Amazing place to celebrate. They were the only restaurants in Great Barrington with their website updated to reflect being open on Christmas Eve. We called and spoke to Verne who was incredibly welcoming but could only offer seats at the bar that wouldn't have been appropriate for my young daughter. We appreciated the accommodating and honesty and thought that was that. Verne called back soon after when a lady minute cancellation meant a table was available, a small Christmas miracle. The ambience was exactly what we wanted. We were greeted warmly. Service was impeccable. Food was outstanding and one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything ok the menu was great. I was able to get a reservation on the same day and was really excited. Service was prompt and attentive. I ordered the NY strip medium-rare. When I got my dish, I didn't think it was medium-rare but didn't want to send it back and make a fuss, and it was dark inside the restaurant, so I couldn't really tell how raw the meat was and just kept eating it, mostly the edges. I got full pretty quick and probably ate 1/4th of the dish and decided to take it home. But the next day, I noticed that the steak was rare. Perfect char on the outside, but the cow was still mooing. Lesson learned: as a paying customer, just complain right there and then. The sides were great as usual, and so was the dessert. read more

Had a great dine in meal on a busy Saturday night. We started with duck arancini rice balls along with bone marrow appetizers. The rice balls were delicious but the bone marrow came with overly charred bread so it took away from any additional flavor from the bone marrow. Our party ordered the rib eye steak, ny strip, deluxe burger, and seared duck. Our sides included Mac and cheese, fries, and creamed spinach. The rib eye was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The fries were particularly good as well. I have been coming to the Berkshires every Fall for several years. The food scene is sketchy at best, especially in Great Barrington. Turnover is high. Restaurant hours are like a game of wack-a-mole. Random days closed. So after finding No. 10, I was thrilled to find that they are open 7 days a week at 5pm. Unheard of. I made a reservation for one and was warmly greeted by a lovely young lady who sat me in a cozy nook. There seemed to be many repeat diners. This is a steakhouse. Why I didn't get anything derived from an animal, I don't know. My server was Marisa and she was attentive throughout my meal. I ordered the Number Ten Fall Salad - delicata squash, dried cherries and pepitas on a pile of greens. It was tasty. I also ordered one of their Steakhouse Sides, the macaroni and cheese. Oh my. Many trips around the sun eating and making mac and cheese and this mac and cheese was the worst mac and cheese I've ever eaten. Dry. Un-cheesy. Tasteless. So if you eat here and order any side, choose a different one. Ambiance. Staff. Five stars. Salad. 3 1/2 stars. Mac and cheese. One star. Surprisingly good. We had been here before and were not impressed. But this time we had a good experience. First a lovely white Negroni -- a bit too sweet but ok. Then out came HUGE salads that can be easily split among 2-3 people. Veal chop was delicious. They do charge extra for sauce. Clam chowder was creamy but filled potatoes and not a lot of clams. I felt like it was a deconstructed version which was put together in the bowl. It had a little bit of everything because of this. Old fashioned steakhouse with lots of flavor. We started by sharing the wedge salad which was a huge portion with really big pieces of bacon and great ranch dressing loaded with blue cheese. We ordered the bakery bread It arrived warm, crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. We had the ribeye with mashed potatoes and the meatloaf dinner. This is a good restaurant, just a little bit short on ambience & food (3 star) and service (4 star). Small improvements would make it a 5 star. Food--a la carte--no problem, but you order a filet mignon, it shows up as a small dot on a big plate with parsley flakes or chives sprinkled around for "plating". Dress things up a little. Pretty good piece of beef but not the best.....one side dish mashed potatoes excellent; one side dish of mixed vegetables was bizarrely undercooked & unappetizing. Ambience--lighting so low it struck everyone as strange; a little bit more decor to warm up the warm to make it a bit more welcoming would be nice. Service was friendly & attentive without being hovering. To be fair, that was one visit. I'm willing to try again. It's also home to a beautiful bar, which might be nice to hang out at. read more

Very warm greeting on a busy Saturday evening. Our party of 4 was placed in the front window-- you'll need phone flashlights to read the menu. A 'dry' group, can't comment on drinks -- 'family style' portions means bring your appetite! Complimentary warm bread arrived with fresh beet salad, delicious but no discernable dressing. Salt and pepper to the rescue. Bone marrow with sauteed mushrooms-- (new to us)-- is an acquired taste and a steakhouse staple. Filet mignon and braised beef nicely cooked but not memorable. From the moment I walked in the door at this place, my experience could not have been better. The woman who greeted us at the door smiled and sat us at the closest table to the door, which was very helpful as I am recovering from spinal surgery and I wouldn't have been able to enjoy the food otherwise. The place is decorated with framed photographs of famous jazz musicians on the walls. We sat beneath Nat King Cole, whose wonderful smile and charm graced us and reminded me that I have to still lose another 20 lbs before I can even think of fitting into anything better than my current wardrobe of stretchy pants and t-shirts. I have never seen a photo of any jazz musician pre 1960 wearing anything less than a suit and tie. I had a very tasty medium NY strip steak (which was actually served at medium temp, not the usual medium well or well that you usually get when you order a steak medium in a restaurant- kudos to the chef!), a side of mashed potatoes, and 3 root beers (my girlfriend drove home so no problem there). The mashed potatoes were not dry and were whipped with just a hint of butter and my girlfriend and I both shared and enjoyed the generous portion. Gf ordered a nicely cooked trout, which was about a 12"er, which, for my money, is the sweet spot of size-to-taste ratio for trout. Anything bigger and the taste generally diminishes and anything much smaller and you risk getting your fishing license and gear confiscated by the game warden. Try this little gem of a spot next to GB's premier music, etc. venue - the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center. The only thing I would,recommend is checking the schedule of the venue to make sure that you don't try to walk in without a reservation on the night of a show lest you be turned away and forced to eat at a restaurant of lesser quality. I may be back in October to see Josh Blue, my newest favorite comedian, and if I am, I'll try to get reservations here again. read more

Wow, omg so good we called ahead luck would have it they were taking reservations we were able to get in at 730 on a Sunday. First of all I said don't you close at 830 . The person on the other end said no we're busy we will take your reservation. We arrived at 712 pm and were promptly seated . The decor was nice it was dark but I had already looked up reviews and Knew exactly what to order. Split the wedge salad between us and as the reviews said it was enough for two people huge chunks of blue cheese and the bacon chunks as well not strips but flavorful chunks so good . I ordered the ribeye for me and strip steak for My wife medium rare. Wow so tender and flavor was just right .Side of mashed potatoes with a garlic flavor so good ,the wife had the vegetables . She ordered a bottle of California merlot which went well with the beef . I can't forget the waiter she was attentive and charming. The food with every mouthful was incredible. The food was excellent and the main courses were great value for money. We started with the summer salad which was simple but fresh and delicious. We shared the brisket and the rib steak both which were excellent. Sides were good. Service was just ok. Our waiter didn't greet us or introduce himself and went right into what do you want to drink. We didn't get bread and when I saw others were getting some I asked about it and he seemed surprised that we didn't get it then got it for us. We got our meals pretty quickly and we were finished and out of the restaurant within an hour of getting there. Our waiter also never came by to see how our food was. So food was 10/10. Service was a 7. Not sure if hard to find staff or he was overwhelmed but took away from an otherwise excellent meal. Would still highly recommend. read more

Six of us stopped in for a drink at the bar last night at 7:00 before a show at The Mahaiwe. When we walked we said just going to get a drink at the bar and headed towards it and the host said sorry there are no seats at the bar and we said that's okay we can stand, just going to have one. He said no standing at the bar and if we want to sit the earliest he could seat up was 8:30. Never heard of such a thing, so anti business and anti customer. As a business owner myself I wouldn't go back there even if they were giving away free drinks. So we went around the corner to The Well restaurant, awesome place. 3 deep at the bar, food looked awesome and they were accommodating. Now I see why they were packed and 10 was not. read more

Excellent service. Generous portions. Steak done "black and blue" to perfection, which is often difficult. The ribeye was excellent quality--and I grew up on a beef farm. I would have preferred a cut for one still on the bone, but that wasn't available. I didn't care for the creamed spinach that others raved about, but that is a matter of taste--more cheese sauce than spinach, and the spinach itself was ground beyond texture to mush. Clean restroom. Pleasant smaller room--not cavernous. I wondered how they water the wall-hanging plants--thy must need ladders! We stopped on the way home from a Sunday concert at Tanglewood and had no problem parking a pickup in town. read more

Great ambiance. The menu is simple but covered all the angles. Steaks were delicious... grilled perfectly. Sides are large enough for the table to share, so although they are a'la carte... worth the price. Fantastic fresh greens in the salad. Our main complaint was the service. Our server had the personality of Wednesday Addams. Not friendly, barely smiled, offered nothing to the dining experience. Her service attitude was more suitable to a diner than the type of restaurant you are trying to present. Delicious!! Wedge salad and French onion soup to start, soup was the best I've had while here in the Berkshires. We had filet mignon and ribeye for mains; mashed potatoes, string beans and mushrooms for sides. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and had amazing flavor. We had a great experience at Number Ten. Traditional steak house menu with the basics you would expect, all done VERY well. We had the shrimp cocktail appetizer. A good serving size of shrimp and a DELICIOUS house made cocktail sauce. Great seasoning - not just ketchup and horseradish. Rest of the family was dipping bread when the shrimp was gone! Two people order the filet, medium rare. Great sear on the steak and cooked to temp as requested. The steaks were tender and really tasty. One ordered the NY Strip. Hash marks from the grill, good hard sear especially on the edges but also cooked to temp perfectly. The chimichurri sauce was excellent. The wine sauce very tasty. The horseradish cream was a miss though - all cream and not nearly enough horseradish. The sides were excellent. Mac and Cheese was decedent. The mushrooms were a huge serving and tasty. The mashed were creamy, garlicy, goodness. We had NO room for desert unfortunately. There is a bar sections with seating, a traditional restaurant seating area, and some outdoor tables. The server was excellent. The setting is comfortable, clean, not extravagant but not informal either. The crowd was a mix of people dressed up and very causal, all seemed to fit. Have dined at this restaurant many times and always had an excellent experience. Last night food was terrific, but our server Matt was inattentive and borderline hostile throughout. When I asked him to box up the remainder of my large beautiful hamburger, he tossed it out. When I questioned him upon returning to the table he told me it wasn't on the plate. Crazy! I asked him if something was going on, as he had never treated us this way before. He just walked away. My husband, who is always a class act gave him a tip anyway. It was such an unpleasant experience that I reached out to the restaurant, something I never do. The owner called and told me he sided with his server Matt, as he had worked with him for 7 years. Basically would not even apologize for the experience. Won't set foot in their establishment again. So many other places to go with beautiful food and bright service. Came to visit our daughter in collage and after driving 4 + hours from South Jersey, we just wanted a good steak, wanted to try this place but they wouldn't take us when their hours were till 9pm and we got there 40 mins before closing . We told them about their hours online and how we drove from so far but it didn't seem like they cared. We love Number 10!!! We dined there last evening. We first enjoyed a delicious shrimp cocktail, which was very fresh and crisp! For our entrees we each had a Caesar Salad and Rib-eye steak. The rib-eye was so tender and cooked to perfection, by far the best this group has ever had! Kudos to the wonderful chef. The Caesar salad was very crisp and the dressing was to die for!
