy the actual work of the chef. And I see almost half of my pizza is just crust as you see in the picture. And I literally ‍ thought I spent 16$ for this medium size pizza. For a person like me I am not a big fan of crust if I was I would have just baked bread at home. In fairness, my review is on a delivery order and food always loses something from the kitchen to the door versus to the table. I ordered the Hawaiian pizza with a hand toss crust. The presence of the pineapple overpowered the other toppings of Canadian bacon and green pepper. The crust was a little soggy and toppings feel off when I tried to pick up slices. The taste was delicious, so I will try this place again in person instead of ordering from my hotel room. I must confess that I added the brownie bites as a special treat. They were definitely yummy chocolately, but were slightly underbaked. I will visit soon to update my review. read more

We've ordered northern lights a few times to make sure we didn't have just one poor experience. The commercials, and seeing delivery cars around, are tempting. But the food just isn't good. The pizza itself is little Caesars quality, at best. The biggest issue is the grease. Everything is drowned in "butter"/grease. Leftovers can't be stored in the cardboard pizza box because it's dripping in grease. Everything that comes into contact with Northern Lights boxes must be deep cleaned because of the grease. Terrible customer service. I have ordered from this location at least 10 times since moving to my new home. Never had any issues, I called to make my usual order on 1/23 and they said I was outside of the delivery area. The manager was an ass and said they made a mistake the last time. Make this your go-to for delivery! We've ordered from them several times, and it's always been hot, fresh and amazing. The pizza-like menu items are just as good as the regular pizza. So, unlike some other pizza chains, there are so many options other than just a plain pizza. We've liked the Scooby snacks, which are similar to a calzone, but much longer. The meat was really generous, and overall cooked perfectly. We also really enjoyed the rattlesnake pasta, just spicy enough. All of the cheesy, garlicky breads are amazing! This is my favorite local pizza place. We have only done pick up so I cannot really comment on dining in (is that even an option?) or having delivery. Positives: 1. The taco pizza is my absolute most favorite taco pizza EVER. I love that not only so many toppings come with the taco pizza but also that they come on the side. Taking a piece of pizza is truly like building your own taco. 2. They are serious when they say the pepperoni pizza has "double" pepperoni. 3. We have always found the wait time for food to be short. 4. Quality is consistent 5. The garlic butter sauce is pretty darn delicious, you can even buy an entire bottle from them if you would like. 6. Did I mention I LOVE the taco pizza? Negatives: 1. The specials are pretty lacking and I have never seen any deal for specialty pizzas or anything with more than 2 toppings. 2. Their mushrooms come from a can. Just had the most uncomfortable phone call with the people who work here. They had called and said we called their delivery driver a b word and they didn't want to bring back the root beer that they originally forgot... and continued to insist that we called the driver a B word! Which we would never do. We tipped the driver and no harmful names were said. I got a pizza and breadsticks which I picked up from the restaurant. I would have preferred delivery but $2.25 delivery fee seems high, especially since I doubt it goes to the driver so I still have to tip them $2.00 too. The online ordering system is a bit.... peculiar but I managed to navigate it and place my order easily enough. I will say I wouldn't mind if they were to participate with paypal (or maybe even grubhub) so I wouldn't have to track down my wallet and type in my card number when ordering. I am a big fan of the crust and the breadsticks, they are both really well done and taste fantastic. The toppings and sauce were fine, just nothing particularly impressive. I have been told that the Scooby Snacks are what I should be getting from here and next time I'll give that a shot. Edit: had to re-review after ordering today. The pizza I got was as expected but I didn't realize it was possible to sell wings as gross as they do. I was really craving taco pizza. I looked into other typical places like pizza hut or other big box names-- I didn't find what I was looking for. Like the other reviewer, I noticed Northern Lights delivery cars more than others in this area. So I thought I would give them a try. I was impressed to see I could order online (lived in Washington, DC for 3.5 years and everything was order-able online whereas it doesn't seem to be the norm here). I decided to order some asiago bread sticks, a medium taco pizza, and a two-liter of Pepsi (because I guess it's not legal to deliver beer, so I'll take another carbonated beverage). I was quoted a delivery time of 40 minutes. When the pizza arrived 30 minutes later, I was happy to feel the heat radiating off my pizza and a chilled Pepsi bottle. The taco pizza came with the toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, Doritos) on the side with lots of taco sauce packets. The pizza itself was smothered in delicious cheese with lots of ground beef and onions. It was tasty! I ordered it as a thing crust, but with so much cheese the crust became very soggy quickly. I think a hearty crust would stand up to the cheese or I could ask for less cheese. It was a good pie and taste great. The bread sticks were tasty too. It had some oregano or something delicious like that sprinkled on it. And they were like hand rolled logs of delicious bread. And there were so many that I can have some with soup later this week. The delivery driver was polite, though you should probably have your own pen just in case. I don't fault the delivery driver-- ball point pens are fickle beasts. I think Northern Lights just became my go-to pizza delivery. read more
