Don't take your car to get smogged or anything here. Brought them my 84 Porsche to get smogged after them telling me to come back 3 times. They told me to come back Saturday, which I did. Then they tried to tell me to come back again and I told them this was the 4th time they've told me to come back, they're doing it. Brian was very helpful in diagnosing the problem with my car. I had hit some debris on the freeway and after parking it, my car wouldn't start. We figured the problem was whatever I hit on the freeway, but it turns out it was completely unrelated and turned out to just be a dead battery in my key which triggered some sort of lock down in my car's computer, rendering my car frozen. Tons of sleuthing required to figure out that mystery, but they got it, and within a reasonable time and for a reasonable fee. read more

They deserve zero stars for being CROOKS. I watched them work on my car and they didn't do half of the things that were written on the invoice. I've been coming here for years (my family and I) and we've always trusted them. Just recently I brought my car in to get the oil changed and the tires rotated (all was explicitly printed on the invoice). Instead of leaving I decided to watch them. They didn't realize that I was still in the area. I watched them NOT rotate the tires as stated. When I went to pick up my car and confronted them on this, the mechanic sheepishly admitted to not doing it, and was not very apologetic about it. The cashier was a little more apologetic but for blatantly robbing me, a weak apology is not going to go too far. They really needed to up the ante if they want my business especially after being caught red-handed for being thieves/crooks. Needless to say, I will never bring my car back here again. It would be a little more understandable if the mechanic read the work order incorrectly or if he forgot - but he was well aware that he got caught deliberately cheating the customer. I live down the street and have taken my 3 vehicles there to be repaired many times over the last several years. They usually are competent at fixing things but they charge way too much. I just took my 4runner there a couple days ago and told them the engine is loosing power, I think the spark plugs need to be replaced. Steve (the owner) then called me later and told me it would be $55 for the to change the plugs including plugs. I said ok and then stopped in to pick it up and saw the bill was $155. Maybe I heard them wrong. I told Steve that I can't pay $155 for you to change the plugs on my car. I told him that it should have taken him 30 minutes and maybe $20 for the plugs which I expected to be around $60. After some negotiating he lowered it to $111 by "removing the diagnostic fee of $45. I then asked for my AAA discount and he refused. He told me that their billable rate was $89/hr. He showed me that the computer shows that it should take .8 hrs to do the job. If this is correct and the diagnosis was that easy, I would expect to pay $91.20 including the parts. Instead they initially charged me $155. They just lost a good customer because they tried to rip me off. I could have installed the spark plugs myself but just didn't have the time. I expect to pay people for their work but being overcharged becomes an ethical problem where I can no longer trust them. Now I wonder how much I was overcharged in the last 3 years as I've spent a over $2000 there on various repairs. read more

Buy gas here, but don't get your vehicle serviced here. The staff is rude. I've brought my car here more times than I should purely for convenience. Unfortunately, I've yet to have a solid good experience. I paid for a tuneup and many items on the checklist were marked checked, but not actually completed. I've had to bring my car back to have them fix something they broke during a "repair". I've lost complete confidence in this shop. read more

What a waste of time. They are supposed to be open and they are closed. The machines are having difficulty reading the credit card. It says see a cashier and there is no one here. It's the middle of the day and the sun is up and these are business hours. Multiple customers have already come and left and no one has gotten back in 10 minutes and the places is deserted. I will never come back here again. What a disaster. This has put me in an absolutely terrible position and I will take my gas purchasing business elsewhere and never return here read more

I have been a Volvo Tech for 10 years now. Came into the "76 Station" for a simple oil change, and balance of the tires. I asked if the Tech could put the weights on the inside of my mags (wheels) The service tech said "Oh ya, Oh ya, no problem" we can do that for you! The tech left the old weights on, and then just added more weights on to my rims. Not only that, but they were for Metal wheels. The guy missed the weight with his hammer and actually hit 2 rims (and center caps) while trying to forse them on. I went back to see if they could do them the right way, but only got a line of crap from the Service Tech. IF THEY CANT BALANCE TIRES RIGHT, AMAGINE WHAT THEIR DOING TO YOUR CAR. read more

I'm not sure if the gentleman who answers phones either doesn't understand what people are asking, or if he's lying/too lazy to check on someone's request. Let's just say that if you think you left behind a credit card, don't call to check if someone turned it in. Actually go in and talk to a different gentleman who works behind the counter, because you'll find that, yes, they do have a "lost and found" collection. I called first and thought it was unusual that the person had no idea what I was talking about. A day later I actually went in and went through a pile of cards with a different associate, so I wasn't sure why the guy on the phone said it definitely wasn't there. It's not like I described the card, and mine didn't happen to be there. I just said I was missing my card, and he told me that there were no cards. Wrong, they had a whole pile of them! Then, just out of curiosity, I called again on day 3 to see if it turned up, and the gentleman on the phone told me no, they didn't have anything near the registers. They are unfailingly professional, but still maintain the feeling and vibe of a trusted local neighborhood station. They are a first-come-first-served operation. Recently when I went in for a headlight bulb replacement, they did not have the right bulb, but they pulled what I needed from my car and directed me to where I could get the part. When I returned with the part, they installed it for me for a very reasonable fee, which is the kind of neighborhood service that you can expect from them. Northwood 76 is a great place to take your car for service, and it is a great asset to our neighborhood. read more
