Great little bar in GB! Stopped in to watch the game and meet up with a friend and ended up having connections with three different people in the place. So random but neighborly at the same time.

Came here the other day for dinner on a Wednesday night around 6:30. Luckily we were able to be seated right away but soon after it got super busy and there was more of a wait. Nice menu, lots of options. The quesadilla was not my favorite. I would recommend some of the other menu items instead. My parents enjoyed the salmon and cobb salad they got. It was a pretty long time until the food was ready so good for people who are ok with a leisurely dinner.

Food was great!! I had the Adventurous Burger and it was delicious!!! Cooked perfect and quite the creation. Nice and small place, cozy environment. Really decent prices for great quality and portions. Highly recommend!!!!

    Cider Honeybee- fall cocktail 10/10

LOVED it. What a great place to stop in the middle of a road trip. The Cider Honeybee fall cocktail was absolutely delicious. The sliders were the perfect snack to split. Our server was outstanding. (I'm pretty sure she was the only other than the bartender.) The small parking lot is about a block and a half away but easy to find. Thankful we found this little spot in Great Barrington.

I had the local salad and the French onion soup, my husband had the mac & cheese with bacon, and both were happy. Each of us had a cocktail as well and they were good. However, we ordered the sliders to go for our son, cooked medium, and were very disappointed when we got back to our hotel room to see them cooked rare.

Food quality / price (value) rating 9. This place is a little bit tricky to find, but it is there! It's below sidewalk level and down a set of stairs, and definitely worth looking for! The owner, Jonathan, typically in attendance, has committed his considerable energy to preparing and serving top quality dishes. One long lost pleasure I enjoyed was HOME-MADE onion rings - sliced sweet Spanish onions dipped in house made batter and fried to perfection. I'd almost forgotten what real food tastes like! No pre-prepared plastic bagged frozen crap here! (I would, however, recommend eating all your onion rings while they're fresh, as they don't reheat well.) They offer a pub/tavern style menu, a full bar, and a limited but well chosen draught beer list I had lunch here while sitting at their ten seat bar, a Blackened Chicken sandwich (with the aforementioned onion rings) and everything was prepared and presented very nicely. The chicken was moist and spicy and cooked properly, where typically most chefs believe that "blackened" means "burnt". The service was great as were the prices. I was, however, overcharged $2.00 for my sandwich, and didn't notice until I'd left. I also was unable to get any answer regarding how often they change the "specials". Overall, it was a pleasure finding a good restaurant in Great Barrington, a city known for its shortage of eating establishments. They have a very nice sidewalk table area that allows diners to enjoy the beauty of the Victorian style Main Street, which is very walkable and one should plan to take a stroll while here. I look very forward to returning!

Delicious food. Lots of good options. Good wines. Quick friendly service. We got fish & chips and steak. Each was enough for 2 meals, and were both very tasty. We asked to move outside bc it it was so loud inside. Really a 4.5-.5 for noise level. Would definitely return.

Went in for a burger, very quaint downstairs pub style place. We sat at the bar, and the bartender, Matt was excellent, very friendly and attentive. I ordered the regular burger with sweet potato fries, it was cooked to perfection and the fries were amazing. My sister ordered the CFCG burger, a burger without a bun, with regular fries, also cooked to perfection. My brother in law ordered the buffalo wings and a quesadilla, the sauce on the wings was delicious and they were a good size. Quesadilla was also good, half going home, not to mention the cocktails were I will definitely go back, great spot for a romantic evening too.

Waited for an hour for the food and the owner wasn't even apologizing. Owner took so long time to figure out the math for the bills.

My sister-in-law had the Mexican tacos. I had chicken burrito, which was huge and delicious. My wife had a vegetarian quesadilla that had more spinach than she'd ever seen anywhere. The food is very good, the servers right on top of things, and the atmosphere remains delightfully downscale funky. What more, you ask, could I ask for? Here's what gets us going: consistency. Every time we come by here our meal is as good as the last time, and we leave already eager for a return visit sooner rather than later. As ever, the chicken tortilla soup is heavenly, the tangy broth complemented by the cilantro, chicken strips and fresh, crunchy tortillas. Ah..... They offer up some good drinks -- think margarita, mojito, etc. -- and also a tasty mango limeade and a soft, chocolatey, sumptuous Mexican hot chocolate, perfect on a chilly afternoon. We're fans, obviously. And we think you'll find much to enjoy if you drop by. It's right off downtown Main Street, not always easy to spot, however, and there's plenty of parking in the rear.

Upon arriving, our table was ready up near the front window which allowed for fun people-watching. Our waiter did a good job - drinks were fine, menu was a bit limited if one is looking for a nice entree offering, but we selected hangar steak, fish & chips, homemade pasta bowl, etc and they were fine. The one problem which turned a perfectly good experience into one which all of my guests commented on was that after dropping $500 moments earlier, we waited by the host's stand to use the restroom, and each time the waiter/owner? passed by, he said excuse me in an irritated manner, even though a couple times he wasn't even bringing any food out. We were not blocking the passageway nor creating any noise - just waiting for the restroom after dining at their establishment. A little attitude adjustment for his guests' patronage (or an additional restroom) would've made all the difference in whether guests would choose to return to his establishment. Ah well.. thank goodness we in the Berkshires have lots of wonderful options!

Seasonal vegetable plate was just ok, and expensive for what it was (grilled vegetables). Beverages were good though : had glass of Barbara wine and a NA beer.

A Community Venue Changed…read more The Egremont Barn, now operating as Buttonball Barn, was once a cornerstone of local music and community gathering. Because of our long-standing connection to the space, my husband and I chose it for our wedding celebration, placing our deposit with the previous owners, who were professional and supportive throughout the process. After the property changed ownership, we still proceeded with our event in October. This celebration held particular significance, as my father was seriously ill at the time, and we were grateful he was able to attend. Unfortunately, our experience with the new ownership raised serious concerns about professionalism, transparency, and respect for both clients and staff. On the day of the event, the owner attempted to impose additional charges not outlined in our contract. This included a demand for a $500 fee for using a room to get ready--a space she had explicitly told me I could use earlier in the day, noting it was acceptable despite the building being under construction. While I was getting ready, she entered the room while my mother and a family friend were assisting me and removed a rug from beneath them, stating that I "wasn't supposed to use the room all day." I chose not to address this at the time in order to preserve the tone of the day. Throughout the event, the owner was also openly drinking at the open bar, which had been paid for by my father. As the night concluded, she insisted that I personally break down the entire venue either immediately or first thing the following morning--despite knowing I had family visiting--or I would be charged for a cleaning crew. This expectation had not been communicated beforehand and was not included in the contract. When I suggested discussing it the next day, she continued to press the issue and confronted my husband, who attempted to redirect the conversation. To avoid further escalation, my friends and I cleaned the venue that night--while I was still in my wedding dress. She later stated that she would retain space heaters I had purchased in exchange for waiving the disputed room fee. When I noted that none of these charges or arrangements were contractually agreed upon, she responded, "I'm expensive, and I'm not in the contract either, honey," in reference to her being casted on The Real Housewives of New York City. Additionally, her conduct toward long-standing staff members--many of whom had supported the venue for years--was concerning and contributed to an atmosphere that felt transactional rather than community-centered. Some of those staff members have since left the venue. What was most troubling was the timing and context. The attempts to extract additional money occurred at the end of a wedding celebration involving a seriously ill parent, placing unnecessary stress on a family during an already significant moment. The Egremont Barn once represented collaboration, music, and mutual respect. Under its current ownership, that spirit appears to have shifted toward aesthetics and revenue at the expense of community and care. I encourage readers to proceed with caution, ask detailed questions, and ensure all expectations are clearly documented in writing before booking events there.
