My original fishing expedition got cancelled because there weren't enough people so they directed me to Brooklyn VI. It was a stormy cloudy day with rain on the horizon and really choppy waves. I was told that it was not a good day for fishing. The captain tried very hard to find us fish and it was one of the best fishing trips ever. I went with my brother and father for my father's birthday. We got 2 buckets full of porgies on a "bad fishing day"!!!! Okay, so I just came on here to read the reviews out of curiosity & send the yelp link to my cousin who I want to bring fishing. I personally have been fishing with Brooklyn VI for years with a large group of friends. I have never sought out another boat because of the following: - They have a cool and helpful staff. - If nothing is biting, they ALWAYS tell us to stop and drive out deeper to find a better location. - I literally always have to STOP fishing because I catch too many Blues (don't have the freezer room). The first time I fished with them I caught 9 big blues. I always catch a bunch and then chill the rest of the trip and talk to friends who are pooped. On one trip, my son was about 9 at the time - he caught 3 or 4 by himself and the staff of course pulled the fish in for him. -They clean the fish for you which saves me so much trouble. I don't want to call anyone a liar but I will say, after what, 7 years of fishing with Brooklyn VI, I've NEVER seen the shore when we start fishing, never! Very few fish caught. When people started catching , captain crunch decides to move to different area where there where more no fish. Captain must have been drunk . His movements where baffling. I've been going out with this boat since 1986. The Captains and crews have always been great. I've always felt at home. The crews have always been friendly and helpful. The Captains have always given max effort to find the good spots. All that being said, this season (Summer 2018), I've been out eight times,. I've brought along "first timers" three times. Everyone I've brought along had a fantastic time and caught more fish than they expected. As for me I've been able to share fish with many of my neighbors and still fill my freezer. has been so good, I've been able to max out my legal limit on amounts of catch within 2-3 hours, on four occasions. We went out fishing for porgy last week and out of aprx 30 ppl nobody caught anything till noon. After trying so many locations we caught some seabasses (small) and nobody caught any porgy. These fish live in rocky areas and its very normal loosing your sinker and hooks since they get stuck between the rocks. Bring 6 or 8 oz sinkers and presetup hooks with you otw you will pay $2 everytime you loose them. You ll have to wait for help ...Was my first time on this boat will try other boats before I come back to this one! read more

No doubt the best boat out of Sheepshead Bay. If they are biting the captain will put you on them--the boat's speed and the captains' willingness to burn diesel if necessary gives you a much wider range than the other SB boats. Try to sail when there isn't a really full house otherwise the tangles can get really frustrating if the action gets hot and heavy. I've been out twice with these guys this Fall--once for day bluefish and once for night blues. I had heard reports that the fishing was good. And by God it was. We got blitzed both times--the night trip was insane. A bluefish blitz is a fishing experience not to be missed. Just incredibly fun and exciting. You haven't fished until you've heard the thunderous metallic tattoo of a dozen big bluefish beating their tails on the decks. The crew is extremely professional (if not particularly personable with newcomers). First timers would definitely be better off on the slightly less hard-core Marilyn Jean IV located one pier over. If you're going to catch bluefish, your gonna get bloody so dress appropriately. It's customary to tip the guys a couple of bucks per fish for cleaning and filleting, And also 15%-20% even if you don't catch anything. Do keep an eye on your catch, I had a yella rat bastid fellow angler sneakily claim a couple of my fish when I wasn't looking. Definitely check local fishing reports and the boat's web page before you book. Weekend trips will almost always be packed if fishing is good. read more

TL:DR - crew was non-existent and had a poor attitude. We were told $20 Tips were required for filets and service. Two fileters took probably took 2 hours to finish (can't confirm because we went home and i just fileted my 4 porgy at home). Crew was yelling at customers to go to ATM to get money to tip them. This boat and crew get a lot of advertising from the Brooklyn fishing club and other outlets so my hopes were pretty high. They were also the only boat in the NY/North NJ area advertising night stripers and blues (with evening porgy) into early July so I took my girlfriend to try and get her on her first bass. I saw the weather was starting to look a little snotty so I called to make sure the trip was still on and was reassured the trip was 100% on. We arrived and the crew is told us to wait to show our online tickets for when everyone gets called up to pay, so we did. We showed our tickets and said we needed rod rentals. We were met with frustration and were asked why we didn't say something earlier because the rods were put away. We were then given rods that were extremely old and ceased up on first the first drop at the first porgy location. I had to go around the boat and find a mate to get us working rods, which was a common theme because the crew was no where to be found. Throughout the porgy portion of the evening the group next to us were having constant trouble with their rental gear and after hearing "Mate!" a dozen times, I just started undoing their bird nests for them because no one was coming around. The sun went down and we started making the move to the striper spot but it was cancelled due to the weather. I understand changing plans for the weather, but a SW was blowing so hard that evening and we were in a 4-6 ft swell, it's hard to believe that it wasn't being reported when I called to confirm. We were then we told we were going to be fishing for porgy for the remainder of the evening. If I knew this was going to be a porgy only trip I would've stayed home and saved $150 plus transportation back to where I live in jersey. We weren't even set up on the structure properly either because the back of the boat was nearly limiting and the sides of the boat were silent and actionless. The way Home: after an underwhelming night porgy trip, we started our way home and the crew started fileting. We had four fish and I was going to tip $20 because I usually will anyway. We made it back to the dock and there were still 3/4 of the guests waiting for their filets. A young kid of the crew with glasses then had a heated exchange with some of the guests telling them it was $20 for the filets and told them to go to an ATM. I've been on dozens of different party boats and charters and I've NEVER seen anything like that. It's a tip and it should be deemed by the service the customer receives. In this case, the service all around poor because the crew was nowhere to be found when we were fishing and the filets that the kid was giving were very sloppy. After waiting another 20 or so minutes at the dock to have our 4 porgy fileted, I decided I would just put them in the cooler and filet them at home. On the way out, I saw the captain apologizing to the group involved in the tipping argument, which I thought was absolutely the right thing to do but it should'nt have ever happened in the first place. There are quite a few other boats in the area that would've been happy to help their customers and probably wouldve earned their tips. i have read some of the reviews other people have wrote. First thing I would like to say is we live in PA, and i have been coming up to the Brooklyn VI for a couple of years now. I have NEVER had any problems like I have read about in some of these reports! We bring 10 or more people per trip. NONE of them ever said they will never go a gain. We have always caught fish, some days may have been slow. But the crow ALWAYS worked are to make shore EVERY ONE was into fish. Second thing is yes the crow work for tips, and they deserve every dollar we can give them. these guys work hard long days and NIGHTS so we can have fun. If any one do not get that, maybe you should go by your own boat!! My brother and I have fished other boats, him more then me. But the first time I took him along on the Brooklyn he can't wait for the next trip!! And third, every time we are on that boat, we make new friends. read more

Why when we were sold a blue fish trip, we wound up fishing in 15' of still waters off Coney Island for Porgies is the million dollar question? Seriously , if you had no intentions of putting us hard working folk on top of fish you should have offered a refund. Don't know whats going on with the management but really if there is no fish around the bay then why stay there going around in circles, when all the other boats are heading south. First time night fishing and must say it was a horrible experience thanks to the staff of this boat. Most of them were rude and asked you for money for every single thing. I understand that not everything is included in the price but every time we needed something, we just felt like we were nickeled and dimed for everything. No one really helped except for one person who was this young italian guy, others were just plain lazy and can careless being bothered. There was this bald Italian guy who just kept fighting with everyone, extremely rude and had an attitude problem - real nut job. We did catch lots of bluefish, which was the only plus and why I would give this boat one star. I have been day fishing numerous times in Captree state park and never ever dealt with a rude and unfriendly staff like this. I would definitely go night fishing again but I would never make the mistake of going back on this boat, I will try captree state park in long island instead. If you are a seasoned fisherman and do not need any help or have to deal with this staff at all then this place is for you as the captain knows where the fish are and is the only person worthy of being employed on this boat. read more

Enjoyed a wonderful day this week on the Brooklyn Vi Fishing. The weather was hot and sticky, but it felt great to be out on the water. Caught 8 nice size blues. Many more got away. As always, Phil was helpful and prepared them to take home. The mate in the galley noticed the line on my reel was worn, so he replaced it. Wouldn't let me pay him. Kudos to the captain who kept moving around to find the fish. One gentleman in the stern came with his mom. He just couldn't land a fish. Didn't really know how it is done. Those of fishing near him felt badly for the guy. (His mom asked me if I would be willing to sell some of my fish. I told her to have patience...her son will catch something soon.) When it was noticed that he hadn't yet landed a fish, Dennis, one of Brooklyn VI's great mates, stood nearby and stayed with him on his next bite. Dennis coached the man from beginning to end until he brought the fish into the boat. We all cheered. He eventually landed 4 fish, and you could only imagine the grin on this man's face when we later discovered he won the pool with that fish. And his really sweet mom said to me, "My son caught the biggest one!" All of the people fishing on the stern were friendly. We were exhausted from fighting the strong fish. The best part of the day was toward the end. The captain found an area filled with blues and every single one of us had fish on at the same time. "Gaff Dennis!" "Over here Dennis!" "Dennis, I need you!" Dennis ran from person to person and helped to get every fish in the boat. Didn't lose a single one.High fives all around. The owner of this boat clearly hires mates that know what they are doing and have a serious interest in assisting their customers. That's why I never consider going on a different boat. If I feel like going fishing, I head to Sheepshead Bay for the Brooklyn VI. read more

OMG!!!! This was the best 4th of july firework experience I have ever had. I took my mother and my mother-in-law on this 4th of July cruise and we had such an awesome time. Let me outline the experience so others can understand just how great this was. - The boat was immaculate, looked like someone cleaned every inch with a toothbrush. Keep in mind this is a fishing boat. - They DO NOT overbook this cruise, which gives ample room for everyone to sit or stand where they want without being crowded - Captain Mike rocked the boat (not literally) but he was one of the best captains, I felt safe. The one time he left the *helm* the boat started rocking, we told him to get back in there and retake control (hahaha) - The other crew members were also awesome including the lady at the snack bar :) - They had an AWESOME live DJ that played some kick-ass tunes the whole ride, He made it so fun for everybody - Seriously we had the best spot on the East River to view the fireworks, we were the first boat next to barge! What a view, ahhhhhhh So I hope I made this an easy decision for you yelpers to book this trip, you will not regret it. I've been out with the Brooklyn VI 4 times in the past 8 years, the most recent about a year ago. I've taken the night trips all four times. Good sized with plenty of seats inside and upstairs too. They sell snacks too. I'm pretty sure you can bring your own stuff too. I've always eaten before hand. One out of the four times, there just weren't any fish. Not for lack of trying on the crew's fault. We went to over 4 spots that night, and there just anything biting. The other three times though, it was unreal, the amount of fish there was. I'm not good or know what I am doing at all and I was catching them it was nothing. You can ask the crew to help out with anything if you need. Tangled lines, etc. Cool crew. One of the trips, there were five of us and we filled a waist high bucket full of bluefish. Good times. It's a little cheaper if you bring your own rod. I always give them anything I catch but you can obvouisly take anything you catch with you. There's parking along Emmons Ave. I don't remember if it was metered or just alternate side but that was another benefit of going at night. I need to go back soon. read more

This was my first time on this boat night fishing. I was there with a group and we had a lot of fun. The fishing wasn't great, but that wasn't the captains fault he did take us to several different spots, but the fish weren't bitting too much. We did catch a few fish however. The boat is clean and the crew washes it down at every change in location. Unlike many of the other reviews, I found the crew helpful and friendly and my group and I are far from professional fishermen. I do agree that the crew wasn't ontop of you and yes you may have had to untangle a line or two yourself, but if you asked they were more than willing to help you. One thing that the reviewers have to understand is that these guys probably work on mostly tips, so if you don't want to be "nickeled and dimed" try giving them a few bucks in the begining of the trip. I am definitely going to give this boat another shot and hopefully I come up with more fish. Oh one more thing--your 5 year old kid does not belong on a night fishing trip that gets in at 2am and if you do bring him make sure you watch him, it isn't the crews' job or the other passengers' job to do this while you fish. I'm a real novice fisherwoman - I enjoyed fishing for freshwater trout and bass years ago before I moved to NYC, but I'd never attempted saltwater fishing. So I'll let the more experienced fishermen speak to the technical details of what makes this a great boat, but I wanted to add my voice to the comments because the gang on Brooklyn VI provided a fantastic experience for this Manhattanite who just wanted to get out on the water for the day. Dennis taught me how to catch a bluefish, Walter patiently disentangled my line whenever I screwed up, the captain swiftly steered us wherever up-to-the-minute data suggested there might be an exciting catch, and everyone on board was lovely company. Best fishing boat ever. Hands down, the best. I've been on 19 different boats and this is quite frankly the best. Pier 6 located next to the Marilyn Jean. This boat is the biggest and fastest fishing boat on the docks. What can I say? I've been on this boat 15 times already. June 2011 a simple day fishing trip with my family has caused my happy addiction and love of fishing to begin with. I caught my first fish, a 3 lb bluefish on this boat. 15 trips on this boat, about 2-3 trips the fish barely bit for anyone, and it wasn't the captain or the boat's fault. We read fish, saw the bait in the water, but they wouldn't even nibble, just 2-3 here and there. Over the course of 3 years, 5 trips a year, this is basically the only boat I've been on that can 'guarantee' in a sense that you'll catch fish. 12 times my father and I have limited out on bass and blues. The crew is top notch and works very very hard with a lot of customers. The captain, Mike, always puts you on the fish, always. He announces when to drop the jigs in, what depth the fish are at, and basically coaches the novices to reel it slow (bass) or reel them quickly (blues) He also announces what part of the boat needs a gaff for a customer. The crew, while the boat is on its way to another fishing location tells everyone to get inside the boat, so they can hose down the decks with all the fish blood, etc. Very clean boat. Inside the boat is huge, many benches and seats, a few tables. In the summer it's perfectly air conditioned which is refreshing, or in the colder times, it's warm and toasty. They have a galley with chips, soda, beer, drinks, soups, and if you request they can make food for you such as sausages, egg sandwiches, bagels, etc. Going out from the docks, once the inlet is cleared, the boat turns on its engines and it's humorous to pass the other boats who left 5-10 minutes before this boat did. Day fishing with jigs is amazing. We don't use their jigs (their jigs work fine) but we bring our own. Diamond jigs, Krocodile Jigs, PBJ jigs, all work amazing. Be prepared for plenty of tangles and the FISH pulling YOU down the boat. The best trip I've ever went on was the beginning of May 2013, on a sunday. We went with our Krocodiles for our first trip of the season, and the boat and us ended up with over 100 keeper striped bass all 20+ lbs. I caught 8 Bass on krocs, and my father caught 7. We only kept our 4 limit though, and gave the rest to the crew. I was observing on the aforementioned trip other novices and beginner fisherman. They were being advised by the crew on how to use the jigs and not to cast out, but they were stubborn and ended up with constant birds nest and losing jigs. It wasn't the crews fault. I even pitched in a few times to help novices unhook their fish and help clear their lines. DO NOT USE BRAID. It's a headache and a half to deal with those microscopic tangles. You don't need it, trust me. I went from using 50lb braid on a spinner which gave me tangles every other fish, to using 40lb mono on a conventional which gave me 1-2 tangles a day. Plus it makes the crews job way easier. Night fishing is quite an experience as well, typically for night blues, it's a sinker with a hook setup using bunker chunks. The crew are always throwing bunker chunks in for chum, and it's nonstop action once they get to a good spot. Honestly, once they see that you're a regular, you typically get better treatment than a one time person. Forget about getting the back of the boat, unless you get there at 5am. We usually go to the front of the boat where it's more spacious and easy to switch sides depending where the current is running. It's 60$ for the day trip, but it's worth every penny if you want to catch fish. Day trip is 7am-3PM. A few trips we stayed out until 330-415PM after the trip was over because the fishing was that good. 55$ for the night trip. Night trip is 7PM-12AM/2AM depending what month you're going. Tips: YOU WILL GET WET. The waves sometimes are rough and it's a good idea to get some waders or waterproof clothing. Also a fresh pair of clothes to wear on your way home. You can rent their rods $5 which come with the proper line, jig, and a good enough rod to catch fish. They sell burlap bags for $2 which you can put your fish in, although we bring our own huge cooler which works like a charm. Try to get there a little early to get a good spot. Do not use braid. If bringing your own equipment make sure you're not bringing 15 lb mono or something like that. Great crew, great boat, great captain. Highly recommended. read more

If I was able to give this company 0 stars I would. First they don't inform you that lures are extra. No where on the website or the boat is this stated. I have been on lots of different charter boats and never heard of this policy. The captain just circled and circled for hours in the exact same spots where no body else in sight was even fishing. On an eight hour fishing trip we had our lines in the water about a grand total of 15 minutes. The staff was not helpful at all. When we had an issue with one of the rods we rented I might as well have asked for the guys first born son. The crew was not even busy and to get a little help would have been nice. When a husband and a group of our friends told me about night-fishing, I was so excited by the idea. I only went fishing once before and the thrill of doing it again at night was too much to resist. It would have been a great experience, except we made the huge mistake of going with this travesty of a crew. Seriously, they should make a comedy/horror movie from the experience that we had that night. The only good thing that came out of this experience was the 15 blue fish that our group caught due to the diligence of the captain on finding us an area where all the fish were. But here is a run-down of the experience that we had: I was one of two women on the whole boat and you would think that the crew would be somewhat professional, considering we paid to be there. But no... my girlfriend and I got blatantly hit on by every one of those guys to the point where I actually felt uncomfortable standing anywhere near them. Second, I am not a professional fisherman and I am not ashamed to admit that. Nor was I notified at any point that novices like me were not allowed on the boat. Pretty much, there was no help whatsoever when it came time to reel a fish in, when it came time to untangle the lines or even put the hook on. Not to mention that every assistance we asked for, we were charged money. Apparently to put the hook back on the line after one of the crew-members cut it is another $2. Really? Because it's my fault that the crew-member cut my line by mistake? At some point during the night these guys ran out of all napkins, plastic bags, and potato sacks. So when we started catching our fish, they would just be left flopping on the floor, spewing guts and blood everywhere. When I asked one of the crewmen to use a icebox that was sitting there empty in the back, he told me that he would charge me $5 to rent it, but maybe it can be free "only for me." Really? You guys ran out of potato sacks and bags, and now you're charging us money to "rent" an icebox that nobody is using?! Don't even get me started on the disrespectful flirting! He furthered continued to mock my friend because my friend was not sure how to grab the flopping and dying fish that lay on the floor. Seriously? If this boat was only meant for people who fished a lot and know everything than please do us all a favor and write a huge sign that states that so we don't waste our money. Pretty much, we paid to get made fun of, to get fish guts spewed all over our clothing, to get disrespected and flirted with, and to get nickled and dimed on every possible thing imaginable. I am surprised I wasn't charged $2 to use the bathroom or to sit on a bench! These guys were just downright rude and obnoxious and no words can express the frustration that we all felt. This was an experience alright, just not a good one. It's something that my friends and I will look back on, shake our heads and think: Never again Brooklyn VI. Never again. read more

I was on this boat Saturday night the boat itself was great. The captain was great he knew exactly where to bring us to catch allot of blue fish. But I must say the service on the boat was not good at all. It does not say anywhere on your website that this boat Is only for professional fisherman. But that is exactly how it felt. We are new to fishing and we felt like there was no help for us on the boat at all. There were times when I was standing there and couldn't fish because my line got tangled and wouldn't reel out. I asked a guy to help me and he just walked away. I had to wait 10 min for another guy to come help me. After a while my wife and a friend of mine just gave up and were just sitting because after they cought the fish the hook was cut by the crew member and was left in the fish. And no one came to help put the hook back on the line. There was only one guy on the boat that was really nice and helped us out allot I don't remember his name but he was wearing a white shirt. The guy that was cleaning our fish, the bald guy I think his name is Stan, was really rude and kept making fun of us we were not able to talk to him at all. The Brooklyn has awful customer service. Just terrible. I booked a tuna trip for 9/15/13. I took one of only 10 days I get off a year to go on this trip. The day before they canceled the trip not because of weather but because they only had 10 people going and their profit margin wasn't enough they said. they nickel and dime you for everything!!!!! when the boat 1st pulled off, I over heard most of the crew members bragging about how they received two stars rating. one said "its the stupid ugly bitches that writes these reviews" he was referring to Komal K. review on 6/27/2012 he continued "they wanted us to hit on them".. unbelievable!!!! I went night fishing june 29th and most of the crew was rude and had no respect. I asked one crew member for more bait because I ran out, he looked at me and picked up his fishing pole and started fishing while i was standing behind him with a empty bucket in my hand. i ask him again and he said find another crew member. the best crew member by far is the oldest guy, i wish i remembered his name I believe he had blond hair. he was the one throwing chum into the water. he taught me how to properly attach a hook with out me asking. one time my line was tangled and i didnt want to ask any of these rude crew members for help. he seen my line and stopped what he was doing to help me get untangled. Never again will i ever go on this boat if i see the same crew members. the capt should fire all those stupid crew members and hire some with better customer service. we paid our money to be treated like professionals. theres so many more boats to chose from and next time ill be choosing one of those boats lol. read more

Went on this boat several times this year and several times every year for the past few years. Excellent boat with a high speed motor which was recently upgraded. This is important as you get to the fishing grounds at a faster pace. Great captain who will go above and beyond to find the fish and excellent staff who are very helpful at all times. Always a great crowd of old timers on the boat who are also very pleasant and helpful. First time when I went on this boat this year I caught 3 striped bass up to 22 pounds, keeping the limit of 2 and 8 bluefish up to 15 pounds. Second time I caught two striped bass but had to release them due to NY State regulations which state that you have to release the bass if you are a certain distance away from the shore, and 15 bluefish up to 14.5 pounds. Third time I went on the boat I got 18 bluefish up to 12 pounds, keeping 15. Not sure why some people had such negative reviews. The staff is great. The boat is excellent and the captain will put you on the fish! read more

Wort fishing experience: called few times before the trip to confirm that they were sailing- when arrived for the trip captain said without even apology- trip is cancelled because not enough people- in the previous calls he did not mention any possibility about cancelling the trip. I took my 10 yr old son fishing for blues. The crew was patient all day with our greenhorn ways. The captain never gave up on trying to find fish. He stayed out longer than was originally stated. We caught six delicious Snappers that we pan fried that night to a chorus of hoorays from our family! Take your significant others, spouses and kids. You will have a blast! The scenery can't be bought and the crew and company onboard were great. My son said on the ride home, "Dad, when we go fishing again, I want to go back to the Brooklyn VI. Don't waste your time or money. Went out on a day trip, on Sunday for blues, seemed like the captain didn't want to go out far and circled the same area for 4 hours , not one bite through out the boat. No chum no bait was used or handed out like on other charter boats I've been on. Then I guess since there were no catches he drives out further towards the jersey side. He stopped at one spot and a few of the guys actually start catching , maybe 4 or 5 caught, five minutes later he decides to leave that area ! The one spot that seemed to actually have fish and he leaves after 5 minutes!!!! Then he circles the area again spending no more than 5 minutes at every stop no catches again the rest of the day !!!! It felt like it was done purposefully so no one would have a catch to be honest. On top of that one of the crew had attitude! Complaining and bitching about untangling lines !!! Like that's your fucking job doosh! It seemed like they didn't give a shit about anything other than taking your money , so don't give to them. Complete waste, never getting a nickel from me or anybody I know again !!! read more

this is a great boat for fishing, big fast and experienced. This bald Italian guy that every 1 is talking about is Captains brother i think and if I am not mistaking his name is Phill, yes I can see him being little rude here and there but that's how his personality is, hes not that bad as he act like lol. To the1st timer he might look like a bad ass but peoples like myself who spend lot of time in that boat knows him batter. what bother me in this boat is during the day trips there are some old professional fishermen who fish there all the time and very rude to younger peoples ( NOT SPENCER/ BOB hes helpful and hes the man ) i know their names but not going to mention and the sad thing is crew don't stop them being nasty to others. If you a catching fish they will come next to you and start fishing even if there is no room but try to change your spot to go next to them this f****ing peoples will give you hell and one day one of them told me that if I dont move from there he will throw my rod and reel in the water, there was a crew rite behind us listing to the conversation i looked at the crew and left from there. So captain if you a reading this please talk to those fisherman's so it can be a really fun thing to fish in your boat ( I am sure you know who those peoples are). read more
