If i could give this place no stars I would. I've been using them for two years and have never had a problem until today. They completely ruined my designer linen pants. The pants can not be fixed and can not be worn again. When i dropped off the pants they had a small red stain on the back that was fruit (shown in photos). The woman at the counter marked the stain with her sticky note. I just went to pick up the pants and they are completely botched even the hemming on the bottom is unraveling which they shouldn't have touched. The pants are also covered in white blotches. They told me i brought them in like this but i absolutely did not. The woman's excuse was the the other woman who was working at the time of the drop off was old and does not remember and it's her word against mine. I stood there for about 10 minutes pleading for a solution and insuring them over and over again that this is not how i brought the pants in and told them the pink stain is now gone which means they did work on the pants. They claimed they didn't touch them which is impossible. After ahwile they started ignoring me and told me to leave and come back in 4 days. read more

Really wanted to love this place as the lady upfront was super sweet, reminded me of my mom! Timing: It's about a 3-4 day turn around. Dropped it off Friday afternoon and wouldn't be ready until about Monday after 2pm. Came in Monday around 4:30 and it wasn't ready until about closer to 5, which timing wise wasn't a big deal for me at all. Even having to come back twice wasn't a big deal. Cleanliness: The disappointment was honestly in the cleanliness of the job, kinda felt rushed especially with the stains left on it. From the looks, the marks seem to be from like metal or a quick brush up against something. I took my new coat (6months old) to Northwood Cleaners to get clean without ruining it. When I picked up my coat I knew before taking it off the hanger it was messed up. I tried it on and the collar was two inches shorter, as were the sleeves. The lining inside was hanging over the bottom (third photo). I was very unhappy and took it back. I was told that they would send it out to try to stretch it. I went back after a week and as seen in the second photo, it was not right at all. As unhappy as I was with the service, how they handled my complaint was even worse. This coat is not even a year old and it's so ruined, I'll have to purchase a new one. The owner accepted no responsibility and would offer no compensation. I wasn't even offered a refund for the poor service. Do NOT take your items here, especially ones you love. read more

Updated review - the owner had called personally to address the issue. She had offered a credit to make up for the zipper and also tried to find out the issue with the zipper from the person that had did the alterations. This place is really reliable with my clothes. They offer dry cleaning but also do simple laundering/pressing. They also do alterations and simple repairs like buttons and small patching. I have even taken my comforter here recently which my dog threw up on, and they were able to get the stain and the smell out. They have even done some shoe repairs. I had the heel repaired on one of my boots and they were done very well. The turn around time is fair and usually back within a week but they also do sooner dry cleaning. I definitely trust this place with all my clothes laundering and dry cleaning needs. read more

I was visiting Chicago and needed a same day cleaning service or the day after. I called around and eventually found Northwood. I called and asked if they offer same day. A lady answered the phone, I explained the situation and what I was needing, and she if I could bring it in asap, they could have it back to me the next day. So I took a $30 Uber ride only to get there and the lady tell me no, they could not wash the garment. I asked why and she said they needed more time. I told her I spoke with someone over the phone and talked about the details and I was told they could. As we were discussing the situation, a man (Phill the owner) walked in and said the same thing, they would need more time. I told him that I called and spoke with a lady who said differently. After a little back and forth, Phil started yelling at me and pounding on his chest. I asked him several times to stop yelling. The lady claimed she never spoke to me but they are the only two employees and I showed the phone log. Phil started yelling again to the point where people passing by we're stopping and he was yelling at them to keep walking. The lady refused to give her name and told me if I didn't leave she would call the police. I encourage her to do it but ultimately decided it wasn't worth it so I left. As I was leaving Phil came from behind the counter and slammed the door as I was walking out. I opened it up and told him I didn't appreciate his attitude and if anything I should be the one upset. He just stared at me and didn't offer any remedies or sympathy. read more

She also made wonderful alterations to my "mother of the bride" dress and added a nice ribbon I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Last Tuesday, I dropped off a dingy, red couch cover that my roommate bought for $10. I was told that it would be finished by that Thursday. So, I come in on Thursday, but was told that my couch cover was "really big" and wouldn't be ready until Monday. Obviously, my couch cover would take a week to get cleaned because it was "really big." I also learned that the dry cleaning was outsourced, the main reason why my cleaning was taking so long! I wouldn't have minded so much except that the woman who worked at the cleaners was so smug each time I went in to request my paltry couch cover. So, I went in on Monday and guess what? It still wasn't ready. I only went to this cleaners because I live down the street, but I won't be back. Maybe if I need something cleaned that I don't really like wearing anyways and doesn't need to be cleaned immediately, then I would take something to this location, but in that case why would I even waste the money on dry cleaning at all? read more

Sad to see bad reviews from others but I've never been anything but pleased with this place. It's pretty cheap, less than $3 for items, I think. Everything is on time, usually two days later. And clean. And not shrunk. And it's rrrright by my place. Finally found my dry cleaner. It seems the other reviews were for somewhat specialty items, which I've also taken in, so while it sucks the others had bad experiences, mine thus far have been great! -----Update------ I noticed today this place is called Northwood Cleaners. So perhaps it's under new management/has new owners? Sounds like it wasn't ideal before, but the name has changed. I say give it a try. read more
