This Northgate location has been a good local Mexican market to shop for everyday groceries and specialty items. It has a local feel with a clean store and efficient checkout stations. The prices are fair and competitive with other supermarkets. There are always sales and discounts to help you save money. I like making my own salsa and hot sauces, and there is a huge selection of fresh and dried chilies and peppers. The produce section is also well-stocked, and the fresh corn and flour tortillas are another plus. There isn't a food court here, but the ready-prepared foods and carniceria (meats) counter has a lot to offer. I sometimes get the warm tamales, hot chicken, or some of the marinated meats. The freshly baked goods offer plenty of choices. I'll also grab an ice-cold agua fresca when I swing by the ready-made food area to enjoy on the way home. The staff has been kind for the most part, and it does get pretty busy on the weekend and especially during seasonal times. Today, while shopping at the Northgate Market on Lincoln St. and Holder, in Buena Park I saw a small cockroach crawling in Aisle 5. I took photos and a video because I was surprised to see it in an area where food products are displayed. I immediately informed two employees and asked for assistance. They told me they were going to notify the manager, but they never came back or followed up with me. I was disappointed by the lack of response. I hope management takes this seriously by inspecting the store and strengthening its pest control and sanitation measures. I forgot to take photos of this location, but this is really my go to. The store is vastly large located in the tip of Buena Park bordering Cypress. This is close enough where I could get stuff but not have to drive all the way to Costa Mesa to get my Mexican food. The prices are not really reasonable but if you don't know how to make a good marinated Carne Asada that this is the place to go. 1499 per pound for flap meat, which is quite crazy expensive. Service is pretty seamless, but they are not really willing to help other than unless you ask them. They have great pre-packaged salsa beans and rice for your quick purchase and the place is always full. Parking is decent and easy. read more

I go to this Northgate for bread, meats & tortillas. I love the pan dulce & tamales here as well. The only downside about this location is that the staff are not friendly. Especially for myself who is not Hispanic, it does not feel welcoming at all. The meat department is also so busy and the wait is long. I am an instacart shopper, who often shops at this location. Today I was looking down at my phone to find which item I was looking for next, when I walked into a HANGING METAL OUTLET BOX. I am 5ft 10in, and hit the top of my head VERY hard on this metal box. The manager took 7 full minutes to come to assist me despite asking 4 different employees to get a manager. The manager then told me that it's COMPLETELY NORMAL to have this METAL OUTLET BOX hanging from the CEILING. This location is disgustingly unprofessional and unethical. I went back to this NorthGate Market to get some items for a fish Friday dinner and this time my experience was absolutely amazing and beautiful. The entire team was so respectful. The service at the fish deli was so nice and respectful! The staff I came across while browsing were doing such a good job with stocking and keeping the store clean and safe. Located in a shopping center. There was plenty of parking since it is in a shopping center. Walking in, I noticed the store was clean but small. There were pastries close to the first cash registers for sale. People were doing their thing in the bakery area, from where I can see. I came for a gift card and was able to buy one at one of their express lanes. Took about 5 minutes. Staff was nice and friendly. Was able to get what I needed. I'm sad that there is no Vallarta Market nearby, but at the same time, I am very happy to have discovered Northgate market. I didn't realize they now have this full-size grocery store as back in the day, I thought Northgate Market was just a small corner market in Hawaiian Gardens. As I mentioned in my review of Superior Grocers located down the street on Knott avenue, I was in the market for authentic and exotic meats for our taco spread for Super Bowl. Though they did not have what I was looking for at the Butcher Counter, they did offer the many cuts of beef sections I was looking for in the refrigerated meat section that are pre packed. I found my Tripas, and beef cheeks, so I was able to complete my menu and they had other beef and pork parts that I was not even sure of what they were. I think I found my new go to Mexican Grocery store. Hopefully in the future, I can refer to the butcher how to find ingredients for other Mexican inspired exotic tacos. For instance Cabeza. When I don't wanna buy the pre-wrapped ribeye that's on the shelf and it's already starting to turn gray and I go in and I ask for a pound of bone and ribeye give me a pound of bone and ribeye don't give me 3 pounds of boneless after a bunch of negotiating. So I went on Saturday 8/24 around 6pm. I went to pick up some ceviche, cake and Mexican Coke to take to my mom for her bday. Food was great, it was pretty clean and busy nothing out of the usual for this place. Unfortunately, the issue came with one particular worker in the area where you can order their chicken family meals. Right next to it, is the bakery, I stood there for about 10 mins and nobody came out. So I actually got in that good order line and waited patiently to get to a worker and asked if they could call someone over to the bakery or if one of them could help (3 of them). This lady yelled at me and said we don't work there wrong line. Disappointing Experience - Felt Cheated Where do I begin? After my recent visit to this store, I'm unfortunately not surprised by the poor reviews here on Yelp. One thing I absolutely cannot tolerate from any business is being cheated out of what I paid for. On Sunday, 9/21/25, I went to the location on Lincoln Ave to purchase 4 lbs of beef tripe. What I received, however, was 3 lbs of actual tripe and nearly 1 lb of what was essentially just balls of fat. The tripe was already cut, which I initially thought would be more convenient but that turned out to be a mistake. I never imagined that a store would deliberately pad an order with a full pound of inedible fat. (pic only shows a portion of what they added to my order). This is completely unacceptable. I will not be returning to this market, and I strongly caution others, especially in the Latino community to be aware of these pricing and product practices. High prices, poor service, and misleading products from the meat department make this a place I simply cannot recommend. I will also make a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Usually at stores, someone can run their card on the pad before the cashier is done and it just waits for the cashier to indicate the transactions done and charges the card. It helps fasten up the process. My apologies if this store does not do the same. It finished the transaction before she finished ringing up my items. Her face showed her anger and frustration towards me. It made her look like an ugly person. She looked at me and said "I wasn't done." (In Spanish of course). She then rolled her eyes and the annoyed body language while she was waiting for the computer to get ready again was very noticeable that it was embarrassing. It seems like she has no patience for people, which would mean she is in the wrong line of work. You may want to send her to some customer service training. I usually tell my employees to treat our valued customers like how you would want someone to treat your mom or child while they are out. By the looks of other reviews, it seems like management has other priorities other than employee customer service. I've been to this market a couple times to get meat and vegetables as it close to where I live. Every single time that I go to the meat section, the employees are rude and have no customer service at all. I went this early afternoon and the guy who assisted me named Angelo. I don't know if he is new or just not using his brain, but he doesn't not know a thing about what he's doing. He puts the meat on the scale after scooping it and approaches another employee asking what to do. Then I asked for another meat which is priced at $5.99/lb. He puts it on the scale and input a code that is priced $6.99. I called his attention and told him that he charged me the wrong price. He's like a deer caught in headlights! I've noticed the outside of these grocery markets aren't as clean as a Ralph's or Vons but don't let that stop you from coming in. Fresh produce and meat. There is a huge selection of prepared foods. I love the chicken salad with tostadas and jalapeño slices. Go early because it sells out quickly. The chiles rellenos and ribs in green sauce with nopales/cactus are my other go to's. read more

However every time I go through the express line, which is limited to 10 items or less, there is always one inconsiderate customer in front that will not respect this rule. Haven't been to a Northgate Market in years and I was pleasantly surprised from how different it is now. It's basically a Latino Whole Foods. It's so impressive with all the different and delicious sections. You have the: -agua fresca station. You can sample and mix different flavors together. But you don't get a straw til you pay for it. -cake and bread station. The cakes and bread look so good and pretty, perfect place to come to when you need a birthday cake. -soup station saw about 4 different types -then you have the hot food from rice, beans, Chile rellano to mole and everything in between. Plus they have a person going around checking the temperature of the food to ensure it's safe. Then obviously you have your deli/butcher counter too. The thing I found really annoying was the guy on the speaker he was way to loud. Couldn't find the source but he was obnoxious loud. Haven't done any other shopping here but hopefully it's just as good. Did notice long lines at the check out lanes and not enough cashiers. Definitely busy store, even in this time of pandemic. I came here specifically for fresh epazote to make a chili verde sauce, since I have never seen it in "regular " grocery stores. I also grabbed several fresh chilies also for the dish: Anaheim and Serrano . There were two types of tomatillo: (the ones that look like green tomatoes with a husk ) - the smilpero ones are good for making salsa for chips , and the large ones for cooking. If you like the smell of raw meat, fresh bread, lard, produce, fresh juice then you will be at home here. And most importantly, if you like cheap Mexican sweet breads and rolls then your tummy will sing a happy song. Located off Knott and Lincoln ave in the city of Anaheim, in a little strip mall. Plenty of parking. But there are people who block the drive ways, and dont look where they are going. Park as far away as you can. So, you need a number for everything behind the case. You need a number for any type of meat. Don't worry there will be at least 10 people ahead of you. They call the numbers out in Spanish, which is like preschool math. Shame on you, if you don't know them. Average wait time will be 5 minutes to 20 minutes just for meat. The meats are super duper cheap. I stick to the carne asada, pollo asada, molida, chicken legs/thighs and the pastor asada taco meat. They have some crazy meats here, that I stay far away from, like chicken feet, organ meat, ect. Then for the premade stuff, guess what? You need a seperate number for that. Average wait time is 5 to 15 minutes. This is where the fried chicken, grilled chicken, carnitas, and other things are kept. Along with the creams, salsas, quacamole, fresh cheese. The $8.99 a pound carnitas are great according to the hubsters. What not is great, is the other pork mix I brought home once. I was in the dog house that night, for bringing home the wrong one. The produce department here is super duper cheap. Much cheaper than your standard markets. Although, in my home it is a battle to get someone to eat veggies, I still try to disguise them into our meals. On average, almost everything The check out lines are terrible. Expect long lines. Average wait to get out will be about 10 minutes. Seriously, I can pick up ingredients to prepare a home cooked meal. Or if I am lazy I can buy a pound of Carnitas already cooked, premade spanish rice and have a easy peasy dinner. Love going here for picking up meat and anything needed for a meat party. They have ladies hand making tortillas which look amazing. I went on a weekend the marinated chicken was on sale and it was so cheap!! I was able to grill pounds of chicken and carne asada. The marinade was perfectly seasoned and perfect for grilling. If I am in the area I would go here - especially for the chicken. I have a friend that always get the taco meat and always has leftovers from parties. Only thing that confused me was getting a number and waiting for a man in the meat area to call out your number.
