What a lovely park just off Horizon. I have lived here over 2 years and tried many of the local parks, but had never been to this one. We love taking our dogs out for new adventures. The dogs love real grass and this park has lots of grass. The dog park portion of the park was clean and mostly empty. It also had natural grass inside the fenced in areas which was nice. Note: we went on a Saturday at about 4:30pm. There must have been a school dance or something because young couples in Promish attire were taking photos on the bridge. Lots of walking paths and just open area to take dogs. Playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis.....seemed like a great place. I'm sure it will be much more busy once all the homes are built and finished in the 7 new communities across Horizon. But we will continue to enjoy it as long as we can. read more

Multiple visits throughout the summer and fall of 2022. My wife, children and I usually spend about 30-45 minutes here while we wait for our eldest daughter to finish her after school program. The park from afar is usually clean. It's very rare to see any transients in the area making it safe for us and our children to play on their equipment. The concrete tables aren't always clean though, so if you decide to use them, ensure that you take some wipes to pre-clean up the area you're going to use. Overall this is a quiet and decent park behind a school. You might get a group of kids that show up after school is out, or some of the local HS and JHS kids traveling through the area. As always, despite a semi safe environment, always be vigilant, and enjoy your recreational environment. read more

Not sure what kind of material the playground turf has but if messed up my daughter knees so bad when she fell, kids fall and don't usually get so badly scraped up on the first trip and fall playing that day at the park. read more

O'Callaghan Park - There are 2 playgrounds, this one is at the top of the hill - Parks Near Me - Henderson, Nevada

This is an amazing medium sized park that has everything you need. The center of the park has a decent sized grassy area making you feel you're not in the desert. The grassy area is surrounded by cement walkways. Next to the water tower there's a playground and a larger one towards the parking lot, both with large picnic bench areas. There are tennis courts on one corner and baseball fields on the opposite end. Behind the fields you can find fronton and basketball courts. In the back corner there are two smaller dog parks with a few obstacles for doggies to play with and another large picnic area. There's plenty of benches to sit down at if you're tired. You can easily walk around the park circle a few times and get your exercise on. People are friendly and I often see the same local friendly faces. Weekdays are very calm with your occasional dog walker and non-school age children playing at the swings. Weekends are more active with more walkers and children utilizing the playgrounds and baseball little league. Are you a Pokémon Go hunter? This is an amazing park! There's tons of Pokestops and 2 gyms. Half of the Pokestops are in a shaded area. Good quality pokemons and everyone is friendly doing their own thing on community day. Gorgeous park, big walking trail, clean tennis courts. Plenty of people walk their dogs here, and there's a smallish playground as well, in addition to a baseball diamond for little league games. My BF is a member of a tennis league here and they play games and practices twice a week. The courts are well-lit in the evenings with lights that run for an hour at a time, and there's ample shade around the courts during the day as well as the bench between courts for spectator seating. read more

O'callaghan park has been in Henderson Nevada since the mid-1980s. This is a lunch to a lot of shade trees which is a bonus in a hot desert when you're looking to cool off outside in the summer. Ample walking trails are concrete sidewalks and are lifted in a few areas due to tree roots. So pay attention and be careful while you're on your morning stroll. The park boasts a baseball field, basketball courts, sand volleyball, tennis courts and two playground areas for kids. Make note that there's only one bathroom for the entire park so if you're at the playground area near the sand volleyball, I'll need to give enough time to take Junior up to the potty. The park is very dog friendly and you'll find regulars that are here bringing their coaches in the morning and the evening. Many are so comfortable with their dogs at the park that they're not on leashes. So if you're coming here with your Pooch for the first time keep an eye out. Now, they just added a brand new agility park for dogs we're off leash is allowed. I've lived on the street for years and the park has provided a safe, fun, excape from my family. The only criticism that have for the park is that there isn't enough lighting for when the Sun goes down. It would be great at the city of Henderson would install more lighting underneath the covered picnic areas. Will keep an eye out for that! read more

Henderson promotes itself as "A place to call home." And in my book there is no better place to call home than a picturesque park. Living in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, we are blessed with the gift of sunshine. In my book Vegas is Sun City not Sin City. I don't take the gift of endless sunshine for granted. I go out of my way to spend time in the sunshine. From Indian Springs to Boulder City, I am up to spending time exploring different parks. Recently after a breakfast at the Friendly Donut House, I set out for O' Callaghan Park. When driving on Horizon Drive on a straight stretch of asphalt between US 95 and College Drive, it is easy to miss O' Callaghan Park. There is no distinctive landmark, just a water tank at the corner of Skyline Drive. It's a shame because this is an island of tranquility. O' Callaghan is a 20 acre park at the corner of Horizon and Skyline East of US 95. The park is large enough to have two parking lots and playgrounds. The park is cool enough to have a canopy of mature trees. When I visited the park, I parked off the Horizon Drive parking lot. This is the westernmost border of the rectangular Park that reaches east to border the school yard of an elementary school. Backyards border the north side of the rectangle where Skyline Drive borders the south side of it. I entered the park through one of the two playgrounds that were relatively graffiti-free. My first impression is that the park was bigger than it seemed. From a distance the adjacent green school yard appears to be a part of the park. The park was big enough. According to the Cardio Trainer app, the circular walking course is the length of a mile. It was a pretty mile alongside a well kept green lawn sparsely populated with mature trees on a slightly uphill climb toward the border of the elementary school. The walking course connected to recreation facilities including a basketball court, tennis courts, playgrounds, volleyball, and picnic tables. The walking course provided views of both Black and Frenchman Mountains. The park's grand vista is the diminutive pedestrian bridge across a section of the green lawn. O' Callaghan Park is a nice Park to call home for a couple of hours. The City of Henderson does a fine job maintaining it. The mature trees compliment the Vegas sunshine. The minutes spent relaxing at O' Callaghan Park are minutes that add to your life. read more

Often referred to by teens as "O'Cal," this is an older park which has aged like fine wine, and offers a little of everything. You can find a baseball diamond, basketball court, racquetball court, volleyball area (with sand), two parking lots (one via Skyline and the other via Horizon), swings, walking path, open grass area, barbecues, tennis courts, restrooms, and playground. Unlike other parks in the area, which seem somewhat separated from the community, O'Callaghan is smack-dab in the middle of a neighborhood. There are houses across the street on Skyline, as well as back yards from nearby homes sharing the entire Eastern edge of the park. While there isn't a splash area or as many barbecues as found at Mission Hills Park, there is more than enough to here to make this one of the better parks in the area. Although you can often find people here at all hours of the day or night, it gets pretty dark here after hours, and doesn't feel quite as inviting as it does during the day. Overall, O'Cal is a vital park in the area, with plenty to offer kids and parents alike. read more

This park is within walking distance from where I am staying. I usually go here to jog or play tennis. The park itself isn't very big, but it is well maintained and has everything you'd need in a park: two lighted tennis courts, jogging path, play ground area for the kids, basketball and handball court, baseball court, and plenty of trees and greenery. It is generally pretty peaceful and people there are respectful. There is always some type of little league game going on so for a small park it lively, but not crazy. There are park benches and picnic areas. It is a great place to come for a leisurely stroll, a jog or to partake in one of the sports. read more

There is definitely (at least) 1 thing that the City of Henderson is good at: Parks. I've commented MANY times at how many awesome parks there are around, and O'Callaghan Park is no exception. There are picnic tables that always seem to be in use. A large kids play area, tennis courts, a walking path and LOTS of grass. I've been hesitant to review the park because it is a little hidden gem on my side of town and I don't really want anyone else to know about it! But trust me, if you are in the area or walking your dog, it's a great stop! You definitely don't feel like you are in the desert. Great job, Hendertucky! read more

This is a nice large older park with a variety of activities for families. We have been here several times with large parties and it is a great location for gatherings. There is a large covered picnic area located next to a kids play area and not far from the bathrooms. The bathrooms have always been in decent condition whenever we have been. Like another reviewer said one of the best aspects of this park is the large amounts of grass and old shade trees. It doesn't feel like you are in the desert! Although it is an older park it is well maintained for its age. There is a walking path through the park, tennis courts and at least two play areas. read more

This place is flat out incredible. So much grass and many big trees that provide shady areas. I love to take my dog for walks here because it doesn't feel like we're baking in the sun the entire time. It feels so much like back home out east. When you're here, you would never know you're in the desert. There's a great walking path around the entire park and even when there a ton of people here it doesn't feel crowded. I do have to say that I have been going to this park for over seven years and just realized I have never reviewed it before. Last night afterwork I met my friend and her daughter at the Tennis Courts located at the park. We taught our girls to play tennis for the first time and we played the first time in over 20 years. There are four courts and they are kept very clean. In the middle of the courts there are covered benches for people to sit to watch or rest. Exhausted we walked over to the play structure and the kids used the swing set then played on the play structure. There were so many people out walking their dogs and children in strollers, football team practicing and people eating dinner. There is a walking path that is circular and goes around the green grass area. We have flown kites before, held our Girl Scout pinning event, been to a birthday party, played horse shoes and volleyball. I love all the mature trees which adds shade. What I don't like is the bathrooms are really far away. It is located in an older area, but this park you can tell is well loved by those who frequent it. read more

I grew up at this park. I love it! It has history and character. I've had birthday parties, school picnics, and my first dates all at this park! My favorite things about this park are the gigantic mature trees, the concrete path that meanders all the way around the park and the sand volleyball courts. But, there is a huge problem I have at this park: it does not feel safe at night. There are always hooligans hanging around and there is not enough light to see anything in the distance. I wish I could jog at night here, but I can't because it's just too darn dark! read more
