One of the best meals we had in Barcelona. We had a late lunch here on a rainy afternoon after a tour of the Palau de Música Catalana. We came on the tail end of lunch hour but even when we were the last ones in the restaurant, we never felt rushed. The restaurant has three different "sections." One section is along the wall and near the counter. The other two are divided by a wooden floor. We chose the section below (probably not good if you are claustrophobic), and felt like we were in an ancient inn with the low ceiling and occasional footsteps above us. The menu of the day was a DEAL. 3 delicious courses for 13€. With a few extra tapas, coffee after dinner, and an extra glass of wine, the total tab for three people was 65€. It was all hits and no misses with what we ordered. For the first course: noodles with sausage, chickpeas with sausage, and roasted eggplant with a bit of tomato sauce. For the second course: honeyed chicken and veal on toast with tomato and goat cheese. Our tapas: fried calamari with a bit of ink, olives, and a toast with truffle, ibérico, and me mental. Dessert was all house-made, from the flan to the fried bread to the light and moussey apple cheesecake. I recommend reservations! read more

Tried it today because of the good reviews. prix fix lunch is now 15.40 euros. Had Catalonian soup which was a good beef broth with small meatballs, broken spaghetti pieces and overcooked carrots and celery. Chose baby octopus w brocollini for the main, which was a tiny portion with a very salty thick paste and a few slices of brocolli (not brocollini) end pieces. desert choices were sweet bread, a flat chocolate cake and ice cream. because I can't eat wheat (the cake looked good), I chose the ice cream which was a mediocre dixie cup- pre packaged ice cream w chocolate and vanilla. the interior was small and cozy, my waiter was unfriendly. oh well. read more

My son and I enjoyed an early morning breakfast at Nou Celler. Not many restaurants were open, so we were happy to stumble across Nou Celler. My son had a cheese, spinach, and mushroom omelette for 7.50€; I ordered an Iberico Spanish ham sandwich for 7.00€, and cafe con leche for 1.50€. The sandwich was so good, I ordered a second one. After walking all day we decided to get an early dinner to refuel. Down an alley way near the Picasso museum we stumbled upon this cozy restaurant. As we we're reading the happy hour specials and menus outside a friendly server invited us in but we hesitated since there was nobody in the restaurant. Just about the same time another couple decided to go in and we followed. The inside is cozy with lots of dark wood beams, a sort of medieval stable look. There are separate tables and bench seating. We picked a couple of wines from the happy hour menu, a Cava and Rose both under 2 Euros per glass. They also had a multi course tapas happy hour special for $18 which I ordered. My wife wanted to try paella since all we had for 3 days were.tapas. The tapas were very good, especially the stuffed eggplant, similar in taste to stuffed grape leaves, cheese assortment was excellent Patas bravas we're also very good but by that time I was already stuffed. As we begin eating our tapas a Canadian couple sat down next to us and we had a great time chatting with them. They we're in Barcelona for 2 Weeks and had eaten at this restaurant previously and wanted to have one more meal here before they returned home. They recommended a local red wine served at this restaurant which we all enjoyed. The paella was too salty but I do recommend the tapas and drinks. read more

After our visit of the Museu Picasso, we found this Restaurant just a street away. From outside it looked ok, and the prices were expensive but not out of scope. The service was quick and we got seated in a lower area on rustic wooden furniture. All in all did not look too bad. The food was a disaster. We ordered the Tapas Menu as we thought this could be a good idea. To make long talk short - WE ALL GOT SICK. It seems the ingredients of some of the dishes were past their time and our kids got a serious food intoxication with all the things that come with such. Very, very bad. No return here and we will give an information to the Health Authorities in Barcelona. read more

Comfy restaurant located in el born. We were greeted by enthusiastic wait staff. After finding tapas tourist traps everywhere we looked, this was a refreshing find. I was able to finally try an authentic Catalan dish - Catalan chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly and served with tasty vegetables on the side. The sauce complemented the meal well. A Catalan dish of Caramelized goat cheese on a bed of lovely greens with jellied quince pomegranate seeds sunflower seeds tomatoes. To die for! Of course with crusty bread. I was staying in the trendy Born neighbourhood of Barcelona, and decided I'd try a restaurant which had not been reviewed yet on Yelp, so I happened upon Nou Cellar after getting lost on one of the many windy small streets. The restaurant itself has a warm, welcoming feel to it. The waiter who served me spoke English, though the service here wasn't anything particularly memorable. After claiming a table in the lower section of the restaurant (which turned out to be 'just' safe, considering the rafters were only an inch above my 6'3" frame), I asked for a glass of Sangria and a Catalan Omelette to start, and the Paella for a main. Lets start with the Sangria - someone told me after my visit that if a place served you Sangria by the glass, it most likely came out of a carton. This definitely didn't taste like it had been freshly made (but still cost a few Euros). The omelette was.. and there's no really kind way of saying this.. dull. Probably the most boring omelette I've come across - it wasn't particularly large, didn't have many ingredients in it and was just.. boring. I don't know if that's just how a Catalan omelette is, but a little imagination could have gone a long way. And then the paella. Well, the rice was crunchy. Quite frankly, if you've not bothered to cook the rice for long enough, then the entire paella is going to be a write off. Disaster. I opted not to stick around for dessert. When the bill came, I noticed that IVA (the sales tax) wasn't included in the menu prices, and had been added on as extra on the bill. Note that this is also a pretty bad trick that the 'lesser quality' restaurants will try to pull on you in Spain. Overall, steer clear. Born has many other much nicer restaurants to try out. read more

I can here twice during my stay in Barcelona. I hadn't had an omelette in 2 weeks since leaving Cali and it was just what the doctor ordered. They call it a tortilla -- and it's made with what you like. Options include spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes or asparagus. Delish and great AM service! read more

Two of the tapas we ordered were not fresh and good, the mussels were probably past their expiration date and we did not take the risk of trying them. Can't believe we've been living in the apartment upstairs for three weeks and just tried this place today. It's wonderful. We split the tapas menu for 16.50€ and meatballs, 5€, with beer and water for 28€. Nou Celler was by far the best restaurant I had the pleasure of visiting in Barcelona. While enjoying a romantic stay with my girlfriend, we got a taste of authentic Catalan food. The service was great as the entire staff was friendly. Much like other spots in the city, they were able to accommodate English speaking travelers like ourselves (although I made an effort to try out my Spanish the entire meal). Overall, the food was great and it helped contribute to our great experience! read more

In summer of 2009, I went to visit one of my friends who was living in Barcelona. Somehow, we randomly stumbled upon this quaint restaurant and boy, I'm so happy we did. To this day (seven years later), I still remember how remarkably delicious the food was; I had the octopus dish and it was cooked to perfection. Since then, I've been to a lot of restaurants and still haven't found a place with comparable food. Its ok ... So we stopped by the Picasso Museum and we found what we thought was a little gem. Ok, so at 13.99 Euro per person, we thought, hey that's not bad and in we go. Waited at the bar for about 30-45 minutes, my vino cost about 3 Euro which is a pretty small goblet glass. When we finally got seated, we pretty much got served right away. Their fried anchovies were good, the stewed baby octopus doesn't really cut our taste. But its not it that made us dock 2 stars. Its the wait and they forgot to give us a squid dish that we ordered for appetizer. Server said that its because we're busy and we dont have time to check what dishes comes out - not a good answer (period) coming from someone who is a old time fine dining server. Anyway, my food got out cold, so I had it re-heated. All in all, its an "ok" experience. I'm sure its a good hit for the locals since some of the restaurant are all spread out, but I wont make the effort to come back here. Its hard enough to find any restaurant in Born. After looking for a good tapas place following our visit at el Museo de Picasso, we saw this little place. It looked cute and cozy so we decided to check it out. Once we got inside we decided to sit down stairs in the cellar which was a nice ambiance. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. We ordered various tapas and wine. The tapas were all terrific except for the calamari rings which were too large and chewy for me. The house wine was low in cost and great! I'm hoping to go back again before I leave Barcelona and would recommend it 100%! read more

Everything tasted pretty good except the calamari- tasted a little weird. The waiter even brought us shots of a sweet alcohol free of charge at the end of our dinner.
