For a motel that is as sparsely occupied and poorly maintained as this place (a real shame - so much potential), they were incredibly rude when we called the front desk to ask if we could have 11:30 checkout instead of 11am on a Sunday morning - and told us we would be charged a late fee if not out by 11am. Apparently it is a new corporate policy to squeeze more $$ out of customers at the expense of good service. It's not like anyone needed to get into the room or anything! Thankfully the gentleman checking the rooms saw us moving stuff to our car and told us we could take our time. But the damage had already been done, stressing us out and ruining our vacation morning vibe. We wont be staying there again! read more

Extremely Disappointing Stay - Dirty Cabins, No Heat, and No Power I was really excited about staying here because the location and the idea of a cozy cabin sounded great. Unfortunately, the experience ended up being one of the worst stays I've had. The first cabin we were given lost power within about 30 minutes, so we had to pack up and move to a second cabin. That alone was frustrating, but the second cabin wasn't much better. The cabin had visible mold in the bathroom around the shower and door frame, and the overall cleanliness was very concerning. There were stains on the windowsill and walls, and surfaces looked like they hadn't been properly cleaned. The room just felt unsanitary and poorly maintained. One of the main reasons we booked was because the cabins advertise fireplaces, but when we arrived the fireplace in our cabin did not work. When we asked about it, we were told that only one out of the seven cabins actually has a working fireplace, which felt very misleading considering it's advertised as an amenity. The heating units inside the cabins barely worked, which made the cabin uncomfortable. On top of that, there was a sign inside the second cabin stating that all cabins share one small water heater and guests need to be conservative with hot water. That's definitely something that should be disclosed before booking, especially when you're expecting a normal hot shower during your stay. Between the power outage in the first cabin, mold and cleanliness issues, non-working fireplace, weak heating, and shared hot water, the experience was extremely disappointing. Even after moving cabins, the problems continued. I have already contacted Expedia and shared photos of the conditions, because the cleanliness and maintenance issues were not acceptable for a paid stay. The area itself is beautiful, but the cabins clearly need major cleaning, maintenance, and honest advertising about the amenities. We booked this hotel a week ahead of time. When we arrived, the power was out and expected to be back on at 4:30pm. Our reservation that day started at 3pm and we had to request a cancellation of our room because the power wasn't back on and it was nearly 8pm. When we requested pro rating for the hours without power the clerk said "no. But I can cancel Your room for you. Actually no I can't because you booked through Hotels.com." I called them and my refund was approved. At no point did the clerk show any sign of sympathy or even offer a sorry? Ps. They knew one week ago that the power would be out and didn't inform us prior to arrival. This place is trash. read more

If I could rate ZERO I would! I was traveling with my 80-year-old mother to California to meet my new granddaughter. My parents always took my children here and thought it would be great and nostalgic for us to stay here. BIG MISTAKE! The Queen has lost it's once grand stature! No more bubble pool, restaurant is closed down, cabins are run down. Our arrival was into a room with windows wide open (it was in the low 40's outside). Gas log fireplace is no longer useful, only for looks as front desk stated. Wall unit could barely heat the space. Website stated kitchenette... yet there are zero utensils, plates, cups, etc. Apparently you have to provide your own if you plan to cook your own meals. My daughter had come to visit with her newborn and the glass cover on the ceiling fan light came crashing to the floor and shattered across the room! This place should be avoided at all costs! This is false advertising because we were given one room that was extremely outdated and smelled badly then were given a cabin-also with zero renovations. The kitchenette had no utensils, cups, plates, pan- nothing. Whats the point of having a kitchen if u can't use it? the bed was old and uncomfortabl, the loveseat was ok on one site and super springy and hard on the other side. the bathroom had ants. It was not worth the money that was charged. I was so excited when I saw the website of updates, only to be disappointed and angry for their misrepresentation of their room. Dirtiest hotel room I've ever been in. The bedspread on my bed was dirty. The mirror and wall between the mirror and sink counter had stuff all over it (I don't even want to guess what it is). The shower curtain had stains and about a 10" mildewy band at the bottom of it and made the bathroom smell funky. It's odd... There was an overpowering Pine Sol smell when we got to the room, but I get the feeling that nothing was cleaned. The hotel is in a pretty area and close to downtown Nevada City and the A/C worked well and was pretty quiet, but I definitely wouldn't stay here again. read more

I was charged for the room and the cleaning deposit but told by smug front desk clerk that my card was denied. I ended up having to sleep in my car that night. It's been 10 days and still nothing has been done by this establishment to correct the issue or refund me my deposit and I'm still out $200. I reserved my room at this establishment via Google Travel on a last minute non-refundable rate. When attempting to check in, the front desk receptionist stated that my card was declined for the refundable cleaning deposit of $100.00. After confirming the funds were available I requested she try to run it again and again she said the card was denied. I asked if there was any way I could pay cash for the cleaning deposit and she declined. I asked her for a supervisor or the owner to see if they would make an exception and she refused to escalate. The front desk clerk clearly had no interest in assisting me figure this out and sent me on my way without shelter for the night, only to find out later that the reason the card was declining was because she had already processed the cleaning deposit payment. After bringing my Credit card statement to the property Manager to prove that my reservation was denied despite them charging all applicable fees, the manager looked at her computer and told me that her records reflected they never charged me. Again I showed her my statement showing that they did. She handed me some papers from her computer stating that they didn't and told me it could take up to a week for bank to refund the deposit. The Manager accepted no responsibility for the error or my inconvenience nor did she offer any resolution. I asked her to comp. me a future night for the non-refundable charges on the google reservation. She said the best she could do was to give google travel a call and see if they will refund my charges and did not offer any other apology or concession. Im still short $200 in my account weeks later and have wasted so much time on this. The front desk clerk was rude and condescending and both she and the manager appeared obtuse regarding any professional responsibility they had failed to provide. VERY DISAPPOINTING read more

Don't do it. This is NOT A great spot to stay even just one night. First off, I tried checking in one hour after checking in and one of the guys in the front office had a problem finding me a room. And then after I finally got a room, I had to go to the office twice to get a new room key because mine stopped working. But this is the WORST part. Roaches. COCKROACHES EVERYWHERE. The worst part is that the majority with small so my husband and I had to empty out every single bag we had just to make sure that none got in. It was disgusting and left us feeling very uneasy. I'm staying here right now and this place is an absolute mess. There were specs of poop on the walls around the toilet, the walls are covered head to toe in stains, there are, what look to be, bullet holes, there are many other holes in the walls, the sink didn't drain, the floor wasn't vacuumed, and there were toenails on it, and we found a Mountain Dew can turned into a pipe for weed on the floor under the bed. Oh yeah, and the blinds in the bathroom are all covered in black mold, there's also more black mold around the edges of the windows in the main sleeping area. This is insane. The manager refuses to talk to us, citing that she is too busy cleaning rooms because they're trying to check people in for the weekend. It's not our fault your rooms aren't ready. when a customer asks for the manager, the manager needs to show up. They obviously avoid these situations regularly. No, just No. Went into room and lifted lid on toilet to find a load of trash in there. Blue and red plastic tubes and some waterlogged cloth. No idea if this was drug paraphernalia or what. The little sign on the wall read "sensitive plumbing, please do not put anything down the toilet apart from paper (Or we will fine you)". Had to run to a wedding rehearsal so dropped key back at reception saying room not clean please fix for when we come back. Got back to hotel and was told housekeeping manager had taken care of problem. Not a word of apology. OK... Later that evening had some trash to dispose of. Opened cupboard to find trash can full of someone else's trash. Seriously! How clean is the rest of the room if they totally failed on these two things. And then of course there is our friends who were on the same trip and had to change room because their sheets were dirty and torn and there was no knob on the cold water faucet in the bathroom. Poor Custoner Service. Quasi Renovated Room lacked the following: 1) closet or garment rack. Asked 3x and was ignored. 2) Filthy floors. Took off my shoes and walked around the room. I took my socks off at the end of night and they were black. 3) Had to ask for towels first night. 4) next morn8ng went to take a shower and no liquid shower soap! 5) Window grommets, unlined curtains did not meet Commercual Fire Codes, curtains hardware was not commercial quality, insrlralled with simple L brackets , New countertop was 2 pieces butted together at center of sink.6) Bathroom door had exterior lock door hardware. 6) Exterior door put of alignment, we had to lift door up to lock it each night. 8) No blow dryer or iron and ironing board 9) The NQI recharged fir 3 day stat and added insult to injury by charging an additional $100 for incidentals which were none existent. It was a ploy to gain interest to their benefit. 10) No cleaning service for entire stay! read more

Idk i didn't get great customer service from the guy in the afternoon but i realized from this morning maybe it's just the time and all, the guy seemed grumpy because the lady in the morning seemed super nice so not so great customer service when i checked in but super great service checking out. She was super cool about the breakfast and all too. I really felt the guy when i checked in didn't want us there but the woman on the way out seemed so nice that it really shows that it's the impression a customer gets on the way out that proves a lot. Eh but them beds tho I put my own blanket underneath me so don't trip staff people, them beds something about them is special because I felt like I was on viagra. I loved that bounce and the headboard is perfect. I don't have one of those at home so it was really nice. I had the best sex I've had in a long time here. The breakfast was pretty basic bear claws, fruit , granola bars, not anything to big but the positive was they didn't take it away early. There's a lot of great areas for walking around here. The shower was outta soap so not so positive there and the tv remote needed batteries so that wasn't so positive either. Plenty of parking so that's cool, plenty of trees so that's cool. Theres definitely a lot of crowd too, I love birds.. okay actually i really liked this place again the bed was great. It didn't make any noises and was very clean. read more

This was the worst and most terrible experience I've ever had at a place. The cabin was so dirty and run down. I didn't even want to sit on the couch without putting down a blanket first. The room had a weird smell which I figured out later was from the vomit in the couch. When we notified the staff they took forever to come look and then we're upset we even complained!! We were in the second cabin on left. Basically the furniture was worse than something you'd find on the street besides the vomit the couch was broken. The fireplace didn't work and you wouldn't want to touch anything in the kitchen. We ended up leaving and booking an Airbnb. Thank goodness we were able to find something with no notice. The staff was upset that we called Hotels.com and told them we wanted our money back. The whole experience almost ruined the weekend. Sunday, December 18, 2022, we arrived to the Hotel. This will be ONE HUGE NEGATIVE REVIEW ! Made reservations for the busy weekend for the, " Victorian Christmas." Two of us reserved two rooms. We arrived early and asked if we could check in early, the lady at the desk said no, the rooms were not cleaned yet - which of coarse we understood. We left our vehicle and took off on foot. We returned back to the hotel appro 9 pm, after calling asking if this was ok, checking in later, no problem. Two separate rooms, friends room, no issues, had been, " remodeled." My room, room 512, I entered it looked around and could not believe what was seen. TV was ON, BUT NO RECEPTION - see pic Chair was facing the wall. The bed, look like someone body had been on it, the pillow looked like someone had used it, and a few crumbs up by the pillow. The AC, Heater unit, was running but cool air coming out, I attempted to move the temp dial on the left to heat, but the button just kept rotating, I rotated it, and heat finally came out. The telephone - see pic - disgusting ! Burn - stain mark on table. Plugs - looks like water damage around plug Blinds - the wand that opened and closed - broken Piece of hair on side table next to bed where broken clock radio was sitting. Appeared to be ashes next to broken clock radio. Paleo bar wrapper in the garbage can, maybe the crumbs in the bed ?? Chair - stains Pros - Water Pressure !! I ran into the gentleman that I received the keys from as I left my room to go to friends room, I told him about my room, he said he could move me, but I did not know what my new room looked like - I did not move. Earlier we were told - they were sold out. I took pictures and decided to speak to the manager in the am. Check out - went to office - Abby attempted to help me out, I requested to speak to the manager, gave me the number - no answer. As we were chatting - manager drove in - Hamid - manager, showed him the pictures, and told him I would pay $40 for this sooooo called room that had a price of appro $140.00. - I compromised - was charged $50 plus tax. Hamid looked very surprised that the room was even open for customers, and appeared to be shocked over the pictures. He told Abby to block room #512 It appears to be a very nice looking property - the outside, Hamid claims that he is remodeling ......so....I appreciated that he heard me and made some changes ! This business appears to be making some up grade to their rooms, but I would for sure check your room ! I was so disappointed this time. I usually book the chalet with Northern Queen's Inn and I have never been disappointed. I was always happy until the recent stay on 8/15. When I checked in, the kitchen was not cleaned at all. There were food on the stove and on the floor. The floor was really greasy. I felt they could have done a better job with cleanliness. The next thing that turned me off was the smelly blanket in the closet which lead me to believe that our sheets were not changed from before. That's just gross so I called for some clean sheets and blankets! Then to top it off, the bathroom was cleaned either. There were pee stain on the floor. I just felt that especially with this current situation, they should have done a better job cleaning and sanitizing. read more

I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!!! Once my 2 year old daughter and I were able to track down the front desk worker to get into the office to check in it smelled like pot really bad. The First cabin he put me in was 309 and it was extremely filthy. There were no sheets blankets on the bed there was garbage everywhere there was used toilet paper there was crap all in the toilet and some on the toilet seat the toilet paper had been used as well and there were no towels and multiple other things. I went down to request a new room and the 2nd one (314) had a towel in the lock part of front door to allow access without key card. There was crystal meth on the coffee table. My 2 year could have gotten to the drugs if I hadn't been holding her hand due to the first room. I went down to the front office and I had to find the worker again and request a third room and that he personally come with me to make sure the room is acceptable. He said he wanted to see the second room first and I said definitely and once he saw everything and notice that I was taking pictures he told me if I was going to leave a review with the pictures of everything that he would not help me get a normal room and I could get off of the property. He finally got me to a room that was kinda okay (not worth the price) but none of the windows locked correctly and the slider wouldn't either but my daughter and I were so exhausted from traveling and the whole ordeal of finding a semi safe room for us to sleep in we just took it. THIS WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD AT A HOTEL. MOTEL 6 IS WAY NICER/CLEANER. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!!!! read more

What a dump. The room was filthy and stunk to high heaven. The TV did not work. Stains all over the carpet. Some rather unsavory characters gave the grounds an air of Danger. Checked in on a Saturday for two nights, everything was great until the second night, when at 1:00 am I had to call the cops because there was a girl high on something walking around our cabin, yelling and screaming at no one. She never was found. Then the next morning, the lady at the front desk was the rudest person I've met in a long time. Rude about the breakfast, rude about me wanting to stay another night. Then proceeded to give me new card keys that didn't work. She couldn't just keep my deposit from the first two nights. Instead she had to take another $100 out of my account then told me I wouldn't get my first deposit back for 3 to five business days. The stay was great until 1:00am Monday morning then the rest of the day has been a horrible experience. The stuck up bitch lady needs to be replaced asap, or they are going to lose business for sure. Joined friends who have stayed here previously because of a musical performance in town. Unfortunately, didn't read the reviews before arrival and won't stay here again. As others have noted, the grounds are lovely with trees, tinkling stream, lovely little waterfall and even a train on Saturdays. Then you open the door to your room and get confronted with circa 1960 (not in a vintage way!) that was reminiscent of an aging Motel 6. The room smelled of bleach, walls had torn wallpaper, missing electrical fixtures, unpatched holes in wall, and the pocket door was missing hardware that made it difficult to pull closed. On the plus side, the AC worked well, and toiletries were provided. If you are visiting in the area, your money would be better spent staying elsewhere unless you don't mind a step above camping. read more

What a tragedy. The grounds and property are beautiful but the staff, though they try their best, are lacking. Our check in was delayed by two hours because the maids could not keep up with the work. When we were allowed to check in, our room was actually not clean. After it was cleaned we noticed several disgusting stains on one of the chairs, the toilet would not stop filling with water (I had to fix it myself after every flush), the bathroom walls were, in some places, covered with mildew, tv reception was terrible, the pool and restaurant were both closed and, there were no curtains. The lack of curtains meant that the outside nightlight and the morning light shone right through the blinds and made it difficult for us to sleep. Other than that, everything was fine. The grounds are beautiful, the free breakfast was adequate, it was pet friendly, it was very quiet during the night (in the morning the maids showed up in some ridiculously loud car and made a point of disturbing the peace by gunning the engine). The price was not worth what we received. $165.00 for all of the above mentioned problems is not acceptable. The only thing that saved this experience was the secluded location and beautiful scenery of the property. After reading other reviews, it seems these problems have been going on for quite awhile so I would recommend that you look elsewhere for accommodations, as will I next time. read more

They should just replace all the chairs because they are disgusting. Even the light switches were dirty. All the tile in the bathroom was broken and needs to be replaced.
