Tamales and soups
Christy C.

Such a cool market that sells lots of fresh tortillas, pastries, tamales, ceviche, Mexican snacks and goodies! They even have booths that sell tortas, agua frescas, tacos, pazole, etc! Also, they have daily specials and it comes with a FREE agua fresca! Parking can be difficult especially on the weekends because it gets pretty busy but they have a big parking lot. It can get pretty crowded so try to come early if possible since they open at 7am especially if you come on the weekend! Service was very friendly and welcoming! Prices were pretty affordable! Got a container of super fresh and delicious guacamole for $6! The bag of chips i got was only $2 and were so fresh, crispy, and not too salty. The asada taco was freshly made and such a good deal for $2! The meat was marinated well, tender, and flavorful and the taco consisted of a lot of meat! The tortilla was so fresh and soft! The watermelon agua fresca ($6) was too sweet so I only had a couple sips but I had a sample of their horchata and it was good and not too sweet! Would definitely recommend and return!

Guacamole habanero was really good! The chicharones with meat was really greasy and not very crunchy. Would buy the guac again it was $7

It's been a minute since I've been inside north gate market, but oh man is it a foodies paradise inside. No time to cook, no problem. North gate has you covered. There are so many options to choose from and everything tastes amazing! Staff is friendly and incredibly helpful. An absolute must try is the agua frescas. The horchata con café is like an iced coffee with horchata and it is absolutely delicious. Another must try are the tortillas. They have a variety, but my favorite are the nopal (cactus) tortillas. Super affordable, healthy, vegan, and also very delicious. Another favorite are the Mexican mini sandwiches made with ham, queso fresco, avocado, and pickled jalapeños. The sweet bread here is also very good. Not overly sweet and the bread is soft. Lastly, a must is the beans. Specifically, the ones with bacon, ham, and cut up hot dogs. Full of flavor and pairs perfectly with their carnitas. Overall, I highly recommend this market. It truly is a one stop shop. I definitely will be back!

I'd been craving sweet bread for a couple of days and knew this place would have it -- so I decided to stop by. Glad I did! The sweet bread was fresh and absolutely delicious. You can really taste the quality. Definitely coming back next time the craving hits!

Compare with Asian supermarkets, it is clearer and tidier, with wide aisles and good vibes. Staff are nice! We bought some bananas, vegetables, snacks and guacamole

Bunch of flies

Please don't order any cooked food here , flies everywhere and the ladies behind the counter don't care , I'm surprise the health department haven't shut it down , I use to enjoy this place

Did the tortas get smaller? Still decent price though. Especially if you get weekday lunch special with the medium size aqua fresca = $7.99 If you get the ladies, they work fast and give you decent amount of meat. If you get the young guy (who is most likely the only english speaking person), he will likely be slow and give more beans than meat. The cantina doesn't have it's own check out. You'll have to wait in line the grocery line. Sucks because the meal can get soggy. But you can eat on the spot, there are 2 tables inside. The supermarket has everyday low price items and produce is pretty good. Usually we get the fresh tortilla and salsa to make tacos at home. They're very nice.

A wide variety of beans

It is all about Mexican food and ingredients i. this large store. You know it is authentic when the majority of the. customers are Hispanic looking for their favorite and usual items. They carry everything you need to cook Mexican and most brands are available. What makes this place special is that they have a lot of different fresh food items such as fresh tortillas , ceviches, soups ,tortas and pastries not to forget the usual tamales ! All fresh , nicely presented and checked carefully for temperature. The prices are the same as elsewhere despite a lot of signs indicating sales and deals. They don't have many stores but they are worth checking out if you are planning to cook Mexican . The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable so they can be of great help if you need advice.

I came here strictly just to get some hot foods. I can say I really enjoyed the tamales especially for like $2.50 each. The soups were a bit more expensive at $5.99 each but they tasted quite good. A lot of good stuff here including some really nice cakes, I'd def be back to try more stuff.

Bad! Unfortunately no bags for produce and the employees outside texting I count him 20min hidden and no supervision at all. That sucks!

Deborah, the owner, is incredible and truly passionate about sharing Oaxacan cuisine the right way. You can feel that intention in every dish. The guacamole is fresh, vibrant, and beautifully balanced--simple ingredients, done right. Their Oaxacan horchata deserves special recognition: lighter, more nuanced, and less cloying than the typical version, with a flavor profile that feels thoughtful and refreshing rather than overly sweet. This was also my first time trying chapulines, and it couldn't have been a better introduction. Knowing they're sourced directly from Oaxaca adds so much meaning to the experience. Earthy, savory, and surprisingly approachable--an authentic taste of regional tradition that you don't find easily. El Ruizenor Grill isn't just a restaurant--it's a cultural experience. If you appreciate food with history, integrity, and soul, this spot in Temple City is a must-visit. I'll absolutely be back.

The only bad thing was that it tasted more like a can of tomato sauce. It wasnt spicy at all. Very bland. The chilequiles with rice and beans were good except that the cook made my eggs well done instead of sunny side up. They looked like pancakes on the bottom of the egg. Anyways, loved tge chumpurado. The best I've had in a long time. They serve it in a cute coffee mug. Overall, not bad. I may go back for the presentation and price
