I had been to the older New Rebozo in Oak Park some years ago, but I was not overwhelmed. NRebozo, though, has been quite good on my couple of visits in recent weeks. VIBE: Friendly neighborhood feel, rather plain decor, lighting subdued but not too dim. Noise from other tables was notable; music was played at a low level. The most notable ingredient of the ambiance was Chef Paco, who energized the dining room with exuberant good cheer and boundless energy. SERVICE: Chef Paco greeted us quickly and took our drink orders, then returned with his iPad to tell us about the food. He described his dishes in detail and offered suggestions. Food came out at a reasonable pace; we did not feel rushed. Paco checked in with us periodically. FOOD: The dishes we tried In our two visits incluced: Guacamole: bland, but we perked it up with the good salsa that came with the complementary chips. Sope with hibiscus: mashed potatoes and black beans with onion and hibiscus, delicious. Fiesta mole: a flight of six enchiladas of your choice served with six moles, fabulous & filling. Steak quesadilla: tasty chopped steak, but flavor a bit low-key. Chile Nogada: a special seasonal stuffed pepper with terrific flavor and textures, highlighted with pomegranate seeds. Fish tacos: fresh & tasty, included mashed potatoes in the tacos ("because I like mashed potatoes," explained Paco). Mango flan: flavor OK, but not smooth like some flans -- perhaps it had been thickened? Drinks were mostly margaritas, mezcal, etc. There were two wines, one red (garnacha/tempranillo -- good match for this food) and one white (a pleasant apertif, but didn't pair so well with spicy food). Just wow. That was our impression at the end of our meal yesterday. I feel so compelled to leave a review because it was just a great experience from the ambiance, service, and food. If you are in this area, or live around here you need to visit this spot. From the moment we sat down, Chef Paco was involved in taking your order, asking for any kind of allergies, and adjusted dishes personally for my mom's spice tolerance. I just love how interactive it is, and it is rare for us (at least) to meet the head chef and converse personally. Food- it's just damn good. Order and try the fiesta mole sampler, and their signature margaritas. I can't say anything more. It's good. Yum! To start your meal get one of their many cocktails ; They are delicious and gorgeous to look at. The food here is very flavorful. I highly recommend getting the Cajun grill and fiesta mole. It's a nice balance of carbs and meat. The grill comes out with a small burner so the food stays warm the whole time. The enchiladas are super delicious. I would recommend getting all chicken. The sauces are all unique and rotate based on that days selection. As far as price, I would say it's slightly pricey based on the portion sizes; for example $15 for 3 tacos. About last night*** Last night was a double date night with my son & his girlfriend and my husband. I was so excited to go back to New Rebozo to eat one of my favorite dishes. I eat this culinary creation once a year at my favorite Mexican restaurant made by Chef Paco. He only has it on the menu in the fall. Last night when we walked into the restaurant, Chef Paco gave me a big bear hug. How I missed that! I haven't been to his restaurant since before Covid in early 2020. I can't believe he remembered me! Now onto the main event, Chile Nogada. It's a chile poblano stuffed with beef mixed with dried fruit & pecans topped with a pecan sauce and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. There is so much going on with this dish...it's a party in my mouth and absolutely delicious! I had a skinny margarita and the four of us shared two appetizers, the Esquites (think Mexican street corn) and the Hibiscus Sope. I can't believe I was actually eating a hibiscus flower which was sautéed with onions and served on top of mashed potatoes & black beans with a mole habenero sauce. That appetizer was amazing! Happy 30 years in the restaurant business to Chef Paco and the rest of the New Rebozo team. I don't make a business trip to the area without having dinner at Paco's place. His energy and passion is evident in every dish he prepares. I usually order the Fiesta Mole due to the variety of sauces and flavors, but decided to go with an empanada special appetizer and stuffed poblano pepper for dinner. Both were great as usual. THE WHOLE ENCHILADA 2020's Cinco de Mayo marked the perfect chance to order from this Mexican spot in Forest Park. Having dined at New Rebozo several years back, I fondly recalled their awesome selection of 'mole' flavors. At the behest of the ever-charming Nichole S (oh-ho we've got a name change!), we placed an order on 5/5/20 through Grubhub. Despite repeated delays in delivery that took longer than initially promised, our food arrived at long last. I found their 'elote asado' (2 ears of Mexican street corn, $9) to be pretty good. They boil their corn instead of roasting it (which sometimes dries it out), then they roll it in chipotle mayo, queso fresco, and chili powder. The guac & chips ($10) were great, salsa was fresh and flavorful. Their 'arroz' is quirky--they throw diced carrots, corn and green beans in with the white rice. I enjoyed the 'frijoles' which came in the form of a thick black paste. Chef Paco's Tacos (3 for $18) come with onions, cilantro, sour cream, and rice & beans on the side. My wife gave them a 3.5/5 as the steak was dry. #justice4carneasada The aptly named "fiesta mole" ($23) were six smothered enchiladas w/filling choices of chicken, chorizo, cheese, beans, or steak. I could only ascertain 2 of the 6 sauces (incl. the traditional 'poblano' w/chocolate, and 'pipian' green pumpkin seed). It would've been nice to know what the other varieties of 'mole' were......  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Bread = 4 Circuses = n/a (delivery) The tres leches ($11) was fine in terms of taste, but ridiculously overpriced for one serving. Every other restaurant we've been to prices this dessert between $4-7. To put this into perspective, an *ENTIRE* tres leches cake from a quality Mexican bakery costs about $23. It takes some cojones to charge half the cost of a cake for just a single piece. While we're on the topic, the sides of rice ($4) and beans ($4) struck me as expensive--we typically get these for $2.50 at Hecho en Oak Park. In fact, the overall cost of items here was my biggest hangup. I'm not sure if things are 20% costlier thru Grubhub or if New Rebozo just charges more than the competition (i.e. Maria's in Galewood, Tacabron in Forest Park). On a final note, I encountered an issue with online ordering. For my half dozen 'enchiladas de mole', I requested a balanced mix of chicken/cheese/etc. Their menu lists a "whole plate" of steak as an extra $4, meaning that were you to ask for all 6/6 to be carne asada, you'd be upcharged four bucks. I avoided doing this, and was hit with an extra $4 fee regardless which is simply maddening. * TL;DR * Cinco de Mayo 2020 was certainly a strange one, what with the current global situation and all. I've never missed out on the festive Mexican holiday and I'll be damned if that coronavirus is gonna stop this gringo from getting his fiesta on (narrator: it didn't). Chef Paco takes pride in his food and cares about his customers, but it's tough -- if not impossible -- to convey that warmth in takeout containers. Scarfing down reheated rice out of a styrofoam clamshell and having a hot plated dinner served to you in a restaurant atmosphere are two wildly different things. We'd recommend New Rebozo to friends and will come back for a dine-in meal once all this blows over, though we'll definitely steer clear of the extortionate tres leches. read more

Walking in, the hostess asks you to scan a menu to order from which is really nice and easy. Upon seating, the head chef himself came up to me and my date and explained all the chef's specials to us and they were all delicious. The restaurant has modern decorations, and it is just a nice environment. The bathroom was very clean too. Overall the food service and ambiance were just great. I love the food! It was great, and I love how the head chef came out and talked about the specials. I got chicken fajitas and they were delicious and very filling and definitely could be for two individuals. Ambience of the restaurant could be a little bit better, but was not too shabby and the interior is pretty cooly decorated. We stopped by last night and had a wonderful meal! I highly recommend the Enchiladas Indigenas as a vegetarian option - mashed potatoes and vegetables with so many flavors of sauces and spices- but fair warning: it packs some serious heat! A pomegranate margarita helped cool things off. Chef Paco came by several times to make sure we were having a good time. He's the best! The tables in the front are too close together for comfort for me so request a booth in the back or go out into the back garden patio once the weather warms. My wife and I came to check out the highly touted creative mole sauce inspired dishes by Chef Paco. We were not disappointed as the service was great and the food was even better. We ordered the fiesta mole plate that comes with 6 chicken & cheese enchiladas with very eloquent flavors of mole sauces. The sauces were all delicious and we had a couple of favorites that we really liked. This place is a nice change from what we've come to expect from a traditional Mexican restaurant. The fiesta mole, the poblano with pomegranate special...everything is amazing. Nothing on the level in the area. Chef Paco is so amazing that it hurts my feelings, just as a regular person and patron, to see trolls put this restaurant down, on the rare occasion I've seen that. MUST GO. Took my dad there for his birthday a while back. There was 10 of us and we were all excited to try this place. I ordered the chille relleno because I was intrigued by the pomegranate that it came with. That was one of the weirdest chille rellenos I have ever had. I don't know what it was about it but I didn't end up eating it and I ordered something different. The fiesta mole had enchiladas with all different types of sauces, that was really good. Obviously I'm one of the few people who didn't find this place outstanding as far as the food. Don't get me wrong the service was spectacular but the food, meh. Omg! N Rebozo is amazing! Food and drinks were all delicious and the service was excellent. Chef Paco even came by our table several times to explain some of the menu items and to check in on our food. The sope with hibiscus was an incredibly unique and creative appetizer with so many surprises and flavors. The main ingredient was hibiscus and just wow, so good. They had many many vegetarian options! The fiesta mole was also INCREDIBLE, the perfect progression of 6 moles where the last one seriously tasted like a dessert. Bold flavors and beautiful plating all around, that's my kind of meal. I live in Chicago where there are plenty of amazing restaurants but will definitely go out of my way to return to N Rebozo. :) read more

My family & I were in the area and decided to google the nearest restaurant. We found NRebozo yelp and decided to go there. Unfortunately for us we didn't realize it was a reservation only spot, BUT we came at the perfect time with the chef came out and asked if there was something he could help us with. I was more hungry and the kids too, luckily my husband and the chef connected and we got seated then and there. AND SOOOOOOO GLAD WE DID! NRebozo is now my & my husband's favorite restaurant. OMG so delicious!!! First of all it was a freezing day in Chicago and I was immediately greeted by chef Paco with a warm smile. I started my meal with a beautiful and delicious margarita. And I came for the mole even though the other specials and menu were extremely tempting. I had a bucket list of places to try while visiting and this place did not disappoint. The mole was amazing! What a wonderful experience! We started with Margaritas, I had the one with honey and my husband had a regular one. The tequila was smooth and generously poured. Best Margaritas around! I ordered the shrimp tacos. My mouth is watering as I am writing this as they were BY FAR the BEST shrimp tacos I have ever had... and I have had many from all over the country. The shrimp were plump and flavorful, the avocado fresh and perfectly ripe, the salsa was great. Thank you yelpers for helping me find this absolute gem! Chef Paco could not have been more genuine, friendly, and enthusiastic. His sales pitch with his iPad sold us on the poblano special, which was absolutely outstanding. It was the best stuffed poblano I've ever eaten. The poblano was roasted and stuffed with perfectly seasoned ground beef, which was topped with pomegranate seeds, on some awesome delicious sauce. Every bite was delicious and I was sort of bummed that we ordered it as an appetizer, because that meant sharing it with my husband and son! I wanted it all to myself. The next time I'm in the Oak Park area, I will eat here again. The chips and salsa were great too. We also tried the fish tacos and al pastor tacos. All solid orders.
