I used to be pretty snobby about where I took my cars for oil changes. I would only take it to a dealer shop through whichever car brand I currently owned but then I realized that the time and the money that it took really didn't result in any better service than if I had gone to a smaller store or location. After calling around the island over the summer, I found Johnny's Getty. They were able to get me in the same day to do my oil change and the price was excellent. This year, I remembered how great my service was, how prompt the oil change was, and the excellent and competitive price, so I booked another oil change with them. I sat in their waiting area which was definitely a no-frills kind of seating, but the guys behind the counter were really nice and I was in and out before I could even get comfortable. The location is easy to access right off of West main road, and you can't beat the price and the promptness of the team that works here. I definitely will continue to bring my cars here for their oil changes and I'm glad that Johnny's Getty is here to offer these services so that residents of aquidneck don't have to leave the island to keep their cars in good shape. read more

This is the absolute best service station I've ever been to. We were on a road trip and were scared that our oil was leaking. Our Airbnb host suggested that we stop by Johnny's because they have the "best service in town." We called ahead because they were closing within the hour, but they happily told us to stop by anyways and they'd check it out. The SECOND we arrived, they had us pull right up to be serviced and were under the car within a minute. My husband remarked that he'd never been helped at a car place so quickly. They waved us in to come look at our car and showed us how to know if it's leaking oil. They showed us that it was just water dripping from the bottom of our car and how to know where to look to ensure your car is good to go. After we thanked them, they told us there was no charge and wouldn't take any money we tried to give them. They were so quick, efficient, educational and clearly care about their business. Pros: They allowed me to source certain parts needed for inspection and I love Maralee who works the front desk. Cons: They gave me the car back with the original engine failure issue but claimed it was fixed even though the car died in their possession upon testing, but told me it was fixed despite them having done nothing else to try to troubleshoot or fix the problem after having had the car for over a week. I dropped it off asking them to fix the cold start issue and when I got the car back and tried to start today, the car was as bad as before dropping it off. It died almost immediately. When I dropped it off I told them the car died every cold start and runs rich, and when I read the bill, they claimed it was an "intermittent issue" that still "might be intermittent". Not true. I told them what had been happening for the last month and it's not an intermittent issue and it always has been running rich and dying on cold starts but they didn't give me any time when I wanted to discuss further diagnostics instead of picking up my broken car as is for a hefty bill. Very disappointing first impression. I will not be a returning customer. read more

But I explained I was from out of town and couldn't stay the night because I had surgery in the morning. So they said go next door to johnnys and they could help me. By am I glad I found Johnnys. We were in town for Navy commissioning ceremony and stuck with a very low tire on the rental. The service station Hertz referred us to said they were too busy and we'd have to leave the van. So good. Chris removed the screw from my tire in 10 minutes for only $15. Yes I gave him a good tip. Town Fair could. It patch my tire and would order a new tire for $400 and install a week from now. Seems like Town Fair does not pay good wages and only a few workers that show up for work an hour + late. Waiting times on the TF electronic board were 2 hours,2 hours 43 minutes and another for 2 hours with only 4 people waiting!!!! Don't go to TF. Actually Johnny's had 4? Or more workers in the service bays. Gas price was same as my local Shell station. read more

THESE GUYS REALLY HELPED US OUT ON OUR ROAD TRIP! We had (what we thought was) an emergency oil leak while driving into Rhode Island. It was already late in the evening and we gave the Jiffy Lube a call down the road a call who didn't seem bothered in helping us at all and seemed absolutely clueless on the phone. Luckily our Air BnB host lead us to these guys who were incredibly helpful. We pulled straight in and within 5 minutes they had the car up and a couple of guys were checking it. They bought us in to look at the car and explained to us that it was nothing to worry about and it was just the A/C unit dripping water which was normal. They treated us with nothing but respect, I cannot speak more highly of them. They didn't charge us anything and when we tried to tip they would not accept it. Lovely guys! Why can't there be more establishments like this all over? If I lived in the area, this would be my go to spot for car services. read more

We were visiting from out of town when the "check engine " light came on. I called a couple of highly rated garages in Middletown. They were fully booked, but they both recommended taking the car to Johnny's. I called Johnny's and the manager said to bring the car in and they would look at the error code to find out whether it was a serious problem or not. I drove over and they looked at it immediately. I had to take my car in for my mother, who had already taken it in twice 'knocking'. After two attempted fixes in 3 weeks, the knocking persisted, and $850+ later, she asked if I would take care of the third visit. (my mother is a 75 year old woman who has been loyal to Getty Middletown for years...unfort. due to recent changes/losses, and after this experience, I cannot return) I spoke with the manager: Andrew, and explained my dismay regarding my mother's attempts at having her car serviced and fixed here at Getty, as she goes nowhere else. He knew her well. After a test drive AND a scheduled, proper, under the hood assessment, he claimed the OTHER ABS/wheel bearing unit needed replacement. He had thought it was the break pads and rotors the first time ($400), then the second time he changed her other wheel bearings ($440). This time, he said he'd give us a 'deal'. Ok, i thought, as my mom really trusts these guys. Finally he said he would do the job for $425! I was shocked by his price as well as the ridiculous 'deal', given his first two 'guesses' were WRONG and expensive. I kept my calm and said we'd have to think about it. I just didn't feel good about this guy's assessment. He seemed quite inexperienced and his guesses were WRONG before, I had no guarantees. I decided to call my sister's mechanic two towns over. Their estimate was $292 for the SAME exact job!!! (not 425). Getty's guess work has been too costly and his indifference to loyal customers (vulnerable older ladies) has altered the reputation Getty once had in my book. BUT, my mom still wants to go to them, she is loyal! Too loyal as she really loved the Getty Senior... --------------------------------- UPDATE: My second mechanic told me it was the wheel bearing, the one which was already replaced (here). I called Getty to tell them what my sister's mechanic assessed and to make an appt. to bring it back to HIM. I will see if they replace a "bad part" or what he says. I will update this review next week...I honestly hope to write a better outcome by then.... 2nd UPDATE (9/19): I brought car back into Getty's today, a week and a half later. They looked at it and stuck with the same diagnosis: the other wheel bearing unit($425). I still had my sister's guy who'd do either side for $292 but at this point didn't know who was right-why did is take Getty 3 times to finally get to the root of the problem and $850 later??? Final outcome. I went to mechanic my uncle recommended down the street. They confirmed Getty's 3rd guess. So Getty's/Andrew was in fact correct, the THIRD time. This mechanic down the street gave me a quote of $329. At $100 savings and a much much MUCH clearer explanation of where the noise was coming from and a guarantee that the car would not knock after their repair -something never assured to us by Andrew at Getty. I don't know if brakes and rotors or the OTHER Wheel bearing needed replacement. But Getty got the money for that, however, he never fixed the "knocking" which was why we brought in the vehicle in the first place, nor did he think that was a problem. read more

Johnny's has an excellent reputation locally and in my experience it is well deserved.

Had some service done on the ol' jalopy in March and I'm pleased that things went well. Wasn't a major service (changed the fuel filter due to worsening gas mileage), but it was still service. If only the receptionist would have called the number I left at dropoff (which was confirmed in person) when the vehicle was done, things would have been even better. Johnny (the owner) seems to always be there, which is a good sign in my book. This place takes reservations for a set number of cars per day. Drop off in morning & they call (sometime after 1300) when your ride is ready. Looks like they do most any service. Team of attendants are always in motion. No courtesy shuttle, but there is a Dunkin Donuts is across the street if you need to wait. read more

My son and I were visiting the area and had trouble with a tire. The owner of the motel we were staying at told me that he'd been going to this service station for many years, and that it was a family business for 3 generations. He sent us there, and Andrew (3rd generation) couldn't have been more helpful and nice! He said I didn't need a new tire, and he went over that tire and the others with a fine tooth comb. He discussed with me why it probably lost air, put a new valve stem on it, and charged a very nominal amount. I appreciated his thoughtfulness to find the issue. Just so happen through his research the car didn't need to be fixed at this moment. There have been so many instances where Johnny saved us big bucks by doing service on our cars for which the dealerships would have been charging at least twice as much. AND just like the previous reviewers, I had a problem with my car RIGHT before a huge road trip, called Johnny and he told me to come over immediately. He road tested the car, saw that it was a loose AC belt, opened the hood, tightened the closed the hood and when I asked him what the cost was, he told me the was none.
