It was not too packed when we went, so the noise level was fairly normal. There was ample seating inside as well as outside and the service was very friendly! I got the Hibachi Chicken and split the Crunchy Roll. The Crunchy Roll is essentially a shrimp tempura roll with cream cheese and some crunchy flakes on time. Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of cream cheese in my sushi, so this threw me off a bit, although it was still good and I wonder if you can just ask them to not add cream cheese. I will say the shrimp tempura tasted different compared to other shrimp tempura rolls that I have had... but not bad. The Hibachi Chicken was a large entree for a fairly affordable price! I liked the meal and I think the shrimp sauce definitely enhanced it (as usual), but the sauce did taste kind of ranch-y? The carrots were a bit too sweet for me, but the fried rice paired well with the chicken. Overall, I would think this is an okay place for basic Japanese food. I do not think it is going to blow your mind, but if you want to satisfy some simple cravings, this place will do the job. I would not mind coming back for a quick bite in the future. This hibachi location was perfect for a quick meal. I've often wondered if it's affiliated with the Tokyo Diner in Morganton, but regardless, the experience here was excellent. The huge space is tucked away, but the food quality is worth seeking out. My steak was cooked exactly to my preference--a great example of quality meeting quantity. Combined with top-notch customer service and delicious sushi, this was a fantastic experience. read more

I've visited Tokyo Diner several times over the past 3 years and enjoyed it. Today's food quality was not up to par. The tempura veggies were undercooked and the shrimp was overcooked. California roll was good but the ginger tasted like miso and didn't appear fresh. At checkout when asked how my meal was I said ok. The cashier didn't seem curious on how it could be made better. This will be the last time I eat at Tokyo Diner. The food was very poor quality and had salads with brown lettuce, which had to be returned. Typical Japanese quick service restaurant for the area. The food is good and staff were attentive. Mostly Hibachi and teriyaki dishes with different proteins. Sushi is pretty good. I'd give it a 7 on a scale from 1-10. Service is a little slow but friendly. I have visited several times as I live close to this restaurant. I am Japanese and know my way around a sushi bar. However prior to my last visit I checked Yelp to see their hours I noted that closing time was 9pm. We arrived at 8:30. We waited for a hostess for about 5 minutes. Which is a long time to wait since there weren't very many patrons. Upon the hostess's arrival we were told that they closed at 9 and were asked to have our order "to go". This was very off putting and we declined. Do they close at 8:30 or 9? With no regard to us as patrons all we got was "sorry " We chose and will continue to to choose to go elsewhere. read more

We've visited here several times in the past and were happy with the service/meal, but things appear to have gone downhill.  We ordered the Jumbo Honey Shrimp appetizers for both my wife and myself, but they were normal sized shrimp, not what we're used to.  They were not cleaned well either.  I understand prices have gone up and we would have gladly paid more due to circumstances, but replacing jumbo shrimp for regular sized shrimp is false advertising and a lie.  I included a picture at the end when I noticed at least two shrimp that were not cleaned properly (should have taken one sooner). Hope this helps others and the owner sees this.   When asked how our meal was when paying at the counter, I stated it was not their normal quality...silence--no question as to why, etc.  Mentioned I would add a review on-line...silence.  This just shows the workers don't care either...next time will ask to speak to a manager...maybe they care!  LOL read more

I so want this place to be good because it's so conveniently located, but there's always something wrong. I've ordered 6 times in the last 3 months; my order's been wrong 5 out of 6. Sushi is excellent, but there's always something left out of the order, or the wrong protein, or forgot the sauce... Also, if you order a combo like "steak & chicken," you're not getting double meat for the extra $5...you're getting the same volume of protein by weight and being charged 5 bucks for the cook to scoop out of a 2nd bin. I literally weighed it on my last order - charged for 2, but less than 4 oz of meat total in the box. Rip off! read more

Very good hibachi dinners with soup or salad. The only downside was they got two of our orders wrong. Instead of shrimp and chicken we got steak and chicken. Didn't make a complaint about it because food was still good and we did take out. I didn't check anything before driving off. Would eat here again. read more

Standard Japanese fair. Good sushi, average service, predictable decor. Yellow tail was Awesome! Drink refills were on point. Atmosphere is a bit sterile but if you are into that then here it is. It does the trick and does not disappoint but there was nothing worth going out of your way for. read more

For spending 35 dollars on two entrees and two sushi rolls I expect to get what I ordered... ordered two of the Shrimp and STEAK entrees, a rainbow roll and California roll and both entrees were shrimp only... not a sliver of steak in sight and trust me I picked through my mushrooms to try and find it and my husband had none either... cmon now and I had a friend raving about this place the other day. read more

The food is great here but good luck getting what you want. Came in and were told no sushi could be served but watched the table next to us order and get a table full of it. The staff is lazy and no one does their job, too much of a burden to do what you're getting paid to do. Almost like that's how working works? Awesome food as usual, but the quality of service was fantastic!!! Did a call in order because of the Corona virus. But the food was hot and ready when I got there. Literally the freshest shrimp and steak ever. Our 2 grandchildren both ate all of theirs. My husband got the salmon and he truly enjoyed it all. read more

Good food, timing was fast. The reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is because they didn't give us our eggrolls in our to-go order. So they got us for $X and since it was to go, we couldn't just go right up to the counter to get the eggrolls or our money back so that leaves a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth. The quality of the food an timing is perfect. But the Latina lady working their is in the wrong business. She does not have social skill. she sounds beater when answering the phone. Makes you doubt when ordering. Instead of ask you what you want, she makes it out to be like a multiple choice question. I had ask vegetable side dish and she said vegetable entrée, this was repeated twice. I said I want vegetable only and she said Vegetable entrée. when I went to pick up my food, I explain to her and she does want to admit, she did wrong. You ask what the client ask, you don't suggest or guess what they want. The same lady in another occasion took when I went to pick up after paying I sat to wait and after a while, I ask about my food and she said is in the side table.
