I should have read these reviews before booking. It really is like Russian roulette. I didn't not realize that we are booking individual condos so amenities vary. We are currently at 4056 coyote fork (ski slopes 2bd/1ba condo). Not that it matters. You don't find out what condo you're in until you're here. The condo itself is mostly fine. Good Wi-Fi. Furniture is fine. Linens and towels clean and fluffy (very nice --out of proportion with the rustic feel of everything else). This particular unit has very nice cordless mini blinds. (I recently looked into this for my own home so I know they're pricy). Bathroom is serviceable. There is no AC. My beef with this is that of the six windows in this unit, only two have screens. It's hot as hell here. In the evenings if you have the windows open--all manner of moths, mosquitos and insects come in. Last night we turned off all the lights and electronics and opened all the windows and doors in the place for a good half hour to try to cool things off. Then we closed up the screen less windows again so that crazy bugs wouldn't get in. With all of that, and all the fans running, last night was the worst night I've ever had staying at any accommodations including hostels, motel 6, best western, camping, and truly roughing it. It was sweltering AND we were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. Honestly we would have been better off sleeping outside because then we would still be eaten alive but at least not roasted. I considered leaving in the middle of the night and driving all the way back to SF. I called the front desk this morning and there's basically nothing they can do. The front desk is North Star but the condo is managed by whoever owns this particular unit and the HOA. North Star sent their maintenance person by who was very nice and was gonna try to get us window screens but then basically his boss said he wasn't allowed to help us out because there's a dispute that's going on between the HOA and North Star because North Star feels that they're doing all the work. I asked to speak with the manager and was told that they would only be called in the case of an emergency (like a unit burning down). I understand that there are only certain things that can be done particularly over the holiday. Today is July 3rd. But when I said we would just leave early or stay at another hotel--and asked if we could get refunded the nights we haven't stayed yet--they basically said no and that we prepaid already and there's no way to get a refund. This is just unacceptable. It's 80 degrees outside and feels even hotter outside. Im here with my baby and toddler. We didn't feel ready to go camping yet until the baby was older--but honestly... that's just what we should have done. Thought this would be nicer and more manageable with young children but it's just not. Hope we get our money back because it's clear that we can't stay another night here. Update: we got switched to another condo and oh my god. It's like night and day. This one is completely updated and feels even luxurious. I didn't even realize how dingy the last one was until we set foot in here. It finally feels like we're on vacation. I'm glad that northstar was about to find us another spot because we were ready to book a new hotel. I think you really are at the mercy of whatever unit you are assigned. If we could get this unit again we would 100% come back. read more

You are staying in other people's homes here, so they can range from very outdated (I believe they were built in the 70s) to updated and even modern on the inside. Checkin is confusing. Hotels.com needs to make clear instructions on where to check in. It's the first building as you turn into the Northstar property. Very hard to see if you are arriving at night. When we finally figured that out, the check in process was not exactly smooth. The man seemed disinterested in helping us, so he passed us on to a woman who was nice. Their printer or computer was broken so we ended up not signing anything. They did not tell us about the daily "resort fee" which I'll get into later. Our property was actually decent. It had heated floors and a nice kitchen. Overall it was clean. Getting to the village was a pain. Although our condo was pretty close, there is no sidewalk or walkway from the condo to the village. Attempting to walk on the road, especially at night, would be hazardous. The only alternative to driving and not ever finding parking is a shuttle which is pretty inconvenient. The first night I used it I didn't know about the app so I called in and the operator seemed super annoyed. The driver and operator were both in the shuttle that picked me up and I could feel the tension. I apologized (for what I'm not sure) which eased the mood a bit. The $35, what I assume are resort fees after reading other reviews, was charged 2 days after we checked out. I could not get a hold of them since there seems to be no direct line to their front desk. Even hotels.com couldn't contact them. Hotels.com ended up being zero help and I had to dispute the charge with my credit card (who also couldn't get a reply back from them) to get the charge reversed. This charge was a shady sneaky fee that we would have been happy to pay if we were notified by hotels.com before booking and the hotel when checking in. read more

This is for a summer stay. We had to switch places three times in a few days. 1st time couldn't extend our stay. The first place had 2 individual wash cloths for a 6-person condo. The downstairs shower curtain was disgusting. 2nd place we were given the right info, but then told it was the wrong place. We were told we could stay for that night, but had to move to the next place the following day. It's just nuts for the $$ price. read more

This place is disgusting. Spent $4,000 for the week here, and the place was worse than an Econolodge. I will post pictures. There was a giant bug on the wall when we walked in that scared my kids. There was a hole in the ceiling. The furniture was chipped, old, and gross looking. The drapes were disgusting and looked like something out of the 1970s. This is one of the worst places I have ever stayed in...AND...when we showed up, the water was not even on! Really could not be worse, and yet they charged 4 star prices. This is more than just bad. This review is for addy: 6104 Rocky Point Circle. I thought this particular condo was ARIGHT...but it could have been better. The condo was kinda dated with old appliances and bathrooms. It was also carpeted so it had a minor wet-stale stench in the air. You won't notice it after awhile. PROS: -Decent sized rooms. It was 2 bdrm condo with a sofa sleeper. One room with a double bed; the other with 2 twin sized beds and access to the patio. Could fit a total of 6 people. -3 bathrooms - 2 next to the each room and one on the main floor, right across the kitchen. -Washer and Dryer provided. -A basic stocked kitchen. -2 patios; the patio on the main floor had a grill and a beautiful view. Very serene. -2 TVs -accessibility to a large clubhouse that is well kept. Large sized lap pools, smaller kiddie pools, a couple of hot tubs. There is also a gym and a game room. At your disposal for a fee of $2 per person. CONS: - we arrived late Friday night. The condo is difficult to find with hardly any street lights and visible street signage. - when we finally arrived, the owner didn't even bother to turn on the porch light. At least invest in a sensor light if you're too lazy to turn it on for us! -With no light, we couldn't see the padlock to access the house key. We had to use our phones to provide some light. -There is a grate right in front of the door - okay, no light with the possibility of dropping the key right through the grate? That was smart. Additionally, the owner could have updated the electric stove, provided better pots/pans, a sharper knife set. They should also fix one of the shower fixtures that leaked water and would leave a puddle on the floor. The towels were white and some were stained - gross! The shuttle service was a joke - I didn't even see a shuttle? And lastly, the club house was a drive or shuttle away. It was under the impression it was close by - walking distance. First impression is a lasting one - for the price we paid, I expected more. I WOULD AT LEAST expect the porch light to be turned on! Had it been, the ease of entering the condo would have bumped it up to 3 stars. read more

My family and I stayed at one of Northstar's condos. We loved it. The condos are all individually owned, so the decor and quality may vary a bit, but the three that I saw were all pretty nice, clean, and comfortable. They come with different #s of bedrooms & bathrooms. Our condo was stocked with plenty of toiletries, towels, extra bedding/pillows, and a fully stocked kitchen (complete with pots, pans, salt, pepper, coffee, etc... so all we had to buy was cooking oil & food). I believe the condos should come with a washer/dryer too. Water pressure was OK, and most of the time the water was warm enough, except for a slight hiccup of cold water one night when both of our showers were being used at the same time. There is a free shuttle to Northstar Village (where you'll find the gondola to get to the slopes!) with stops that are relatively near your condo. You just give them a call & ~20 min later they'll send a shuttle to the stop that's closest to you. With your condo comes a free parking pass for your car. My main gripe is that the heater in our condo was kind of crazy... it would either be really warm when the heater was blowing, and when it turned off it got pretty cold. Overall, it's a great (albeit slightly pricey) alternative to hotel rooms for people who would like a fully stocked kitchen & more room to hang out with friends/family compared to a hotel. read more

The response initially from the staff was helpful. However the check in process was painful. After reading the check instructions one section instructed to get a paper parking pass. Then I was instructed to register online with a link I never received in my inbox or spam. The front desk staff told me they were having trouble with the system. Due to them having trouble I requested a paper parking pass. They refused. My spouse was sitting in the car with in pain from a ski accident. 15 minutes later they sent me a link to register for parking. I completed it and saved a screenshot that I successfully completed the process. In the morning I received a parking citation warning of potential ticket and towing. I returned to the Northstar front desk to request help. I was told not to worry about it and there was nothing they could do. I requested to speak with manager and they refused saying the manager was available but couldn't do anything. I reiterated my spouse was injured I needed my car more then usual. They again stated nothing they could do with this known ongoing issue. I demanded a paper parking permit. They said ok and issued it reluctantly. This was very unprofessional, lack of empathy. Stay at a motel 6 or super 8. You will get better and more professional service at 1/4 the price. read more

My boyfriend and I booked a stay with North Star Lodging for a wedding in the area last weekend. With it being off season, there wasn't much open in the village, but the front desk staff made sure we had a list of nearby restaurants and bars-which helped us out a ton! Along with the front desk staff, Judy, from North Star lodging, was super sweet! She called to upgrade us to a loft in the village, which worked out great! She also called to check in with us at the end of our stay, wishing us a safe drive home. We received a bottle of wine, a chocolate, a sweet welcome card, and rose petals to welcome us when we arrived to our condo. Thank you for the amazing stay and accommodations! We enjoyed every minute. We will be back!! read more

We had so many issues with Northstar Lodging I'm honestly not sure where to start. 1) Beds were uncomfortable, and not properly blanketed. We asked front desk for more/warmer blankets and they said they didn't have any. We had to have a friend bring more blankets from home when she arrived a day or two after us. 2) The stove was not working when we arrived. Although the maintenance staff came and fixed it promptly, still not sure why checks weren't made that appliances were in working order before we arrived. 3) Worst of all, I left several items of clothing accidentally in one of the drawers in the unit. These were clothes that meant a lot to me and were expensive to replace. After multiple calls starting the day after we checked out (probably at least 6 attempts) to get the staff to retrieve my clothing, they were not able to get them back to me, kept sending me on a wild goose chase to security which yielded nothing and was a waste of my time in addition to my money in losing my clothing. The staff refused to offer any explanation as to what happened to them. 4) Customer service was seriously lacking and overall wasn't a plus to the convenience of being near the mountain. 5) Rugs were dirty and kitchen had zero supplies. No laundry detergent, etc. There was soap and shampoo in the unit, however. Super disappointing, because customer service should be easy for them to implement and would be a great value add. But renter, beware. Lower your expectations if you stay with Northstar lodging! I won't stay there again. read more

Wow, arrived last night to a three bed three bath condo. Ear plugs necessary as place on the road, unit 3010. Wi fi, could not access as instructions do not list which router to choose. As for the TV, no information anywhere but the emergency line was helpful, states gets called for same all the time but guess they do not have someone who can place information on the e mail. No dish soap or laundry soap. Last nigh when called said would bring this am, called at noon said would bring later, called now told if I want it come get it we're too busy. I have stayed in numerous condos throughout NorthStar and have always had a great experience until last night. Checked into unit 4114 Ski Trails and was disgusted to find our sheets covered in black hairs and our comforter covered in seamen. Called housekeeping more 12 hours ago and still have not heard a thing. This unit is poorly maintained and I would avoid. read more

Someone else in our snow trip party booked the Northstar Condos and I didn't look at the reviews until we were up in the mountains; I have to say that the low Yelp reviews made me a bit anxious about our impending stay. However, I made a special mental note to review this lodging after we checked out because I did not at all share any of others' complaints. It was an extremely cozy and comfortable cabin! The luxurious highlight were the heated bathroom floors. The heating system was powerful and it was almost a trip to see the snow swirling and piling up rapidly outside while feeling perfectly toasty warm inside. My only qualm is that the bed was extremely soft, and I think the average person would like more back support. Overall it was a wonderful space for a large group of friends and its proximity to Northstar and Truckee facilitated snow play time! read more

The condo that we were placed in was not in the location that we had originally rented, there were holes in the furniture with stuffing coming out, the carpet was ancient and inexplicably had a plastic matt (think the kind that goes under an office chair) sitting on it, the shower curtains were moldy and the queen bed sagged badly toward the middle. There was 12" to squeak by between the bed and the dresser and the electrical cord for the alarm clock ran across where you were supposed to walk. To top things off, it was over $500/night! The photos on-line were of a much, much nicer unit without holes in the furniture. Talk about a bait and switch! I have stayed at Northstar (not with Northstar Lodging) many times before and always had a great experience. Not this time! Will never rent from this company again. read more

While I agree with many others that the village itself is very nice and family friendly, I really can't recommend staying at the ski trail condos. We spent a few days after Christmas there. The unit we stayed at is very outdated, loose tiles on the floor, rough bed sheets that irritates the skin at night, worn out carpet. Additionally, the bathroom feels like it was done in the 80's. For the entire stay of 4 nights, none of us (2 adults and 2 kids) slept well because the bed was uncomfortable and the fridge was making very loud noise every 5 minutes. On the last night, we even found a large spider and moss on the bedding which makes the last night sleeping experience even worse. For the amount of money we paid, I would expect something cleaner, more updated and comfortable. Northstar should have enforced a consistent set of standards across the condos that they manage. Because of this condition of the unit, I really can't recommend these accommodation to anyone. read more

READ THE FINE PRINT Add 'resort fees' that are not included in your total when you book and pay (you get charged $17.50 the week AFTER your stay, not sure if per night or total as i only stayed 1 night). Also $3 cash PER PERSON PER DAY to use the terrible pool/hot tubs PLUS $1 per towel!! Old condos and you have no choice which one so you might be close to ski trail/ village or might be very far and walking all over the place up and down hills all weekend or waiting an hour for a shuttle you have to book. Pool/hot tub area sucks. You have to walk .5 miles or more depending on your condo, up and down hills, or realistically drive / wait for shuttle you have to call . Y get there to find the gate broken showing a windows desktop and have to call and disturb the high guys that work the pool to let you in. Then they give you tons of $1 and $5 change. The hot tubs have 'adult only' but theres still kids screaming around everywhere running within 5 feet of the adult hot tub to get from their hot tub to the pool. WAAY overpriced for all of this nonsense - plus they lie to you about the price even when you've booked. read more

First experience I've ever had with Northstar lodging and I'm very impressed. We stumbled in because our uber dropped us off here and customer service was great! Shannon was a great help! He got us a shuttle to take us to the village and had a very friendly attitude as he helped us. Will definitely be coming back to stay! read more

Let me be sharp and clear: the price does not mean these condos are nice, just that you have a chance to hit on a better one (or worse one). We just stayed this weekend and i ll say the carpeting was old and uggh-y, there were (other people's) hairs in the tub, the shower was weak and leaky, the shower curtain moldy, the wicker chairs stained (what with?)' the water heater overwhelmed after 2 consecutive showers... I m not saying skiing is not fun, but i did feel like we overpaid for this. read more

I traveled alone to Northstar, and stayed at one of he studio condos. I could not get the TV to work and called the Lodging Reception desk. I spoke to "Billy". He tried to get maintenance to the room but they had left for the day. Billy was trying to help me problem solve the TV with no luck. He informed me I had to wait till morning. I became very upset. Because I was alone, I really didn't want to settle in without a TV. I became very upset, and raising my voice. I have to commend Billy. He remained calm and even-toned throughout the many calls from me to the front desk. In the end Billy arranged for me to move to another room. He went above and beyond, and remained professional. The Northstar resort itself is pretty nice, with nice shops, restaurants, ski lift, ice-skating rink, etc... The shuttle service was good and the drivers were nice. However, the condo we stayed in was a Meh.... The bedrooms were extremely small, the heater was crazy, it was either cold or we could not breath of the heat. Furthermore, we told them there were seven people staying, but they only had sheets for two beds. The beds were very uncomfortable. Somehow, this time, we forgot our shampoo, cream, etc... Whatever the Northstar provided was not worth the money we paid. The toilet paper and paper-towels were the worst quality you can get. Really??? For more than $400/night??? Again, I think it was absolutely overpriced. If I paid for the rooms like in a motel, I would probably give more stars, but it felt like a rip-off. read more

Those condos are so overpriced. Very outdated worn out and not well clean. When we got in the condo we felt like in 1980. Carpet was dirty and all the tiles on the floor were moving. Staff is so disorganized and uniformed and if you need info just research online cause nobody will give you straight answer. The check in is at 4 pm and if you want to rent ski equipment to be ready for the next day (not to waste 40-60 min) the renting location is closing at 4:30pm its almost impossible to make it. Not to mention that they making you go for one location for tickets than go back to another location to rent its ridiculous. read more

The condo at 3136 Aspen Grove is NOT a good one! If you have any choice at all, avoid it. Almost everything doesn't work. We had 5 service calls, which were responded to, and items fixed. However, there were SO many other repairs, that we finally gave up. The owners of this unit should pull it from the Northstar Program until they can replace almost everything! The refrigerator spoiled all of our food! The owners only left one closet for guests, and locked all the others so there was no where to hang clothes (and this was the least offensive). There was semen on the comforter -- we called housekeeping to remove it... gross! My recommendation is to stay at the Ritz up on the Mountain, enjoy the snow, and leave the dated, tired, condos behind. read more

I stayed in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom condo. The condo's are about 30 years old, but they are well kept and very clean. The wood burning fireplace was a really nice touch, kept the upstairs really warm. For the price that I paid I thought it was really worth it. We had 4 people, 1 bedroom had a kind bed and the other bedroom had 2 twin beds, but they supplied extra sheets and bedding. You could easily fit 6 people in the condo comfortably. Would not recommend the condos for the price. We stayed the week after Christmas and paid over $500 a night for poor accommodations in condo 3032. All 3 beds are very old and the mattresses sag and squeak if there is any movement. The carpet has stains all over and looks like it is from the 80s. The water tank can only accommodate one 10 min shower without the water turning cold and the bathroom is falling apart. The heating system is ancient and does not work properly. The sheets are poor quality and have stains. On the plus side, the location is great and close to the village and the Northstar Lodging front desk is responsive. The top floor layout is nice and the kitchen and living area are decent. But for the $- look elsewhere unless you do not care about the quality of the bedrooms and bathroom. read more

Cute condo and the one we stayed at had a really nice location by The Village. However, there were bugs everywhere inside our condo! I personally killed three flies and two enormous ants. There were also a few other ants, flies and a spider that were unharmed. I mean I get it's in the middle of the forest, but for the amount of money we paid to stay there, I wasn't expecting to battle bugs inside. There also wasn't a sign to put up outside our door to not be bothered, so we had surprise housecleaning who opened the door without warning. They apologized and were really sweet though. Overall, it was just ok. The pricing is not worth what you get though. read more
