Beware: Unethical and Deceptive Practices by Ratchets N Wrenches Mobile Mechanic: I'm writing this review on behalf of my 83-year-old mother-in-law, who had a deeply troubling experience with Danny from Ratchets N Wrenches, a mobile auto repair service. Danny was called to inspect and repair a water leak in her vehicle. He initially quoted $360 via text message--no formal documentation, invoice, or written estimate was ever provided. A few days later, Danny claimed additional parts were needed but failed to specify what those parts were or how much they would cost. Despite multiple requests for a breakdown of charges and parts, no information was given. Then, without warning or authorization for any additional work, Danny texted that the vehicle was "all fixed" and demanded $740--more than double the original quote. At no point was a revised estimate presented, nor was consent given for extra repairs. This lack of transparency and disregard for proper documentation is especially concerning given that the customer is an elderly woman. It's clear she was taken advantage of during this process. Danny's reply was, I can come back and remove all the parts and give your money back, what's an 83-year lady supposed to do? Consumers--especially seniors--deserve honesty, clarity, and respect. I cannot recommend Danny enough, we'll definitely be repeat customers. It's important to us to support local businesses that have good reputable people. My Grandfather was using a repair shop with a brand name who we believe was overcharging him. My Mom wasn't going to let her Dad be taken advantage of again so after reading through reviews she found Danny on Yelp. My grandparents car had to be towed home because liquid had burst under the hood, smoking up the inside of the car. I was so freaked out! We also had another car in severe need of a tune up but because of the quotes we got we had been holding off. I'm a woman with only a tiny bit of car knowledge and I can't help but worry if I'm being taken advantage of due to that fact. Not the case here at all. So me and Danny have bee friends for over 20 years. I live in LA and he lives sun city (1 1/2 hour) drive. Minimum. My BMW has been garaged since October of last year. I avoided driving her for so many reasons. It seemed like I was fixing her every 3 months minimum. I was spending thousands. So I said I'm selling it. The owner is a con artist he gave me a quote for 1500 then took my car to his house said it would be 2 weeks tops that was in October I just had to have the cops go to his house and get my car and had to pay $3114 or he would not move his vehicles so I could retrieve mine buyer beware this is the ultimate scammer. Oh and my car is not even close to being done still doesn't start he charged for stuff that was not approved. By far the worst experience I have ever had myself or ever heard about. If I could give negative 100 stars I would. He wouldn't move my car until I signed the release of liability and for all who would like you can contact me with the proof. He installed an electric fuel pump that is leaking gas all over the wiring and the pump itself, the battery cables trans cool cables are all resting on the headers alond with the electrical, the headers to the exhaust gasket is completely missing the shifting linkage is not there the speedometer cable is not there all the AN fittings i provided at 15-20 dollars each are gone the distributor is not installed its just pushed into position none of the spark plug wires are installed he used the power steering hose for the fuel hose. I'm sure there will be much more the further the I inspect it also was told i needed new serpentinebelts becausetheywereto tight now the ones he put on justfall right off, he scratched up my freshlypainted hooker comp headers. read more

I always find it unnecessarily hyperbolic when people say things like "I wish I could give more than five stars". But after having these guys over to my house, I'm rethinking my position. They're literally life savers. My work vehicle broke down after running over a piece of debris on the road. I suspected that the gas tank was hit, knocking my fuel pump out of commission (read: $$$). My regular mechanic is in Riverside but I was having problems securing a tow over there without having to pay through the nose, as my AAA membership wasn't upgraded for a long tow. Short on options, I considered a mobile mechanic. I was very hesitant to do this because I have had a couple of bad experiences doing that. The last guy was ESPECIALLY BAD; he made the problem worse, was clearly incompetent, and he even stole things from inside the vehicle. However, seeing Ratchet and Wrenches' reviews on Yelp eased my apprehensions. They showed up with a nice set up of equipment, and these guys were able to chase down the problem and get me up and running. But to put it like that is to not do any justice to the actual difficulties I watched them encountering along the way. From A to Z, I felt like I was in the hands of true masters of their craft. A lesser mechanic might have sent me down the wrong path of replacing the fuel pump, which would have been a waste of money. They ruled that out though, and found the actual problem (bad distributor, which was hard to get to because it's a cargo van). It took more time than they estimated (they had to return the following morning to finish). I was really worried that it was going to get into additional costs beyond what was quoted, but they came through for me and I can now get back to the business of making money. I'm definitely going to be using these guys in the future. Danny and Bill are studs in my book. I can't even find superlative enough words to express my endorsement of their company. I called Danny and ask for a quote on a diagnostic he quoted me $40 and when he came here he charged me $85 for a diagnostic that was really not a diagnostic at all his technician simply attached and OB scanner and looked at the codes. I would have expected a lot more for the money I paid I could have went to a reputable mechanic I'm had a complete computer diagnostic for $89. I would not do business with this person ever again and I will suggest that those of you out there looking for a mechanic not do business with him either read more

Danny is hands down one of the best mechanics in this area. He has helped me twice and both times did a great job. First time he came to my home and showed me that that my check engine light was due to a bad gas cap. Problem solved! Saved me a bunch. Would not have passed smog check without him. Second time was much more serious. My Toyota Highlander check engine light turned out to be a bad knock sensor. In a Toyota this is bad. Not because it's a terminal illness but because to fix it you have to practically remove the whole top of the engine and manifold. Check the YouTube videos if you think I'm exaggerating. Parts less than $60 but labor - scary! Danny took the car late one afternoon at his house and had if back next day running like new. Cost less than half what the local garages wanted. I must preface this with the fact that my issue turned into an almost 3 month ordeal. I honestly dont even really know where to begin but ill start with the highlights and if you want to know more (which you should) keep reading. 1. Danny operates with the highest integrity. He gave me a price for the inspection and a price for the cost of repair. It was straightforward, and throughout the 3 month ordeal that's where the price stayed, no matter how many problems we faced he never asked for more. This is HUGE. Due to the unforseen circumstances of the state of my vehicle he could've charged me an arm and a leg, but he didn't. I just feel like you don't always encounter that sort of kindness anymore. I know time is money, and he could've charged me a lot more for all the work he did. 2. He is customer focused. In all my years, this is the 2nd time I felt a mechanic actually had my back. Not to bash other ones I'm sure there are plenty of great ones out there, but Danny went above and beyond to try and help me save money. He really didn't have to, he could have just said "well that's the price" but he didnt and that speaks volume to his character. Dodge dealership wanted to charge me $500 for a part. Danny gave me resources to try and find more cost efficient options for my budget. He works with you, not just for you. 3. He is consciencous of your time. His response time is fast. As soon as a part arrived he came out. Day or night, I threw timelines at him and he made sure to try and stay within that time as much as possible even with multiple jobs he was working on. Even through the holidays. 4. Convenience. Having someone come to your home is a life saver. He had all the necessary tools needed and it was so nice to know that I didn't have to shuffle my kids around and try to find a way to entertain them in some waiting room while I waited for my vehicle to be worked on. 5. Competitive pricing. I called around and got a couple quotes. Danny's was my most affordable option. Not going to lie, "you get what you pay for" did come to mind, and he superceded my expectations. THE ORDEAL: I reached out to Danny to have him take a look at my car because of a strong gas odor. He quoted me for an inspection and then after he figured out what was wrong he quoted me the price to fix it. It should have been an easy fix, but as Murphy's law would have it, everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. The dealership ordered the wrong part (this happened 3 more times). By the end of this whole ordeal the parts associate there said I should work there because I had been there so many times. Honestly, I lost count of how many times Danny came out to my house. After about the 5th time I stopped counting. My gas had been leaking out of a line, and because it was going on for so long it had caked debris onto the other lines. When we thought the problem was fixed another line had been leaking too but due to all the debris it wasn't visible. He scrubbed away to find the other line and where the issue was and after the right part came in he fixed it. Okay, we're done, right? Nope! There was also an issue with my fuel pump. We ordered it online, all the information was correct, but for some reason the way it was made, it didn't fit (I don't know the specifics of what everything is called, forgive me). We had to order another one, which resulted in him putting the car back together and waiting for the 2nd part to arrive. With all the setbacks Danny had the patience of a saint. He ended up replacing the entire fuel line system and the fuel pump. The initial diagnosis was ONE broken line. Do you know how much he charged me for coming out time and time again, and replacing multiple parts? ONLY MY INITIAL QUOTE. Had I taken my vehicle to a shop I would've walked out with a bill 5x what I was initially quoted after the other problems were discovered. I was terrified that after everything he was going to send me this huge invoice for all the extra work he had done, work that spanned 3 months, but like the good guy he is, he didn't. He shook my husband's hand and we said "hopefully we don't see you for a long time." This is a long review, but it's absolutely necessary for people to know what kind of person they're leaving the care of their vehicle to and who Danny is.
