Came here with low expectations but my expectations were exceeded. The produce here was actually quite fresh and reasonably price. The outside does look rundown and ghetto but once you actually get inside it looks like a very normal Asian market. I came here for hotpot ingredients and they have everything from veggies to all the meats that you would need. This is my new goto in the area for Asian goods.

    One fish to go.

Pretty good for Asian supermarket in El Monte area. They have most of what 99 ranch has, if you need cheap veggies go there.

Solid spot for hot pot supplies and packaged treats. Prices were much better than HMart/99/168 for the items I was shopping. If you can mind an older looking market, this place works out.

Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 - #92/100 This used to be El Valle grocery store. There was always something going on as far as improvements. First, I noticed that the aisles seemed a little cleaner and the lighting a lot better. Then, a boba station popped up. I don't know when the name finally changed. I didn't notice any signage that said grand opening, under new management, or something like that. Their meat station had a B grade. I agree as I could smell the unpleasant odor while I was making my rounds through the store. I know where I'm not getting my meat from. Their fruits and vegetables didn't look too fresh either as I noticed quite a few that are rotten but were still on display. Three stars coz they got frozen durian. Would've been 4 stars if they had my mom's special tea. We used to buy 30-40 boxes every time we come. Now they didn't even have one. Bummer now I have to look for them in another store. Some of the display cases were empty, looks like improvements are still ongoing.

The place can be messy but they have the Asian food I need with good price and fresh produce. Wish I had enough space in my car to buy more

A nice Asian grocery store and usually open until 8 PM. The downside is the entrance is not well lighted and not eye-catching.

I usually get: Salmon, Toro, Yellowtail, Scallops, and Oysters. If available, uni trays and fresh wasabi (which can also be picked up at HMart). Scallops are my favorite but every piece of fish is so good and cut perfectly. Parking and pick up is easy. It is a very small store front with one party inside at a time and pay at the counter. Highly recommend for party platters for fresh sashimi.

I usually get 1 pound of shrimp with head on but today they didn't have it so I went with the headless shrimp. For 2 fried tilapia and 1 pound of shrimp the check came out too $24. Most recently, my Mom and I came to checkout the sugarcane juice vendor. We got ourselves one large cup with ice for $7. It is $12 if you want no ice. You have to pay more money if you want all juice. Sugarcane juice tasted refreshing and sweet. I would get it again with no ice next time. I may just bring my own ice or drink it as is.

Do not assume that something will have the same taste and texture as what you remember from hometown just because it looks similar. I once bought frozen razor clams that turned out to be chewy, smelly, and almost impossible to chew. Another time, I bought a bag of frozen green mussels. They had exactly the same shape and color as the ones I usually bought from Chinese markets, but they were not cooked. Once defrosted, they practically melted into water. Vietnamese markets also sell many kinds of fish by weight. Most of them are good, but you need real experience when buying raw seafood. Otherwise, it is very easy to waste money. Thuan Phat is a typical Vietnamese market in this sense. You can get most of the ingredients a Chinese family needs. Their fried or dried pork skin is actually much better than what I have found in most Chinese grocery stores. But again, only buy what you know. You need to know the quality, and you need to know how to process it. This Thuan Phat also has several tanks and a full seafood counter for live seafood, including crabs, tilapia, and other fish. The prices are lower than at many Chinese markets, and honestly, the quality is not bad at all.
