I had an extra large storage unit at Nova Storage Sylmar for about 3 years. It was almost always unpleasant and regrettable. The manager, Sophia is quite unprofessional and really rude most of the time. The first problem happened on day 1. I was checked in by Michael. He told me I had 30 days to get insurance on my own after move in. Within a week I got an email from the manager threatening to charge me for their insurance if I didn't provide proof of insurance immediately. I told her I was told by Michael I would have 30 days to get insurance. She was not even a little apologetic and was rude and said, if I didn't get her insurance proof by the end of the day she'd automatically charge me for theirs. They offer a free moving truck on move in, but refused it to me because I didn't move in the very first day of my account. I didn't know this was the policy and moved in about a week after signing up. They said it was for new customers only, which was really awful customer service. Also, their hours are really unacceptable for a storage facility. Their gate is locked at 6pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends! Weekends should be LONGER hours. There were multiple times I was unable to access my storage unit after work because of their terrible hours. Over the 3 years, I emailed them several times for various reasons. Never got a response a single time. Worse, every 6 months they raised rent. I started out at about $250 and by the time I left it was OVER $350. The worst, and what made me leave, is they decided to start a policy where you have to come and remove your lock from your unit and force you to use their locks so they have keys to your storage unit. I told them to go @$*% themselves then and moved out. read more

I knew nothing about storage units and was weary about getting one until I spoke with Isaac this morning. He was so wonderful and helpful! I didn't know the sizing of the unit I would need and he made sure to let me know that he would show me some units once I arrived. Once arriving he not only remembered me but was extremely sweet and informative!! He showed me a unit that was perfect for me. Location is very clean! 1st time using a storage place. The staff is very nice, professional and helpful, the place seems clean and secure. Prices are definitely the lowest ...trust me i looked around and these guys have reasonable prices! you can also pay online which is very convenient. The only thing i don't care for is the times your allowed to go in and out... i guess is for safety purposes but if i need to go and get something from storage i cannot make it before they close which is at 6pm on weekdays...so i have to wait till Saturday or rush after work if i really need something. Other than the times i am happy with this choice! :-) read more

EVen thought I moved half way across the Valley, I would still go back to NOVA in Sylmar if I needed a storage space again. The owners are truly GOOD PEOPLE. They are very involved in the community; they do regular drawings for Dodger tickets; they participate in local parades, etc; and they support local groups and teams. Beware of the hours this storage is NOT for the working man. When your at work their open, when your off work they are closed as they have banker hours, weekend hours are even shorter so early risers can't get in and late afternoons better be fast...forget about holidays. I just received and email that they are closed for 4th of July. To make it even worse they give huge discounts to new customers but the 'bread and butter' customers who have been loyal get a price hike about every 6 months. RENTER BEWARE read more

Moving out of my apartment in Northridge to Tujunga, there are a few items I need to keep in storage. I dropped in to Nova on Saturday because my boyfriend has used them in the past and liked the service for his storage unit. At first I was undecided about which size unit to take. I thought I had seen an advertisement for the Self Storage up by 210 and Yarnell.... so when I told the guy I wanted to check and see which was the better deal, Carlos, who had done all my paperwork, was very gracious and said he would be there if we decided to return. I ran up to the Self Storage, found out their prices were waaay over the prices offered at Nova and returned to sign up. Carlos gave us all the information and showed us around the units. I appreciated his patience with my questions. You can pay online, with billing or autopay via your bank's direct wire transfer. They offer deals too. Will update you on the move when it is finally over and my items have made the transition. I was impressed with the quality of the welcome and information as well. read more

Wow, under new management, scalpers. Watch out for these guys, they are completely inflexible, rude. I do believe my possessions are safe it's a solid place, clean. But the policy of not prorating months after the 10th is a scam, in other words you can move out on the 15 - but you're still forced to pay for the whole month. And they are really quick to lock you out and start fining you astronomically. If I had a do over... But when I first went the people were awesome. So. Go figure. read more
