I'm not sure why the bad reviews. Yes the actual grocery store is tiny. Reminds me of going to Family Mart, Lawson or 7-11 in Japan. They have the necessities and a good selection of sushi and ready made foods. If you go around 6-6:30 all their fresh made items are marked half off. Be prepared the older Japanese ladies will run your ass over for those nigiri's. Everything is exceptionally clean and organized. The food court was packed and had a good selection of foods. Of course the famous Tendon Tempura Carlos Jr is there. A lot of people have negative reviews but give it a few tries... everything is still new and they are trying to get things together. I'm glad they opened this Mitsuwa. It's right next door to my favorite other stores, Trader Joe's and Costco! read more

I've been to Mitsuwa marketplace before, but this is my first time to this location. It looks more on the brand new side. Everything was super clean. Well placed very good lighting really friendly service. If you've been to Mitsuwa before, they're all pretty much laid out the same great food lots of Japanese trinkets. There's a grocery store that has food and snacks in the back. The grocery store has bentos and a lot of fish, sashimi pre-sliced and cool drinks. The food court in the front is why we came here. We tried pretty much everything they had Ramen and onigiri also gyoza. They have so much food to choose from. Everything was freshly made. Super tasty and well prepared. Friendly service and the food comes out fast. They also have a store that sells the famous Royce chocolates. Give this place a try and happy eating... read more

I remember when I heard this Mitsuwa was opening and I couldn't wait. There were long lines during their grand opening week but I still managed to go. The food court was so crowded and difficult to order as there were long waits for food. I was just so happy that there was a food court. After the excitement passed I noticed it was a bit small then I went to pick up some groceries and seen how small the grocery side was that I couldn't believe it. There are barely any aisles for any sort of groceries and the prices are high. Even the sale items I feel are higher than I can get at other Japanese markets. This should have been at least double the size or they should have just made it all a food court or simple grocery store. I will still try to support it but it's tough to get groceries as their prices are much higher. As the newness has worn down, it's much easier to get in and out to pick up some things. Relatively new marketplace that opened up in the area. The place is very clean, brightly lit, with a cozy seating area. I like that they have a variety of vegetables, meats and other frozen products that you can cook, and I love the great variety of convenient hot and cold items that you can get to go. This Mitsuwa is not overly crowded and has ample parking. The size reminds me of Irvine's location, but much nicer and new (used to be an Office Depot I believe and opened last year). Specifically came for the food court and ate ramen at Santouka around 5pm on a Saturday - no lines. You can also find a K. Minamoto and Royce Chocolate at the entrance too. The marketplace shelves can seem a bit bare and unorganized with some display lights off (perhaps to save energy?). However, there is still a variety/selection and grocery essentials. There was only 1 employee working a cashier and the self checkout lanes were closed off. read more

It was my first time visiting this location, and I usually go to the one in Costa Mesa. This one felt less crowded, which I appreciated, but it also had fewer food options. I ordered the karaage with curry. The food came out hot and fresh, which was a plus. The curry itself was pleasant, leaning a bit on the sweeter side. This location of the chain of Japanese markets is on the smaller side, similar to the Irvine location. The selection is obviously more limited than the huge stores in Costa Mesa or Torrance, so it's unfair to compare it to those, but I still found the items I usually purchase on my Mitsuwa outings (chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, mochi ice cream, teriyaki sauce, curry, etc.). It's a great place to buy Japanese snacks! The woman at checkout was very friendly and personable. Finally a mitsuwa closer to me! Although this store is much smaller than the one I usually frequent in Costa Mesa, they still offer the same things I usually get so it's definitely more convenient for me. It's also less traffic going this way rather than towards Costa Mesa. This Mitsuwa also has a decently sized food court with one of my favorite ramen shops (Santouka) as well as a few other food shops including a bakery and soon to open Royce confections shop (yay!) This store also has more sale items and items on special. I've noticed a lot of special sales every time I've come in. Parking is sometimes difficult during busy hours as they do share a parking lot with a huge 24 hour fitness. read more

Even though this may be my first time reviewing a Mitsuwa, there shouldn't be any doubt that they're one of my favorite markets. At the very least, it has been my favorite chain of Japanese markets, but it stinks how they have just one location in the Bay Area! In fact, across my limited number of trips to SoCal, I've already visited more locations down here than back at home and I have to say - this location may be the newest, but it's also my least favorite one I've been to. Like pretty much every other Mitsuwa I've been to, this location has a cute little food court with a half dozen or so eateries offering a variety of food options - from ramen, udon, and curry rice plates to onigiri, matcha, and Japanese sweets. As for the market, it has all of the usual offerings you would expect - a solid selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, frozen foods, pantry staples, alcohol, snacks, and sections of prepared foods and sushi to choose from. What's more, as a whole, everything here felt so new and clean (which makes sense in hindsight, as it apparently opened only back in November). With all of that having been said, though, it's weird to me how this place still felt a bit...lacking. While you can find a decent mix of things to eat at their food court, it's pretty much limited to three eateries, so don't be surprised to see lines when it's busy. Also, despite how new it is, the market feels smaller than other Mitsuwas I've been to. That's not inherently bad, but pickings felt relatively slim for certain meats and produce we were looking for, as well as their bento boxes and sushi. Granted, it probably didn't help that we were here on a Sunday and the place was packed with customers, but it's not like we stopped in towards the end of the day either. All in all, while I definitely think there are plenty of positives about this location, I'd be lying if I said I was as impressed with this one as I was by their location in Costa Mesa. It's definitely nice how new it is and I would never be opposed to going to any Mitsuwa, but if I lived out this way, it'd be tough not to know whether I'll be able to get everything I need here or if I'll also need to stop off somewhere else. The food court is not good - but there is hope for it. I suggest bringing some new food vendors in. 1 star - Santouka Ramen is definitely not good. The ramen had a lot of bamboo shoots and the soup smelled like fart. Plus they want to charge $1 for extra scallions. Horrible customer service. How much could scallions be you have to charge??? Nice new Mitsuwa marketplace where you can eat prepared food from the food court, buy packaged prepared food (bentos and sushi), or do grocery shopping for Japanese products. I had a sushi assortment and some lotus root appetizer and my nephew had the pork katsu bento. Both were very good and of course less pricey than a sit down restaurant. I've found it to be a good alternative to fast food when you're just in the mood for something familiar for a reasonable price. After 6pm or so, prepared items (in the grocery section, not the made to order food court) gets discounted by about 50% - good if you're wanting something like the expensive tuna belly nigiri. read more

Mitsuwa Marketplace officially opened in Cypress in early November 2025. I usually visit the one in Costa Mesa, but this location also offers a variety of interesting and unique foods and merchandise, along with a nice food court that serves reasonably priced sushi. The food court and dining area are immediately on the right. The most popular spot is Santouka Ramen, while on the left you'll find gift shops like Royce, Hattendo, and Yamari Matcha. The market itself is quite small. When I visited on a weekday evening, the shelves were already half empty with no restocking. Most meat packs are small, prices are average, and some items are expensive. Parking can be very difficult. read more

Finally made a visit to Mitsuwa Market! I waited for the hype to die down. Parking. I visited on a weekday around 10am. Parking was scarce in the front lot but plenty on the side. I noticed several that did find spots in the front walk over to 24 hr fitness instead. On the side of 24 hr fitness, there is plenty of parking. I can't imagine trying Tomlinson a spot during lunch or dinner hours (which seems to be what this place is marketed towards, prepared food). They really need to work with the landlord to restrict parking for for the market. There are a few 20 minute only spots, but if you have to wait for your Food Court order, that may not be enough time. This is a very scaled down Mitsuwa, if you are familiar with their ither stores. Food Court has only three vendors with a fourth coming soon. At 10am only two of the three were open. Katsu/Curry vendor, Rice Ball vendor, and a Ramen vendor. The Ramen vendor hadn't opened yet. Reviewing the Katsu/Curry vendor (not good!) on their Yelp Business. Food Court has lots of tables but this was not the lunch rush, not sure how packed it may get. The market is very small (reminds me of an upscale 7-11). Some fresh produce, some snacks but mostly prepared food. Lots of hot and ready to eat Bento Boxes and Rice Balls. Good selection of Sashimi and Sushi. I picked up.some Ahi Sashimi, very fresh and excellent quality! They also.had some Mochi in their deli Case along with a confectionery vendor just outside the market area. I picked up from both and the Mochi was very good! The vendor has a very nice selection of flavors! Definitely plan to return. I plan to piick up Bento Boxes from the market side (the Torrance store has great ones) to try on my next visit. read more

I am generally a huge fan of Mitsuwa locations, and I was really looking forward to visiting this new location in Cypress. Mitsuwa is a really great store to find Japanese food and ingredients. A hidden gem is their food court and, in this location, they have Santouka Ramen, rice/curry bowls, and musubi stores. Compared to other Mitsuwa locations (eg: Torrance, Costa Mesa), this is one of the smaller locations that you will find. I came here to get simple ingredients to cook hot pot at home. I was able to find some limited, expensive wagyu selections, some tofu, and some vegan broths; however, their selection of meat broths, vegetables, and meats were very lacking. I couldn't get mushrooms, meat broths, greens. Sauce/meat options were limited. I only was able to find a quarter of what I needed for dinner, and I had to go to H-Mart to get the rest. I feel that the store was clean; however, the stock is very limited and, for me to return regularly, I need to know that I can rely on them to have what I need for basic Japanese foods. read more

The store is nice but the options are limited when it comes to groceries. The food court is almost the same size as the grocery store. There's plenty of seating and different spots to hang out, which makes it a great place to relax and enjoy a matcha or a meal. I do agree with a lot of other reviews, I wish the store was bigger with more variety. I picked up a few grocery items and wanted something quick to eat so I picked up a couple onigiri from the store. I also checked out the omusubi shop inside the food court but their onigiri looked a bit rice heavy for my preference. Price wise, they're pretty similar about $2.50 in store vs. $2.70 at the shop. I always enjoy shopping at Mitsuwa and was a little disappointed that this location was so small, actual market and the food court. Like all other stores, it is very clean and staff is pretty helpful. The selections at this location was pretty minimal but you can find your most popular items/brands in stock. How do you properly rate a grocery store. You can't really base on service since most of the things you do or need are self serve. I guess what I like about this Mitsua Marketplace in Cypress is that it's much closer to my house than going to Torrance or Costa Mesa. I do like that they offer a lot of cooked or prepared foods. There's a lot of prepaid sushi options, but there's also a very good selection of raw fish ready to be sliced for sashimi. The value of these items are great. i.e. a decent size salmon filet for sashimi around 7.00 which is how much you'd pay at a restaurant and get only two pieces. Ootoro for $30.00 that can yield several slices as opposed to maybe two slices at a Japanese sushi restaurant. Overall, the grocery store of this Mitsua Marketplace will be a regular stop when I'm feeling lazy to prepare dinner. The marketplace also has a food court with right now, three food vendors, Omusubi Gonbei, Tokyo Shokudo and Hokkaido Ramen Santouka. They also have specialty items like Royce Chocolates, coffee, sweet Buns and they also sell Baked cheesecake tart ice cream. read more

This location has a smaller food court compared to the one on Paularino, but it does give you the option of having access boiled hot water and a microwave. They have a variety of Japanese foods, treats, beverages, and alcoholic beverages. I just love Mitsuwa stores in general. We unfortunately didn't get in until just about closing time for the Food Court. It would've been sooner had I not needed to clean up my youngest daughter who got carsick the moment we parked the car... we drove out from Vegas. But this location was just five minutes away from the hotel we were going to spend the night in. Hopefully if we come back to this area, we will be able to get here sooner and have a better experience and opportunity to order from a larger selection of restaurants in the Food Court that will be open. read more

This Mitsuwa Marketplace opened this past November. I wished this market was here when I used to live in Cypress many years ago. I know that many other fellow Yelp members complain that this location is rather small but honestly, if they want to see a small Mitsuwa Market, they should visit the one in San Gabriel. That one is very small and has no food court. Anyways, my husband and I decided to visit this Mitsuwa Marketplace two Saturdays ago since we were out in Orange County. We wanted to pick up some groceries before heading back home to the San Gabriel Valley since this was kind of on the way home. In general, Mitsuwa typically seems to be more expensive than Tokyo Central (the Japanese market I frequent most often back home), often times $1-4 more for items. But that doesn't really bother me, as Mitsuwa sometimes will have different or more selection than Tokyo Central for certain items as well. I like to shop at both markets equally. We ended up purchasing a few items. After we finished paying for those groceries, we walked over to the food court to see what eateries and vendors are available. We ended up getting some onigiri at Omusubi Gonbei and decided to enjoy our rice balls here since there is such a large space of seating. Even though this market is smaller than some of their other locations, I would frequent this location if I still lived out here in Cypress. read more

I heard from friend who resides in Cypress that this market had its grand opening and includes a Japanese food court. I arrived on a Sunday for lunch and the parking lot was at capacity. Currently there's three options to dine at with an additional space open for a Tennant. There's also several open market shops that offer hot and cold beverages, pastries, gifts and mochi. The market is on the smaller side compared to sister markets but this location is closer to home which is convenient. The market offers ready to eat foods like nigiri, sashimi, karrage, sake, and your other Japanese deli items. Many items were sold out due to the heavy volume of customers. I was so excited when this place was opening up. For some reason, I imagined it to be much larger maybe because Costa Mesa has spoiled my idea of what it should look like. There's a good variety of produce, prepared foods, frozen, sauces, and drinks inside the store but definitely more of a boutique supermarket feel. There was a few dozen of the chicken cutlets and pricey baked sweet potatoes. - Tofu and veggies were much higher than Hmart or 99 Ranch; even comparing the House Foods brand 1 for 1 - Half a aisle for condiments - End cap of makeup - Half a aisle for bagged snacks Yeah! - The store opening specials were on ramen bowls and snacks; average 50% off. - Basic baby carrots were $1.49 which is cheaper than Vons - Insane amount of ramen bowls, udon bowls, etc - Robust import Japanese beer selection! - Fascinated with the expensive baked yams which were cold. $10 for 2 is wild. Are they good? Do you eat it cold? Drop in my DMs! All in all a bit bummed on size and selection. Would live to come back and try the food court options but will pass on the supermarket fare. I was wondering why the rating was so low for this place; but when I sat down in the dining area- there were a lot of flies just lingering around all the tables closest to the kitchen. Ah- the reviews are true... I ordered curry from the restaurant there. It was okay, but definitely on the lower end in terms of quality and taste. Adding spice is an additional dollar, which I unfortunately found out was just additional spicy chili flakes in top (not anything mixed into the curry itself) - which was one dimensional, a tad too sweet, and the beef was too salty. The portions were really good though. I tried the chicken katsu as well- which ended up being better than the sautéed beef. Service was prompt and friendly. The grocery store was okay, but small selection and the prices were slightly more expensive than some other Japanese grocery stores. The sweets selection wasn't as extensive, but I was impressed with the selection of hair care and makeup. They do have more mayonnaise options than your average Asian grocery store. I was so glad to see a recently opened Mitsuwa in the same parking lot when charging our car last Sunday. We came in to grab some quick dinner and bought some snacks. They have a pretty good-sized and clean dining area with a microwave. So convenient! While we're deciding whether to order from one of the 3 restaurants in the food court or buyready to eat items from the supermarket, we saw one of the staff marking down sushi items. There're still a lot of options available. Two of us ended up getting 3 items from Mitsuwa to share, and the other person ordered from one of the restaurants. The discounted otoro sushi and hot eel bowl were definitely a great deal! The taste was not bad, just as you'd expect from a Japanese grocery store. Ugh where do I start with this Mitsuwa review? I am very disappointed by the lack of cleanliness in and around the store. I parked and stepped outside of my car door right into what appeared as a pile of vomit. As if that's not disgusting enough, there was debris and trash strewn about everywhere in the car park in general. Upon approaching the front entrance, I encountered two overflowing trash cans which I assume as one of the culprits. The cafeteria area was full of garbage flies. I couldn't fathom eating in such an environment. Constantly having to flap my hands around to keep them out of my food. They are highly unsanitary to have landing in any surfaces but especially on food items. It transmits all sorts of communicable diseases. You just never know where they landed before your food and drinks. Rotting dumpster trash, dog and bird droppings , just to give you an idea. I was also grossed out by the indication that the building has ongoing rodent control issues. There are rodent control boxes containing rodenticides placed outside of the building entrances. Although I'm glad to know that the building management and Mitsuwa store are aware of it and dealing with it. However it gives me very little peace of mind about the quality control issues pertaining to food safety. The store itself is a very small scale version of Mitsuwa we are all accustomed to in Costa Mesa or Torrance. It's incomparable. They should bill themselves as Mitsuwa Express or something. Almost like a convenience store or bodega type thing due to the limited offerings. They do have good amount of grab and go meal options but nothing to write home about. Drink selection was limited and disappointing. No milk tea like Kocha Kaden or Mitsuya Ciders. Just very basic green tea or canned milk teas for example. The sliced meat prices were pretty decent. And I liked that they have Yamari green tea shop. Would I return again? Probably not as the selections of just about everything was very limited and the cleanliness/ infestation of rats and insects really bothered me. read more

Excited to try this location but it was just ok. Maybe it will be better later. The market is smaller than the food court and most food were sold out. The food court was not bad but there were A LOT of flies, maybe 5-10 flies at each table. They have J Sweets and Yamari when you first walk in, then look to the right you have Santouka, Tokyo Shokudo, and Omusubi Gonbei. I had combo A at Santouka. It was delicious! I bought a variety of musubi from Omusubi Gonbei to take home. They were really good price for the size but mostly rice. The flavors were all good though. My favorite was takana (pickled mustard greens). I also tried the matcha latte at Yamari. It was really good matcha but the cup was so tiny. Overall, I hope they improve on the flies situation. I would come back for the food court. The market was kind of sad but that can be improved too. read more

Mitsuwa Marketplace officially opened in Cypress in early November 2025, finally a Japanese supermarket close to me! I used to drive all the way to Costa Mesa or Torrance, so having a new one nearby was too tempting not to check out. This location is definitely in a retail war zone, right next to Trader Joe's, with Costco just a few steps away. Compared to those giants, this Mitsuwa is definitely a mini version. It's also right beside 24 Hour Fitness, and the parking lot in front is shared with the gym. Parking experience wasn't great because I only got a spot by luck when I turned in from the Tesla chargers on the side. Once we walked in, the food court and dining area are immediately on the right. Of course, the most popular spot is Santouka Ramen, and on the left you'll find gift shops like ROYCE, Hattendo, and Yamari Matcha. Since I've already tried Santouka before, I went for Tokyo Shokudo, the tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) place next door this time. The only complaint was the food samples on display look way bigger than what we actually got but at least it was tasty enough to forgive that. One thing everyone mentioned online regarding the flies in the food court -- unfortunately it was true. They were buzzing around the tables and it got pretty annoying. As for the market itself, it's tiny and the shelves were already half empty with no restock in sight around 2pm during a middle of the weekday. Meat packs are mostly small and the price range is average. Overall, the variety and "fun to browse" factor are nowhere near H Mart or Costco in my opinion but definitely good enough for a quick grocery shopping. Would I come back? Probably yes mainly to grab ROYCE chocolates as gifts but for real grocery shopping, I'll still stick to H Mart, Costco, Shun Fat and T&K Supermarket in Westminster especially for Asian stuff. Finally today is the grand opening at 10!! Yay!!! I was waiting for a while since they announced Mitsuwa is coming this Summer. Delayed a lot longer. I got there at 10, guess what? I see tons of people about 400 people in a line before 10. But I decided to wait for the Japanese cutlet and udon at the food court. My hubby and I waited for over 2 hours, finally got in. Free giveaway bag was already ended a while ago. I didn't expect giveaway free items. Too many people at the food court, ordering, waiting, eating... What a crazy mess!!! I feel terrible to stay at the food court waiting waiting for our foods over 30 mins, so many flies are everywhere. Nothing much I could buy from grocery at the moment. The precooked bento type foods, promo rice, I can't see what items are really good prices. Looked almost basic items, instant ramens, rice balls, bento, sushi, and oden. The concept of food court are not bad. Ice-cream Macha store, mochi, Japanese cookies and rice cakes, Ramen specialty restaurant, and Tokyo Shokudo cutlet udon restaurant. Not many choices compared to Costa Mesa, Torrance. I got frastrated almost 3 hours to wait, wait, and eat our foods w lots of flies. I couldn't digest and relax. Ruined my golden morning. I expected too much for the Mitsuwa. I am not sure I can go back for the grocery items. To be honest, Korean market has everything w great prices. You can relax and enjoy shopping. So tired, so frastrated to eat Tokyo Shokudo Udon and curry, and cutlet.... Cutlet portion was so tiny. Unbelievable!! I wanted to leave as soon as I saw too many flies everywhere, when we got the foods, OMG!!! The Cypress location is not big enough for the grocery and foodcourt. I'd used to go to Torrance and Costa Mesa in the past. Cypress is way too small. Not many restaurants, no fresh bakery. Especially not organized today for the grand opening. Why did we wait for over 2 hours to get in the market???? Opening time is 10. I got in there after 12. Waiting for the foods a lot longer. So many flies bothered people at the entrance, foodcourt, even in the kitchen areas. How can the chefs cook in this environment?? Sanitary issue.... Insane!!!
