I had to get a 401(k) document notarized. First, I decided to go to a local UPS store to get it done. The service was done incorrectly. The man at the UPS store was unwilling to seal the original document since it did not have the California Civil Code section 1189 specific disclaimer at the top of the form: "A notary public or other officer completing this certificate verifies only the identity of the individual who signed the document to which this certificate is attached, and not the truthfulness, accuracy, or validity of that document." I was fine with it. He pulled out a California All-Purpose Acknowledgment Civil Code section 1189 form from his drawer, filled the top part, which only confirms he saw my ID, validated my ID, and personally saw me sign my original document, but did not fill out the bottom portion, which needed to be completed in order to cross-reference the acknowledgment with my original form and make the notary valid with my original document. In addition, he refused to cross out the notary detail section on the original document and write a memo on the original document to refer to the California All-Purpose Acknowledgment form, so there was no way to verify that the form he filled out was for my original document. Finally, he promised me that he did everything correctly, he's done this so many times, and to not worry about a thing. I left the store unsatisfied. The financial services company was not willing to accept the notary from UPS. I decided to go to Notary Nuke. I got exactly what I needed: prompt, professional, courteous service, and notarizing that was done correctly. I was offered more than one option for notary services. Notary Nuke is my go-to spot for all my future notary needs. I highly recommend them. read more
