Nuts for the nutty! The best usage for this place is to purchase gift boxes or baskets for networking or other scenarios where fruits, nuts, coffee and trail mixes are appropriate. As a bonus, when spending over a certain amount, free coffee, tea or a macaroon is your reward. They have a few gift options to choose from ranging from wooden boxes to lacquered baskets. Prices range according to the option you choose. They are working on dividers for the boxes so be aware that your items will be placed in the box with prices covered. There is a small seating area for consumption of their drinks and a small selection of pastries. However, this space holds 10 or less. The thin glass front door closes like a reinforced bank vault. The petite worker quickly reinerates " hey the door is loud, right?!" She is way too adorable. Nutbox has coffee similar to Zabar and Whole Foods. The snacks are rather natural. Nuts, seeds, and fruits. Cannot go wrong. The prices on both are about on par with the bigger stores. The sales basket is about 25% cheaper. A large coffee with a shot of espresso is two bucks. The mini pastry was a buck. The dining area is about the size of a NYC train seat. The music was Jersey Boys (the musical) friendly. If you are looking for a writing change of pace, try them. There is no wifi. No plugs. But the character and the goodies compensate well. read more

Great place for bags of dried fruits and nuts. They are open into the evening so it is always convenient when I stop in on the way from work. My favorites are the goji berries and banana chips. They have the best prices in all of NYC seriously - sometimes rivaling Trader Joe's. Their trail mixes are super affordable - under $10 per bag. I enjoy shopping at the Upper West Side Nutbox store because it is, A) very close to home, and B) a terrific source for delicious nuts, dried fruits, spices, various types of nut butters, and a whole host of other yummy treats. It helps that the staff is very cordial and friendly, too. Unlike one other review here, I feel the quality at Nutbox is vastly superior to Whole Foods. Nutbox offers organic and conventional, though I sometimes wish there were more organic items than conventional. I have always been satisfied by the freshness of their products. Things I usually buy are: all varieties of nuts, either roasted or raw; Medjool dates; all varieties of raisins; freshly made cashew, almond and peanut butters, and dark chocolate covered cashews...YUM! I recently created my own mix of their roasted salted peanuts and dried, salted peas...visually attractive and so delicious! I'm so surprised that people know how to tell the difference between nut quality of the same species. I really like this place, and I'm always tempted to try all their different nuts. This place has great quality nuts, and other products like my favorite oriental mix. Since I have to be at in this area all the time it is nice to sit down for a little in the seating area, and drink a tea or coffee. I think the Nutbox is great! I really like the tea and nut selection (I love the peanuts...they also have an abundant collection of walnuts, exotic nuts, almonds, dried fruit, and spices). The staff is also super friendly and so is the owner. The owner is very knowledgeable about health trends and gives advice on what smoothie a customer should get based on their mood. Overall, the UWS spot is a great neighborhood find because it's quiet, bright and bonus point: it's an awesome work/date spot (they have inexpensive snacks to nosh on). read more

The nuts had no taste. I went back again to buy a different kind and it still was like crunching something tasteless. Also the woman working there was gossiping with her friends both times. I pass by after work and I always see the same people in there chatting with her otherwise it is empty. It feels like a very cliquey environment. read more

I discovered one of my favorite smoothies here over the summer. I really like this place but I feel it's a bit expensive I can find something cheaper in bulk in Costco or online. I tried their dried mango and finished it in a day but the banana and date smoothie is always my fav. It reminded me of one of my favorite smoothies in Miami, called Green Monkey and a similar one in LA, the smoothie breakfast, that has the same ingredients but just banana, dates and coconut water or milk and it's something I can make at home now I have a blender. I really like how it's in the UWS area but the prices are a bit steep for some of the items and portions. Try their smoothies, it's bomb. read more

A very nice addition to our neighborhood, Nutbox is inviting and a very fun store to peruse and pick up some nice treats! They have great walnuts (which I eat a ton of) and cost less than I was paying at other stores. What I love the most is that you can buy organic, fair trade coffee (even decaf!) that they will grind for you if you want. I was having to go to Whole Foods for my coffee as none of the other coffee shops in our neighborhood have organic, but now can just walk down the street! Rohit was very nice and even waved at me when he saw me walking by the shop one day. If you live in the neighborhood, you should definitely check them out. read more

Literally the worst macarons I've ever had. In all fairness, I will fully admit to being a macaron snob. However, I physically couldn't stomach the lavender flavor because it was so bad. The cookies were extremely dry, with huge air pockets; and the filling were buttercream not ganache, so it seems that whoever made these just hasn't been properly taught how to make macarons. I'm giving it two stars because the staff was very friendly and warm, the only saving grace of that macaron catastrophe. read more

Godze was incredibly kind and offered to help with no questions asked. We gave The Nutbox a try with open minds -- indeed we had hoped they would be a welcome addition to Broadway in the 100s. Their "freshly made" almond butter proved to be quite rancid, and their "Healthy Mix" of nuts and dried fruits was completely stale. Returned the items -- the lone minion at the store (no manager present) had no authority to offer a refund, so we accepted an exchange on the nuts/fruits, and tried a bag of their organic raisins because they were out of almond butter. The second, supposedly "just delivered" bag of Healthy Mix was if anything even more ancient than the first bag, and the raisins were of low quality. Despite the "Product of USA" labeling on many of their items, I think The Nutbox is obtaining their nuts, fruits, etc. from cheap, low quality imported sources, packing them in the U.S., and trying to pass them off as the real McCoy. Avoid The Nutbox and give your custom to Whole Foods, Fairway, Zabars, or another more reputable, higher quality provider -- the prices will be the same or lower, and you'll be far happier, and probably healthier, too. read more

The 1-pound bags of shelled pecan halves in the window looked beautiful, but the processing plant they use obviously does not blow or wash away the pecan shells' bitter dust. Even Diamond pecans are better, although they weren't as "pretty" to look at. Such a disappointment because I like to frequent independent businesses in my neighborhood. read more
