I was staying in Astoria, looking for a good fish and chips, and I found this place. it's only about 10 minutes from Astoria, not far at all. The place was clean, and everybody was friendly. Half of the place is the bar, half of the place is the restaurant. They even have a small gift shop in the corner of the restaurant. When you first walk in, you check in with the bartender, and then you just find a seat in the restaurant. I was served quickly. I decided to go for a cup of the smoked clam chowder, and the rockfish fish and chips. You have several different choices of what kind of fish you want for your fish and chips. They also have a good choice of other items on the menu Once I put in my order, the food comes quickly. The clam chowder was amazing. The smokiness of the clams Comes over into the soup. It was a smoky flavor, but it did not overwhelm the soup. It complimented it very well. There was a very generous portion of the clams and other ingredients. Dear Lord, I couldn't believe the size of that platter of fish and chips. Two giant pieces of rockfish, a very generous portion of fries, and a coleslaw. You also get ketchup for your fries, and a very delicious tartar sauce. I liked the coleslaw. It was not overdressed, and had just a little bit of a peppery bite. The pepper did not overwhelm the coleslaw. The fish was not overly battered, and not greasy at all. The fish was flaky and rich. The fries had just a littlle bit of a crisp on the outside, and were perfectly tender on the inside. The entire meal was amazing. It was so big, I brought one of the pieces of rockfish and about half of my fries back to my motel for breakfast the next morning. It heated up perfectly in the microwave and was just as good the following morning. For all I got, the price was extremely reasonable, and they also do a military/veterans discount. Tonight I had a serious hankering for fish and chips, so I stopped at FishMongers in Warrenton--and they absolutely did not disappoint! I walked in about 10 minutes before closing and offered to take my food to go, but my server told me that while the kitchen was closing, I was still welcome to eat in the dining room since the bar would remain open. I didn't catch her name, but she was "awesome possum"--cute, short, energetic, and full of the kind of fun, friendly banter you would expect from Flo at a classic diner. She made the whole experience even better. I ordered the FishMonger fish and chips platter, which came with two pieces of tuna, plus cod, rockfish, and salmon. It was an incredible amount of food for only $24! The batter was perfectly crunchy and flavorful, the fish tasted fresh, and the portions were very generous. I barely managed to finish it, but I persevered--mostly by sacrificing the fries! The only slightly confusing part was finding the restaurant. Some of the reviews made it sound like a standalone location, but FishMongers is actually located inside the South Jetty dining room and bar. Once I found it, though, I loved the atmosphere. They used to have a different location but are now in the back room of a pub. Kids can only sit in this section. It was very fish themed with the decor. Some people were sharing tables as it was a smaller space. The food was very good and the shrimp were HUGE! We could hardly eat all the food we got and there were 5 of us. Order less than you think you need. Only complaint was service was quite slow and we spent more time than we wanted at the restaurant so not a quick stop between beaches. read more

Came for a quick bite and was warmly greeted by the staff. A quaint nautically decorated interior with adjacent bar named the South Jetty Dining Room and Bar. We had the Fish Tacos and a small side of fries. The tacos had fried fish but it was lightly battered and the cod (recommended) was excellent. The small fries was plenty for us. We had a hankering for fish and chips during our anniversary trip to the PNW, and The FishMongers came highly rated. There is absolutely no seating indoors, and the outdoor seating is minimal. We made sure to get there early enough so we could snag a table. The staff were super friendly and efficient with taking our order and getting the food out. I went with the rockfish, and my husband went with the shrimp. We paid cash so we were able to each get a free drink. I was not expecting my rockfish filet to be so massive. It was breaded perfectly. The meat inside was steaming and super juicy. The fries were also the right amount of crisp, and piping hot. The coleslaw was refreshing, and the tartar sauce was delicious. The shrimp my husband had was also perfectly breaded and the cocktail sauce that came with it was delicious. For seafood, this place was super affordable, especially with such huge portions. Btw, there was a sign on their door stating that The FishMongers needs help with moving. They are hoping to relocate but cannot do this on their own. The small building that they are currently in is being sold, and after taking a huge hit from Covid, the staff really needs your assistance to relocate. Cute little roadside seafood shack. No inside seating. Covered and open seating out front. Service is quick and friendly. Limited menu of fried seafood and a few other things like seafood tacos. The portions are ridiculously large. How they do it for the quality and price point I have no idea, and I'm sure not complaining. It took me three meals to get through my tuna and chips, which included NINE good size pieces of tuna and a heaping amount of fries. The tuna was awesome, the crinkle fries pretty standard. Nice cozy place with comfy chairs. They have a great selection of diet beverages! Had the cod sandwich. Comes loaded with tartar sauce which isn't my favorite so it was just okay. I have been wanting to try Fishmongers in Hammond OR for a long time, based on all the good things I had heard. I finally made it in one cold, rainy PNW day...and they weren't packed, like all the other times I had driven by and opted not to wait. This little joint did NOT disappoint!! I chose their sampler which included a piece of all the fish they offer. Tuna, salmon, cod, rockfish, fries and some slaw. Truly the BEST fried fish in the area! Numero Uno!! The batter is crispy and light. So crunchy, and not dripping in grease! I think the cod and rockfish were my favorites, but the tuna was also good. I'm not a fan of fried salmon, but that's my tastebuds. That had nothing to do with the quality of the fish or cook. I just like my salmon grilled or baked. (My husband liked it.)The fries were also fried to perfection. If I had a complaint it would be the food isn't seasoned much. But, I kind of like that cause it allows the customer to salt it as liberally or minimally as they want. A good thing for those watching their sodium. Just make sure to ask for a salt packet if you like salt. The slaw is a savory, vinegary kind, not the sweet stuff you get at KFC. On top of the delicious fish, the fellows cooking are truly sweethearts. Very nice, and informative when this nosy customer was asking questions about their establishment. It was a slow day so they had time to engage in a nice conversation. The portion of food was perfect for a big appetite, too. I wanted to eat it all, but honestly could not....which made my husband happy when I surprised him with the equivalent of 2.5 pieces of fried fish and fries when I got home. (I tied all the fish and left portions for the spouse! lol!) It reheated well in the air fryer and he now wants to try this place the next time we're in the area together. There is outdoor seating. Got the bag of fish for $5 which was 6 small pieces of cod and tartare sauce. Loved the tartar sauce since it was very creamy. Freshly fried cod batter was light and fluffy and very crispy, comparable to tempura but a bit heavier. Was decently stuffed and found no need to get fries with it.
