The Truck Shop - Photo taken identifying the loose set screw nuts. But is also shows the new problem, the broken connection on the FCA.

I have been taking my company's work vehicles here for 4 years and have never been disappointed…read more Some vehicles of which we bring from San Diego because they always go above and beyond for us. Not only do we know the work is done well and right, but they explain everything and allow me to feel confident in the diagnosis, service, etc. The guys working on the vehicles are top notch and great at what they do. David and Bree at the front are awesome and extremely communicative and answer my questions to a T. It can be difficult to find a shop that's honest, fair priced and that also does incredible work. This place is the trifecta and I'll never take my vehicles anywhere else.

I want to update this review to reflect how the shop handled my initial complaints. After my 2-star…read morereview, the shop called me immediately. They were professional, apologetic, and eager to make it right. They had me bring the truck back to correct the coolant mistake (they originally used OAT instead of HOAT). Since the system had to be drained anyway, I asked if they could install a new water pump I had purchased. They agreed and installed the pump for free. They also replaced a reservoir cap and some brake light bulbs at no charge going above and beyond the coolant correction. They also issued a $160 refund. Their customer service recovery was top-tier. However, I have to leave this at 3 Stars because the original mechanical errors were significant and dangerous: The set screws on the new Borgeson steering shaft were left loose without threadlocker. I had to disassemble the shaft grind a divot and fix it myself. On a heavy-duty truck, loose steering components are a massive risk. On the drive home from the shop, my check engine light came on and the engine started knocking and running much louder than usual. I inspected the area where they had been working and found they had broken the connector on the FCA (Fuel Control Actuator) aka MPROP, likely it was broken while they were wresting the heavy Power Steering Box into place. This caused an intermittent connection which causes high pressure to the injectors resulting in engine knock and it can destroy injectors. I had to order a replacement FCA and install it myself just to get the truck running right again before I could even bring it back for the coolant fix. The staff is friendly and they stand behind their work if you call them out, but the mechanical carelessness (broken FCA/MPROP, loose steering shaft, wrong coolant) is too much to overlook. I appreciate the refund and the fix, but I shouldn't have to diagnose broken connectors and tighten loose steering bolts after paying a shop. I really do appreciate them fixing the brake light though, I thought the light-out display was on due to my aftermarket headlights, so I'm adding a star back for the corrections, and extra services they provided.

Was I pleasantly surprised of running into Tom the owner, as soon as I got there. He was so friendly and knowledgeable about my car. He didn't try to sale me things I didn't need or scare me with big ticket work projects, ( as a matter of fact) Tom was just the opposite, He relieved my worries about my oil disappearing in my car, about my car lagging, and I can truthfully tell you, all I needed was an oil change and some break pads, THAT'S IT! ON MY 24 YEAR OLD BEAUTIFUL CAR!!!!! and Tom said my Beautiful engine runs great!!!!! Great! (til it wasn't)…read more Tom's a great mechanic, & fixed several of our vehicles over 3 years. All went well until incorrectly diagnosing a problem w/our Cayenne. The issue was pulsating in the drive train. Their 1st assumption was "failed motor mounts". (I have no doubt the motor mounts were compromised, but it turned out to be unrelated). $2k+ later The vehicle was returned "as if" it was solved. It wasn't. Took it back, Tom drove it w/me & agreed. Then said he was consulting Porsche in Stuttgart Germany & would let me know "Monday" (it was a Friday). So, Monday afternoon I called. I was told back & day after. Each time I was told- "He's super busy but will get back to you". By Thursday I was no longer accepting that response as reasonable at and told by the formerly nice person on the phone that my repeated requests for an update were somehow over the top (my words, not hers... but I'd say that's a fair representation). To which I protested, asking- "Are you saying my repeated requests are the issue, or the lack of response we're getting from Tom?" I honestly wasn't sure since I had never been harsh, though now admittedly losing patience. She became indignant at this point to which I said- "It sounds like you're firing me as a customer?" Which I repeated with a tone of disbelief ‍. No yelling, just sincere disbelief... to which she apparently found offensive & hung up. The good part of the story is I that (in desperation) I took it to European Autowerks who solved it by flushing out & changing the transfer case fluid. It completely solved the problem for approx $500 (which included changing the differential fluid, & not related to the problem). Anyway, loved working w/Tom, but once they hit a snag they went rouge. If you note all the Yelp comments about "Tom" as a mechanic are A+, but their interfacing w/good loyal customers sometimes goes south. (See other comments) Btw: his wife who works the office part time is wonderful, & never had an issue there... which is also represented in the yelp comments). Your experience might be better, mine started great.
