I ordered a coffee ice cream, which was light and sweet. Their "single" scoop portion is quite generous, and that's always nice. They also have a good little outdoor patio area where you can stand or sit on benches, as it doesn't really look like they're doing indoor seating at the moment (though there isn't much space inside either). read more

This isn't going to be one of those trendy spots to get ice cream -- it's not over the top and they don't do gimmicks (you know which ones I'm talking about), but damn, they do ice cream right. On a typical spring or summer evening, you can count on quite a line inside, but the employees move quickly and are friendly. And you don't need to feel guilty about asking to try a bunch of different flavors. Having tried MANY, my absolute favorite is the strawberry blonde. A twist on a good classic--you try it and see if you agree. They also do the traditional flavors, like chocolate peanut butter and Oreo cookies and cream, but you can count on some original concoctions, like their Pablo's coffee blend and their infamous, Seasonal Blue Moon. Can you guess what flavor it is? Just do it--get a waffle cone. Or go on Tuesday night and do Taco Tuesday with waffle cones and a few different flavors. Love love love me some Nuggs! First off, I think management deserves some kudos on hiring a stellar staff. The guys/ladies behind the counter are always super friendly, patient and willing to give samples with such great attitudes across the board. It's conveniently located next to my favorite bar in town so every now and then, we'll pop in for some ice cream. Never have we ever had a bad experience there. They even have punch cards for a free ice cream after so many visits. My ultimate favorite ice cream there is the Strawberry Blonde. It's basically the strawberry version of cookies and cream with strawberry ice cream mixed with blonde Oreos. OMG sooooo good! All in all, keep up the great work Nuggs! Nuggs is a friendly addition to Colfax. Many years ago there was a Dolly Madison ice cream parlor across the street but it has been gone for who knows how long. I went on Sunday evening around 8pm and there was another family with 3 kids enjoying their ice cream. They have fun designs for their flavors (created by a local graphic designer) and great options including ice cream sandwiches, shakes, malts, sundaes and more. A single scoop is $3.99 plus tax so reasonable and the portions are large. My ice cream sandwich included two huge scoops of Danger Monkey coffee and chocolate chocolate chip between two homemade chocolate chip cookies. It's definitely big enough for two to three people. This was $4.99 plus tax. They have 15-20 flavors including seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice (all the rage!) and the servers were polite and friendly. The parking lot is shared with the Abbey Tavern but there seems to be plenty. Definitely a place I'll be going to again and again. read more

We stopped by on a random weekday for some dessert after dinner. My fiancé got the Blue moon ice cream and no, it does not taste like the beer haha. It tastes like fruity pebbles. I got the double cookies and cream, and toffee ice cream. Both were good, but no wow factor. The only above average part of the experience was the Waffle cone. The ice cream seemed to melt really fast and was runny from the start as well. There is a parking lot so you don't have to worry about street or meter parking. The staff were nice even after we sampled almost every flavor lol. Just couldn't find the one that hit the spot. Lots of good classics to choose from but nothing ooo ahh. The wait is usually long and that is always a bummer at any ice cream shop on a hot sunny day but the ice cream flavors and texture at Nuggs is always good. They DO NOT have the biggest flavor selection which is disappointing but still the ice cream is good! The staff is always really nice to the kids so that is definitely a plus! But can we talk about the parking lot.... ugh! Just shoot me. I moved to CO from the east coast. We had a homemade ice cream joint that was amazing and I was on the hunt for the comparable out here. To be able to find one locally that competes with back east, was a task I've been working on but one I can say I've now completed. Nuggs is amazing and my parents who were in town completely agreed! I love the homemade flavors and service you get. The patio is dog friendly and kid friendly and everyone just enjoying their ice cream and each other's company. Okay so the first thing I don't like about Nuggs: It shares a parking lot with one of my favorite bars/trivia hangouts; it's too easy to go to. The second thing I don't like about Nuggs: Ice cream has too much sugar and is bad for you. Now that I've got that out of my system. It's delicious, they have wicked cool flavors, the crews that work there are all super friendly and seem like they're genuinely having a great time. It's an awesome place to get a cone or bowl or chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream IV Bag and hang out inside or on the patio and people watch and chill. The ice cream has been really great in terms of all of the flavors I've tried - save the salted caramel. That one felt aggressively average to me. But the cookie dough and the Oreo and the coconut all have, like, shockingly large portions of the named additives in it. Lots of actual coconut. Lots of actual sizable Oreo chunks. Some places don't do that. This place does. This place is good. Lastly, they are NOT screwing around on scoop sizes. Two-scoop cone? Yeah ENJOY YOUR SUGAR. Plenty of ice cream, plenty of cone. Considering the length of the line, it moved pretty quickly, and the staff was friendly. I tried the lemon cookie ice cream before committing to a flavor, and I'm glad I did because I didn't really care for it. I didn't wanna be the guy who samples a million flavors, so I quickly decided on birthday cake and cookie dough in a waffle cone. Nuggs! My neighborhood ice cream joint. On a nice day, I can walk here in less than 15 minutes. There's so many unique flavors to choose from, but I usually go with strawberry. With real bits of berry inside the ice cream, get it on a sugar cone. Classic summertime treat. Adults love the ice cream taco Tuesday specials and kids go wild for the blue flavored ice cream. OMG I DREAM about the oreo cookie ice cream. They grind up the dark oreo pieces really small so the ice cream is darker. Then they mix in the oreo filling in chunks. It's to die for! I have tried a few other flavors and they're really good. But OH THE OREO! Along with Liks, my favorite ice cream in Denver. Nuggs definitely doesn't get the hype that Little Man, Sweet Action, or Bonnie Brae, but it's way more delicious - and that's what matters! Ok, Little Man is yummy, but I'm not always in the mood for their flavors since they're limited and unique. Also, the staff is great. One dude there always gives me way more than he should.
