This place only lets you in and you can't get out unless you go through the opened register line, which means you need to squish behind a person standing at the register. Felt like everyone was mean there. No one smiled and didn't help. I was standing at the hot foods and the ladies behind the counter was talking amongst themselves and never helped. I bought some tamales and the beef tamales were raw. The masa wasn't fully cooked. I also order hot food from your deli it was delicious but the girl serving it had an attitude. She wasn't friendly to start off and when I order a couple of dinners she was upset because she had to warm Up my tortillas. I have heard about Northgate market through their radio commercials and probably television commercials also but today was my first time ever going into one and shopping. I have to say that my experience was excellent. I've never had such genuine customer service at a grocery store in my entire life. There were a total of three employees who engaged with me to ask me how I was doing and if I needed any help throughout my shopping visit. What made it more authentic was that they all spoke to me in Spanish! Beyond the noteworthy customer service, the fresh food such as the ceviche bar and tamale bar is amazing! I live right behind Gonzalez Northgate Market, and they have their delivery trucks come in every day from 5 AM-6:30 AM. These trucks and the sounds of unloading are very loud, and I cannot sleep through the noise. Despite speaking to the manager many times over many weeks about it, nothing has changed. This market breaks city ordinances around quiet hours, and I am extremely disappointed by the lack of response from management. Yesterday, I came to pick up some chille rellenos, rice and beans for dinner, and ended buying a taco for me, some seafood, birria, chicken salad, chicharron, guacamole and salsa, some carne en salsa verde... Geez Louise, as stated before do not come here when you are starving, you'll want to buy more than what you came for. Indeed, the process are very reasonable, the food is delicious not something you can eat everyday if you care about your health and waistline. This is my favorite Mexican market. Northgate has it all, and it is all good. The Tortilleria makes a wide variety of fresh made corn and flour tortillas. This is the only place where you can find authentic flour tortillas that are thin and do not resemble pitas. Northgate also has an excellent bakery producing delicious Mexican sweet bread, cakes, and savory rolls, also known as bolillos. The butcher shop offers personalized service and you can find a great selection of seafood, beef, pork, chicken and deli products butchered according to your desires. Here you can find fresh Mexican chorizo, giant shrimp from Sinaloa, or Mennonite cheese from Chihuahua. Besides the great selection of Mexican and Latin American and Spanish foods, Northgate also offers a great variety of home style pre-cooked dishes that at prepared at the store and ready for consumption. Produce is fresh and usually much cheaper than at other standard grocery stores. I buy most of my family's foods at Northgate and will recommend it to anyone looking for a good butcher shop and fresh produce regardless of the type of food you plan to prepare. read more

I had always gone to the store off of Hacienda since I moved to La Puente from San Diego but today I decided to go to the one in West Covina since the other store gave me some bad service in the Kitchen dept. I was amazed how nice and clean the store was. The floors were like glass, really shiny! For an older location and I've been to quite a few Northgate's this one was very impressive. I think going forward I'm going to stay at this one as the service and presentation looked like they really care what the customer see's! A very friendly advice be very careful when you buy "fresh salmon" it is my second time that happens to me I bought it and when I get home and tried to cook it I founded that it has a very bad smell and have to go back to the store and complain but at this point they should knew that is not safe for consumers and for the company itself for this thing's keep happening . Northgate's prepared food is always great. However, I was disappointed today. I went early this morning to get the 94 oz menudo but it had so many bones. I guess I should've paid attention while the lady was filling the container since she seemed confused. She asked 3 staff which container she was supposed to use. Me and my family bought over $200 of groceries to make tamales. We purchased the masa prepared and it was not made correctly. The tamales took us 7 hours to cook. Whoever prepared it didn't put the baking soda in it and the reason we know this is because the supervisor named Andres told us when we called the store. Being that it ruined the whole tamales. Mind you they still sold the masa knowing that it wasn't prepared correctly. We call the supermarket and on the phone Andres told us go to the store to talk to the manager so they can fix it. So my mom goes to the store and talks to Jesus the store manager and he offered my mom $50 in store credit, mind you this doesn't even cover the amount of the other groceries we bought and he still offered $50 knowing their employee didn't prepare the masa correctly and that was the best he can do. My mom goes to the cashier and gets two dozens of tamales which totals up to $59 dollars and the cashier Jose chuckled when my mom mentioned Jesus told her to go get the store credit at the cash register. The cashier whose name is Jose is really unprofessional. He goes and tells a female manager and when he comes back he started helping out other customers. Which he had my mom waiting in line until my mom had to go back to Jesus to get assistance because she was being ignored. They didn't give her what she wanted. All they gave her was $50 in store credit and nothing else and left us with no tamales and 30 pounds of masa now that we have to throw away. Plus the rest of the ingredients that we had to put inside the tamales. I don't recommend coming here if you have any issues they'll laugh at you and not keep their word. We're never buying from here again. If anybody has any recommendations to buy masa anywhere else let me know. read more

On the seventh of November. I shopped at Northgate. On Francisquito Ave. and my experience was delightful. The butcher ignored my miserable attempt to speak Spanish and was so mannerly. He asked where I had learned my Spanish, etc. His name was Mike. My cashier was equally courteous, but I did not see her name. This is a great place to get all your Mexican food needs. They have Aqua Chile that is delicious as is the Tilapia ceviche. Their house made salsas are just as good and definitely spicey hot! You will not be disappointed. The also have Tres Leche cake, very good, and freshly made pan dolce. There is also cooked food that you can buy there and enjoy as they have a few places to sit. This review is for the pico di gallo only, the one labeled as the Northgate Market brand. It's missing a core ingredient in lime juice and is lacking in flavor as a result. Not tasting your product upon completion is an indictment upon the quality assurance process that allowed this ongoing problem to occur. This Northgate location is actually one of the best ones out of the others in the area. Their staff is friendly and helpful. The store is clean and stocked. Unlike the Northgate on Hacienda Blvd in La Puente & the one on Ramona Blvd in South El Monte. Those two locations should learn from this location. They should learn how to be friendly & helpful to customers, especially customers who are not of their race. I love Northgate. They offer really good products at competitive prices. I just don't like going to stores who pretend they do not understand my order (at the meat counter & deli) each & every time.
