This place is eveything. & the set up is thought out. I usually go on Mondays, the biker groups are usually there hanging out. During the summer it's pretty hot inside but it's too cold to sit outside right now being right next to the mountains! I lovvvvve the patio. The best to read on. & I love the staff. O'Beans is everything you would want it to be. This is a small family run coffee shop in NE Albuquerque. The service is incredible. The people running the place are just SO ... DANG ... FRIENDLY. They knew some customers by name. We went there for the first time Saturday morning and they made us feel welcome, more than that, they made us feel part of the community. We ordered a mocha and a latte, both absolutely delicious. We sat indoors at a table old-timey VW car seats and enjoyed our beverages. There is seating outside too. This coffee shop is so cute and located perfectly in the Northeast mountains. I love the slugbug hippy car vibe that the theme is centered around. There is a cute little slug bug parked outside. The service was fantastic! Upon entering, I was greeted by the batista and welcomed. He explained the menu a bit and also when my drink was made, he brought it out to where I was sitting. That was a very sweet detail I liked about this cafe: that the baristas took note of who ordered what and where they were sitting within the restaurant. I ordered the iced "Megan" which was made with Nutella. It was absolutely delightful. I loved that it was sweet without overpowering the coffee taste. Amazing coffee, plain and simple. I have had coffee all over town and this place had the best tasting pour over black coffee I've had. My partner had a couple other specialty coffee's like the mocha and the Azteca, which has a decadent rich flavor mixed with a bit of red chili. Obeans is a very quaint and cozy coffee shop with a very unique Volkswagen decorum. It has very comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, and the staff are extremely friendly. I came across O'Beans on yelp and thought how incredibly cute it looked. It reminded me of growing up in SoCal. When I was in high school a lot of my friends drove various types of VWs. My little brother got his first bug with a rag top. I remember cruising in around town with my friends in their bugs. So as I walked up some of the simple touches brought me back to my days of going to beach and riding a beach cruiser. If you threw in an ocean and a little pacific breeze I could almost envision myself in Newport Beach. My new favorite coffee spot in ABQ! This adorable brick-and-mortar is located in the foothills surrounded by beautiful hikes and is a perfect place to stop before or after for a jolt of delicious caffeine. I went on a first date here and the staff was absolutely incredible and helped us pick out the most delicious cups of coffee. They then proceeded to let us sit in the cafe for five whole hours while only occasionally checking in on us to make sure we were comfortable. Good, but not exceptional, coffee and pastry at prices as elevated as it's location in the NE Heights just off Tramway. Mocha prices come in at $4.70'ish (12 oz) and $5 (16 oz), which is a bit above typical for Albuquerque in my experience. I opted for my usual 16 oz portion. Bigger is better, right? Cellophane wrapped commercial cheese danish rolled in around the $3 price point. Donuts in the case were from Rebel Donuts. If I understood correctly, the pastries were from Chocolate Maven. The mocha flavor was good, but it isn't going to redefine your life's expectation of what can be done with coffee, milk, and chocolate. For that level of caffienated nirvana I currently count on Espresso Fino, Cutbow, and Java Joe's. So the drink at O'Beans is four star on quality, I guess, with one star dockage for the price demanded to get it. Because, let's face the fact, for $5 in the Duke City I can get mocha that slays. This wasn't it. The danish was flavorful, with the cheese filling getting special credit for it's rich taste & sumptuously smooth texture. Bread was sturdy enough to hold filling securely. It was neither dry nor soggy, sort of Goldilocks "just right". It carried a fair shot of butter flavor hiding just a hint of almondine. Again, product that was good, acceptable, but not reality bending. Interior & seating is tidy, compact, crowded (your choice). Patio seating is more spacious obviously, but that is limited to a few tables that I noted. Interior is clean & well maintained. Decor of car & Route 66 motifs is consistent & not cluttered to my eye. Barista dude gave friendliness and cordiality the old collegiate try. Strong effort that felt somehow strained. But credit to him for trying. (Looking at you, arrogant/diffident "to cool to care" or "can't be distracted from the importance of texting to take care of you just now" servers & staff that one occasionally encounters in this city.) Overall I found O'Beans to be a decent, but not stellar, experience. Probably a less than 50% chance I'll make it a repeat stop. read more

I found O'Bean's on Yelp on our way out the door for a short hike. I was so excited for good coffee close to a hiking spot we enjoy. So wanted to love this place. The coffee I had was real bad. :( l got a light roast drip coffee because I adore good drip coffee. Unfortunately tasted like water that had been used to wash out a coffee pot. Zero coffee body, taste, or caffeine. I am pretty sure it was mostly water. Probably the worst "coffee" I have ever paid money for. It was also served too hot to drink. My husband had a cappuccino which was actually good. So maybe stick to the espresso drinks? The decor is quirky and the patio seems like a great spot. Prices seemed high compared to other local coffee shops. read more

The abuelas mocha was super delicious albeit rather overpriced. The drip coffee was pretty standard. Where O'beans let me down most was the service. I arrived a little over an hour before closing. As we sat down in the cafe to chat, the owner (i believe) was already putting away the chairs and shutting everything down. She didn't acknowledge our presence which made us feel just more pressed to leave. It was a disappointing experience for a place I was so looking forward to going. Cute place, good fancy drinks, but overpriced with unfriendly staff- I'm overall left with a general "meh". If you go, just make sure to go earlier in the day! read more
