I definitely would say I ordered the wrong thing, so that could be on me. I ordered the gluten free quinoa and coconut pancakes. They were nothing like what I expected. I thought they would be light and airy and delicious, but they were very thick and heavy and overly sweet. I thought it would have perhaps coconut flour and/or sort of a delicate tasty coconut flavor. But it was full of lots of large amounts of big shredded coconut within the pancakes, which overwhelmed them. The texture was not appealing, and the flavor and experience wasn't what I expected. I have been to quite a few silver diners in my time. Each one has incredible aesthetics and good food. This one in particular is similar to the rest in that sense. But with the Arlington flair that I have come to be used too. The restaurant itself is located in a nice part of town. The outdoor seating is exceptional. I love being able to sit outside in the quaint area and see all the dogs walk past. I tried Shakshuka for the first time and it was absolutely incredible. My most recent venture out was for a brunch with the family, and while they can be picky at times there was no risk of that here. I got a staple order of Corned Beef Hash with sunny side up Eggs and really enjoyed mixing it all together to capture the saltiness of each combined piece. I came by here for a quick brunch on the weekend. It was packed with people sitting indoors and outdoors so I figured this would be a great place to enjoy a meal. I was able to go in and find a table in the back. The waiter came by quickly and offered their house specials and other options. I decided to start off with their cold brew which came locally from the Compass Coffee nearby. The coffee was good but I wish they offered free refills because it went by very quickly. I ordered the California omelet which seemed to be one of the more healthier options. It came with whole wheat bread and a side of fruit. Everything was good and filling. I enjoyed the bread and the fruit more than the omelette somewhat. Then I was able to pay the bill at the table and head on my way home. Do read the board when you enter. I ordered chicken pot pie from the specials. I have had other things such as bacon burger, ribs, wings etc. highly recommend their milkshakes as well. Oreo one is my favorite. Customer service can be slightly slow around that time depending on the number of servers they have. Sometimes they get large groups and it can be slow. My husband likes this place, so we come about once a month for breakfast. Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 times the sausage is dry. I suspect we are getting leftovers from the previous day, since we tend to arrive early for breakfast. Why not just microwave the leftover sausage instead of refrying it? When it's fresh, the sausage is great, but when it's leftover, it's disappointing and dry. The last time, which was last week, the sausage was so dry I couldn't cut it with knife and fork. I actually couldn't even pierce it with the fork. My husband orders eggs over easy, and I order eggs over medium, but they both come out over easy. It would also be nice if the jam caddy came with the meal. Instead, I usually have to ask for it after my food arrives and wait a few minutes. Once I even asked for it when ordering, but the waitress forgot, so I had to wait again after the meal arrived. In the old Clarendon location, the caddies were already on the table. I never order waffles anymore because they always come out cold, and the butter won't melt. It's a shame, because the waffles used to be good. I'm going to ask my husband to try the Metro 29 diner next time. On the plus side, he likes his meals. read more

This place has an expansive menu, and I sat at the bar because it was packed. I finally decided to order blueberry pancakes with maple sausage with eggs over easy and a side of toast, and a hot coffee. The coffee was very hot (perfect), the eggs were done perfectly, but the pancakes and sausage were SO dry! It took me a few bites to realize that my pancakes had no blueberries, and if they did, maybe they'd be a little less dry. I don't know that I'd be back here for breakfast or otherwise. read more

I have been sitting on this review for a few days now, as I have been unsure whether or not it would be responsible to document my experience. Indeed, I'm not sure whether the world is ready for my account, or whether it will do more harm than good. But I cannot stay silent any longer. God help me, but there are things in this world which must be committed to pen lest they drive a man mad thrashing like animals in his skull I'll start at the beginning. On Friday evening, August the 22nd at some time around 10 PM, I entered this establishment with three friends of mine. For the sake of anonymity, I'll refer to them as Claire, Patrick, and John. Patrick had summoned us there, at first saying that he desperately needed to speak to us and it was an emergency. However, when Claire spoke with him, he was eerily calm. He claimed he had been wandering the streets of Arlington in a daze for some time, and was enraptured by the neon lights of the Diner. "Can you see it?" His voice sounded far away, full of awe and horror. I was quite taken aback and urged my friends against this course of action, but Claire wanted to be supportive. And so the four of us embarked upon a night of horror. Something was wrong with Patrick the moment he walked in. He was silent, staring into space. While the rest of us ate food, he ordered exactly two glasses of water and sat. He looked upon our waitress with a strange and filmy gaze and asked what her name was, which we all felt strange but let slide. The true horror didn't come until later in the night, when Claire ordered mozzarella sticks. Now, for those who don't know, "mozzarella sticks" is a misleading name on the Silver Diner menu; they are more akin to spinach and egg rolls stuffed with mozzarella. When the food arrived, Claire was quite distraught and asked if she could order something else. A common misunderstanding, the sort that happens all the time. That's when Patrick seemed to snap out of his trance and became violently deranged. "What are those?!" He screamed and shrieked, visibly soiling his pants. "What are those?!? This is an affront to God!!! Can't you see it??? CAN'T YOU SEE IT?!? YOU'VE LET [something]* INTO YOUR DINER!!! YOU ARE JUST LIKE THE REST!! CORRUPTION!! DECEPTION!!" *he spoke a word here I could not understand, but seemed to grate and burn the air around his mouth and made us all cringe to hear it. My ears were ringing for hours afterwards. "Hey, sweetheart," he addressed the waitress, which was probably worse to hear than whatever Eldritch being he had previously called upon and immediately made me break out into considerable strong oaths of "WOAH, hey". I do not want to be the guy sitting with the guy calling the waitress sweetheart. "Bring me your manager. Lay his body prone before me," he continued. Thankfully, the young man was walking by at just that moment and heard the commotion. Claire and I screamed and begged him with tears in our eyes to stop his madness as he continued to rave at the hapless manager. "[The Name] is unravelling reality around us, and YOU are the problem!! Truth is intersecting with fiction, and we are not who we are!" His voice now was calm and measured, which was worse than his panicked animal screams. "You must understand, worthless diner-monger, there are designs upon this world. Architecture in the darkness. Do not listen to them. Do not listen to these fools appealing to my better nature. They have not seen what I have. They will soon. It's coming. It stalks the concept of truth, the endless infinity between molecules, and you are sick with it. I can see it writhing inside your skin like maggots. Christ, you make me sick. Prostrate yourself and slit your own throat before you become a puppet, your tendons made into marionette strings." While all this was happening, by the way, John had conveniently stepped out to have a cigarette, useless bastard that he is. Anyway, Claire finally dragged him out as he began weeping and clawing his eyes. He screamed all the way to the door, gouging his flesh with his fingernails and shouting "Can you see it??? Can you see it?!?" So of course, I'm sitting all alone at this table trying to enjoy my chicken tenders (which were fire, by the way), and now I have to do damage control. I apologized profusely to the waitress and manager, but they took it like champs. "Yeah, I've seen worse, I know he was drunk," the waitress smiled. The manager merely said "Well, at least he was being polite while ranting to me about the ontological threat my existence poses to the universe. I do wish he hadn't invoked one of the unspeakable names of The Endless and Faceless, but what can you do?" When he had finally settled down, he asked the waitress, face bleeding from the long rents he had carved in it, white-haired and shaking, if she hated him. Which was ALSO awkward. We love Silver Diner and have visited various northern Virginia locations for breakfast whenever possible. This morning, we decided to try the one in Arlington, and our dining experience was fantastic, as always. The restaurant has a nice retro diner feel with vintage-style illustrated posters, lighting fixtures, furniture, floor tiles, and other details throughout the interior. Our server, Said, provided excellent service. He was very amiable and checked on our table often to see if we needed anything else, making our dining experience extraordinary. The food was excellent. The turmeric carrot juice felt healthy, while the peach iced tea was freshly brewed and perfect. The corned beef with egg and nitrate-free bacon was filling and savory, and the Hickory Smokehouse cheddar burger was juicy and tasty. It was a great combination of sweetness from caramelized onions and BBQ sauce and saltiness from cheddar and bacon, which was mouth-watering. My eggs, ordered scrambled, were soft and runny. Not what I would have expected. I do not eat pork and asked that the ham be placed on a separate plate so my son could eat it. I have never been to this location and have only eaten dinner at these diners. I went for Eggs Benedict today. My friend had a full breakfast--eggs, pancakes, turkey bacon. Our server, Bibi, was very pleasant and served us promptly. My eggs Benedict came with potatoes. I need ketchup anytime I eat potatoes. There weren't any ketchup bottles on my table or nearby. I asked a waiter, who just happened to pass by, if he could get me a bottle. It never came. I did finally get it from another server. My eggs were perfect and there was a lot of hollandaise sauce (most restaurants never give you enough), I received my turkey bacon as a substitute for ham, and my friend seemed to really enjoy his meal too. Looks like the breakfasts are as good as the dinner options. I have two comments for this location: 1) I really didn't like the layout of the restaurant. There were two of us and we were stuck in the middle between two rows of booths and there were two rows of two. We felt like we were in the middle of a fishbowl. 2) This comment concerns the Host. He was doing a most inappropriate, unclean, very bad habit that children are taught as a young age not to do. If the manager direct messages me, I will let him know what this Host was doing. I found it difficult to eat my meal while this Host continued his bad habit. I sat facing him the entire time while at the diner. By the way, parking is very easy and underground. I actually visited the Silver Diner three times during my time here as it was across the street from my hotel. I should have ordered the wings every time as they were delicious.
