I'm writing this review to let other potential customers know that there aren't any regulations about smoking or drinking on the boat. Other than this despite not catching anything (seemed slow all around) the trip would have been fine. We had a 5 hour ride I assume trying to find fish but a group of friends in front of us kept smoking cigarettes like clock work. It was disgusting to keep inhaling smoke for those 5 hours. I wish people were more mindful of others (also, my niece who is a child was to my left inhaling all that crap). My sister took a trip before and said that wasn't as bad on her trip. Maybe it was just my unlucky trip, but I just can't recommend it knowing I would pay $70 to be in what felt like the club and not fishing. To the captain: You do have a big boat! I would have moved if there was enough space as you saw there was quite a bit of people last night. I also came with my family and it was a group of us. Again, I wrote this to let others know. It was a great day on the water 70 degrees and sunny. The Captain (Tom?? I think ) and Deckhand Frank were very kind and answered all my question's ! I caught 2 keeper porgy's and 3 small sea bass to throw back ! The only bummer was having to pay $2 for the sinker which got caught on the bottom ..... ( never had to do that before - but no biggie really thus 5 stars)) I hit the water alone today and they made me feel super comfortable ( along with a couple of regulars) can't wait to go out again with some friends !! The name says it all "Sea Queen". Go fishing with them and you'll be treated as royalty. Today, a mate , Frank, noticed I was having trouble with my old Penn reel. He determined it was missing a washer for the drag function. I was happy to rent a rod and reel, but frank was on a mission. Taking a plastic soda cap, he literally spent an hour, cutting, filing, sanding and shaping it to serve as a washer. He did it! Because of Frank's dedication, he fixed the reel and I caught two keeper flukes! The entire staff was attentive, professional and beyond helpful with every guest. Not one guest had to touch a fish. Within seconds, someone was there to take it off the hook. I've taken party boats since the 70s. By far, Sea Queen was the best. Thanks again Frank! I'm adding to my review, as I enjoyed another wonderful day on the "Sea Queen". I was waiting in line to pay my fare, when a customer was giving Rob, who was collecting the fares, a hard time. Evidently, the guest didn't read the rules on the website, and was demanding free rod and reels. Rob calmly explained three or four times, he wasn't authorized to do that, everything was on the website, and gave the guest the phone number to the manager to resolve the situation. The unhappy guest then asked, "why are you giving me a hard time,?" Rob repeated again he couldn't give the tackle for free! Throughout the entire episode, Rob was professional, courteous and took a lot of uncalled for abuse, without getting upset. Well done! . He was also so helpful with the guests in the boat! Even Mr Unhappy. The other outstanding mate was Kevin. Kevin could be a hotel concierge with his affable demeanor, politeness and his willingness to help his clients. I watched Kevin patiently give a fishing lesson to a young kid on the trip, and when the young boy was so happy he caught a fish, Kevin showed him how to grasp the fish without losing any fingers and pose for a photo op! I'm sure this kid will love fishing because of Kevin's positive attitude. Kevin also deftly and expertly removed several small sharks (with sharp teeth) from my hook. No way I'm doing that! The captain, the crew and everyone on the boat will do all they can to help You catch fish! And even if you go home with an empty bucket , you'll still have a great day on the Seaqueen! read more

Let me TELL YOU. This is the review you want to read !!!! I walked on to the boat, immediately greeted. We found our spot and put our stuff down. We were able to bring coolers with whatever we like but the captain request that we do not bring any glass bottles or any hard alcohol. I think this is very fair. The captain allows you to bring food and alcohol and anything else no hard alcohol and no glass. The boat left out pretty much exactly 7 o'clock. The views were absolutely incredible and watching the sunset was amazing. I was almost positive I would not catch a fish because every fishing boat I have ever been on I never caught anything. First place we start to drop our lines, my boss husband catches a fish within seconds. I was amazed. I thought it was just pure luck. Then I just feel something pulling on my rod. I couldn't believe it I also caught a fish as well within minutes of being at the first location to drop our lines. We moved around quite a few times to relocate and reposition ... I caught another TEN FISH!!! (Also I was drinking and smoking on the top deck) my boss husband who is not drinking or smoking caught over 25 fish. I am 99% sure that every single person on that boat caught a fish. I just could not believe it. Crazy to me because I literally never caught a fish in my life and here I am walking out with TWELVE OF THEM !!!!!!! Amazing they even filleted them for me for a very small price. I made sure that we all left extremely generous tips. By the way Chris is awesome and not just because he has the same name as me The girls on the boat are so helpful and so attentive. if I ran out of bait they made sures to run and get me more shrimp!!! What a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go again. I wanted to write this review earlier because I knew I would forget everyone's name but of course I remember Chris's name because it's mine what an awesome awesome time. I met so many cool dudes and girls and was just overall and awesome time. I made fish and chips with what I caught . Oh my god it was GREAT!!!!! Look at my pics !!!! Don't know what the deal is with the recent one/two star reviews. This was my 2nd trip on the Sea Queen VII and I don't think I'll be going on any other Sheepshead Bay boat except this one from now on. I've lived in Sheepshead Bay for close to 30 years and feel like I've been missing out by not going on this boat sooner. I haven't caught a keeper yet, but I've fought more fish in my last two trips on the Sea Queen than I have surf/pier fishing in the past decade (maybe I just suck at fishing from the surf...). Seems like the folks leaving negative reviews were upset that they didn't land a Sheepshead Bay sea monster, they should probably buy their own boats since they think they can do a better job. No complaints about my trip two trips. Had fun just getting the chance to fight some fish. You need to go into this with the right mind-set. If you're thinking every fluke is going to be a 40" doormat in overfished Brooklyn/Queens water just because you're on a boat then I've got the Verrazzano Bridge for sale. Sure they're out there and you just might catch one but the odds aren't in your favor. You will likely hook short after short after short and a ton of sea robins, but you know what, it beats sitting on Plumb beach, surrounded by rats, getting eaten alive by sandflies with nothing to catch. The boat's clean, cruises smooth, the crew is great. If you're not going with your own gear, just FYI that I think most of the loaner rods come with a conventional reel (I think they're almost all old-school Penn Squidders). If you're not familiar with how to use a conventional reel the crew will explain. On each of the trips, the side of the boat I was on, everyone hooked up at least once (except for my brother-in-law). The last trip, I was on I fought four short flukes (15" - 18") and 5 sea-robins (pretty big ones too). The guy next to me caught a 22" keeper. All in all, well worth it for a day of fun. So, a pirate's life might not be exactly what you're looking for, especially with the looting and booty...but! The Sea Queen VII will get you some fish if you're lucky! Brought to this ship by a Living Social deal, I decided it was about time to figure out if I was a fisherwoman or not and, of course, I brought my partner in crime with me! For $35, we both were hooked up (haha!) with fishing rods (giving on a first come, first serve basis), rigs, and bait. We were given basic instructions on how to capture our deadliest catch and were monitored from 1-5PM by the crew. Departed and docked strictly on time. A girl even mentioned her boyfriend wasn't boarded yet, and they told her, "1:00PM we sail" and that was the end of that. Luckily he made it on and no one had to swim out after the boat! Captain Steve re-positioned the boat about 5-6 times during our afternoon catch to alternate fishing underneath the boat due to the currents. Since it rained pretty heavily the night before our trip, only about a hand full of us caught fluke that were acceptable to be brought home. Regardless of the catch, I really had a wonderful time! My beau caught a 20 in fluke, and the crew offers to fully gut and filet your fish before docking back onto the pier! We gave a nice tip and were thrilled to have a fresh dinner that night! Clean boat with clean restrooms and stocked with water for $2.00; you can bring your own booze! If I knew this before, I would have packed a cooler like many of our counterparts. They put the radio on because "the fish like the music" and are the most knowledgable bunch of guys I've ever met! We will be visiting again before the summer is through! read more

Went on the Sea Queen last Saturday. Their advertising told of free parking in the last lot on the right on Dooley street. When you pull up to it, parking is not available so don't count on it. However there is parking on Shore PKWY. Shore PKWY is one block over parallel to Emmons Ave. Didn't know what to expect when I came aboard. Ship was pretty empty. Maybe 15-20 people fishing, if that. Thankfully we pushed off and went fishing regardless, a lot of times they won't leave without a certain number of people. We left promptly to go fishing. It was 35 for the trip, 5 for the fishing pole and 5 bucks to enter the pool. Reasonable prices. The rods were subpar but they worked. Bait, clam in this case, was fresh. We dropped our sinker about 40 minutes after leaving the dock. The bite was immediate, we didn't wait long at all. Decent sized porgies were in the area, 9" - 12", me and my girlfriend caught one each, I knew it wasn't going to be a bad trip as I hooked up almost immediately after I caught my first one. We caught 4 more and than the captain said lines up. No idea why since the bite was on but I think cap was also looking for sea bass and fluke. We moved 4 - 5 times throughout the day, (on the drift) catching porgy in every location although not as good as the first spot. Two people caught two sea bass, one that won the pool. End of the day I caught 13 keepers, nice fish, 3 - 12's and 1 - 13", the rest keepers, caught 3 short and threw em back. I had the mates clean the fish, it was 15 bucks plus a tip, which I gladly gave. Staff was friendly and helpful, no nastiness that I witnessed, to anyone. All in all it was a good trip, one or two tangles but nothing too bad. I'd go on the Sea Queen again, staff was friendly and cap wanted to catch fish. Never fished before (at least not since I was really young) but a friend brought me out and was such a fun night. Boat has all the gear you need but we brought our own beer and snacks. Boat is nice, crew was all super friendly and helpful and Captain Steve is the best. A really fun side of NYC most people never experience. The BYOB is really unbeatable For $30 each we had great morning on the boat, the captain did a good job of communicating and although we didn't catch any keeps we caught a bunch of robin so at least we caught something Are definitely gonna go back out with this crew, price, experience and fun is unbeatable. read more

First time fishing on a boat and the expectations were high, cooler was full of alcohol and the weather was nearly perfect. At Sheepshead Bay, there are a large number of day/night fishing expeditions that you can embark upon. The Sea Queen offers 3 different trips 7 AM - 12 PM, 1 PM - 5 PM and 7 PM - 12 AM. Some of my family/friends decided to take a chance and we all went on the earliest voyage. The captain allows you to bring a cooler aboard the boat and alcoholic beverages are permitted (preferably canned beer). There is also food available where you can purchase refreshments and other snacks (hot dogs, chips, etc.) can be purchased. Beer is also sold, Budweiser's are $4 and Corona's are $6 so it's best to bring your own stocks. The boat was fairly packed at 7 AM but there was still ample room to move around. The rig and gear that are provided by the crew is pretty crappy. My reel would get tangled every so often unless I placed by thumb while the line was being drawn out. The handle was almost ready to fall off, thank got i didn't hook a 10-20 lb. fish. The route that the boat tours wasn't so hot either. I got a few bites at the first stop but no real action after that. First, the boat went offshore from Manhattan Beach stopping twice, and then made its way to Sandy Hook. The amount of time I spent fishing versus the boat actually getting out to specific locations, it felt more like a Circleline cruise than a fishing boat. A few people caught some fluke that were keepers but anything under 19 inches had to be thrown back by regulation. My catch of the day, a behemoth blackfish, roughly 7 inches long. People's lines were getting tangled and snagged by the rocks or by each other. A decent first fishing trip and it was an enjoyable experience but I wouldn't go on a day trip with this boat again. read more

Had the best birthday fishing trip on the Sea Queen VII! Tickets are easy to purchase online-- they sail three times a day; 7-12pm, 1-5pm, 7-12am. They provide everything you need to catch fish. You can bring coolers aboard, but drinks/beers must be in cans. We did the night trip as a group of 5 hoping to catch stripers/fluke/porgy. Almost all of us came home with huge fish, and the one who didn't wasn't really trying that hard anyway. :) The boat was huge, nice and clean. They have snacks and drinks available on board-- nothing fancy, but it'll do the trick if you made a mad dash from work and forgot to pick up dinner for the road. Bring cash!! The crew were all friendly, knowledgable and patient. We loved them, especially Max and DJ. Bring extra cash for these guys 'cause they are working hard. This was my second time on the Sea Queen VII. What I really like about them is that they are extremely welcoming to beginners (like us). They are happy to help any time and I love how excited they get when anyone catches anything. Very affordable, it's byob, $5 for the fishing rod, and $5 for the pool (optional) for whoever catches the biggest fish. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star is: (1) they don't have a recycling bin, all bottles and trash go in the same giant bucket and (2) there was a group of guys at the front that kept throwing their cigarette butts in the ocean which was really upsetting. Providing some sort of ashtray and perhaps announcing "don't throw your trash in the ocean" would be nice. I caught 2 short ones and my partner caught a keeper. Overall, a great time! Went with the Living Social deal to try something new. We borrowed rods so did not have to pay the $5 rental fee. The crew was great with 1st timers in both teaching and assisting throughout the trip. Even at full price - $25 pp, its something nice to do if you are looking to mix things up. Before boarding the boat, a woman, who apparently thought was the freaking captain of the boat, gave my boyfriend and I so much sarcasm as to why we didn't make a phone reservation instead of helping us, that it became sickening. First off, I haven't written a review in probably 2+ years, so this is a pretty big deal and it'll probably also be the longest review ever. Went fishing with a group of 40+ this past weekend, and the Sea Queen crew was awesome. They provide everything from the rods to the bait, which I guess is pretty standard for these types of fishing trips, but they were incredibly patient and just all-around nice people. Within the first five minutes of us letting our lines down, five or six of us got tangled, creating a ridiculous knot the size of my fist. We didn't even have to go look for help; a deck hand showed up immediately and he was incredibly sweet about it, patiently re-doing everything for all of us...maybe I'm just a jerk, but I was really surprised by how nice and upbeat they were the entire 4+ hours dealing with inexperienced, drunk 20-somethings trying to fish. Oh AND these guys work 14 hours a day, seven days a week (at least in the summer). Again, maybe I'm just a lazy jerk, but if I was working those hours at an exhausting job, getting sunburnt while surrounded by strangers' never-ending requests for help, I don't know if I'd be that friendly. In terms of the boat; there were probably 60 people on that boat, and everyone fit comfortably. It's not a luxurious boat by any means, but hey, you're there to go fishing, you're not going on a cruise. I'd recommend wearing clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty or throwing away after. If you're there to catch tons of fish, I'd say set realistic expectations since you're fishing on the Hudson River...one guy in our group caught 6 fish and I think he kept one, but another guy (not in our group) ended up catching a huge sea bass, a snapper, and something else, all of which were big enough to keep for dinner. Oh, and they also filet your fish for you on the boat., which is pretty cool, but I think that may also be standard for these fishing trips. The cherry on top is...I accidentally bought four tickets, because I bought two a couple months ahead of time, but I couldn't find my receipt, so I thought that maybe I remembered incorrectly and had not actually bought my tickets. So, I called them and left a message the day before our trip, but it seemed to be a cell phone number and they didn't pick up. I left a message but didn't hear back. The next day when we boarded the ship, their sign-in paper showed that I had bought four tickets. I explained that I had bought two by accident, and I meant to only buy two tickets. I didn't make a big deal out of it because I honestly wasn't expecting to be refunded since they say "No refunds for no shows" all over their website, so I just counted my losses and got over it. Well when I checked my email this morning, I saw that they had refunded me for two tickets without me having to follow up or even ask for a refund. That was the email that prompted me to write this review and give Sea Queen five stars. :) read more

This company offers 2 fishing trips, one from 7am - 12pm and 1pm - 5pm. Do the morning one for an extra hour! The day I went, the boat was pretty packed, as rods lined the perimeter of the boat and you were shoulder-to-shoulder fishing next to other people. Came with a LivingSocial coupon with 5 others. It was $17pp with the coupon but we paid $5 extra pp for rod rental (and more for tipping the mates). Most others also rented rods but I did see 1 or 2 people that brought their own. You might also want to share a rod between 2 people. A lot of people were able to catch at least something. I wasn't able to but little girls next to me were so I was probably just doing something wrong or got unlucky. Some people even got to take fish home, think there were flounders (needed to be 19 inches), sea robins (can take home at any size but not great for eating), sea bass (I think there was just one caught), and some sort of sting ray looking fish. Definitely take sea-sickness pills before! Of the 6 in my group, 4 got seasick (puked) and were unable to fish. Yes, lots of people were puking. It was fun but not sure I'd go back if I had to pay full price ($25 pp + $5 rod) given how hard it is to get to without a car (they do have a free parking lot if you do). read more

Great fishing charter boat!!! The crew is so helpful & friendly & take care of literally everything! They even filet the fish for you if/when you catch something!! The boat definitely leaves right on time so it's vital you are on time otherwise you will be left at the dock! The awesome thing about this charter boat is that there is free parking in a lot right off of Duly Ave across from where the boat is docked. I went with six other people & they had seven poles reserved for us on the starboard side of the boat. As soon as we left the dock, the crewmen came around & gave us all our bait & answered any questions anyone may have had. As soon as we reached our first destination, the captain said, "Drop your lines!" and the fun began! The captain definitely know where the fish are biting & people caught fish each time we moved locations. I didn't catch anything personally except some mussels with barnacles lol but my friend caught two fluke, although they were a little shy of the necessary length for a keeper. My principal actually caught the keeper out of our group & he gave it to me to take home & have for dinner. The crewman expertly prepared it for us into nice filets & with salt, pepper, lemon slices, & a little bit of Adobo on bake for about 15 minutes made for an awesome dinner with spaghetti squash, zucchini, & French green beans sautéed in olive oil & freshly minced garlic. I can't wait to go again! For $35 + $5 for the pool, it was a a lot of fun & really reasonable & a perfect amount of time: 1-5pm. I think I want to go out at night next time because the view of Coney Island was really nice & at night I bet it's stunning with all the lights. read more

This is my favorite boat to be on at Sheepshead Bay! Captain Steve is the Real DEAL! The crew makes all the customers feel like family, always taking you to the fish! I love the energy of the crew and I recommend this boat to the beginner and the pros! As neophytes, my friend and I had a great time fishing for the first time ever on the Sea Queen VII. With that said, I can't compare the boat and crew to other local fishing trips, yet. I called Captain Steve to verify the availability of seats and the trip on 7/27 for a trip on 7/28 and then purchased the 2 for $35 Groupon deal. He suggested we arrive 30 min prior to departure, we got there closer to 15min. I stopped at Cherry Hill first, the fancy Russian Supermarket on Emmons Ave, to purchase food for my foam cooler. Broc, an affectionate mate, greeted us at the pier and ushered a young mate to help with our bags on the boat. We found space at the front of the boat, or bow, sat down, tucked our bags under the seat and waited. SQ VII departed at 1pm as promised. Broc collected $7 for the rod and tackle which Groupon stated was $5. He explained said there's an additional $2 for the tackle (sinker & hook). I actually paid out another $1 bc the ocean floor ate my first sinker and hook! The younger mate from earlier came by to place our rods in their respective slots. At this moment, Jimmy, a regular fishman from the area, smelled the newness on us and began a Fishing 101 lesson. He's a gruff and amiable character, like Sully from Monsters Inc., who can unnerve you with his deep, rough growls, "Don't lean your rod on the rail. How can you feel the fish when it bites? No, you are holding it all wrong! You're gonna knock someone's eye out w/ your sinker if it keep it swinging like that!" BUT who affectionately said, "Wow, you really got the hang of this quickly! a natural...you're doing great." Jim means well and even said so, sensing that my friend was frazzled. I suspected his well-meaning intentions all along. He wanted us to be safe and have fun and catch fish. Minutes after we departed the young mate came by and gave us another lesson. 4 hours flew by. We laughed, we talked, we enjoyed the great weather and views of Coney's skyline. I caught 3 "shorts", one being only 1" shy of the 18" requirement, and ball of mangled fishing lines and mussels. My friend caught other peoples' lines. The mates were super patient and untangled each one without any fuss. To her credit, it takes a while to get the hang of holding the rod properly (it's $100 if you lose it) while keeping your thumb on the line, feeling the sinker as it hits the ocean floor, boobing the rod up & down, and reeling potential fish in. The 85' boat wasn't super new or fancy but clean and practical enough for me. The inner cabin had a couple of tables that were occupied most of the time. We waited a few mins for one to clear so we could eat of lunch. The equipment was decent enough to get the job done;although, my line was a bit tangled on the reel so perhaps it needed changing out. We tipped the crew on our way out with no ill feelings having lost the "pot" for the day. While the fluke evaded us that day, my inner fisherwoman was born. read more

We had a wonderful fun time with Sea Queen VII! We are 8 in the group and I was the one who organized our fishing trip. Booked online on the day of fishing but clicked on the wrong time but Capt Steve was very flexible (he allowed us to use our tickets)...I also accidentally took the wrong train going there and got lost..it was past 1:00pm (the boat was ready to sail) but Captain Steve and the crew were very kind to wait for me! Thank you very much for making our 1st fishing trip very memorable. plus, FREE Parking! how awesome! read more
