On occasion shop for items at this W. 116 C-Town Fresh Market for produce or the odd stuff I may not find elsewhere close by. It's not that big. While some prices are fair, others can be a little high. This C-Town is the only supermarket around here that requires you check your other shopping bags when you enter. I'm having a lot of trouble replacing Western Beef. CTown is just too small. They carry just enough to get your hopes up, then it disappoints. I needed to buy some Oscar Myer deli meats for a cash-back offer. They had two kinds and none of them were on my list. They only carry Goya products. I'm trying to boycott them but they have such a lock on small supermarkets. Plus they don't have salad olives. I'm not going back to pitting olives dammit. The sherbet, which I've been looking for for months now, was covered in rime. They looked like they had been defrosted then refrozen. They have sales, thank God because the regular prices are high even on Krasdale store brand stuff. On the plus side, the staff is unusually friendly. It's like you're in a whole other city, they're so nice. The quest continues. read more

Affordable grocery at its best in Harlem NYC. It's a smaller grocery store by suburban standards but huge by city standards. Their bags are thick and can be reused for longgggg time. I would go back again read more

Always have fresh produce, and shelves are always fully stocked. Meat prices are higher than Lidl, the other grocery store in the neighborhood. But Ctown has really good frozen items and a fresh bread section of Italian heroes and rolls that are amazing. I don't even use regular sliced bread anymore. Only the fresh bread. read more

Really affordable supermarket. Chicken breast for 3 dollars. All of the basic really cheap. If you go in and get a bunch of stuff for the week, it will cost about 35 dollars total. Easy way to save money. read more

I love this market. Produce and stock is always fresh. It's clean and well organized. Prices are excellent. Staff are friendly and gracious. You will find a combination of mainstream staples -- Progresso Soup, Colavita Olive Oil, etc. -- and goodies from the Caribbean. Wish it were closer to my house. read more

"C"-Town subconsciously self-proclaimed its rating... a C, average, mediocre, and just plain basic. When I first moved to SoHa I was uber stoked to have a grocery store right on my block, but my excitement soon faded upon entering this store. C-Town is is a super small, super packed grocery store that leaves its veggies in the boxes (until sold I assume), its fruit ( or the little they have I should say) unkept, and its meat all over the place. I literally found a pack of meat next to a box of Honey Bunches of Oats. The aisle in this store are very close together - typical NY I guess. Besides the above things C-Town is a good place to go if you need to pickup medicine, juice, candy, or any other prepackaged item. I will say that C-Town has great management/staff. Ever time I go here someone opens the door for me, hands me a basket, takes my basket when I'm done, and bids me good day. If only I could judge this place on the staff alone it would receive 5 stars, but sadly the main components of a grocery store is in fact its grocery's. And C-Town leaves much to be desired. read more

Oh my! C Town is now carrying gourmet staples like sun dried tomatoes, bonybel cheese and other assorted things that I either have to drag myself up to the shops on Broadway, Whole Foods or Fine Fair. They're starting to run decent specials, but their lamb chops suck and I wish they had smaller sweet potatoes. They seem to be getting better, which is why I gave it three stars, but you still have to make sure the sell by date hasn't passed. It no longer smells, but I wish they had better fruit selection. Still if I have to grab something quick, I am usually pleasantly surprised by what they have. And they have lots of dog treats- this is a very good thing-if I'm out of dog treats, my dog won't let me in the house. read more

While I like to think I have the stamina to go all the way to West Side Market for grocery shopping, during the winter I simply can't be bothered and I either opt for Fresh Direct or, when I need just a few things, the nearby C-Town. When I lived down in Brooklyn, C-Town was a major part of my life and was always a little surprised at some of the things they carried. The truth is, I've been able to find items that were totally absent from places like Morton Williams up on Broadway. C-Town is where I like to go for essentials -- pasta, rice, tuna, etc. Even some produce and meat, but only if I'm going to be cooking it that day. I'm always a little wary but I've never had my party ruined because I got rotten food from C-Town. They do indeed have fast and courteous deli counter. Also, always make sure you walk out of there with a sweet potato pie. The prices are competitive. I figure that any money I think I'm saving from going elsewhere is eaten by the time it takes to get there. It's nice to have a place close to home. read more

Only go here if you need something that you don't have to put into your body. The beef gave me food poisoning, and sometimes looks like it hasn't been stored properly. The cramped isles kill me, because there is always that big ol' mama who takes up the entire isle and has a problem sharing it with you. On a good note, Ive never had to wait in the line, they are quick getting you out. For such a shitty place they do have a good beer selection thou, if you're willing to pay for it. Rite Aid on 117th and 8th has good beer for cheap too... BUUTTT, now that Best Yet opened on 8th and 118th why do you even need C-town?? Best Yet is Chimay, and C-Town is Naddy Light, it will still do the job, but it will be tough to swallow. Final verdict: go to Best Yet! They rule! read more

agreed all that is written including the fact that chicken, and fruit go very bad after one day....dairy is okay.., specials on grocery items are not bad...can't beat those 3 dozen egg specials when you're only eating the whites..need to check bags when entering, at first it was insulting, now I enjoy shopping without the xtra bags..--deli people fastest in city, , and non-Muzak (sp?) can't be beat....for the present neighborhood you would think the prices would be better, but as competitive as anywhere else (except for eggs)... read more

Don't buy meat from here. I bought about 5 trays of meat from this store 2 days ago. Just as I was about to prepare one of the chicken trays, the meat was no good. It had a bad smell so naturally I was taking it back. In fact, I packaged all the other 4 remaining trays and set out to return it. Of course the 4 remaining trays were in my freezer - I took them anyways. I usually don't get meat from C-Town, but because of the blizzard, I went there. I went back to them and spoke with the manager - now get this - he wanted to see a receipt. I disposed of the receipt. Why would I keep a receipt from 2 days prior and their address is clearly on their meats anyways. The manager only allowed me to get credit for the opened packaged which was $6.10. When I used the credit,it came up to $6.53. The cashier told me I needed to pay 43 cents. I asked her if she was out of her dam mind. Here it is, I lost $15.00 from the other trays and you're asking me to pay more. I kept asking the manager for information on his superiors and he acted like he didn't understand me or didn't want to divulge info- meanwhile he was talking to someone in the upper ceiling in some dam box. As I proceeded to leave, he was telling me to take the other frozen chicken I bought to him. I cursed his ass out., and told other remaining customers not to buy their meat. The nerve of them - not wanting to take their merchandise back and their address logo is clearly written on it. Again, don't buy their meat - it's not worth it. Go to Pathmark and spend the extra money. At least you'll have fresh meat. read more
