I've lived in small towns and large cities in the south and I've had my share of Chinese take out - some tastes much better than Number One Chinese Restaurant and others not as good, but I rank this near the top for customer service. It's nice to walk in and hear the man behind the register greet regular customers by name and ask if they want the usual. It has a "Cheers!" atmosphere. Every time I have gone in there to pick up my order, I usually order something different. He always engages me in conversation, which is rare in today's fast-food society. My recommendations based on what I've eaten from here, so far: Don't bother with the Mongolian Beef unless you like it heavy on onions and mushrooms. Crispy noodles that came with my egg drop soup weren't so crispy, but the soup was great. Bourbon Chicken might become my favorite. It's good! Broccoli Chicken was good. Broccoli tasted fresh and the chicken was tender. Sesame Chicken was so-so. The sesame seeds had not been toasted so their flavor was too mild for my taste and they seemed to be more for garnish than for flavor. Egg rolls were acceptable from this kind of restaurant. The White Rice is superb! The Fried Rice was not the best I've had but soy sauce helped make it better. The service is good. The place is clean. The front employee is friendly. Food was delicious. Carry out was confusing. After asking other customers in line what to do. I have to wait in the same (huge) line while my food was getting cold on the shelf. We were tired so decided to just get quick take out. Been here several times and its always good. You order online, phone in or in person at the window. You can't go in. They have chalkboards they put in the window with the last four digits of your phone number so you can see when your order is ready. It's obvious they cook to order and take pride in there food. Unlike soo many similar places the food was not overcooked and was tender. Sauces were excellent, very flavorful and on some dishes you have the option of making it less or extra spicey. The young lady at the window had a great smile and attitude and made sure you got everything you needed before she gave you your food. My husband and I have almost lived here a year and was looking around for a Chinese joint. After having Chinese in New York, this place comes pretty close. Even for what it is, a cheap strip mall restaurant, the quality is quite poor. If you want your tofu to be chewable, or for more than one out of four pieces of orange chicken to actually contain some chicken, or for spring rolls to be crispy, you will need to look elsewhere. This is the best cheap chinese takeout in south vero. So what if it's the only place that fits those criteria, but it's really good.

We order from here fairly regularly - we have tried several dishes and we usually like them. I think the prices are reasonable and they seem to have the food ready pretty fast (10 to 20 minutes). One criticism is we kind of wish the supposedly spicy dishes (appearing in red on the menu) were more (truly) spicy. A smiling & friendly guy behind the counter always helps. I think there is some room for improvement so I am giving them 4 stars. And I did have to drive back one time due to a mixup with the order. By the way, I think the "NY Style" must be a marketing ploy since there are plenty of retired or former NY-ers living in the Vero Beach area. read more

I just move to Vero Beach, a month ago. Find this restaurant to be the nearest. So I go even after I read the Shelly S.'s review. I actually went to this restaurant to try out the Krab Rangoon and the Orange Chicken. Well the Krab Rangoon and the Orange Chicken aren't bad at all. They taste pretty good, I actually kinda like it. I also tried General Tso Chicken that Cindy I. mention, ohh that is very good. I like it a lot. One thing I have mention, the Krab Rangoon come with a sweet n sour sauce, not the Orange Chicken, so don't add the sweet n sour sauce onto Orange Chicken. I think it might be what Shelly did. Yes i tired it. It doesn't taste good if you added. About the price, majority of the items are a little bit lower that the two restaurant (Palm Tree and No 1 Wok) near by it. There are very few items that is 10 cent higher. So it is definitely not what Shelly said it is higher than average Chinese take out.
