This company is unprofessional, ineffective, and has an "I don't care" attitude. They don't return phone calls. They have an inability to get a urgent water leak matter solved. Novalis in 2023 removed a old leaking sky light on a front patio flat roof, re pitched roof for better drainage and installed a Acrylic Membrane roof excellent work. June 2025 installed new roof on rest of house, replaced rotted plywood, installed Owen's Corning water, ice and snow shield, and attic ventilation then a good quality shingles. They took pictures of roof and inside attic showing where plywood was rotted. Installed drainage by chimney to prevent water from laying on roof. Crew very detailed everyone knew their job, received reports and pictures daily on work that was completed- job was not rushed, what I like is they do not use sub contractors or day laborers, all work done by long time full time employees, job site cleaned at end of day, used magnetic sweeper around entire house and driveway. What a company! I've heard horror stories about the roofing industry and roof replacements. After meeting five different contractors the choice was clear. Novalis is playing at a different level. TL;DR: Overall I am quite disappointed that Novalis i) offered a bad solution to my issue; ii) falsely overpromised on what their work would achieve; iii) weren't willing to stand by their work and accept responsibility that the work did not do what they said it would, iv) wouldn't work with me to find a solution; and most importantly v) talked about me behind my back and then pretended to be nice about it to my face. Full review: I had a very negative experience with Novalis. I called them to come check out a leak I was having that was showing up around my chimney inside the attic. Someone from Novalis came out to inspect and informed me that the flashing looked to be in good shape but that the leak was coming from the chimney itself, and said there were cracks in the mortar that needed to be filled to stop the leaking. I gave them the ok to start work based on their diagnosis but sure enough, the work did not solve the issue. I called them again to let them know and see if there was anything to be done. This time, a different tech came out and gave us a totally different diagnosis and said that the "solution" that last tech had given us wouldn't have worked - he even said he was going to talk to him when he got back to the office to figure out why he gave that recommendation. When I called the office later to discuss that discrepancy, I was told that the original work they performed wasn't guaranteed to work - but it's the first step in a series of steps which they take to try to eliminate what the potential issue is. I understand that it can be very difficult to diagnose the source of a roof leak, but that is not how the original tech presented his solution to us. He assured us what he gave as a recommendation would work. If it was presented as a potential solution I may not have done the work or at least would have had different expectations. It is strange to offer solutions in a prescribed order, rather than trying to accurately diagnose the problem the first time. I asked if we could compromise and have the cost of the original work (or some portion of it) offset against the next "step" of their plan since what they had done originally didn't fix anything. It was only a couple hundred dollars that would be offset against several thousand. Given the lack of communication and the fact that the second tech told us the first guy had no idea what he was doing, I thought it was a reasonable request. The sales person on the phone said let me speak to my sales manager. The next part is the real kicker and the reason I won't work with Novalis again. The sales person thought that they put me on hold, but in reality I could still hear the conversation between them and the sales manager. They spent several minutes talking about how it was crazy I would even ask for something like that, that I had no idea what I was talking about and that they would never even consider any sort of compromise like that. They also said some not friendly stuff about me and insulted my intelligence while they thought I couldn't hear. The sales person got back on the line - faking friendliness - and was starting to tell me they can't meet me halfway. At which point I told them, politely (which was hard), that I was going to find a different company to work with and would recommend that you not talk poorly about your customers behind their back when you think they are on hold. Novalis is not a company I would trust with my roof or chimney, nor to let in my house again. I have not heard from Novalis since this incident. We have since had other roofing companies come out to inspect, and have seen photo evidence that the work performed by Novalis was done haphazardly and fixed absolutely nothing. read more

Our roof project is complicated. It involves solar panel removal, flat and shingle roof replacement/repair, leader and gutters, rooftop deck, and soffit repair. Before we chose Novalis, we had seen multiple roofing companies. Novalis' quote was not the lowest but their proposal was very detailed and reasonable and it was clear to us that they knew what are the right things to do. Novalis installed our roof less than 5 years ago. With the most recent rain, we had a leak in our ceiling that was caused by failed installation of flashing. When they came to assess the problem, I was told that the flashing was fine; they seemed to also try to pass the buck to my siding installer. Please note that my siding was installed 2 years prior to the roofing installation. They finally concluded that the mold on my ceiling must have been caused by 7 houseplants that I have on my windowsill in the room. When I questioned their assessment I was told very bluntly that the rep from the company had been roofing for more than 30 years and that I was not correct. Their assessment did not even include removal of the siding over the flashing. I have called several other people for their assessment including a mold removal specialist and a contractor and all independently reached the same conclusion - the flashing was not installed properly by the roofer. Cannot say how disappointing this experience has been. read more

I found out David Novalis sold his business to his son in law. Caveat Emptor. Jon Novalis is no David Novalis. He confirmed an appt and ends up being an HOUR LATE to appt. NO apology for lateness no prior update on arrival status. Jon Novalis is rude, not customer focused. He said Your not my only customer I had 10 other appointments I text you. Yeah well there's a difference initiating a text update and responding to one. A promised roof proposal never was sent. Jon Novalis could use some of what David Novalis possesses humility, compassion and his word actually meaning what he says. I don't recommend dealing with him. read more

Novalis performed an extensive roof replacement on our house following the discovery of a number of interior leaks. They were timely, professional, reasonably-priced, and I never felt up-sold on unnecessary work. Notably, they were ready to start the project ahead of schedule, which happened to be right after a huge snowstorm in New Jersey! Rather than delaying the project further (which would have likely led to more interior leaking), their team jumped right in and cleared about a foot of snow from our roof before starting the work, which was completed in less than a week (mind you, they were replacing about 70% of our roof). It was super easy to communicate with the project manager and team members when we had questions, and they kept us constantly apprised about the status of the project. What is more, they've been extremely responsive in liaising with our insurance carrier concerning the repairs. I have recommended Novalis to others in the area and will readily do so in the future! read more

We moved to Maplewood in July and could tell that our roof had approximately one good rain left before our house became an above-ground pool. We reached out to Novalis who quickly scheduled an appointment to come check it out. They got us a quote promptly and were very upfront that they weren't the cheapest guys on the block, but that they would do quality work (guaranteed). The fact that it was a third generation family-owned business gave us peace of mind that they wouldn't try to cut corners. And they did not! They spent 3.5 days replacing a 30 year old roof (with lots of rotten wood) and it now looks 100000% better - and actually keeps water out! They really paid a lot of attention to the details, and even put up some shingling (that matches our existing) where the previous "patch job" by someone else had included just slopping some tar around. We were relieved that they didn't go over budget... We are going to replace all our siding in the spring and are definitely going to use them. Very happy with their work! read more

Surprisingly disappointed, as Novalis should have a strong reputation. I had minor work needed to be done to my roof after damage done by a storm over a year ago. After agreeing to the proposal, Novalis did not show and were extremely difficult to receive updates from. When I finally could get in touch, they told me it would be done sometime that week (many times I was told this). While I understand my project was minor and fell towards the bottom of their priorities compared to full roof repairs, I would at least expect transparency and to have my calls returned. At the very least, if they couldn't do the project then they could have said no. Eventually I went with another roofing company that was quick, efficient, transparent, and professional. read more

We received an invoice on 12/24 from Novalis Roofing for work at our home & we were disappointed with the disclaimer "Due to the condition of the roof this repair proposal cannot be guaranteed to stop the active leak". In an email exchange with the sales person, in a text exchange with the estimator & in a phone conversation with the sales person I shared our concerns about this being an ongoing problem with the same solution being offered but we were reassured that this repair would address the problem. The leak started in Sept 2018 - when our roof that was installed by Novalis - was just 13 years old. David Novalis said the spot in the upstairs bedroom was not from a leak. Okay. In Feb 2020 we spent $4,725 with Novalis on new gutters & roof repair that included lift & seal all shingles, cracks, nail pops & rusted nails. Great maybe this will fix the leak. In Dec 2020 we reached out again to Novalis as the roof was leaking & paid $350 for the repair which included lift and seal all shingles, cracks, nail pops and rusted nails. Now in Dec 2022, the leak is worse than ever. Antonio comes, the proposal is the same, the sales person & I have a long conversation where he assures me that Novalis will lift & seal all shingles, cracks, nail pops & rusted nails within 10 feet of the leak & this will fix the problem. In that same conversation with Fritz, I told him that we were contemplating working with another company since all prior efforts to fix this ongoing problem had not resolved anything & the solution was the same. Fritz assured me that Novalis was confident in Antonio's abilities to solve this once & for all, & that there wasn't a need for us to look elsewhere. Unrelated to the leak, we spent $3,945 with Novalis to fix storm damage to our roof & gutters. We've given them significant business & put our trust in them. We emailed Novalis on 12/24. Got a response saying they'd get back to us. We emailed 12/28. No response to date. Reported to Better Business Bureau and Novalis didn't respond to them either. read more

When the guy came to give an estimate he broken my window and did not own up to it. I discovered it a few days later. He is the only one who had access to crack the glass. He was clumsy with his ladder and cracked the glass, but did not tell me he cracked it. The a-hole just left without telling me. What a dishonest jerk. read more
