I believe our people are truly intertwined I do want to say I am impartial when posting a review and only note what I see, how I feel, and the way I've been treated my the staff of the business I visit. The business looks like a quaint family owned business, which is dear to my heart as my family has multiple businesses we own as well. I was browsing Yelp and came across this business and from the reviews I decided to give it a go. I set the destination on my navigation on my car and while driving I can just taste what the food is going to taste like and I got even more hungry. When I arrived and walked into the store, I was greeted instantly by a kind gentleman and after exchanging salutations, I looked at the food bar and was in shock, disappointed, and speechless. The choices displayed looked like left overs from sunday's toga'i. I just couldn't believe that uncle was still trying to sell what was there, which was nothing, the taro was black, there was one piece of povi masima and I don't know how long that cabbage has been in there, the sapasui???, there was no bananas I am now very Hangry and I don't know what to eat because as I said earlier in my review, I could already taste what the food was going to taste like and I was super excited to have Samoan food only to be extremely disappointed when I got there read more

Sorry to say this about your store.. but we got there around 930 and it was locked ,so we waited a few minutes and nothing. No one around. I really would give this place a five but honestly I ran across some issues here. There was a time when the food was great but however recently that wasn't the case. The lamb tasted old, the taro looked like it had been over cooked as if what was not sold was being reheated, I gave this place a three because the people who work there are always friendly and the cans of pisupo comes in clutch when looking to buy but the food is a hit or miss so you got to try at your own risk. read more

I asked owner if there was any oka left and he said there's a lot left in the fridge where soda is. I open fridge and asked him this looks old. He goes, "No it's still good I make from yesterday." My family drove 2 hours for samoan food for me because I was craving it like crazy and what I got; it was a disaster!! The faalifu already smelled mafu, the taros itself killed themselves, the sapasui was salty and hella-dry, the povi masima fired itself....lets just say everything was a disaster! The shady guy even looked at me to see if I would say anything about the price. He is overcharging Kumar! You need to check your workers. He is selling old disgusting food too! It was my first time here. After the Annual Pacific Islander Festival at Huntington Beach Public Library, I asked around for a Samoan of Tongan restaurant. Yelp searches only listed Hawaiian restaurants, but I really wanted something authentic. Someone told me to check out this market-it has native souvenir items and I think rental videos too? It's a culturally rich hole in the wall with a buffet line of food of your choosing. Their menu is simple. I got the Lunch Special because it had a taste of everything for $13. A bit pricey, but I was willing to pay that much to keep this small business going. This is what I ordered and they were so sweet to explain in detail what I was getting myself into lol. Taro and banana coconut milk-not too sweet. Sapasui-lamb- he joked that it was chopsuey, small pieces of lamb (yum!), no veggies. It reminded me of Pancit because it was clear, but the noodles were much thicker. Turkey tail- he told me I would love it, it was too gamey for me but seemed to be cooked with TLC Sosisi- sausage, I wondered... is this pork lol. Pineapple Moon Pie- this was delicious. Not too sweet and the homemade crust was the perfect cakey-not flakey texture. It was a crowd pleaser. Because I'm Vietnamese. He whispered to me that an old Vietnamese lady bakes them and drops them off on Saturday mornings. I will be back again for that moon pie-as for everything else, I like veggies and rice with my meat. Looking to make your own Lau Lau??? I have been...for years. Problem is, where do you get the luau (taro) leaves? Asian supermakets do not carry them, even Marukai, which carries a ton of Hawaiian food stuffs let me down. Enter Boutique Samoa. Well, what I first thought was Le Manai Stores. Le Manai Stores was a place I found on Alohaworld.com. It was the closest Samoan grocery store to OC that claimed to carry luau leaves. I finally get there today, and find that Le Manai does not exist anymore, but a few doors down is Boutique Samoa, a place that has Samoan, Tongan, Hawaiian and Fijian food, clothing, music, you name it. Look for their sign on Western Avenue, as it is tucked behind a corner store...you'll see. They have a fast food counter, similar to Manila Grille on Knott Ave. Instead of filipino fast food, there is a great assortment of polynesian dishes. Their grocery selection is unique, lots of items that someone who grew up in the islands would recognize. Everything from rock salt to koko samoa. They even have colorful Polynesian styles of Puletasi's, Mu'umu'u's and Aloha Shirts. After years of searching for luau leaves, my quest finally ended, today at Boutique Samoa. They sell them by the pound, $2.99/lb. and get them shipped in from Hawaii once a week. Ask for "Papa"...who was extremely friendly and laid back, you wouldn't know you're in the middle of SoCal with this guy, trust me. Support this local family business. Make some lau lau at home! They have delicious turkey tails, sapasui, palusami (on the weekend), curry, taro, kava, shirts, music, lava lavas, li hing mui and other popular bbq & canned foods from the south pacific. It's tucked away behind a liquor store on the southwest corner of Ball & Western. The guy behind the counter is always friendly. Price is charged by the pound. We came here because my husband was craving for Samoan food. We ordered 2 plates. One was $12 included three Meats with fa'i (banana) and Taro and the other was $15 included 4 meats with fa'i and taro. We also purchased 2 pineapple pies and a small can of corn beef. All this came out to about $44. The food was very good!! Cooked on point. Turkey tail was tender and flavorful, chop suey was perfect.. not dry, had turkey tail mean mixed inside had lots of blended flavor. The lamb rib was deliciously baked tenderly. The povi masima (corn beef) was boiled perfectly as it was very tender also. I can see why the food is pricey because it's very time consuming to cook these foods however.. the first day we went there , the portions were considerable. Next day my husband loves it so much that I went to pick up another plate but they guy that served it that next day was very stingy with the food and was not worth paying for.
