Went in with a basically new vehicle for inspection(forced by the state). Instead of just inspecting it and putting a sticker on it they sliced one of my wiper blades and replaced them with a very expensive pair from their shop. They did not call me about this or tell me about this they just did it and put it on the bill. When they did call me all they said was the trucks all set and I went to pick it up. This is a classic garage scam move to attempt to make a few extra bucks on inspection. I thought Northups was better than this but I guess I was wrong. Most people just go along with this scam and pay it to keep the peace. I did not. If you are going there for inspection, make sure you check your vehicle thoroughly before you bring it there. They came on behalf of a dead battery. This was expressed thrombin AAA who sent them. They came 3 hours later and verified the battery was dead and left. I was on vacation with my granddaughter in the Point Judith area when I sprung a leak in my power steering line. I was visiting from out of state. I called AAA for a couple of references but one was a local Ford dealer who told me they were backed up for two to three weeks. The other reference given was 20 miles away. I cannot recommend this shop enough for your car servicing needs. Professional, timely, and unlike other shops, not in it to rip off unknowing customers. In October, my car (only 5 years old) overheated and died. AAA towing recommended this shop and they spent several days trying to detect the issue, but said that the car was fine and let me go, free of charge. Confused, I brought it to the Chevy dealer who wanted $700+ to replace the pump, stating it would continue to overheat if not replaced. I did not replace the pump, and have had no overheating issues since then (3.5 months ago). Northup was right about my car while other shops tried to take advantage of the situation. Fast forward to January when I was driving and service engine warnings flashed across my dashboard. Again, I brought my car to Northup where they couldn't find anything wrong with the car, and let me go AGAIN free of charge. My car has been running fine (I think the issues have been random electrical glitches) and I am so grateful for the honesty and integrity of Northup shop. Northup's is just the best! My brother told me to go nowhere else, for my car inspection and he was sooo right! Here's the drill: Go in and make an appointment with "Tammy" at the front desk. They are BUSY, so it might take a week or so until they can fit you in, but when they say 9am on such an such a day, they mean 9am. You will not be hanging around for long (or they will advise you to leave the car). No frills, so bring your own coffee, book, or cell, but they work on a pretty darned good timeline. "Matt" Fiske carefully shows you what work needs to be done (if anything needs to be done) and I trusted him immediately. Being the "thrifty" Yankee woman that I am, I checked around at his estimates and Northup's was more than fair. After evacuating Fl for hurricane Irma my fuel pump went out and had to get a tow. Lou showed up with and towed us to local garage. Upon arriving to the garage they said they couldn't fix our van and Lou the tow truck driver said he would make some calls and Northups Service center cleared an bay for us and got the fuel pump replaced in a few hrs and got us back on the road! Just moved to the state with a brand new car. After getting the car registered, I knew I had to get it inspected. I took it to here to get it inspected however, I did not know that I didn't need to get it inspected until after a certain amount of mileage since it was brand new. They did the inspection even though I did not need it. I'm use to a courtesy call from mechanics to tell me if something needs to be done or not. When I went to pick up my car, the guy checking me out told me I didn't need to get it done...so why did you do it?! So I payed for an inspection that did not need to be done for at least another year. I will never return. There are so many other places to go within less than 1/4 mile. read more

I left a vehicle to be repaired and it was.... a few days later. Big job ..hundreds of dollars. After paying for it and getting home I noticed 4 fresh scratches on the center of the hood that are approx. 1 foot long. It's nothing that can't be fixed. These guys were great! The other night my wheel locked up when I was visiting a friend in Narragansett and the car was undriveable. The insurance company said I would have to get it towed and I asked them to send someone out instead just to check the problem and see if a tow was necessary. They sent out a tow crew anyways for some reason but the driver (Willy I think his name was), was very helpful and cool about being called out for a tow I didn't need. He looked at my car and quickly determined I needed to replace the brake pads, something I would be able to do myself. He gave me some advice on what tools and supplies I would need as well. He saved me A LOT of money with his honesty and I appreciate that they didn't take advantage of someone who's not experienced with cars. Thanks guys! read more

These guys did me right! I dropped off my Jeep on a Friday morning in July when they already had a full schedule of vehicles ahead of me. I explained how I needed my Jeep for the weekend and it was my only vehicle but also told them I understood if it was not possible. I received a call at 4pm that day telling me my Jeep was fixed! I arrived to pickup my Jeep just after closing and was told that the owner himself worked on the Jeep for me so that I would have it in time. The work was quality and the charges were reasonable. I have a commercial van of that is 24 years old. They ...the service dept at Northups ....have bailed me out on several occasions when it was time sensitive and did it with minimal cost. Great guys....they cannot do everything ...and they tell you when they can't...but for most stuff they are cheap and reasonably quick. They get my vote. read more

Northup's just totally ripped us off. We explained our emergency situation to them and they sent out someone who is not only unqualified to handle it but was completely rude. It would not have been so bad if the employee had he carried himself WAY more professional and called on someone more qualified once he ADMITTED he did not know what to do.
