A true nightmare new car buying experience. I now own a complete lemon that's still under warranty, plus I'm $10,000 deep in legal bills. I factory-ordered a brand-new Santa Fe PHEV, which has a verified drivetrain vibration that Hyundai mechanics have acknowledged but cannot fix. As soon as I involved a lawyer, they backtracked and claimed this was a 'normal characteristic of the vehicle.' This doesn't even cover the two incidents where the vehicle endangered our lives: once when it completely shut down without warning while turning left in front of oncoming traffic, and another due to unintended acceleration--the second of which the dealer never documented. To make matters worse, I requested they store the vehicle in their back lot until the issues were resolved, only to be told I'd be charged $20 per day for storage. So now, I'm stuck making payments, paying insurance, accruing interest on an SUV that has been sitting unused in my garage for over eight months. One which I cannot sell. On top of that, I've had to purchase a second vehicle as a replacement. An ongoing nightmare. To anyone reading this: do yourself a favor and never buy a Hyundai. They do not honour their warranties or stand by their products, and their dealers are nothing short of crooks. read more

I have to top up the oil in my Tucson consistently. (No leaks).You don't need to be a mechanic to know this is not normal. Approx 7 trips to this service department for check engine light, etc. Loss of income (missed work) and having to get rides. Soooo frustrating. They replaced the Catalytic converter was replaced but still use excessive oil for KM driven. What does it take to have it acknowledged as a lemon and replace the engine under warranty? Not good at all. Almost got charged for an oil change that was promised to be free from the moment I bought the car and confirmed the free oil change again when I called in to hook the appointment. Very upsetting to also have them say they cannot fully fix a scratch that was left by them, to instead buy a paint pen that can "cover" up most of it.. for me to buy the pen and do the work aswell. The mistake they made, for me to go and cover it up. What a joke The manager also told me that it would come with a complimentary gas top up, which did not happen.. Wouldn't recommend this dealership to my worst enemy, and that's truly disappointing after coming and seeing how nice things were and how it was before I bought the car.. Bought our Tucson because they gave us the best deal and highest trade value. We got a bunch of things thrown into the deal cuz I know how car sales works. The Tucson is still holding up well after 2 years and the service department treats us pretty well. We got the lifetime oil change package but that means we need to bring it here every 6000km. The parts manager is pretty helpful. He usually gives me a deal on parts especially since I'm usually buying for two vehicles (mother in law has a top of the line Tucson). I've gotten good deals on engine and cabin air filters cuz I bought 6 of each at once. We also got a discount on two sets of winter tires on rims. During the pandemic they don't wash the service vehicles which sucks but is understandable. read more

(Curtis and MIchael are the exception. They were AMAZING) At this current time, I'm still dealing with inconsistencies with their dealership and what feels like a total run-around. I've had my vehicle for 2 and 1/2 months. BSD System (On-going) - After a month I had noticed an error message stating that there was an issue with the BSD system. It had popped up and stayed which had me worried. The next day it had rained, and the notification had disappeared. I had called Northstar Hyundai and spoke to one of their techs and they had informed me that sometimes, the system can have buildup of dust which can create those errors. I had no need to confirm this because it had gone away. It wasn't until a few more weeks where the error message would just flicker on my odometer. It would flicker as I was driving or parked, and it just made me feel uneasy as it may choose not to work when I need it most. I had made an appointment with Southtown Hyundai as I live in the south end of the city and went there for more convenience. I was able to have the service advisor ride in the car with me so he can see what the issue was. He was able to confirm that it was happening, and they shuttled me home so they can look. A few hours later, I had received a call from my advisor, and he had let me know that there was a leak in the transfer case and that the BSD system was broken (wires cut, mounts broken, etc) which was surprising to me as we had just purchased the vehicle. Because of this, I reached out to Northstar to see if there was anything they could do for me as I had just purchased it 2 months ago. They had transferred me to one of their sales managers, Albert. He had informed me that, and I quote "They're just trying to make money off you, they have families to feed. Bring it here and we will look at it." All calls recorded. My advisor was kind enough to leave me his name just in case there was any funny business so I can always call him if there were any issues. Re-seal: apprx.$700.00 AND BSD system = apprx. $4,500.00 I didn't want to just leave the documentation there, so I had stepped in to speak to someone. I spoke to someone which was another manager at their dealership. I explained the situation and showed him everything that was given and everything that I had received. From the conversation, it seemed as if they would be able to do something for me. The next morning, I was told that they had confirmed that the BSD system was in fact, broken. Their one "change" was that the transfer case was "sweating" and not "Leaking" but eventually will need to be resealed. They gave me a quote for $1,200.00 for the BSD system and nothing for the reseal (price discrepancy from $4500 to $1000 leads me to believe that if there's so much play in price, why can't you just fix what should have been working to begin with) I tried explaining to them that I only drive from work to home (20km) and that there is no way that in the 2 months I had created that much damage to the system. I tried explaining to Albert how that was impossible for me to have created all that damage, but he wouldn't even humor me. At the end of the day, because I had made the purchase, the service discontinued. I was made to feel like I had broken it and that because it's mine, I must deal with it. I asked if they could at least throw in the reseal of the transfer case, but Albert just requested to "pay" for half of it like he was doing me a favor. Things NOT fixed in the car: 1. Filters (Both cabin and Air): NEVER REPLACED. I know that the previous owners had dogs because there was enough hair to make him. 2. Oil: Spent around $340 for a whole flush as the oil in the engine was essentially black AND really low. To emphasize how I know they chose to do nothing is because this vehicle's CARFAX states that, ALL services, oil changes, you name it, were done at Northstar Hyundai. It was as if the couple enjoyed services as their list was so extensive. So, to have these situations and issues be present is really concerning. Everything done to this vehicle was done there so it's very suspicious how all this was missed. read more

Do not recommend buying anything used from this dealership. Their inspections are below subpar. Bought a 2016 Sonata in which inspection papers (keep in mind it took me over a dozen email requests to get the inspection report - making me believe they had to buy time to forge papers) state the motor is passing condition as a certified sale. This should not equal burning oil and bearings that are on the way out. I have been topping it up with oil every one to two weeks, and this is roughly 100 to 200kms put on each time. car runs rough, strange idle at stop to go. -GM is the absolute worst human being to deal with. As stated above, it took me a dozen emails to get the inspection papers from him. when each time I replied no to not receiving them. I am not sure if this was buying time to adjust paperwork, or he simply cannot do simple tasks. Took well over a dozen emails to get an answer that the car did not require an alignment with the suspension work that was done prior to sale. --Still have not received the requested car fax they showed me at the dealership -Took car to another Hyundai Dealership who has now informed me the motor is on the way out and both sparkplugs and PVC valve require replacement. So why does the inspection report state otherwise? -The GM Ahmed claims they did good faith in buying me summer tires.. Summer tires in which were stated were part of the sale of the car. He must assume because he got hosed by the previous owner not returning the promised tires, this was a good move on them. He must have to go back to reading the contract. This was not something done in good faith. this was done as it was REQUIRED. BIG DIFFERENCE -I now have to take the car in every time the oil is low on the fill line to have it diagnosed how much is being burned in hopes Hyundai Canada will replace the motor. And yet the GM will still argue about changing the plugs and pvc, even though his team claims these were all in passing condition, and not realizing he can forward these charges to Hyundai Canada if they deem the motor requires replacement - GM was upset I would not bring the car to them to diagnose. I am still baffled to this day why he would think I would want to take it to a shop that clearly lies and passes vehicles that are not road worthy. -GM was unable to even answer questions when I brought up if warranty would cover anything. All he had to state was "if motor requires replacement, Hyundai Canada and Warranty will cover this". But he lacks the ability to do this or neglects to and would rather spend his time sending condescending and passive aggressive emails. If he spent 25% of the time he takes replying with useless emails. He may get something done. - GM had to ask another dealership what the warranty I purchased would cover. Again.. maybe there should be more time invested in actually helping an upset customer, instead of.. you know.. making them more upset. - At this point regardless if the motor is replaced or not, I will be filing updates with AMVICC, BBB and legal actions for the stress, lost work time and anxiety wondering if the car I just purchased will get myself and my children where we need to go. These will all be directed towards the GM of the business. not NorthStar. read more

Bought a used car for 26k all said and done and it broke within a month. I had it repaired under the extended warranty plan I bought. It broke again, same problem 2 days later. I told Northstar Hyundai about the issue of it not starting 3 times in 1 week, and told them I think they sold me a defective vehicle and I want them to take it back. It also had issued with the CD player overheating, which they said isnt a safety issue so even if it was sold to me broken they cant help me. They said vehicles break down, some are unreliable and even if they dont start, after someone buys it, the vehicle isnt their issue and they cant help me. I pleaded with them and showed them their guarantee on their website and told them I would buy another vehicle from them, I am desperate now to not be stuck with a defective vehicle. They would not exchange my vehicle like advertised on their website but they would buy my defective vehicle back as a trade in for a new 2020 Hyundai. They had me. I was completely at their disposal, a helpless consumer stuck with a defective purchase. I had no idea if my car would start when I needed it, they know I am out tens of thousands of dollars and they are my only hope for any resolution that wouldn't financially cripple me. I walked away buying a new 2020 vehicle worth $26,000 and I'm paying $33,000 for it. They had charges for whenever they wanted to charge me... $500 block heater fee, $500 for etching fee, plus whatever they felt like giving me for my trade in. They said the most they will take my original car back for is $16500. I tried to negotiate anything extra into the deal and told them i dont want to pay all those extra charges... they said no. Then I gave them a referral code for their go auto referral bonus and they said it doesnt apply because now I'm a 2nd time buyer. According to their website 2nd time buyers get $500 self referral bonus off the car, I asked for this and they said no. They had a $500 winter tire credit offer, they said no. I was completely at their mercy and I have never felt so powerless. Today I am the owner of a new car with a sticker price of $26,000 car that has a $33,000 loan on it. I feel financially violated and taken advantage of. I am so angry and sad and disappointed in myself. I am a victim of the auto industry. They stole $7,000 from me and I thanked them. read more

I have previously purchased 2 other vehicles from them and will never buy from there again. Managment was rude and ignorant and would talk to you like you're stupid. They feel like they are so high and mighty and will not take range rovers because they feel like they are better than that and are entitled, but yet they have an audi, BMW and a Mercedes on their lot. They are two faced hypocrites who just try and screw everyone around. Not only were they talking to us like we are stupid, they would not negotiate on prices, especially when the vehicle we were looking at had a lot of problems. They weren't even willing to fix the issues or drop the price of the vehicle, knowing full well there are multiple issues. I have never been so disappointed from a business where I have purchased 2 other vehicles from. I will never deal with them again as they don't deserve my business. read more

This morning I took my Palisade to Northstar Hyundai for a couple of recalls. The gas tank was full when I left house. After driving 30 km to the dealer the gas gauge showed 620 km. After I picked up the car at noon, gas light went on shortly and the gas gauge showed 50 km left. I returned immediately to the dealer, reported the problem and asked them to check for a gas leak. The car was checked immediately and no leak was found, but the tank was filled with $50 worth of gas. When probed, the service manager could not offer any explanation on why the gas disappeared. To reassure me, I was told the mechanic who worked on my car drives a diesel car, which means he was not interested in stealing my gas. Nobody could offer a credible explanation, nobody was interested in investigating more. read more

When we showed them that their numbers were incorrect they did not try to take it to what their original asking price was. Use your calculator to verify their numbers are correct. They are completely dishonest and didn't even try to rectify their mistake. I suggest you look else where. read more

Car sales are car sales. It's a tough business. What I like is transparency and "no games" when it comes to doing business with one. I finally found it. And I can thank Sales Manager Colin for that. As I understand he moved to a different dealership as GM. But it is a top down approach. And they are trying to change the "game". I purchased two new Hyundai's because of this. I can say without hesitation that I 10/10 would not recommend buying a car from Northstar Hyundai. I bought a used car there after a traumatic accident and feel extremely taken advantage of. I was promised all of my worries with the car would be dealt with and upon pick up I learned that none of them had been dealt with. I had to go back a second time and even after the second time there were still issues. Not to mention that I had made the wrong assumption in thinking I would receive 2 keys only to receive 1 key that only works some of the time. I was then told that the original owner had brought the second key back and that I could come get the key. Upon arriving I was given a key that is literally garbage as it had been gutted and is not functional. I had also previously spoken to the manager who assured me he would get a second key from the dealership but was then told that was not possible. I was sold a stinky, rusty car with 1 key that works 50% of the time. I have been given several promises of my issues being resolved only to find the same issues come up. I feel as though i am pestering Go Auto Northstar Hyundai however, if I was treated as an honest and valued customer then I strongly believe we would not have these issues. I do not recommend this dealership unless you are an expert on cars, and would take everything they tell you with a very large bucket of salt. I would also clarify how many keys you're getting and what kind of state those keys are in. The car I bought stunk of cat pee when I first picked up, there were crumbs in the back seat, there was some kind of goop on the windshield, there were spots of exposed rust and chips all over the car that were through the paint, and I was given only 1 key and told that if I wanted another I would have to buy one from the dealership. I had mentioned the smell and was told it would be dealt with, I was told that the spots would be covered and purchased extra "coverage" to cover paint a protective coating, I had been told the car would be cleaned, and I was never advised that there was only 1 key that was not functioning properly. Upon calling the manager I was told that a second key would be provided only to later be told that this was not possible. I brought my car in for a second time to deal with the other issues and I was told the rust and spots would be covered only to find that only some of the spots on the front had been dealt with, and that the interior remained in the same state it had been before I brought it in. Thankfully it no longer smells like cat pee so I guess I need to count my blessing. I would expect the vehicle I bought, in the condition I received it in if had i bought it from a Kijiji ad, not a "reputable dealership". Below is an image of the second key they gave me for the vehicle. The owner had dropped it off at the dealership, at the salesperson request on my behalf. I was advised the key was returned but was not told of it's condition. I was baffled when I arrived at the dealership that I was not warned, as I had mentioned having a spare key was important to me. I purchased a brand new car this past summer and was extremely happy with my sales guy. It was probably my least stressful car buying experience ever! Would highly recommend anyone going there to purchase and deal with Leon. Being newer to the Edmonton area and not having a regular mechanic, I decided to purchase their maintenance package. Their service center is beyond slow!! Twice I have gone in for an oil change and was given the approx time of a half hour. Both times it took up to 2 hours!! I understand that unexpected things come up when dealing with customers vehicles but perhaps they should consider having automotive techs that strictly deal with the oil changes, if they don't already, so they can get their customers out quicker. Based on my experiences here, I would never recommend anyone having their vehicle serviced here unless they don't mind kissing away a good portion of their morning or afternoon. read more

Overall the service department of this dealership is, to this date, the worse I have ever been. The ladies at the front were unprofessional, rude and ignored me despite me having had an awful experience already. The dealership decided to give me a deal for oil change and maintenance. However, I was planning on having a major service done on my vehicle and decided against it because of the customer service I got. The service advisor did not ask any questions and it was almost like I was an inconvenience. But that's ok, I understand how things work. This dealership must have very loyal customers to afford turning down new customers. Word of advice, never ever come to this dealership. Always ensure they completed everything they said and most importantly, tell them and rate them honestly. read more

Not a good experience at all! We bought a second hand vehicle from them that was fully inspected and in perfect working order. A few hundred kilometres in, the change oil light turned on; we checked the oil level and it was very low! It doesn't leak, so clearly they either didn't do the oil change they said they had done, or they didn't fill it up properly. After a few weeks, the weather got hot and we discovered that the air conditioning didn't work. After a lot of arguing over the phone I was able to drop off our car for them to assess and see if this was something that should have been caught at the inspection. They could not guarantee that it wouldn't cost me anything. They filled up the air conditioning for free and acknowledged that it should have been working to begin with. The air conditioning worked for a few months and then quit again. The mechanic that looked at it now (obviously I went to a different one) told me the engine from the back air conditioning is broken and needs to be replaced. The repair costs me $1000. This garage is a classic example of crooks pretending to offer you a great car, fully serviced. I would never recommend or go back there. read more

Bought a competitively priced used vehicle (BMW X5 35d) from Northstar. Their pre-release inspection showed an issue with an injector which they informed me of, and indicated they would pay the cost to have BMW replace the injector. I never noticed any issue on the test drive. BMW did the work and I signed the paperwork showing that Northstar had paid $2000 for the repair. I was picked up at the airport after flying in from Calgary to pick the vehicle up. I can't say enough about Alek and the dealership for the way they treated me. These people earned 100% of my respect and deserve all 5 stars. read more

I can't speak for the sales part but the service is actually pretty good. I say that because I've always thought dealers are crazy expensive for service but these guys are actually not bad. I'm no mechanic, but I know enough about cars to know they've been quite good about being honest about their recommendations and letting me know what has to be fixed and what should be fixed - and what doesn't really need fixing. Their prices seem to be in line with other dealers I've been to, so they're higher than other mechanics but they've also been pretty good about standing behind what they fix so that's worth a few extra bucks to me. read more

NorthStar Hyundai, unbelievable how you rip people off!!! First of all, buying a vehicle from your dealership as your salesman stated it was in perfect condition, meaning no corrosion etc, due to the fact that your company sold me extended warranty, I had an electrical issue last week which left my brake lights illuminated and even when the vehicle was turned off my lights flashed like my vehicle was having a seizure. I got my vehicle towed to you as it was unsafe to drive all that way hoping that my extended warranty would cover the electrical costs as this is what your company sold it to me for! Due to "corrosion" and only owning this vehicle for less than 10months you tried to rip me off stating all issues were not covered! ( pretty sure I the corrosion did not happen in this time that I owned this vehicle and the extended warranty) Your dealership also blamed me for the electrical wire saying "I live in a small town and must drive on gravel" and also " we don't know how you drive" FIRST OFF I don't live on a gravel road, I only have drove on paved roads, and this is not a 3rd world country with only gravel roads around...I can't even recall the last time I drove on a gravel road! Also, I don't off-road thanks tho!!!! You blamed the broken wire on a rock that "could have" hit it under a plastic protected undercarriage...hmmm!!! You diagnosed the car and charged me $160 then gave me a quote for almost $2000 for one broken wire! And did not complete the whole diagnosis because supposedly you needed to repair one wire first before proceeding! (Which I'm sure would have been another $2000 more!!!) I just had my vehicle repaired locally which cost me very very little and was almost 1800 less then what Northstar was changing me because my aftermarket tow package was shorting out! THANK YOU Gustafson's for fixing the problem in less than an hour! I am disappointed with how I was treated at NorthStar Hyundai and would NEVER ever recommend them to anyone. It all started when they installed the wiring for a trailer hitch on my new 19 Santa Fe. It was such a mess (and didn't work) that I had to get a local high specialist to tear it out and start over. Today I show up fo an oil a hanger and problems with the car lurching forward at stop lights and they say it's going to cost $85 per item if they deem it to be "normal". I scratched the work order and asked for my keys and the guy starts arguing and ends up with language and me leaving. read more

Me and my Husband went to look at a vehicle which was listed for $5277 that we ended up liking and were ready to buy. Once we sat down to go over the paperwork the price all of a sudden was $6071 even though Go Auto states right off their website "NO EXTRA FEES Other dealerships charge as much as $1,000 for "documentation" and "administration" fees, but we NEVER do. In fact, we don't charge you for any extra fees, period (besides taxes, of course). We don't like to play games. At Go Auto, you know what you're paying up front, EVERY TIME." We managed to come to a deal with the guy selling us the vehicle Shareef Kadri for $5800 and paid for the vehicle in full. After we paid we sat down to do the paperwork and Shareef came back and said "I was afraid this was going to happen" and said his boss wouldn't let him sell the vehicle for that price because it was just marked down yesterday. From my understanding, when you pay for something it's yours. Apparently not in their dealership. Shareef then said we would have to pay the $6000 and he would give us a VISA prepaid card for the excess. We disagreed and he continued to offer us VISA cards of higher amounts saying he would go across the street and purchase one out of his pocket which then pissed me off even more because I know as I'm sure many of you do too that they keep prepaid VISA cards at the dealerships to give to customers. He wasn't going to any store to grab a VISA. Lie after lie after lie. We still disagreed and I told him blatantly now I'm just pissed off with all the back and forth. They agreed to give us our money back which turned into a whole other scenario. We spent close to and hour at their til as they were having problems with their machine giving a refund that large. We understand technical problems happen and the girl at the til was great helping to get it sorted out with Interac however as this was going on the manager of the dealership then came to say he would sell us the vehicle for $5800 again. I imagine he was only doing this as there was customers lined up behind us waiting the entire time. So roughly two hours at the dealership and wasting our time he was then willing to give us the price which was originally given to us in the first place even though they said they couldn't sell it for that price. If he was wiling to sell it to us for that price in the end why all the drama in between? For the complete waste of time, BS and lies we still chose to walk away and will never go back. You don't sell your customer a vehicle and after they've paid the full price go back and change the price. Ridiculous! read more

Just an update to my review. Since I brought my car to Northstar Hyundai, they added my home address to a junk mail list. They also gave out my personal/private phone number to a marketing company. If you value your privacy at all, avoid this place. They have zero regard for your personal information and your privacy. Two middle fingers up to Northstar Hyundai. After years of trusting this company, I will not go back to Hyundai for any of my future vehicle service needs. I was told I would receive specific items with my new vehicle by my sales person at Northstar Hyundai, but she never followed up to make sure those promises were met. For instance, I asked about a car starter and she stated it couldn't be done at the time but would "find a way". I now feel that I was told these things for a quick sale, but these promises were not fulfilled. Fucking awful, I have never been treated so poorly.I'm not one to leave reviews but this dealership has screwed me over so many times I can hopefully save it from happening to someone else. I bought a car for $32,000 from these assholes in April 2021, I was 20, a nursing student and definitely couldn't afford it. The finance manager, Michael, upsold me on a $2000 platinum warranty that had tire coverage-if I had a flat they were supposed to repair it for free. Every time I came in with tires that needed repair, I was told my warranty didn't cover the tires. Last winter I was super broke and I tried everything to help my financial situation, I was working long hours on top of doing nursing school, asked the bank for delayed payments and contacted multiple dealerships to try to get the value back for my car, cara depreciate as soon as you drive them off the lot, I get that. I eventually gave up and was really struggling when I brought my car in for an oil change. The customer service manager approached me about how I had tried to resell my car and asked if I needed help. He said he could help me and had said he would trade in my Kona for a cheap, older Elantra where I would have manageable payments. I was an absolute disaster and was crying because I was in such a bad financial spot, rather than doing as promised they showed me a 2021 Elantra and said they would sell me that car with lowered payments to "help me out". I was so upset and thought it was my only option so I took it. My payments went from $270 biweekly to $212 biweekly in a $20000 car with a $32000 6 year loan. I needed the money so bad I took it. While I was in the finance office Michael, asked if I wanted my $2000 platinum warranty moved over to the new car, I initially said no as to do so would cost an extra $6 a month. That's not a lot of money but I was sitting there sobbing because I couldn't afford anything at the time and didn't want to waste the $2000 I initially paid. He told me "if you were my child I would tell you to take it". I took the warranty under the impression that it was moving the platinum warranty including tire protection over to my new car. Today I went in to get a flat repaired, I was told I did not have tire warranty and would need to speak to the finance manager. Michael approached me with a piece of paper checking off things we had apparently discussed when I traded my car in for the lowered payments, on it it was checked off that I had declined tire protection. I tried to stand my case and explain that I had thought that by paying that $6 extra a month my entire platinum warranty (that I'm paying off in my $32000 loan) would be transferred to my new car. NOPE. I walked out and didn't let them work on my car. I work damn hard for my money and I'm beyond upset this dealership took advantage of a young woman in desperate financial need and fucked me over at least 3 times. Don't give these bastards your hard earned money, don't buy their useless fucking warranty that doesn't cover anything if you actually read the fine print. I will never EVER be buying a vehicle from a dealership again and I am incredibly appalled by the lack of humanity displayed by these people. read more

Brought my car in for an oil change. There was a recall on a part. Asked about a loaner car before service was done just in case. They said one would be provided in case my car had to stay for a day or so. Turns out it had to as they did not have the part in. Loaner car was not available when they called and said they had to keep the car until tomorrow as it was not driveable due to the part being defective. Cab was offered to get me home but no way to get to work the next morning. Overall pretty unhappy, will be going to another dealership for routine service. read more
