I also needed hand soap and a bit of a wild card, balloons. I walked out with none of those. They didn't have my favorite cough drops, the sugar free kind or the regular kind. The soap selection was very sparse, as if it was just the beginning of Covid 19, and all of the hand soap was a mission to find. And the balloons I understand aren't a regular inventory for a drugstore, but they didn't have any of those either. Other than that the store looked very clean. There were people stocking shelves, not any of the ones that interested me. I didn't utilize the pharmacy so I can't comment on that.

Riley Farrell, one of the stock shelvers at this Walgreens, might need a refresher on what shelves are for. Last week, I came in for toothpaste and found it wedged between dog treats and shampoo. The week before, I watched him spend 10 minutes trying to open a box of cereal... with a pen. He's friendly enough, but he shelves items like he's playing a game of hide-and-seek. I get that everyone has off days, but when the greeting cards end up in the freezer aisle, we might have a problem. Come for the deals, stay for the scavenger hunt, I guess.

In addition to that, the CVS app won't let you order a prescription in advance, to be filled the day it is due. So, for instance, if you take a drug that requires physician approval for each refill and the due date is on a Saturday, you have to wait until Monday to submit the refill. Then, depending on how busy your doctor's office is, the scrip might not get refilled until Tuesday. So, if it's a drug you need to take every day and only have enough to get from one refill date to the next, you have to go for several days without the medication. How stupid. So, I went back to Walgreens (I only switched to CVS because our Walgreens in Old Lyme closed), even though the one in Essex is farther away. Friendly staff and I can order in advance using their website or app.

Overall SPECIFICS: I have stood in the long lines with other "regulars" most of whom are older, and have visable health issues; many with little to no technology skills, who rely on the person behind the counter. I have listened and watched pharmacy staff treat people as if they are doing them some kind of favor, many are already annoyed before a person even speaks; staff has been short, immediately dismissive, looking to prove someone wrong; lastly both through observations and personal experiences, staff here are not helpful unless pushed to be. For myself I do everything i can beforehand so I can just go in, pick up, and leave. That is untill I decided two days in a row to use the drive through where Jason resides - condescending, short, annoyed, unhelpful - which is why I decided to come in to talk with the head pharmacist, and her annoyed reaction told me all I needed to know... For my "SPECIFICS" i will use two VERY BUSY CVS's where I am not a regular - Anaheim CA and Georgetwon DC to explain the difference from Old Saybrook. Both of these CVS's staff worked with me to get my needed medications even though it was sent to the wrong CVS; they worked to ensure I had enough meds for trip even factoring in potential travel delays; they also went to bat for me to get meds paid through my insurance - In CA and DC I DID NOT ASK FOR THIS - THEY JUST DID IT. Specifically my "HOME" CVS in Old Saybrook only wanted to prove my doctor sent the prescription to the wrong place and sent me away; my "HOME" CVS in Old Saybrook didnt even blink to help but instead had me pay $45 instead of $5 For years I have given this CVS a pass because it is overwhelmed but not anymore

Besides making routine prescriptions easy to manage and obtain, we also got our Flu and Shingrix vaccines there. When getting the first Covid 19 shot, they were the first to successfully direct us to a source, when all you could get during the initial rollout anywhere were busy signals or "no appointments left". They have been excellent in dealing with insurance companies and the complexities of dealing with the Oncology Dept of a major NYC hospital. We haven't thrown them a curveball yet they couldn't hit. Their prices are competitive but you won't get the same level of service at any price. It also has a wonderful gift shop that always has interesting gifts. Supporting KFP also supports a local business (not funding the acquisition of a major insurance company) and nourishes our community. I encourage everyone to fill their drug store needs mindfully and consider the gem that is KFP.

However the staff was…read moreabsolutely amazing and the selection they had was much different than the rest of the souvenirs shops in town. I went in with 2 of my friends and we were just "looking" to see if there was anything we couldn't live with out. I ended up walking out with a Montauk sweatshirt ( mind you the selection here was smaller than the other stores but better quality!) , a decal for my car ( in a color that none of the other stores had), and some zink oxide face sun block( because apparently in my 30's I am starting to get dark spots on my face ). This is the only store that had a different selection and had everything I had been looking for! The girl on the sales floor saw myself and one of my friends holding some things and looking at the clothing. She pointed out that there was a mirror that we could use to see how they looked. Once we had decided on what we wanted, she offered to hold all of our items up at the register. She wasn't pushy, she wasn't hounding us like most staff members do at these types of stores. When we were waiting at the register the gentleman( possibly the owner), was on the phone. He sounded as though he was speaking to one of his employees from a different location. We waited about 2-3 min before he hung up. He apologized for the wait and was very kind and concerned that we were waiting. He quickly rung us up and engaged in conversation with us. He was friendly and made us feel comfortable and as though we were valued customers. Summary: Check this place out before going to any others! The staff made our visit an experience and the items we got were 20 times better than the stuff the other stores carry.
