Fish Tacos and a small side of fries
    Ron B.

Came for a quick bite and was warmly greeted by the staff. A quaint nautically decorated interior with adjacent bar named the South Jetty Dining Room and Bar. We had the Fish Tacos and a small side of fries. The tacos had fried fish but it was lightly battered and the cod (recommended) was excellent. The small fries was plenty for us. Certainly worth a visit and would return.

We had a hankering for fish and chips during our anniversary trip to the PNW, and The FishMongers came highly rated. There is absolutely no seating indoors, and the outdoor seating is minimal. We made sure to get there early enough so we could snag a table. The staff were super friendly and efficient with taking our order and getting the food out. I went with the rockfish, and my husband went with the shrimp. We paid cash so we were able to each get a free drink. I was not expecting my rockfish filet to be so massive. It was breaded perfectly. The meat inside was steaming and super juicy. The fries were also the right amount of crisp, and piping hot. The coleslaw was refreshing, and the tartar sauce was delicious. The shrimp my husband had was also perfectly breaded and the cocktail sauce that came with it was delicious. For seafood, this place was super affordable, especially with such huge portions. Btw, there was a sign on their door stating that The FishMongers needs help with moving. They are hoping to relocate but cannot do this on their own. The small building that they are currently in is being sold, and after taking a huge hit from Covid, the staff really needs your assistance to relocate. Take a look at their GoFundMe story and help them out if you are able! I sincerely wish them the best and I truly hope to be able to enjoy more fish and chips from The FishMongers the next time we visit OR.

Ordered the sampler platter and I was blown away by how much food I got. Super fresh fish. Quality was top notch. Customer service was amazing too. This is a gem. I will definitely come back.

The bag-o-fish for only $5 is unbelievably good. No WONDER this place has such good ratings! A tiny little fish shop with great service, great food, great outdoor seating. Will be back!!!

I have been wanting to try Fishmongers in Hammond OR for a long time, based on all the good things I had heard. I finally made it in one cold, rainy PNW day...and they weren't packed, like all the other times I had driven by and opted not to wait. This little joint did NOT disappoint!! I chose their sampler which included a piece of all the fish they offer. Tuna, salmon, cod, rockfish, fries and some slaw. Truly the BEST fried fish in the area! Numero Uno!! The batter is crispy and light. So crunchy, and not dripping in grease! I think the cod and rockfish were my favorites, but the tuna was also good. I'm not a fan of fried salmon, but that's my tastebuds. That had nothing to do with the quality of the fish or cook. I just like my salmon grilled or baked. (My husband liked it.)The fries were also fried to perfection. If I had a complaint it would be the food isn't seasoned much. But, I kind of like that cause it allows the customer to salt it as liberally or minimally as they want. A good thing for those watching their sodium. Just make sure to ask for a salt packet if you like salt. The slaw is a savory, vinegary kind, not the sweet stuff you get at KFC. On top of the delicious fish, the fellows cooking are truly sweethearts. Very nice, and informative when this nosy customer was asking questions about their establishment. It was a slow day so they had time to engage in a nice conversation. The portion of food was perfect for a big appetite, too. I wanted to eat it all, but honestly could not....which made my husband happy when I surprised him with the equivalent of 2.5 pieces of fried fish and fries when I got home. (I tied all the fish and left portions for the spouse! lol!) It reheated well in the air fryer and he now wants to try this place the next time we're in the area together. There is outdoor seating. Nothing fancy. Some picnic tables under an awning. It was too cold and wet for me to take advantage of the area, so I consumed the goods in my car. Do not overlook this little gem of a dive. Truly. The BEST fish and chips in town

The indoor seating is in an old greenhouse, which gives the whole place a quirky, laid-back coastal feel. Best of all, they're dog friendly! Sassy was welcome, which is always a huge plus for us when we're traveling. Great seafood, friendly atmosphere, casual vibe, and a cool setting. Definitely worth stopping if you're in the area and looking for a relaxed, dog-friendly place to grab some fish and chips. We'll be back!

The French fries (aka British for chips) in my Fried Scallop Full Order basket were cooked just right & plentiful. The scallops were plump and mouth watering! Fresh Coleslaw tasted like it was made that day too. My lunch time desire for seafood made me order a cup of their creamy Clam chowder. Every spoon full had a piece of yummy clam and potatoes were cooked perfectly as well. Because we had driven leisurely to Astoria from Portland Oregon, my appetite was huge. So I ordered their Onion Rings and they were fried to perfection. The order taker, food runners and any staff we encountered, were super courteous and attentive to our requests & first time dining questions. The outdoor setting is massive, fully covered for many tables and super clean. Am so looking forward to returning very soon to Ship Out Fish & Chips to eat their delectable seafood

South Bay Wild Fish House absolutely knocked it out of the park…read more I had the clam chowder followed by the lingcod fish and chips, and both were outstanding. The chowder was rich, flavorful, and loaded with clams without being overly heavy. The lingcod was fresh, perfectly cooked, and had that light, crisp batter you want on fish and chips -- not greasy, not buried in breading, just damn good fish. My wife had the fresh Dungeness crab fry bread with chimichurri sauce, and that may have stolen the show. The crab was incredibly fresh and sweet, the fry bread was fantastic, and the chimichurri added just enough brightness and flavor without overpowering the crab. What really stood out, though, was talking with the owner. He told us how much pride he takes in catching the seafood he serves, and you can absolutely taste that pride in the food. He was also genuinely great to talk with -- friendly, down-to-earth, and clearly passionate about what he does. There's something special about eating seafood at a place where the person serving it actually knows where it came from and has a hand in bringing it to the table. That kind of connection and pride is getting harder to find. Great food, fresh seafood, and great people. South Bay Wild Fish House is absolutely worth the stop, and we'll definitely be back.

The decor is eclectic, but really cute - there's plenty of seating, they even have an upstairs. We started with the chowder, which was more soupy than I was expecting, like not thick at all. However, it had really good flavor and was packed full of potatoes and clams. I probably wouldn't get it again though because I prefer a thick chowder. My mom got the fish tacos and really enjoyed them. I eat a lot of fish tacos and I think I prefer mine fried, but these were heaping full and a big portion. The rest of us got the rockfish and chips. The fish was tender, fresh, and delicious. I really liked the breading, it was crispy and thick, but it did fall apart super easily. These are definitely delicate. The fries were big and well seasoned. I also liked their tartar sauce a lot and they had every sauce imaginable on the table. The staff was friendly, the food was solid, and the portion sizes were big.
