I eat here for lunch every few months. The price has crept up a bit...as of 4/10/17 its about 8.50. It was great when it was 6.99. Still the waitresses are very nice...and sometimes down right funny...and they are very attentive. Most of them have been around for years so it must be a nice place to work. NY Hibachi Buffet's best feature is the Hibachi Bar. The food is cooked to order and always delicious. The sushi bar is okay, but it has made my husband sick a few times. The food on the buffet is nothing more than your standard Asian themed American buffet, but is mostly served hot and with good flavoring. There have been several instances where I have encountered unsupervised kids placing their hands and fingers on the buffet with no regards to other patrons, which can be an appetite killer. My waitress was super nice, always on top of things. HUGE buffet of food. I started with the hibachi which was very tasty! They had 4 buffets full of hot foods, 2 of cold, plus a desert bar. I usually visit with my family and usually have had great service. This time, I went with friends and they counted our toddlers as part of the table to add on the automatic gratuity. Normally I will tip 20-30%, this time the service was horrible. Halfway thru the dinner, the bill was brought and never saw the waitress again. 20 minutes with no plates cleaned off and empty drinks. It's a buffet, they have 2 jobs. Keep the table clean and refill drinks. I shouldn't be forced to pay $8 for not being served. It had been a few years since I've been and wanted to try it out again. We arrived about 7:30pm on a Sunday so the dining room was fairly empty. The tables were clean and the floors were clear of dropped food and trash. Our server was nice and attentive, she kept our drinks refreshed without us having to ask for more. Now the food could have been better but it could also have been a lot worse. Some things tasted great and some things not so much. My kids loved the pizza, mac n' cheese and the ice cream though. There was four of us eating, our two year old was free and our seven year old was $5.50 and it was $13.50 for an adult, so our bill was about $37 (we had 3 waters and 1 sweet tea to drink). To be honest it'll probably be a while before we choose to go back again only because there are other places to get better quality food. read more

Made an account just to review this place. It was amazing! They had a huge sushi selection, the biggest I've ever seen. They had plenty of space at the bars so you were not bumping into anyone or feeling cramped at all. The staff was great and our wait wasn't to long at all. It was only me and my gf that went. **Be Aware*** We dine at NY Hibachi once in a while because the restaurant offers variety. Owner and some staffs are unprofessional, slow at clearing plates and etc but we still are regulars simply because there is no other chinese restaurant that offers variety in this area. I was disappointed, we found a 2-3 inch chain-like metal beads mixed with the seafood salad. We brought it to the staff's attention, she went and told the owner/manager. They seem angry and came over took our plate of food away rudely. WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR DISCOUNT! We just want to make sure there is not anymore of those metal beads in the salad. Then when we complain at register they charged us full price and the manager said he was sorry for bad service . I mean I don't mind paying for the food we ate mind you it was one plate each because the food was terrible and the service was worse but at least give a small discount for the bad service and having to get our own drinks. I ate at this restaurant tonight. We were a group of 4 along with my 6 month old daughter. I am a pretty regular customer. The food is usually pretty decent but tonight changed my whole perspective. Customer service means everything to me when I go out to eat. I have worked in the restaurant industry as a server for a while and it's very important to have good service when dining out. It makes or breaks your evening. Me and my boyfriend ate the buffet as usual, but our friends ordered off the menu. 30 minutes passed by and they still didn't have their food so I said something to the waitress and she did Nothing. So after about 10 more minutes passed by, I went and spoke to the person in charge. They went back to the kitchen to see what the issue was. Keep in mind: THEY WERE NOT BUSY. One of their meals finally came out and was cold.. while the other plate of food never showed up. Our waitress came to the table and was trying to figure out what we wanted to do. My friend was to the point where she didn't even want her food anymore. The waitress acted like Nothing was wrong and what was going on wasn't a big deal. After being patient for almost an hour, we let her know how unacceptable her service was. By the way, we sat there with empty drinks for most of the visit. She then proceeded to tell us we were rude and said "fuck you guys " and stormed away. She should NOT be working in a customer service environment. She talked to me and my friends in the most disrespectful way, and in front of my daughter. It got to the point where I asked to speak to the manager on the Phone (because she wasn't there ) I really hope that little immature girl loses her job over this and maybe finds one a little more suiting to her personality. Yesterday, Sunday, January 11, 2015, my son and I ate lunch at your Hickory restaurant. I am a frequent diner there and occasionally eat lunch there during the week. As such, I was able to fill a "Lunch Buffet" card with 9 restaurant stamps on it, thus giving me one free lunch meal as a frequent diner. When I attempted to use the card yesterday when paying for our meal, I was told by the lady behind the counter that the card cannot be used on Sundays. Nowhere on the card did it say that the "Lunch Buffet" card had to be used Monday thru Saturday and the lady did not show me any such signage in the restaurant either. When I spoke to the manager on site, he essentially said the same thing to me and really did not seem to care about the fact that the card indicated the 10th lunch is free without any conditions. As far as I am concerned, I am owed 1 free lunch at that restaurant. For them to tell patrons when they are paying for their meal that the "Lunch Buffet" card is not honored on Sunday is an absolute ploy and sham on customers. That is a shame since I have been dining at that site for several years and have always liked it. read more
