I discovered Novis by chance in winter 2023 and decided to get a custom orthotic/insert made even though I was only visiting from the East Coast for a couple of days. Multiple phone tag attempts followed before the inserts finally reached me around two months later. The quality and durability of the orthotic was among the best I have ever had, though, and that probably was the key factor in leading me to give the business another chance when I was briefly back in the area earlier this spring. Unfortunately, the delayed shipping and prolonged phone tag situation has recurred and I still don't have the new orthotic over two months later. I have taken my shoes to a few places to have a lift put on my right shoes prior to finding Cesar @ Novis Shoes. I wasn't thrilled with their work but didn't know how poor their work was. until I found Cesar @ Novis Shoes. I learned the difference between fair and SUPERIOR WORK! Cesar has modified so many running shoes for over the years along with every other kind of shoe. Yes, can can modify any shoe! His work has always been the best quality every time. His lifts are so precisely done that people don't even realize I wear and lift and if they look at my lifted shoe the biggest question I receive is I love your shoes, where do I get them! I recently moved to Arizona and was concerned that he wouldn't be able to continue altering my shoes. It is without exaggeration that Ceasar, the owner of this business, completely wasted my time and money. Unfortunately I didn't go with my gut, ignoring red-flags made manifest when I first spoke with him on the phone. When I called to set up a consultation with him. I was met with highly personal questions and advice aimed at influencing and commenting on a prescribed treatment plan. Three times I told him that I was already receiving recovery treatment from a highly trained, well informed physical therapist, yet for about 15 minutes he rattled on about the exercises I should be doing, some of which ran contrary to what the therapist prescribed. He is not a physical therapist. Stupidly, I made a consultation appointment with him that cost me $75. Because his practice is close to my home and I can't drive, I decided to go forward with his "service" and paid $375 as a down payment for the $850 he would be charging me for the brace. Before and during the fitting process, he talked at length about his personal life-why he drives the car he does, where his kids go to school, why he didn't become a doctor, so on and so on and so on... During his monologue, one of his customers came in to pick up a custom made shoe he had told her would be ready that day. She was confused when he told her that it would not be ready until days after. Why didn't he just fit me for the brace and then with expediency, follow through with her order? On the day he told me that mine would be ready, I called and was told he needed to first reach out to the "guy" who had designed it. What? I never heard from him. I called and left a message. Did not hear back. Called again, did not hear back, so I called my credit card company to stop payment. I called to let him know that while I would not be challenging the $75 consultation fee, my credit card company had stopped payment on the $375 payment. I told him that his failure to follow through with his word lacked integrity and professionalism. He said in response, "Can I call you in 10 minutes?" to which I said, "fine." People need to be aware that there is something wrong with the proprietor of this store (Cesar) and the way he is doing business. My 90 year old mother ordered shoes from him 5 months ago for $450 that were supposed to include custom arch supports. The first red flag was that he charged her $450 twice (took a few weeks to back out the second charge). Then after a couple months of not receiving the shoes, he played several games: saying that he sent by mail them when he didn't (a few times), not returning numerous calls from myself and my mom, then finally my brother had to pick them up in person and after looking at them we find there are no custom arch supports (only $12 store-bought insoles). To this day we still do not have what she paid for (the shoes were only $180 online without arch supports) and he has done nothing to make this right. I consider it border-line fraud and elder abuse to have someone take advantage of the money of a 90 year old woman who needs these supports for her health. I highly recommend staying away from this place. read more

A man named Caesar owns this business. He called me up when I got a referral from Kaiser for orthotics. Caesar said it would be free, that Kaiser would pay for it, one pair of shoes and 3 orthotics. When I went to my first appointment we were alone and he locked the door behind me. It made me nervous. We ordered one pair of sneakers and he took my foot imprint. After several weeks, I had to call him to get an appointment to get my shoes and orthotics. I went back for the fitting and the orthotic didn't fit inside the shoe, so then he had to order one size larger shoe, this is when he told me that Kaiser was charging $300 and I needed to pay that, so I did, but I was thinking in the back of my mind, he told me it would be free. Third visit, the orthotic fit in the shoe, but the shoe was now too big for me, but I took it home because I was so frustrated with the whole thing, I was sick and tired of things not working and coming back to get this done over and over. Caesar then said he would make 3 more orthotics and it would be ready in a week. As you can guess, they weren't ready and he never called me, I had to call then go by and they weren't ready. This process started in August and it's now November and this time, I took my husband with me and Caesar said he was re-organizing and he did't know where they were or couldn't find them. Then I asked for the invoice showing where I had paid the $300 and he said he didn't have that ready either!!! That was it! I was so mad. He took my number down, again, and said he would call. I was done. I called Kaiser and filed a grievance and filed a dispute with my credit card company for the $300 charge. I am NOT GOING BACK TO THAT PLACE EVER AGAIN!!!! Caesar wasted my time and money for shoes and one orthotic that doesn't fit properly. Extremely frustrating and expensive experience. If he had said that it was going to cost $300 up front I wouldn't have gotten them. Kaiser told me he has the ability to see what would be covered. I've been coming here for years and years because I been having a lot feet problems that the foot Dr couldn't help me with.... I got recommended to this place by a family friend and it has helped a lot with my feet problems because of the custom inserts and every time I come in to get new ones Cesar always make sure it fits me just right and takes his with how comfortable I am when I first walk in them... He always make adjustments to the inserts no matter what they may be and I always leave here super satisfied with his work! If I could give Cesar a NO STAR rating, I would. He wants pre-payment for orders sent to him, but then he drags his feet, taking forever to complete the order or not complete them at all (its been over a month and we still do not have the lifted shoes we paid for). I've emailed him repeatedly with no responses. I've left many phone messages with no results. If I am anything, I am persistent, though, and finally (after 5 attempts at calling) he answered his phone, three weeks after I paid. During that call, he assured me the order would go out priority that day. Now we fast-forward a week, and I call him again. "They're going out tomorrow" he tells me. I confronted him with his inconsistency and asked him if he truly understood which order I was inquiring about, or if he was being untruthful? I confronted him that he tells me what he thinks I want to hear, but there are still no shoes being sent to us. (We sent 3 right shoes for a medical lift. Now we're not only out the order we pre-paid, but 3 sets of shoes are rendered unusable. Cesar is talented and does great work (we've used him in the past), but the last two times we've used him have been utterly exasperating! He has changed and is either the most disorganized person in business or has become one of the most dishonest. Either way, his business days are numbered. read more

I have been luck and blessed to have been referred to Cesar. I've had foot problems for the last 10 years and none of my doctors had been able to help. Cesar took the time to explain what was going on and what I needed to do to help myself. The orthotics he made relieved me of my foot pain. I cannot say enough kind words to describe how Cesar has given me my life back! I'm working 8 to 10 hours a day standing and walking. I've never had any problems until 2 years ago. It started after a 10 hour shift. My feet hurt so bad, I could not stay for the full 12 hours. My right foot seemed to really hurt the most. I tried using off the shelf inserts. The ones where you stand on a machine and it spits out a number like 430. This seemed to work as a temporary fix. I was able to work another year before the pain came back. However, the pain was much more intense. I could not stand for more than an hour before my feet felt like they were on fire! I was taking 1,000mg of acetaminophen every 3 hours just to finish an 8 hours shift. I was in so much pain. I could barely walk the 30 feet into my house. I almost considered going on disability. I found Novis on the internet and decided to give it a try. Cesar had me walk a short distance and was able to diagnosis that my right foot was giving me problems. He took a mold of my feet and made custom inserts. This is the most important part! Don't expect the shoes to feel comfortable the first several days you wear them. You need time to let you feet adjust to the new supports. I am happy to announce that my feet are now pain free! I can easily work a 12 hour shift without any problems! Service-Excellent. Kyle's attention to detail and expert fittings are well worth the trip, and her helper Cesar can do wonders with minor adjustments that can make all the difference with getting the absolute best shoe fit. I have AFOs on both feet, so getting a good shoe fit is critical, and not easy. I went to many shoe stores in San Diego before discovering this place almost by accident on a trip to LA, which will now be my go to shoe store for as long as I need orthopedic shoes. You won't find a more committed, friendly, and expert team for orthopedic shoes in southern CA, well worth traveling to if you need professional and expert service and guidance for a pair of good orthopedic shoes. I ordered 3 pairs of custom orthotics (with free adjustments) as I have really bad feet. I took one pair back several times to get adjustments done so they felt comfortable (before I asked him to do adjustments on the other 2 pairs). I finally had to settle since the owner wasn't able to adjust them to my satisfaction (my right ankle feels like I'm constantly walking on a sloped surface - you'd think a custom shop could make orthotics feel flat). I left my other 2 pairs with the owner to make the same adjustments. A week later I called to see if they were ready. They were not, but I was told they'd be ready later that same day. I wasn't able to stop by but I called about a week later, before stopping by, to verify they were ready. Again, they weren't ready but would be ready later that afternoon. Evenings aren't convenient for me to pick up, given his location and rush hour traffic, so I didn't make it again. About a week later I showed up in the morning, when they opened, to pick them up. The owner wasn't there and the lady that works with him didn't know where they were put. So I wasn't able get them again!!! It took another week before I finally got them. Almost a month after leaving them I finally was able to get my orthotics!!! I would NOT recommend this place for quality orthotics or customer service. My 3 pairs are still not adjusted to my satisfaction, but it's not worth the effort to go back. I have no faith they'll be adjusted to my satisfaction so that they feel comfortable and so that my ankle is aligned properly. I have been wearing orthotics for probably 15 years. This is my worst experience with custom-made orthotics. read more

Do Not go to him, he'll tell you he thinks you shouldn't get the type of shoe your doctor has recommended, then tell you he's going to call your doctor, or the hospital and ask them to let him create something more comfortable but doesn't do it. He does this time and time again and gets patients in trouble with their doctors. He is Not a doctor. He claims that he's been in this business a long time, and that his father had it before him. Well Common Sense says, Get what your Doctor orders NOT what the owner of Novis Orthopedic in Pasadena, Ca tells you "He" thinks you should get. I will Never go to this place again nor should you! He shouldn't be in business! He also charges you for your order, then sends a bill to Medical, Medicare, or your insurance to get paid twice. Total rip off. I've seen two podiatrists and had two sets of orthotics and nothing could stop the pain in the bottom of my feet from Morton's Neuroma. Steroids, injections... the list goes on. I happened upon this shop quite by accident and in desperation, got a new pair of orthotics made. For the first time in years, I can walk without pain. OK, in clumpy ugly shoes, but still! I went to visit my old haunts in NYC and walked for miles with no discomfort whatsoever. Cesar knows what he's doing, and will tweak your orthotics until they work. The owner was very accommodating, and added another inch to my soles. Work was done quickly in two days, and I'm very pleased with the quality. Novis is the only shoe repair I trust my fine shoes. I like good shoes and like them last, which requires good care, quality hills, protection and so on. My experience before Novis was bad - new protection falling off the soil the next day with the shop refusing to do anything with it, randomly cut leather on the sides or the variable color leather hills being painted brown acrylic paint. I couldn't imagine these happening at Novis. The place is a true gem. Cesar knows everything about shoes, he is passioned about them. His work is not cheap, but is well worth every penny.
